Cinder paused in the foyer of the house, she'd been grounded for months and owned the place but still had trouble thinking of the place as 'home'. A cheroot hung from her lip burning slowly, the fragrant smoke slowly filled the air around her, the pirate was staring with a bit of a frown looking at her wallet. There was something wrong and she knew it, if she hadn't put a hundred in her wallet earlier she may not have noticed. Cinder was a space pirate, she had very loose terms when it came to ownership except when it came to her things; someone had taken money from her wallet. A couple nights before Merci had commented on her spending money coming up missing as well.
With her mind considering the possibilities of who in the house was taking the money her eyes fell upon a bag nearby. It was just a plain brown bag, from some special market, walking over Cinder looked inside noting a few old books with cracked leather covers old enough that they were surely expensive. The pirate's lip twitched, when she'd first arrived back the estate had almost been bankrupt because of Merci's spoiling of Dio and his expensive book habit the book spending had been slowed and almost stopped once she'd returned however looking down at the books Cinder realized this was one of several bags she'd seen in the past few days.
Turning sharply on her heels Cinder took the stairs two at a time moving up toward the fiend's room. Her heavy boots clicked on the hardwood floor once she hit the second floor and stalked toward the teen's room. Reaching up she banged twice on his door before opening it without another moment of warning, "Dio -" the pirate's anger came through as a cold dead tone when she spoke.

Dio had been doing one of the two things he loved best. Reading. His first favorite pastime was, of course, stargazing, but reading was a really close second runner up. The teenager had opted to start plowing through some of the books he'd gotten recently. If he didn't start putting nose to grindstone, he'd never find out anything about the Crux. He giggled inside for a second, as he had no nose he supposed he'd have to just put his whole face to the grindstone instead. So he'd decided to curl up in his bedroom. It was one of the rare times he had legs, and he was sitting indian style with a rather large book cradled in his lap. He was dressed comfortably. The teenager was in his usual tunic, and with the addition of legs, he sported a loose pair of wide legged pants.
He literally jumped when Cinder rapped on his door, then opened it. It was an immediate fight or flight response. His body reacted before he had time to figure out what was going on. The fiend phased out of sync with the world around him. Dio become incorporeal and thus much harder to hurt. The heavy book passed right through his body and landed with a tiny bounce on the bed beneath the fiend. 'Oh!' When he realized who it was, he relaxed a bit. 'You startled me.' His wide burgundy eye was fixed on her.
It was then felt the anger. Empathy was one of the gifts that most fiends had, and he was now starting to feel anxious. He couldn't think of the thing he'd done wrong recently. At least he couldn't think of what would make her react so violently. 'Are.... you okay?' He asked her quietly. Dio hoped that if he was quiet, she'd forgive him more easily for whatever trespass he was guilty of.

Cinder stood in the door of the Dio's room and looked over the fiend's things before resting her gaze on the mass of glitter that was Dio, "I'm going to ask you sometimes and when I do you need to think very carefully about if it is a good idea to lie to me about them - do you understand?" Dio's meek state actually had helped him some since he wasn't fighting or harsh it had left the pirate more at ease, she didn't feel like she had to exert her authority over the situation.
Holding her hand up Cinder showed Dio her wallet, "money is missing, quite a bit of money actually and I know that Merci has had some money missing lately as well," her eyes narrowed a bit at the fiend. "I noticed that your book spending seems to have started up again as well." Cinder glanced over Dio's room her eyes dropping toward new books and papers that seemed to be showing up recently.
"So think carefully Dio - where has the money been going?" Cinder's voice was hushed and deadly serious, she paused and took a long drag from her cheroot as she watched the fiend and waited for his response.

