Roll an Eleven: Canyon Field: The canyon walls towers high towards the ceiling while the ground sinks downwards several levels, making the top and bottom of the field very difficult to see without special equipment. The cliff faces are very steep with little ridge support for grabbing and climbing; on top of that, the rock faces are very damp which makes grabbing and holding on very difficult. A few skinny trees and roots jut out from the cliff and allow smaller, nimbler pokemon to grab and swing around. At the very bottom of the canyon’s long drop is a deep pool of water. Keeping up is difficult for trainers on this particular battlefield, so stadium officials have set up a special view screen on each of the trainer platforms. A mini camera will follow your pokemon around while it battles (of course, it’s programmed to back off when a pokemon does an attack) and the view screen will enable trainers to issue commands to their companions via microphone. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to FLYING and ROCK type attacks.

 Cara ran into the stadium, clutching Dante's pokeball. She was almost late for her battle. Looking around, she was wondering where her opponent could be. She didn't know the name of the trainer she was fighting or the pokemon they would be using but she knew she wanted Dante to have a good workout. After their run-in with Calypso, when she was just the mysterious and VERY annoying toilet tentacool from the mansion, she realized that Dante needed some more practice. Cara looked at Dante's pokeball, "Let's make this a great battle buddy." She said with a grin.

 Alex strolled in to the stadium, readjusting the backpack on his shoulder. It wasnt fair. It just wasnt fair! Alex had spent the first 22 years of his life living with a family that shunned the use of dangerous pokemon, and had little experience working with them. But now the young man was living on his own, and finally had the opportunity to explore the world of pokemon. He could finally train, battle, and adventure! He was only missing one thing.
A pokemon.
Alex sighed. Zatao could be a dangerous place to wander through without a companion, whether human or pokemon, to watch your back. So now he was stuck to the city, using rental pokemon to practice his battling skills. Alex strolled up to the rental booth, pulling his wallet from his pocket."A joltik, please." He exchanged the money for the pokeball, and headed off towards the inner portion of the stadium. A scribble on his hand reminded him of the name of his opponent: Cara.
Walking through the doors, he came to a room with some trainers milling about, no doubt waiting for their opponents. But which one was Cara? Alex looked around at the trainers. The nearest one was a brunette, wearing an odd hat with ear on top. Maybe she would know who Cara was. Clutching his rental pokeball tightly, he approached the girl. "Hello! Im Alex. Would you happen to know who Cara is? I have a battle with her in a few minutes." Alex looked up at the giant clock mounted on the wall. More like he had a battle NOW. He would hate to be late.

Cara looked over at the young man curiously at first then smiled. "That'd be me. I'm Cara, nice to meet you." She then looked at the clock, which was what Alex appeared to be looking at. "Ready to get goin' huh?" She said with a grin and a light laugh. "Come on! The field is this way." She then started walking down a corridor towards the Canyon Field. "We ended up getting the Canyon field, so I don't know if that is going to help or hinder your pokemon any, but it sure as snot ain't gonna help mine." She said with a chuckle as they walked out onto the field.

Alex laughed. The first trainer he talks turns out to be his opponent. He could tell this was going to be a crazy day. "Well, that was easy. Nice to meet you too, Cara." Alex followed after her, giving the tail on the girls outfit an strange look, but being tactful enough to keep his mouth shut. Must be one of those pokemon cosplayers. He shrugged. Alex thought it was a little weird, but it didnt mean she was a bad person, or trainer for that matter. She seemed nice enough anyways. "Hm? Canyon field? No, no advantages really. This poor guy might have a tough time getting over the rocks though." Alex released the small spider pokemon onto his hand and helped it onto his shoulder. "Rental pokemon." he scratched the Joltiks head, smiling as it cooed. "My parents though pokemon were dangerous and never let me own any. Still havent gotten off my lazy butt to go catch one of my own." He smiled, rubbing the back of his spiky black hair. Finally they reached the middle of field, and Alex was ready to head off to his platform and begin the battle. "Are you using one of your own?" He asked, comfortably crossing his arms.

