It was late at night and Jude was restless not only was he restless but he was a bit hungry for something sweet and maybe more coffee. Always coffee. None of that decaf stuff either. He made his way to the cafeteria and pretty much seemed to not make note of anyone else that was there just yet as he focused on his own goals for that moment. Some searching provided him with a nice chocolate éclair and a cup of coffee.

Normally he'd take his prizes and hide out in his room to devour them and then read a book or something but for some reason he glanced around and saw a new face he hadn't seen before.

Jude was sure he would have seen her way before this but as of late he'd been hiding out in his room and simply being ... 'useless' as certain folk might say but he didn't care right now. He was past the point in caring about anything. Still he wandered over to where this new figure sat and moved to sit with her, "Mind if I join you?"

Yom was so proud, her little Jude was going about interacting with people on his own.

"Oh no, sure, go ahead!" The girl in question was clutching a mug of tea to her face, gesturing to the empty seat opposite her with what looked like it was trying to be a smile. She noted his éclair with considerable desire, but since getting whacked in the face by Caelius' scythe, she hadn't even thought of eating anything semi-solid.

Hence the tea. Honestly, she would have preferred soup if she could get it, but this was good enough, and it also served as a heat-pack, soothing the pain. Hopefully the bump would go down by tomorrow- if not.. sigh. She'd have to deal with funny looks, probably, for a while.

"Haven't seen you around before," she commented, looking at him somewhat curiously. There really were a lot of hunters in this place, huh. Hopefully that meant less chance of seeing Robert again.

He nodded his head once and moved to sit in the seat across from her as he quietly set his cup of coffee down next to his éclair so he could pick on it at his leisure after he had laid down a napkin so he wouldn't make a mess. At her words he flicked his gaze up at her and there was a small smirk.

"I could say the same about you," he replied with a small shrug as he pulled at the pastry to get a bite sized piece from it, "I...kind of missed the last mission so that might be why you didn't see me and I didn't see you."

He wasn't sure if she was a hunter he hadn't noticed before or if she'd freshly awakened. Jude had a feeling that he'd know if he had actually been attending some of the gatherings.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 21, 2011 6:38 am

"Ahhh... ahahaha--ouch." So he'd missed the last mission, which meant he hadn't seen what Caelius had done to her. "You didn't miss much," she replied, trying to sound reassuring. "Just, uhhh, the usual."

Not that she knew what 'usual' was, in the way of hunter missions, though she didn't expect tea parties.

"I guess I'm sort of new to this place, though." Reine was speaking more to Jude's éclair than the boy himself, watching with a little ache in her heart as he slowly savoured it. If she didn't know better, she would've sworn he'd done it on purpose. After this healed over, she was going to celebrate with Evie, by stuffing herself full of the delightful chocolatey desserts.

"Just woke up from one of those awful pods a few days ago-- oh! Did you happen to be on the island before, by any chance?" She was fairly sure she had the phoenixes covered, other than the two girls she hadn't run into yet, but it was possible, wasn't it, that she had known him as well, on the island?

"I was Alpha-10." She held the mug up in front of her face, just as a precaution- if it happened to be someone who'd disliked her, she could.. spill tea.. over him?

or you could use me...

No! Not after what happened the last time. Reine shuddered, thinking about when Alynthe had been screaming at her; only on returning to the campus had the swordbreaker finally shut up.

as you like, sweetie.. I'll always be here, anyway, waiting just for you....

"I see. So you got hit pretty good while out?" He said taking her earlier comment in mind as they just stuck everyone in a situation and just expected them to cope or know what to do automatically that is what 'the usual' became known as to him as of late. Then again he wasn't sure how to prevent that feeling of hopelessness that came from each mission he attended other than researching ahead. Not that he minded research just he wasn't sure where to look first just yet.

Jude listened to her a moment more as he ate his éclair with no real need to stop on her account. Not that he was enjoying it to spite her or anything he was just hungry and fulfilling a craving, "Mmm, I was on the Island. I was Theta Seven or Theven whatever they wanted to call me. I don't recall Alpha Ten, sorry. Congrats on waking up though."

Out of all those that woke up he never seemed to see the one familiar face he looked forward to. Oh well.

"Y...yeah. Huge monster, y'know. Attacked us."

That wasn't technically a lie... the monster had hit her pretty hard, even if it hadn't been the cause of this particular injury. But the boy didn't need to know that, did he? Speaking of knowing things, she hadn't even asked his name.

"I don't recall Theta Seven, either... say, what's your real name? I'm Reine." It felt nice to say that- Reine. Not Roberta. Never Roberta again. She stretched in her chair, taking a sip of tea. It was cooling down, already- not that she minded, she didn't do too well with hot things anyway. She used to stick ice-cubes in hot tea, or wait for soup to cool, even until her noodles got soggy.

Her friends used to laugh at her for that.. it seemed like such a distant memory now, though.

"Giant monsters seem to be the theme as of late," he muttered thoughtfully and then took a sip of his coffee.

At her name he nodded his head a bit, "Reine," he echoed back at her testing the pronunciation before he introduced himself in turn, "I am Jude, pleased to meet you." Hopefully she wouldn't suddenly burst into song at him like some had done in the past - not that any Hunters have done so yet. Thus far he'd only been called 'Judy'.

..Ugh.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 21, 2011 9:56 am

"You don't mean there are more of those? Like, tons of them?" Placing the mug down on the table, she flopped back on her chair, whistling. "What're the ones you saw like? Ours was huge and spikey and..." her face turned slightly green as she remembered the awful muck, all the decomposing bodies...

She'd spent hours scrubbing her skin until it was practically raw, just to get it off- but even that wasn't enough. The girl would have soaked forever if she could.

