Niflhel was out patrolling again, he'd just got back from his trip with Polaris to Polaris... So he was now perched on a roof watching the city, in a way he was feeling a bit like batman. In his mind he was thinking considering, pondering even something to do with the coming holidays. Maybe... perhaps it was an odd idea, but just maybe they could call it truths for one night and exchange presents on Christmas. From his father's time in the service all he heard about was traditions and one of them, that dated back a while; was to call a truths on Christmas and exchange gifts. If they couldn't exchange gifts he'd just make sure to get everyone something. Even if it was just simple... or was he wasting his time?

The Squire frowned as he sat there watching as the dark of the night was still. Nothing seemed to be going on. Nothing at all... He moved from his perch running along the rooftops looking for anything that might be a problem. "I'd probably be wasting my time trying to get them all to get along for one night. Just a truce for a night would be nice enough."

He jumped from one roof top to another, and kept going searching for anything out of place. His thoughts turned from what to do to get everyone to give one night of kindness to his family. They were going to be here soon, what tomorrow? Grams said something about them getting in town on Wednesday. This was Thursday night, probably Friday by now. He stopped on one of the nicer roof tops with a garden and a bench and sat for a while. "Man I'm going to have to put up with my dad for at least a month.... if not longer."

He glanced up towards the stars, as he debated on what to do. He needed to tell them about Grams having tripped. He'd noticed small things like she couldn't always hold things like she use to or she couldn't stand up as long...

Speaking of Grams... across town she was busying herself with normal house keeping things. She'd finished cooking for the night, and part of the Thanksgiving dinner was done, it kept her from doing everything in one night or day as it use to be. She had gone upstairs since Azzo was out somewhere, likely kickboxing or something and got her knitting kit. She could knit and watch TV tonight, without having her Christmas gift surprise ruined. When she got to the living room she realized she left her glasses in the kitchen.

"Oh... my glasses. Dang nabit." She headed towards the kitchen. After she retrieved her glasses however, she once again found herself falling. She wasn't sure if there was a crack or what but whatever she'd done hurt. "Ow... Help!" She couldn't even get to the phone, or yell loud enough...

Merlin had come bolting down the stairs after hearing something, took one look a Grams and started barking, running to the door and scratching as he barked. Where was Azzo!?

Niflhel wasn't planning on going back for a while, he headed towards the park to do a once around. Pausing to see the time on the clock in the square before continuing on his way, if he didn't run into anything soon he'd just have to go home and sleep. Though there was always something in the park to dust, from his experience anyways. He searched high and he searched low, he even looked in the lake. Yet he continuously turned up empty handed. The Squire frowned as he headed back home in a slight sour mood. Why was it so quiet tonight? He continued to ask this question as he walked and checked alleyways and under passes. Normally there was some sort of activity, any sort, even a cat burglar would be nice right about now but nope, there wasn't even a cat burglar out tonight.

So Niflhel dejectedly finally gave up, supposing it was the cold weather keeping everyone in tonight and headed home. Maybe he'd pick up some hot chocolate for him and grams as well as some coffee cake. There was normally a small cafe still open this time of night, glancing around he powered down and entered to get the hot chocolate and coffee cake order. It took a little bit he hummed while waiting and when it finally was finished he smiled and thanked the cashier.

Heading back out into the cold he powered up again and headed home. The goods he'd sat down for a few seconds and picked them back up. Lucky him there was a bench to make use of. Humming along the way he seemed cheerful, while it wasn't quite December yet and the Christmas parade wasn't happening until Thursday he was still humming a carol. It was when he got home he noticed something wrong. The first sign something was wrong was he heard a distinct "berk berk berk berk" which meant Merlin was barking and when Niflhel got closer her heard the panicked scratching at the door.

Not thinking about powering down he slammed open the door narrowly missing the dog and rushed in somehow finding a second to slip the drinks and cake on the counter. "Oh damnit what happened!?" He asked as he stooped down to help her.

Her eyes widened as a terrorist came to her rescue. "Hey stop that," She tried to scoot away and winced, "It's none of your business get out of here before I call the cops."

Niflhel stopped looking at the old woman when she acted like she didn't know who he wa... oh right. His eyes narrowed. "Look here Grandma. I'm here to help you; you shouldn't be calling the police on help." He scoffed, "I doubt you could even get to the phone if you wanted to. Now if you would let me help you. I can get you to a doctor."