The teenager blinked and he floated upwards. His legs quickly dissipated and his tail came back into existence. He could feel the slow boiling anger just under the surface. Even without the warning that was blatant in her voice, he knew that he was on thin ice. 'I... I've been taking the money.' His tone was quiet, and his body language was submissive.
He could see the fact that he copped so easily took Cinder slightly aback. Dio seized that opportunity to try and explain, before she found a way to strangle him despite the fact he was out of phase with the physical plane. 'It's not for books! I still have it. It's over here in this box.' The small fiend darted across to a set of shelves, and his fingers closed around a small carved wooden box. The lid had been hand carved, and it depicted several stars and some wispy clouds. Dio had always liked it a lot.
The black fiend turned his head toward Cinder, and his one visible eye was full of worry. 'I needed it. I have to save her.' He pulled the box from it's hiding spot and drifted back across the room toward the angry pirate. 'I wasn't sure what else to do....' He trailed off, knowing that he'd probably have to explain. Maybe she'd understand, Dio just wasn't sure how he was going to communicate everything clearly.
After all, how did he explain that a star told him to? 'The books, I got those with the present you got me last Christmas. I've been saving it up. I didn't really have anything I really wanted until recently.' He hadn't realized how guilty the old books would make him look. Now that she'd confronted him, he felt a bit sheepish.

Cinder was truthfully surprised the Dio confessed so easily - she really wasn't use to this sort of thing coming out without some sort of violence, she did remind herself that she wasn't confronting another pirate but rather ... well a shadow version of a teen. Her anger spiked when he confessed but simmered quickly, her eyes shifted over toward the box.
Frowning some she held her hand out and motioned to Dio to give her the box, "Who is her? And why exactly did you think stealing from us was going to help?" She was curious and when she stated it was to save someone she admittedly softened some. Not everyone was worth bothering over but Cinder knew enough about Dio to consider what sort of -someone- he'd feel needed money to be saved.
For now Cinder was willing to listen, she moved slightly and leaned against the wall waiting for the teen to explain...and explain he'd better do. When it came to the books she considered and realized that it was possible...probably better for Dio in the end as well.

The teenager handed over the box. In it was every missing penny. He hadn't spent it on books, well, he probably would have if he hadn't run into Smokey that day. Regardless right now it probably saved him from a verbal tongue lashing he wouldn't have easily recovered from. 'You won't believe me. I have to save her though. She's trapped, and she won't ever have a second chance if I don't get her out of there.' He was so nervous, he realized he wasn't making any sense. So he decided to start from the beginning. 'I made my focus!' Dio turned and darted back over to his shelves. It took him a few minutes of rummaging around before he came out with it. The object was obviously hand made, and consisted of a mirror, with some odd spring like wire wrapped around it, and little rutilated quartz beads hanging from the bottom. He handled it like it was some sacred object.
He held it up in front of her and his voice got quiet. If his face wasn't so damned dark, Cinder might have seen him blush a little bit. 'Mystic told me in my dreams, he told me that someone needed my help. I didn't know what to do. He said the stars were trying to talk to me. Then, I heard it! Rutie umm, well he helped me I guess. It doesn't matter I found her, she's trapped inside a glass box at the museum. It took me forever to find her, but I don't know how to get her out. I.... I thought I could buy her.' He finished the last part a bit lamely. Dio knew that Merci wouldn't give him the money he needed, so he'd started pilfering.
He wasn't very good at it though it would seem.
His wide burgundy eye fixed on Cinder and he hugged the odd object to his chest. 'I have to save her. I'm the only one that knows she's even there.' He really, really didn't want her to take the money. He'd been gathering it up for months.

Hm, Cinder's anger lessened some hearing the tone of the fiend's mind voice. Cinder gave the 'focus' a look. "I'm not sure I really want to know how you plan to focus with that...and on what." Feeling more then a bit stubborn or perhaps just being herself she crossed her arms as she listened.
"Alright first off - who is /she/? I'm guessing some sort of fiend?" Cinder was familiar enough with the whole idea of the fiends that she figured it was a good place to start. "Also, a museum wouldn't let you buy something from them like that...especially not with the amount you had on you, and probably not with ten times that much depending."
Cinder takes the money and folds it over neatly and puts it in her wallet, watching Dio as she does. "Got a picture of her?" Cinder cut herself off from sighing, somehow the fiend was looking extra pitiable at the moment.