"... it was awful," she finished lamely. Now she wasn't too sure if she wanted to hear about Jude's monster. Though it was probably a good idea to gather data about the creatures..

"Oooh, first Jude I've met. I like that. I think I knew five Sarahs and at least two Adeles, and a couple of Michaels, in the past. I like unique names, though. For varying definitions of unique."

"I'm pretty much under the impression that there is a never ending stream of them," he observed quietly, "each one worse than the last and scarier. Not that I am trying to scare you off or anything..."

He wasn't sure why they had to be so god damn big, but whatever.

Jude took another bit of éclair and chewed on it thoughtfully as she commented on his name and he smiled slightly, "Thanks. You're the first Reine I ever met. So are you settling in nicely?"
PostPosted: Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:16 am

Reine sighed audibly. "Didn't quite realise what I was getting into, but heh, I guess there's no point worrying too much about that, since I'm already here?" Jude's words confirmed whatever fears she'd had, but Reine could still afford to be slightly optimistic.

"Someday we'll beat the final boss! And then it'll all be over, right?" Yeah, it was probably something like Shadow of the Colossus- huge monsters, beat boss, game still over! The only difference was that the game had been fun.

"I guess-- for varying definitions of nicely." It was somewhat uncharacteristic of her to be this vague, but she didn't feel like she could comment for sure. "Met up with a bunch of teammates from before, realised two of them were people I never wanted to see again, and made a few other friends. You?"

He seemed calm, and nice enough- the sort of person you could spill all your secrets to, if you weren't careful. Either that or it was the lateness, or the quietness. Reine had no doubt there were cameras around, monitoring their every action, but she felt safe enough, at least, to speak her mind.

"I think...that's the case for most of us. We didn't realize what we were getting into and now we're here, heh." He shifted a shoulder and without saying so he concurred with the young woman's outlook on the whole ordeal.

Jude tilted his head at her optimistic ideals and sadly couldn't share them but he didn't exactly tear them apart other than uttering a vague, "Maybe," in response. There was no telling if there was an end in sight or even an 'end boss'. If there was they probably wouldn't see said boss for a long, long time.

The young man took the last couple bites of his éclair and he shrugged, "I never had teammates more like Allies and as far as I know ...they're still 'sleeping'. My only ...friend that came with me into this is also still sleeping, but I guess I've been making ... acquaintances outside of that. I've been trying to help out others if I can...I feel a bit lost."

It wasn't hard to admit to the fact that he felt lost despite that the confession was to a stranger.

"And now we're hereeee~~~" she echoed, laughing dryly. "I guess there's nowhere else to go, and certainly no going back. I do wish there were some kind of goal, though, I mean- where would we be in ten, twenty years? Accepting a nobel prize? Directing a movie? Taking care of our kids?"

There was a wistful smile on Reine's face- as if she was almost regretting, now, having made her choice. After all, she'd come here to be away from Robert and Petra- though now the two of them were here, together- didn't it mean that she could have just stayed on, and lived out her life?

Graduate, graduate again, get a PhD, someday have her own lab... and her own family. She knew thinking about it didn't make any difference, but the thought was hard to let go, and she sighed, moving to rest her head on her arms.

"What about you? Had any dreams?" She looked closely at him for any reaction when he mentioned the 'friend' who'd come with him, but his face showed no emotion. Perhaps it had been a close friend- perhaps, like in her case, it was someone he didn't want to see again.

"I know what you mean- I guess. I don't know where we're going, or what we're really doing here..."

"Going back is for suckers," he replied with a small shrug. Jude focused his attention on his coffee now taking a small sip from it and giving a small shrug in response, "I don't know...Maybe I would have gotten married and had some kids, yeah."

Or be in jail because he went batshit insane and killed someone.

He didn't really like thinking about his past situation since this life seemed just a touch better despite anyone that was currently missing that had once been within an easy reach of him. It was lonely but then he'd never made friends easily at least not usually.

"My dream..." He trailed off and then he shrugged lightly as he leaned over his coffee his hair moving to hide his face now, "I didn't dream much."
PostPosted: Wed Nov 30, 2011 9:24 am

"I.. see.." She seemed to have unknowingly breached a taboo topic, somehow- or just one he was unwilling to talk about. "I half wish I could go back, y'know? At least for a little bit- I'd want to leave my mom a message, or something, like 'don't worry about me'.. I wonder how she's taking it. I wish they'd forget us completely, and go on with their lives."

Pausing, Reine took another sip of tea and glanced at the clock- three twenty-seven. And yet she wasn't tired; the tea would keep her up a while longer, even. What kept Jude up- was he an insomniac, as well? She briefly wondered if he'd meant literal dreaming when he answered; somehow, she wouldn't put it past him.

"I sometimes wake up in the morning wondering who I am, and why I'm here," she admitted. "I never used to question that, before. Maybe I'll get used to it, soon, I don't know. I guess I'll find some kind of purpose here, even if it's different from the one I had before."

"...Wishing does nothing but make you sad that wishes aren't real, at least wishes you can't work to make come true anymore," he shrugged as he moved to sip his coffee before he continued on, "besides, even if you had left everyone in perfect happiness you'd still regret leaving them behind and so you'll always have at least one regret no matter what."

Jude turned his coffee cup around in his palms a bit and looked over at Reine, "Instead...Look at where you are now and those around you. Find bonds with your fellow Hunters and don't be like me always brooding in a dark corner."

It got boring. It got lonely.

"You are Reine. You'll find your way around here...You're just disoriented from you're very long nap." Jude smiled slightly, "you will figure it out and...I'll try to help."