She was being stubborn like the Grams he knew and his arms folded as he stood back up. "Fine if you don't want help you sit there and rot. Do you have any loved ones you want me to call? I'm sure they'd enjoy knowing you stayed here and hurt when there was someone here to help you." He didn't like being mean to his grams but at this point it was either that or leave her here and come back as Azzo in a little while. He couldn't just waltz back in after being Niflhel and treating the way he had to.

"So what do you say old woman? You want my help or not?"

Grams frowned as the young terrorist was being quite mean and indecent. She was trying to move away but it hurt to move she sighed and finally nodded, "Fine...."

She sounded dejected but it was much better than getting beat over the head with a purse or something. The knight stooped down again and had her place one of her arms around his neck as he picked her up and helped her to the couch so she'd be more comfortable while waiting on the paramedics which he was about to call after he finished helping her to the living room. "Name's Niflhel. Squire of Saturn Ma'am; sorry for being so rude with you but you can't just sit there in pain and expect a Knight to pass up helping a damsel in distress. I was raised better than that."

The old woman thanked him quietly as he sat her down on the couch softly. "You're a knight?" She asked looking confused, the way the radio and the television talked all these funny dressed kids were terrorists not knights. "But... you're the ones destroying the city aren't you?"

He was on the phone giving information to the dispatcher holding up a finger when the woman asked about the terrorist. After hanging up the phone he looked at her sternly. "The only terrorist is the negaverse they are a military based.... group. They do bad things we knights and the sailor senshi have to stop." His brown eyes were steady on the older woman as he answered. "We try not to destroy the city but sometimes it ends up that way because we have to stop the bad guys."

She looked at him and sat quiet for a little while, "You should probably go before the ambulance gets here. Or they'll probably call the police."

"Yes ma'am they probably would." He said with a nod as he stood there not moving making sure she wasn't going to do something stupid.

"Really you should go... Maybe you could find my grandson?"

"Perhaps, where would he be at?"

"I... I don't know the gym maybe? I know he takes kickboxing seriously."

The squire nodded before moving towards the door, "I'll see what I can do," Merlin was trying to follow him, "Stay you mutt. You can't follow me you need to keep her company until the paramedics show up." Merlin sat down and whined as the knight left.

There were sounds of sirens in the distance and Niflhel took off towards the darker part of the street where the street lights didn't quite meet and the trees tended to block light from filtering onto the street. He wasn't sure if it was safe here, if he could power down he glanced around. Deciding against it he dashed off towards an empty part of the neighborhood where he knew no one lived. Picking his way carefully into the house he powered down and shimmied back out.

He sighed running a hand through his hair. "Man... what I am going to tell Ma and Pop..." His eyes traveled back to the house where the ambulance was now, the men entered with a stretcher and took Grams out. Azzo was sitting on the steps knowing they wouldn't come this way to go to the hospital when the opposite way was much better. He'd show up at the hospital, at least having showed up as a knight bought him time to think.

Head hung he looked troubled before pulling out a small piece of paper and a pen, which he now kept with him. He scrawled on the piece of paper a note for Polaris.

Call me when you get a chance... I have a major problem.
Niflhel

He folded the paper and scrawled Polaris on the front before pausing, he didn't have any wax he didn't carry any candles or a lighter... he paused what would be best to use to stamp the letter with? He looked around and picked up a piece of broken glass. He'd have to try it with blood and hope it worked... and within minutes he'd made a small cut and put it on the ring and with one quick stamp the letter disappeared.

After holding his handkerchief on his finger to stop the bleeding he looked at his cell phone. He was going to have to tell them but he couldn't bring himself to doing that right this minute. His first and most important thing in his head was making sure Merlin was where he wouldn't get into trouble, had food and water and then get to the hospital.

He ran up the street to his house and opened the door. "Merlin," He called as the dog came running whining at him. "No boy, I'm sorry you're going to have to stay here." He put out food and made sure there was enough water before shutting Merlin on the back porch, it was warmer than outside but if there was a mess it wouldn't be as bad.

After, all that was done he made a bee line for the hospital running all the way. When he got to the desk he had to stop to catch his breath. The cold air had taken it out of him since he wasn't powered when he was running and didn't think to bring a coat. When he managed to speak he asked for his grams and looked hopeful they already had her in a room or something. Instead he was told she was taken for x-rays. He looked annoyed because it was going to be a long wait and an even longer night.