The teenager hugged the focus defensively to his chest and watched Cinder reclaim all his ill gotten cash. Part of him felt the loss, he'd worked really hard to try and take a little bit here and there so they wouldn't notice. Lately, however, he'd had to take more. The exhibit that she was a part of wouldn't be open for too much longer and he wanted to get her before she was gone. 'Yes... Well no, I mean she isn't one yet. She's like Mimetite and the other stones I've seen before they woke up. She needs my help if her soul is going to survive, she needs a guardian.' His one visible burgundy eye darted toward his bed side table. Now that he thought about it, he might have a pamphlet.
Dio turned and carefully placed the odd looking mirror back on the shelf. 'Mystic warned me. He told me that the stars were trying to tell me something important. I listened really hard but I couldn't hear them, it was so loud and jumbled. Everything I could hear were just the normal things, gossip, laughing, singing.' He babbled as he turned and floated across the room to rummage through one of the big piles of papers. 'It was Rutie, one day I was there with him and I don't think he meant to do it, but I could suddenly hear everything so clearly. It's.... It's like being just barely off of your radio station and hearing all the static, then suddenly tuning right in. I could hear instructions, one of them telling me how to make the focus. After I made it, I could hear the star that was trying to talk to me. She told me about the stone.' He moved to another pile, and another as he spoke. Finally he came up with a really colorful folded page. 'Here it is.'
Dio turned and floated over to Cinder and offered up his find. It was an advertisement for a Gem Exhibit at the nearby Durem Museum of Natural History. It boasted some of the rarest and most beautiful gems found on Gaia, most on loan from various well to do families such as the Von Helson's and the Gambino's. 'She's on page 3' He finally seemed to shut up. He hadn't really talked to anyone about any of this. It had been his own private struggle, and now that he'd given voice to it he felt a little sad. He'd kinda felt like if he could save her, he'd have proven to himself that he wasn't as weak and helpless as he'd always felt.

Cinder wasn't remorseful over taking the money back, she looked over to the focus and then Dio, "right so the stars told you about it..." frowning a little the pilot considered that, "always assumed the stars would have odd things to talk about anyways."
Stays relaxed and sighs a little listening to his rambling, "alright so a star told you about the stone...I'll go with believing it since well if you are a fiend as well."
Cinder flipped to the third page of the pamphlet, frowning some she looked over the page, "she's pretty..." her eyes drifted to the bottom of the picture, "you wouldn't have been able to buy her - she belongs to the Gambino family." Cinder left Dio to panic or whatever he was going to do and slowly flipped through the pamphlet, "lots of pretty stones in here actually..." Cinder's gaze drifted up and looked to Dio, "and it's awful important this stone gets to the shop."
Cinder sucked a breath in and stood up away from the wall tucking the pamphlet into her back pocket, "I'll help you get her."

The fiend floated quietly and watched Cinder as she looked over the leaflet. Mostly to cover the sinking feeling in his stomach Dio mumbled quietly, 'They tell me about everything. I know what people are doing all over the world because they watch and they tell me. Mostly it's things that don't affect me, but it's funny anyway. Also because there are so many of them, I have a hard time making out what they're saying sometimes.' He started wringing his hands.
When Cinder told him that he wouldn't be able to buy the stone, his stomach lurched. It was like the woman had reached out and grabbed his heart in her hand and squeezed it. Dio's mind reeled and he started to panic, his emotions overwhelming him and seeping out through his empathy.
He was about to speak again and ask what he should do, when she said she would help. The black fiend's visible burgundy eye widened and he floated closer to Cinder. Hopefulness now replaced the panic and he reached out to grip her arm gently, 'You'll help me save her? You promise? I have to get her out of there I just have to.' His face (or what face he had) was filled with joy, it was shining out of his eyes and practically rolled off of him in waves.

Cinder nodded, "I'll help you, but your going to have to pull your weight. We'll go later tonight. I'll need you to pull your own weight though," Cinder turned to look over at Dio, from looking at the pamphlet she could tell that the museum didn't have anything too exciting set up for the security system; especially considering she was going to take someone that could walk through walls with her.
"We need to go to the Warhammer I'm going to show you some schematics of things you'll need to know how to turn off." Cinder was going to have to have Dio work at turning sensors off for her - afterall the fiend could walk through walls but he couldn't bring the gems back through them with him.
Out in the hall a few tendrils of dark stuff curled around the wall as Tek clung against a nearby wall. The fiend wasn't eavesdropping at least that's what xe was telling xyrself, Tek had been moving along and noticed grumpiness coming from the general vacinity of Dio's room and followed it. Xe didn't know all that was going on but a rescue mission sounded exciting. Instead of pressing forward Tek moved back around the wall away from Dio's room and swiftly moved toward the room he shared with Rhys.
Rhys! We need to go on a rescue mission!

