Vanessa was already on her way to the training facilities. Ever since she'd gotten Volt, she'd had an itch to simply try him out, and now that she had the time to do so, the first thing on Vanessa's mind was training.
And seriously, who wouldn't want to shoot an electrical cannon at something?
Volt was, in Vanessa's opinion, similar to a cross between a tazer and a bazooka, but she wasn't exactly sure on the matter due to the fact that she'd never had a chance to fire him yet. As such, Vanessa had informed Volt that they were going to go attempt to electrocute something.
:: Hey Vanessa, watts up? Get it, watts? Like, as in electricity! It's funny, right? :: Vanessa rolled her eyes at the voice in her head, silently nudging him to get to his point. :: Alright, alright. I wanted to ask if we were really going to go shoot already. I mean, I guess I don't really need an outlet right now, but I mean if you need a conductor... :: The puns simply kept coming after that, and Vanessa decided to try to tune him out.
After all, she had some serious business training to take care of, here in the training areas. And she didn't really find that to be a laughing matter, despite Volt's constant need to make everything a joke.

Wilson still didn’t know what kind of weapon Gramps was, but he wasn’t too fazed by it. He appeared satisfied with calling Gramps a “catank” or “tank with cannons” and his partner, despite his constant nagging and complaining, didn’t seem too annoyed by it. Now too bad he still didn’t know how he was supposed to fight with Gramps. Any hints?
[You’re a smart youngin’, figure it out on your own.] Wilson frowned behind his gasmask. It almost sounded like that was code for “I don’t really know so you’re on your own kid.” Hands grasping the handles within the cannons, he looked down at the green blades protruding at the ends. At least he knew he could stab people.
[That’s the spirit! Now let’s get back to that Shadow Run.] He let out a groan at Gramps’ suggestion. “Really? You know how wonderful my last attempted turned out, right? Why don’t we try a different course instead? Or find someone to spar with?” Wilson spun around, searching for a kind soul he could spar with, hopefully someone who wouldn’t pummel him. There weren’t that many people, perhaps not even a single other person in sight.
He frowned, but as he looked around a second time he noticed a woman nearby. Eyes lit up as he ambled toward her, waving an arm to catch her attention. “Hey!” Hmm. Hadn’t he seen her a couple times before?

Vanessa was just about to start off toward another end of the training facility when she noticed a figure in the distance. Perhaps a spar was in order? She'd been planning on simply going into a training room and shooting to her heart's content, but this was better. After all, a spar meant she'd have to dodge and move, just like she would have to in reality. Yes, a spar would be much better.
As he came over, Vanessa raised a hand as a motionless wave and nodded to him. She looked him over, noting the mask and said, "...Wilson, right?" She asked, trying to trawl up the memory of this other hatchling's name. She was pretty sure it was Wilson, but she wanted to be certain of it. "I'm Vanessa, by the way." She said, as a way of providing her own name, since if she couldn't fully remember his, chances are he probably didn't know hers either.
She noticed that there was more to his weapon as her eyes flickered down to his hands, which were immersed in some gauntlet-style-somethings. If anything, he looked like he was ready for some kind of fight. She cut right to the point and said, "So, would you like to spar? After all, we do need the experience." She reached out, Volt flickering from his unsummoned form, the little tesla-cannon-like-lantern-pendant-thing, for a moment before materializing in her hand. The large Tesla Cannon weighed in her grasp, the long, futuristic-style barrel pointing toward the ground for the moment. The strange electrical chamber glowed and sparked within it's confines, as if Volt too was at least a little excited for the coming fight.

Considering that Wilson’s face was covered with a mask, he thought it pretty impressive of Vanessa to recall his name, but perhaps it was exactly the mask that identified him. Her hunch was right. Wilson knew her name, but it was a matter of remembering what it was. There had been so many introductions that sometimes the names and titles just melted all into one. “Yup!” he confirmed. “Vanessa? Gotcha. It’s nice to meet you.” They had already met before, but he couldn’t remember if they had personally spoken to one another until now. He extracted one hand out of a cannon, letting it dangle by his side as he offered a hand for her to shake.
“Oh, yeah! I’d really like a spar, yes. It’s like you’ve read my mind.” [Maybe she noticed you have your weapon out and ready.] Ahahaha…
Wilson replaced his sheepish smile with a quizzical look as she brought out a pendant. He wasn’t quite sure what it was supposed to be, but it looked like a hybrid of some high-tech cannon and a lantern. A second later he realized that this was probably Vanessa’s partner, and once it transformed into a large cannon his suspicions were confirmed.
Only one word escaped his mouth. “Wow.” Gramps, why couldn’t you be as cool as that? [Shut your piehole, whippersnapper!] Wilson suppressed a grin. “So, do we fight here or do you know if there’s some designated area where we can spar?”