Part 2: Breaking the News

Words: 1026

His parents were coming tomorrow, this was now Tuesday morning. Grams was still in the hospital they wanted to make sure everything was set right and nothing else was wrong. She'd convinced Azzo to go home but he couldn't sleep sitting there on the couch his hands ruffling his hair as the German Sheppard sat at his feet. "I dont want to tell them.... what would I say? They won't even take it well..." He muttered, the same thing for the past hour he'd been sitting there staring at the phone. He'd have to tell them eventually and for his parents finding out tomorrow would suck and telling them today would suck too.

No matter how Azzo looked at it this situation was not getting any better at all. The best thing he could hope for would be that his mom answered the phone. She would probably be the only thing keeping him from slamming it down the second it was answered. Taking a breath the boy dailed and then listened.

Once

Twice

Three times and then "Hello the Crowley Residence."

It was his mom; she was the only one that ever answered like that. "Hey mom..." Azzo trailed off hoping he hadn't woke her up.

"Oh Hi baby what's wrong?"

The one question he'd hoped would've waited for just a small amount of chit chat. "Uh... well I know you and dad are flying in tomorrow... but I uh.... well I wanted to let you know...." He trailed off again not sure how to word the whole thing or how to explain it and he certainly couldn't tell them he was a Superhero.

"Let me know what?"

He took a deep breath, "Grams fell and now she's in the hospital they think she fractured a femur and well she's sorta been tripping a lot lately and iunno what to do 'cause I dont want to leave her by herself but I have a job and stuff and I can't always be here and I wasn't here when she fell and.... Dad's going to kill me..." He had to take a breath and with the last words he spoke he sounded depressed. Like he knew he let his father down.

There was silence on the other end of the line for a while as his mom seemed to absorb all that information. "She fell?" This was the question that was eventually asked.

"Yes."

"And she's in the hospital?"

"Yup." Azzo replied again, looking a little unhappy about this.

"Andddd your worried your dad is gunna hate you 'cause you weren't there?"

Azzo paused staring at the phone was his mother drunk? Seriously she knew the answer to that question, he and his father already DIDN'T get along. Azzo wondered how long it'd take the woman to realize that. "Pretty much," Was the only answer he could muster though, and he waited to see if he heard irate screaming in the background of his father.

"That is a problem."

"Gee thanks mom." Yup she was a BIGGG help, biggest help ever and she wasn't making him feel better either. Instead he just felt worse about it and fell back into the couch he was sitting on.

"I'll talk to your father and see if I can't break it to him, but the next question is going to be what are we going to do with her because you know how stubborn she is."

Azzo paused, why his mother was asking that question. "Can't you take her back with you? I mean it'd technically be safer and away from all these gang wars and well you guys could spend some quality time together." He offered with a nod.

"Would you be coming too?"

"Mom, I can't leave. I have obligations here."

"Then she can't come live here. You know how much she loves you; she would go bat s**t wanting to see you and when she couldn't. You don't want to leave a little old lady heartbroken would you?"

Guilt trip, always with the guilt trips; normally he'd ignore them from his father but from his mother? It was like she was siding with the old man. Azzo stewed over this before shaking his head. "No.... I can't leave her heartbroken. However, I don't think it's safe for her stay here anymore either. I mean after all she fell while I wasn't here, and we can't afford a maid." He added with propose.

"We'll figure out something when we get there." She promised with that she hung up.

Azzo sighed and hung his end up as well. "Merlin this is the stupidest problem ever." He muttered before collapsing on the couch. While he had talked to Aurora earlier there was something he forgot to ask her instead of using the phone line he grabbed a piece of paper, which was oddly enough thanksgiving themed tissue paper and wrote on it.

Can you help with thanksgiving dinner? Grams only got it half done.
Niflhel

He folded it scrawled her name on it and then took one of the candles he'd set on the table, lit it and used the wax to send the letter to her. He hoped she'd be able to help him at least, that way thanksgiving dinner would still go off without a hitch. Even if it wasn't going to be the way Grams normally fixed it, his dad would have to get over it.

Pushing himself from the sofa he moved to the kitchen to find the stuff from last night still left there, he poured out the drinks and opened the bag with the cakes in it. At least they were still good, pulling out a coffee cake he sat at the table and started to munch on it and think. He had to devise an answer to their problems before his father and mother got in.

After he finished he grabbed up the phone book and started looking in it for numbers to places outside of the city. Maybe, if he could find a place close to her friends she'd be willing to go to an old folk's home. Those were okay right?