"I know what you mean, Dante is going to have a difficult time too. He may be a cat but still. And yeah, I'll be using one of my own. Come on out Dante!" Cara opened Dante's pokeball and the red energy streamed out and formed the large cat with the candycane tail. "Perrrrrsian." He said, rubbing up against Cara's leg. Cara laughed and scratched behind his ear. "You ready to battle buddy?" Dante nodded and leapt out onto the field, a fierce look in his eyes. Cara then turned back to Alex. "Don't worry about your parents. Some people have bad experiences with pokemon and then come to believe that all pokemon are dangerous...it's not your fault. Your parents are just.....a little close minded. No offense, and don't worry about catching your first pokemon, it will happen when the time is right." Cara then walked over to the trainer's box and got in. "So," She called over, putting her game face on, "You ready for your first battle?"

Alex's eyes grew jealous as the persian rubbed up against his trainer. He hoped that soon he would have a bond like that with a pokemon. But Cara was right, he would catch a pokemon when the time was right. "None taken. And thanks for the advice." Alex scratched the Joltik's head. "Do your best, little guy!" He lowered the spider pokemon onto the field and jogged back to his own box. "Ready!" He called back. "Go ahead and make your move!"

Cara nodded and smiled. "Ok then, Dante, use Iron Tail!" Dante nodded and hopped from rock to rock, his tail starting to glow and turn a chrome color as he leapt into the air. He was aiming straight for the Joltik.

Alex winced as Dantes iron tail slammed into the Joltik. The bug pokemon squealed and scurried away after the hit had landed, giving off a barely audible growl. So the little guy had some spunk after all. "Alright buddy, lets start off strong! Hit him with a Thunderbolt." Alex commanded. Joltiks body began to spark, and a beam of electricity shot out at the Persian.

Dante yowled as the bolt of lightning hit him. "DANTE!!" Cara shouted. The cat stood and shook off the charge; that had hurt. Cara looked at her poor pokemon, that had been one strong thunderbolt. Dante growled as he looked at the small electric bug, and readied himself for another attack. "Dante, are you ok?" The Persian nodded and growled loudly at Joltik, ready to keep going. Cara nodded. "Glad to hear it. Go ahead and use Dig!" Dante nodded and started tunneling, aiming directly for that shocking little bug.

The young man kept his face at a dead pan, but his clenched triumphantly. That was a damn good hit. "Nice job, Joltik!" Alex congratulated his pokemon. The Joltik scuttled in circle happily. "Dont get too happy now, stay focused." The rookie trainer reminded the little pokemon. Joltik re-focused itself, closely watching Dante. Alex grimaced as the Persian began to dig. It had to take a lot of power to dig through this tough rock. If that hit Joltik...
Alex squinted his eyes, trying to predict where Dante would come up. He leaned forward, spotting a lump about to burst out of the ground."Quick, dodge to the left!" Joltik squealed and leapt as far as he could, barely getting out of Dantes way in time. "Excellent! Now lets take him out for a few turns. Thunderwave!" Another bolt, this time circular in shape, flew at Dante, sparks flying off into the air.

"Dante, jump between rocks and dodge it!" Cara called out. The Persian nodded and did exactly that to evade the attack. The Thunderwave crashed into the rocks where Dante had previously been and he stood proudly, happy he had managed to dodge. "Great foot work, lets keep it up! Use Dig again!" Cara shouted, grinning happily. Dante again started tunneling his way through the rocky terrain towards his insect target.

Alex frowned. he had really been hoping it would hit. Joltik was smaller and slower. They needed a few turns to knock the Persian down. "Try another dodge, little guy." Alex instructed. But it was too late. Joltik went flying, slamming into a large boulder. Alex gribbed the edge of the box, watching the monitor intently. The pokemon shook itself off and regained his footing. Alex breathed a sigh of relief. But what to do now? He weighed the options. Another attack could knock off more hp, but if managed to paralyze Dante for a few turns...it was worth another try."Try another Thunderwave." He spoke into the mic. Joltik charged up another ball of electricity and aimed it at Dante.