If Wilson had asked, Vanessa would've mentioned that she realized it was him simply from the mask and the tattered coat. She gave a slight smile as she nodded, her guess at his name correct. "It's a pleasure to meet you too, Wilson." She said, shaking his hand before looking around.
The training field was just off to one side, and she motioned toward it with a hand after he accepted her invitation. "I assumed you might be looking for one, seeing as your weapon was already summoned." She said, confirming the unheard voice of the weapon's hunch. "I think that the fighting field is right over there."
She caught him looking at the pendant, and then Volt's summoned glory of a huge-blaster-from-who-knows-what-time-period. She flicked the hand that held Volt slightly, nodding at her weapon as Wilson one word and seemed to be in some slight awe of her partner. "This is Volt, by the way. Apparently he's a Tesla Cannon." She nodded again to the field, taking the steps necessary to get there before saying. "Here looks like a good place." And it did. It was far enough from the buildings that Vanessa didn't have to fear that Volt might fry some wires if she missed.
Vanessa took a some steps back to distance herself from Wilson. Then she slipped the Tesla Cannon onto her right shoulder, that arm wrapping around it so she could grasp the handles on the side of Volt's top half. Her left hand quickly moved to the other handle, one finger finding the trigger. "Prepare yourself." She said, the words both to Wilson and Volt. She wasn't exactly sure how Volt's attack would occur, so...She firmed her stance, ready for the potential back-kick of the weapon, and pressed her finger to the trigger.
The electricity beam shot from the barrel with speed of lightning, tearing through the air in Wilson's general direction. Vanessa had to take a step back from the weapon's kick, her stance firming up again. Vanessa followed the electric beam's flight until it died out, leaving a slightly scorched patch of grass where it had hit, planting the information in her brain as to the general aiming mechanisms of her weapon. At least she knew how to fire and aim now.

Wilson still didn’t know who had bothered to tamper with his uniform, and he didn’t think he would ever find out. He wasn’t too disappointed about the revelation, but he was saddened to see that he would probably be toting around the tattered coat for an unknown amount of time, but he figured it would be a while.
[Heh. See? I told you.] Gramps wheezed, although his tone sounded incredibly smug at his assumption. An amused smile only tugged at his hunter’s lips. “A very good assumption.” He followed her gesture and spotted the field. Wilson nodded as confirmation. “Alright then.”
“A Tesla cannon? Like the car?” It was the first thing that popped into his mind and the thought escaped his mouth before he could think it over. “Strike that, probably not…” He held up both of his arms, the wires jostling as they moved. “This is Dabir, but I just like to call him Gramps.” Wilson smiled good-naturedly and it almost turned playful as Gramps indignant shout echoed in his mind. Once they reached the designated area he stopped, but Vanessa strolled a bit farther to distance herself from him. He took the moment to examine her weapon. The name seemed to imply that its attack would be electricity-based…
She slipped it onto her shoulder, one arm grasping it while the other went to the handle and trigger. Vanessa uttered two words and he slid into a neutral stance, prepared to jump in any direction on a moment’s notice. The next moment, the cannon had released a crackling beam of energy. While it had missed its target, Wilson had also managed to jump farther away from it. He looked at the slightly singed patch of grass and he couldn’t stop himself from whistling. “Wow. I’ll have to be careful of that.” Then he readied his weapon. “Looks like it’s my turn now.”
[You don’t need to stab her if you want, just so you know.] Wait, really?! [Sure, just like that one time. Won’t be as strong, though.] Wilson imagined Gramps shrugging somehow. I’ll uh, try that? He sprinted forward, closing the distance between them until he finally found the toggle.
There was a hiss as the cannons sprayed out fumes, bright green and probably a bit noxious.

