“You got to be kidding me.” Inali growled, looking at the leash that was double and triple knotted around his collar. He followed it to where it was attached too. That damn striped female again. “I’ve done everything he wants, and still, he puts me like this? I don’t get it. No more nice mokai!” Inali growled.
“You are forgetting that every time he lets you off the leash, you make a run for it. If you are trying to get him to trust you, doing just that isn’t going to help.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever.” Inali growled, walking down the cobblestone path, tugging Ai along with him. “Just don’t hold me back already and walk.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard me. Walk. I don’t want to be around this damn musky ‘stable’ as you pets call them.”
Glaring, Ai just sat down. She wasn’t movement.
At the sudden stop, Inali rolled his eyes. “Ugh, what now? Oh…you can’t be serious!”
Ai flashed a cheeky grin. “What, not strong enough to pull me?”
Inali sighed in defeat. “Fine, we’ll stay by this nasty place because the princess wants too.”

Kuruk felt a strength in him: he had won. But, ugh, he grimaced as he walked. K. had let him, moreso, allowed him to stretch his legs after getting out of the infirmary. But she was given strict orders to have him rest for at least a week before fighting again, training was permitted only after his substantial wounds healed. Figured, he had tried too hard and hurt himself in the process. But it ignited his spirit knowing he had strength in him and that he could win, he just had to try harder and stay focused.
As he walked, he had a limp, but pushed himself to take the steps so that the tension in his shoulders might ease up. That was where most of the problem was, since he used his weight and brute force, it hurt his shoulders the most from the body slams.
Walking, a familiar and an unfamiliar scent crossed his nose. Ahead, he saw gray and smiled, but there was also black and white...tied to her?
"Afternoon, Ai, who's your..." what word should he use? The male seemed strong, but not...affectionate towards her, "companion?"
Was that the right word?
As he sat with them, he grit his fangs as he sat, and then tried to let a smile cross his maw.

At the sound of the voice, Ai quickly turned her head. “Ah, Kuruk!” She noticed his limp and tilted her head. She did not ask just yet what was wrong, as the male had asked her another question first. “Companion…Oh…He’s---“
“Ciar! Nice to meet you.” Inali gave a quick bob of the head.
“Actually, his name /was/ Ciar. Now it’s Inali.”
“It still is. Stupid human pet names.” Inali growled, lowering himself to the ground in a sulk.
"No. You need to learn that you have a new name now, and you best do good to know it if you want our master to trust you." Ai walked over to Kuruk, as much as she could with the lead being taut, before whispering. “He was caught from the wild not too long ago. He’s still a bit moody over it.” She glanced back at the husky colored mokai, rolling her eyes.
“Did I see you limping? Were you injured in your battle?” Ai asked with concern. She remembered when she was out of commission from fights. A week of torture that was.

At the male's name, Kuruk opened his mouth to speak when Ai seemed to cut the male off. He was confused and looked between the two, back and forth for a moment. He quirked a brow, and at the little 'discussion' Kuruk chuckled and bowed his head to Ciar/Inali, "Nice to meet you as well my friend. I'm sorry if your new name trifles you, regardless of what they call you here," he said, listening to Ai's words of this male being caught, "that does not mean you have to forget who you are," he said with a nod.
At Ai's whispered words, Kuruk looked to Inali/Ciar, and back to Ai, "it will take him some time, you understand, the wild, being feral, coming here, must be difficult, losing everything he knew. Give him time, imagine if you were taken out there eh?" he said motioning to the wild, "brought to a pack and given a new name, you'd be moody too, right?"
Enough of that, Kuruk figured, and he looked to his leg and back to Ai and he shrugged and nodded, "I was, yes, guess I tried a little too hard, I won though," he said with a smile on his maw, "just have to wait a little while before I can fight again. It's hard, but I won, and I'm glad for it, regardless of the injury."
Kuruk sat by Ai and watched the husky colored male, and felt like it would be too difficult for the male for quite some time, the male needed something to give him inspiration, or hope, here.

“I’m sure, the pleasure is all yours.” Inali said sarcastically, still sulking on the ground. His ears perked though, when Kuruk mentioned not to forget who you were.
“Now, here is a sensible mokai. Maybe /some/ should take a few lessons from him.” Inali rose to his feet, his icy gaze staring at Ai accusingly.
Ai actually couldn’t grasp the concept that Kuruk told her. In her mind, everyone should enjoy the settlement life, and those who were caught should be thankful to live inside the walls, where they would be treated (for the most part) well, and fed on a daily basis. Not only that, there would be that bond between master and pet, one like which she had developed with her own master.
“I don’t think I would be, to be honest.” She enjoyed her life for she knew nothing else. “But…I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Though, he needs to stop running off, I do rather enjoy my freedom of not being tied up to him.
Ignoring Inali for a moment, she continued talking to the brown mokai. “Good job!” She liked hearing of others winning. It would prove later completion in the pit.