Dio nodded quickly and vehemently. He would do whatever it took. This was probably one of the most important things the teenager had ever done. The stars had invaded his dreams, hounded Mystic, he'd had to build a focus so he could speak to them to learn about this. No matter what he was going to save her.
He released Cinder and moved over to a drawer, he opened it and rummaged around inside. From within he pulled out a barrette, with little stars on it. It had been a gag gift from Vance, but Dio didn't care. He pulled his long hair to the side and clipped it back away from his face. The fiend was pretty sure this was going to be complicated, and he didn't want anything to mess it up. He turned back to the woman in the doorway, 'I won't hold you back, and I'll do whatever I have to. I have to save her.' He paused a moment and then he moved closer to Cinder again. 'I am sorry about the money. Really sorry.' Even though he didn't have a face, his eyes and the empathy he had projected the truth of his statement.

Cinder waited calmly by the door waiting for the fiend to prepare himself, "considering the technology used it shouldn't be hard to get her. We are going to liberate a few other things as well." Cinder started walking as she spoke assuming that the fiend would move to keep up with her. "What else we liberate won't be as unique as your star gem, don't want anything too easy to track."
Once downstairs Cinder pulled her jacket on and wrapped the wristband that would allow her to communicate with Mycroft remotely around her wrist. "We'll need a few supplies, but should be able to get her tonight." Cinder's body movements and tone had changed ever so slightly, there was the same coldness she'd shown when angry but this time it was calculating and thoughtful.
Rhys had been trying to sleep when Tek had returned to the room. Wincing a little he turned over and stared toward where the mind voice of the little shadow was originating from. "I don't know what your talking about...but no we don't."
It's true! Cinder and Dio are going on a rescue mission!
Rhys frowned toward Tek a moment before pulling himself up with a sigh, with a few quick motions Rhys pulled himself up along a small hidey hole in his room and peered out a small window that overlooked the front of the house. He could see Cinder and Dio exiting, his frown deepened. Cinder was wearing her wristband, which meant she had Mycroft with her...which meant 'work'. His mind went to what little he knew of the woman that was his genetic mother before he spoke, "Cinder didn't ask for our help...and well I'm not sure we'd be able to follow too easily."
It's good then that We know where they are going then.
Rhys looked over toward the strange shadow a moment, he knew he should just crawl back in bed and get the nap he'd laid down for...but he found himself responding to Tek otherwise. "It is good that you know."

Dio hurriedly shoved his things back where they belonged and chased after Cinder. 'You mean we're going to steal? Why would we do that? We only need to get the Sapphire.' He sounded unsure of this particular course of action. He wasn't a thief, he didn't want to take things that didn't belong to him. Though, wasn't that what he was going to do with the gem he wanted?
No! That was rescuing! She was a damsel in distress! Even if she didn't really know it yet. What would happen if she woke up and there was no one there? Or she was in that case and whoever she bonded to didn't know what was going on and left?
The ideas and scenarios were too horrible for him to think about, no matter what he would do what Cinder told him. The teenager followed her out of the house and he muttered quietly, 'Should we tell Merci where we're going?'

Cinder glanced over toward Dio as he spoke, "because there isn't much point in doing this if we don't. Plus she won't really be very safe if we just 'rescued' her. Because she'd be the only gem that they'd look for - this way we can create a distraction and keep sapphire safer." Cinder moved toward the garage and pulled her keys from her jacket.
Rhys hurriedly pulled a pair of boots and a dark jacket on, taking a few moments to make sure his wings had slid through the holes in the back fully. "Where are they going?"
The museum! Tek's voice pipped up triumphantly with the information.
Rhys frowned thoughtfully and headed out as well, though he kept his steps slower. He wanted Cinder to leave before he did hoping she wouldn't realize she was being followed.
Cinder slide into the truck and paused thoughtfully, "sure we'll call her," taking a phone from her pocket she dialed Merci's number with a quick movement of her thumb, "want to talk to her?"