Vanessa tipped her head slightly to his response about tesla cannons and cars, but simply nodded when he said to strike that out. She gave another nod to his weapon and it's peculiar nickname. "Gramps? I see." She said, trying to puzzle together why the weapon would be called that, then said, "Oh, and Volt's full name is Voltaire. For the record." She said, looking to the Tesla Cannon as he made a dismayed noise in her head. Apparently he didn't like his complete name getting tossed out. Good to know.
After her failed shot, Wilson was up to bat. She tipped the cannon off her shoulder, just in case she needed to move out of the way of a stab. Instead though, she found herself encompassed by a fog of green. She coughed, feeling the haze attacking her from the inside. Definitely a poisonous weapon. Great. "I can see-" She coughed before finishing her statement, "why you have a gas mask now."
Ohhboy, that poison was pretty strong. After it finally dissipated from her system, she grimaced, realizing how much damage it'd done to her. Well, no time to be worried about that. She had a spar to continue.
She raised the weapon to her shoulder again, actually taking a moment to focus on Wilson this time, and gripped the handles. Her finger found the trigger, and she pressed it. At this close range, there was little chance of her actually missing. The blast of energy flew from Volt's barrel, crackling like a lightning bolt as it flew straight for Wilson. Vanessa actually had to take a bit of a step back as the power of the blast shot out.
:: Are you just shocked, Vanessa? You should've realized I can be quite the live wire when I'm fired this close in combat.:: Vanessa simply mentally punted Volt as the weapon spoke. Of course, there was puns. With Volt, there was never not puns.

She seemed puzzled at the nickname so Wilson hastily explained, “He sounds like my grandpa, so I just call him Gramps.” In fact, he was starting to miss his Grandpa Hopkins a bit. [Youngin’, don’t you dare get sentimental on me. We’ve got a battle! Why, when I was younger we didn’t—] Wilson attempted to tune his partner out.
As the other trainee became surrounded by the poisonous fumes, Wilson stood back and adjusted his mask. He stayed silent while she coughed and struggled through the green haze, though she managed to point out why he had been given a gasmask in the first place. His eyes crinkled and he smiled, though he doubted Vanessa would be able to notice. “Yeah. I almost left it behind when I first got Gramps, but I’m glad he knocked some sense into me.” He chuckled.
The cloud dissipated, sending Wilson back on alert as he prepped himself for Vanessa’s next attack. Unsurprisingly, she raised her cannon and took a moment to focus. [Youngin’, should you really be waiting for that?] Oh wait, should I be moving away— She pulled the trigger and electrocuted the poor lad. He swore he could still hear the crackle of electricity in the air and coursing through his body. A jittery hand reached up to delicately press against his head, shaking away the shock. “Wow. That was certainly something.”
[Youngin', we got a problem here...] Huh? He looked down at his weapon, which continued to crackle with energy. Frowning, Wilson shook the cannons, but the electricity just wouldn't go away. He pulled at the handles, but only a small squirt of gas came out. "Haha...well. That was pathetic." At least this was just a spar.

Vanessa gave a nod when Wilsom explained the nickname. She wouldn't taken the time to explain Volt's, but as it was rather self-explanitory in nature, she didn't think she really needed to do so. After all, it was implied that a weapon with the nickname Volt probably was electrical.
She nodded when he mentioned almost leaving behind the mask, still recovering from the last of the fumes. Now was probably not the time to talk.
When Volt's attack had stuck home, Vanessa noticed how jittery it had caused the other trainee to be. She hadn't expected Volt to pack that much of a punch, but felt herself feel a bit proud of Volt's actual strength. "Good to know that's what his attack does to others." She said, jotting down the electrocution notes in her brain for later use.
As the electricity crackled on within Wilson's weapon, Vanessa felt her interest increase a bit. How had the electricity stalled the other weapon? Volt could do that? After the gauntlets shot out a little gust of fumes, Vanessa tried to bat them away with a hand, trying not to inhale too many of them. They still hurt, but not nearly as badly as before. "Just why we need the practice. Now you know that Gramps may malfunction slightly when electrically charged." Experience was good after all.
Vanessa placed Volt back on her shoulder, but then paused and took him back down. She decided it might be good to let the other's weapon recover at least a bit from the shock. Instead, she gripped the large weapon by it's handles and raced forward. She swung the huge cannon's bulk at the other trainee, letting the momentum of her weapon's weight propel the cannon forward.
Her hit was light in comparison to the actual shot of the cannon. At least now she knew that it would be harder to deal damage using the bulk of the weapon.