Kuruk quirked a brow at Inali's first comment, but as he seemed to understand what Kuruk was trying to say, he smiled and nodded in Inali's direction. "I don't know, myself, what it is truly like out there, to live out there, but I know what it is like to feel home here, it has to do with what you find here, be it a human, a bond, or another mokai." Kuruk looked to Ai and smiled, "It just had to ground you, and from there, you can continue to grow, and become stronger."
Kuruk understood Ai's comment, it would be difficult for her to go on her own when this male was attached to her. Kuruk didn't like the idea too much.
"Thanks," Kuruk said smiling, "I just need to control how much I put into each attack, I went a bit far, hurt myself in the process."
He looked to Inali, wondered, what, in fact, he should call him.
It was troublesome.

“I’ve done that before…I injured myself on the first battle against a veteran fighter. I hit my head a little too hard on his. Knocked me of any kind of fights or training for a week.” That was torture for the mokai at the time. It was back when there were just a few mokai on the island. While the others were busy training and fighting, Ai was stuck in her stall to heal.
“My home is in the wild. I will never become attached to anything in here. No place. No human and” he turned to look at Ai, giving her a glare. “Certainly no mokai. Let’s go. This is one of the only times he lets me out without being around, I’d rather enjoy it instead of standing just outside the ‘stalls’.”
“Kuruk,” she turned towards the little brown mokai. “Would you like to join Inali” Inali visible tensed at the name, “and I for a stroll?” Her eyes held the ‘please, save me from this moron’ look. She didn’t know how much nicer she could be to the other without wanting to rip his throat out for being so damn sulky and sarcastic.

Kuruk was unable to speak to Ai before Inali, Ai seemed to clarify, was talking again. The male seemed impatient, but truly, how could Kuruk blame him. It wasn't as if Inali was a pup and able to learn easily, adapt quickly. Inali had the taste for the wild, it was in his blood, and merely tying him to Ai would not solve the problem. Kuruk only hoped Ai's master would realize that soon enough and not torture poor Ai.
"Of course," Kuruk said to Ai with a nod.
He looked to the two of them, and got an idea, "Why don't we go to the far side, that way" Kuruk motioned, "where some of the trees are still rooted on the inside of the wall," he figured it might calm Inali somewhat. It was also a distance away from normal human activity.
As he looked to Ai, he also hoped she had been there and knew the walls were high there, to compensate for mokai that could climb.

“Sounds good, right Inali?” There Ai went, speaking the former feral’s new name again. It Inali wanted to torture her by complaining about anything and everything, then she would just torture him with the name. It was payback. Her golden eyes thanked Kuruk for joining her, mouthing the words of thanks, as she began walking towards the direction that Kuruk had been talked about.
“Yeah, whatever. Trees…great…” In his mind, trees did not equate to outside the walls. But he was thankful to get away from the buildings of the settlement. “You call me that one more time…I swear…” Inali muttered, fur bristling on the back of his neck.
Ai had been to the side of the settlement Kuruk was talking about a few times. Before JB was busy with his new child, he would have taken her on long walks (him, or his stable hand friend). That place was somewhere that they had visited frequently. JB would bring a book to read, while Ai would laze around in the sun, soaking up the warmth. She missed those days.
“How’d you find this place?” She asked the brown male, glad that the husky marked male was not struggling, and was indeed walking at a nice pace with them.

Kuruk gave her a 'your welcome' with the expression in his eyes, and they began walking. Inali seemed so distraught, and that nothing here would help him settle, nothing would tie him down. Kuruk held in a sigh, it would be horrendous for Ai, their master, he knew that much. The male didn't even seem like he wanted to try.
"I'm sorry," he almost spoke the mokai's new name, but withdrew it from being spoken, "it is the only thing I can think of besides concrete," he was trying to be helpful, but, what could he really do? Let him loose and get Ai in trouble?
No, he wouldn't.
As they walked, Kuruk smiled to Ai, "K., she comes here when she misses him. Brings some of the books with pictures in it of her male's travels, of out there," he said looking beyond the walls. "I think it is the only thing that makes her feel closer to him, while he is away," he said.

Ai assumed K was Kuruk’s owner. “I bet she has a great time whenever he comes home though. And at least she has some kind of reminders for when he is gone.” Neither of Ai’s owners were ever really away. JB would go out for the day, Leticia likewise, but never would they be gone to the point where the other would miss them, and look at the picture books to reminisce.
“Who cares about the humans?! They are vile creatures that shouldn’t even exist in this world. If it were up to me, then we all would be no longer chained inside these walls. Let them fend for themselves for a chance, just like the wilds and ferals do outside of this blasted place!”
“….” Ai was quiet. She did flash an apologetic look to Kuruk for the rude behavior Inali was displaying. “Some of us like it here, Inali. And no mokai will tell us different.” She really didn’t know whether or not Kuruk enjoyed being in the walls like she had, but she knew she could speak for herself, and she wasn’t leaving the settlement any time soon

Kuruk had a blank expression on his face, and looked to the area before them as they walked, not making eye contact, "He...hasn't returned home yet," he said solemnly. There was a sadness in his tone, for K., "it has been a very long time." It had truly been so long since he remembered being given to K. as a pup, on the docks, near that large boat. He had seen the male's face then, and never again. He was silent for a moment while Inali spoke, and he shook his head.
"Perhaps, because you find nothing here, and no what is beyond the walls, you feel that way. But I will care and provide for her in his stead," he spoke with assurance, he looked to Inali, "and I do not do it out of pity, nor necessary commitment or loyalty, but the love I have for her as my human, for who she is to me."
He cared for K. as any mokai would, but he also loved who she was as a person, a human, and regardless of this Inali's thoughts, that wouldn't change.
"I fear your behavior is influenced by what this place has taught you, and perhaps by hands that have not been kind to you," he said looking to Inali as they came upon the trees. "I only wish that perhaps some human can show you a kindness, so you know not all can be the beings you've so painted in your mind."
As they came to the trees Kuruk walked to them and hopped onto one of the large roots that came forth from the ground and looked to the two. Ai seemed so distraught connected to this male.
"If given the chance, you might find something here, even if it is small, Inali."

Inali kept his mouth shut when the other spoke about the male not having returned. Something along the lines of ‘good riddance, one less human to worry about’ was exactly what was going through his head though. He just huffed, continuing to listen, rolling his eyes every now and then. Especially at Ai, who seemed more intrigued then anything about the situation.
“Humans are nothing.” He muttered, being silenced by the glare Ai had given him.
“Well, when you find that human drop me a line. Maybe I won’t be dead then.”
The striped mokai sighed, this really wasn’t how she wanted to spend her afternoon. Being tethered to a quiet mokai was one thing, perhaps something she could deal with. But Inali? He was just downright cynical at times. It took every ounce of what Ai had in her to stop herself from taking the horn of hers and stabbing him in the gut. She knew how to use it well, and doubt that the male could do so too.
“I don’t think I’ll find anything here, Kuruk. No matter what words you say, my life belongs out there, not tied down here, with some damn hum---“
“Maybe we should go…” Ai interrupted Inali. She didn’t want to hear another dis about a human in such a short time period.
“Gladly.”
“…Kuruk, I’m sorry about…his behavior.”She stated quietly, wanting her death glares to do more harm to the male. Next time, she would whine until JB would muzzle him. Then he would learn his lesson, maybe?

Kuruk narrowed his eyes at Inali, and had it in him to show the male a thing or two about strength when harnessed by aid of a companion. However, Inali was attached to Ai, in one way or another, so for that, Kuruk would have to wait. It was all that was in him to stifle the growl that wished to rise from his throat.
Perhaps, someday, Inali would understand.
Until that time, if Kuruk was able, he wanted to teach Inali a lesson...perhaps in the pits, in one way or another.
Ai seemed sympathetic to the ordeal Kuruk was placed in, and Kuruk felt for her, being attached to a male as bothersome as one who did not try. But again, Kuruk had to remember the contrast, the want for escape, and he kept his mouth shut and turned away from Inali.
"Perhaps I'll see you another time soon, Ai," Kuruk said, eyes shining at her.
He only hoped that things turned for the better for her with the male so close in tow, otherwise, Kuruk wasn't sure to what extent he could help, but he would try.

Ai nodded. She stepped up to the light brown male, slightly tugging at Inali’s lead. “Next time, I promise not to have this big oaf with me.” Ai felt terrible that her new ‘housemate’ was acting this way, especially to the mokai she had considered a friend. Stepping away from Kuruk, she flashed a small, sad smile, before turning her attention towards Inali.
“Let’s go.” She growled.
“Aww, and here I was getting use to being by these trees…” Inali said sarcastically, receiving a smack from a paw from the striped mokai. “Heh, you hit like a girl.”
Ai paused her walking, fur bristling. She calmed down after a moment, pulling the male back to the stables, where she hoped JB would unleash the two of them, and let her have her freedom back.