He curiously cocked his head. Vanessa didn’t appear to be too willing to speak, but after a moment of thought he figured that it wasn’t too smart to chat and fight at the same time, practice battle or not.
Wilson laughed at her words as he forcefully shook away the rest of his trembling. “Not every day I get electrocuted, after all,” he reasoned, though he figured that depending on the strength of the charge he wouldn’t be shaking as much. The amusement dissipated from his face as he continued to shake his cannon-covered arms. Gramps! [Sorry, Youngin’!] He grumbled, displeased with the sudden revelation. “Then I’ll just make sure Gramps won’t malfunction from now on.” What exactly did that entail? Somehow dodging electrical attacks or something else altogether?
The crackles of light swirling around his body seemed to completely disappear, but Wilson warily eyed his weapon through his mask. Would Gramps still mess up or not? [Have faith in me, youngster!] Yeah, oka— “Woah!” Wires clanged noisily as he raised his arms and curled his back inwards, like he was receiving a punch to the stomach. The Tesla cannon still managed to smack him in the side, but the hit was noticeably light. He redirected his gaze from the weapon to Vanessa. Perhaps she wasn’t used to heaving the thing around yet.
He returned the swing with one of his own, jabbing one of the bright green spikes into the other trainee’s side. Not as effective as he had hoped, but at least he now realized that he wouldn’t be completely hopeless if the poisonous gas somehow depleted for one reason or another.
Then Wilson tried to bridge a gap between them—melee was not his thing.

"Exactly. It's good to know what you can and can't work against, after all." Vanessa said with a nod as she watched Wilson shaking his gauntlet-cannons. She actually hadn't expected the Tesla Cannon to pack such a shocking hit, but she supposed she probably should of. It was a bolt of electrical power, so of course it would shock things. But she hadn't expected it to actually, of only slightly, paralyze another weapon. That was good information to know for the future.
Her swing hadn't done too much damage, but she had been mostly focusing on simply getting a hang on the bulk of her weapon. Perhaps she could stab someone with the barrel? It was made out a lattice of pointed ends, after all...
:: Vanessa I don't think I like where that train of thought is going. I'm a long range weapon. :: For once, the telsa cannon's voice was kind of serious. Vanessa gave an mental grin at the weapon and thought back, 'Stop joking around during battle and I won't try stabbing with you.' After a few moments of silence, sweet, sweet silence, she thought to him again, 'Good cannon. Now let's get back to work.' The cannon grumbled a bit, a sound that reminded the life hunter of static, but didn't argue.
And then Wilson was stabbing her. She'd been so distracted with bargaining with her weapon that she hadn't put her guard up. The hit could've been harder, but Vanessa was a bit surprised by the power Wilson had been able to put into that stab. "Nice hit." She said, likewise moving backwards to give them some shooting range. Volt obviously was not a melee weapon, so she decided to move back to her strong suit; Shooting.
She pulled up into a stance from which she'd be able to aim again, then set her sights on Wilson. The electrical chamber crackled near her ear, a sort of humming, sparking sound, and she tightened her grip on the handles. She took an extra moment to make sure her aim wasn't off, then fired. Right as she was pulling back on the trigger, one foot slipped a bit on the grass, and her aim tipped ever so slightly. It would've been a better shot, but at least it was still barreling toward the Death Trainee.

Wilson hadn’t expected the after effects either. He frowned. Gramps. I’m disappointed in you. [Ha! Look who’s talking! Why I oughta—] He shook the cannons, effectively silencing the weapon for the time being.
Her lack of response leading up to his swipe made him curious. Was Vanessa having a conversation with her partner? Perhaps even spacing out for a bit? Even though he didn’t know her very well she didn’t seem like the type to space out during a spar. However, those precious seconds were probably what had allowed him to squeeze in a decent stab to her side. Wilson smiled, but she wouldn’t be able to see behind the mask. “Thank you.”
He moved back, but Vanessa had done so as well and intended to aim her cannon at him again. He attempted to move out of the way, sidestepping out of her aim, but she had already fired her weapon. Eyes widened as the streak of electricity head toward him. Wilson kept trying to move more, but it was quick—fortunately the Life trainee’s aim had been slightly off. His left arm spazzed from the energy, but there was not much else from the attack. Wilson breathed a sigh of relief. At least Gramps hadn’t freaked out this time around.
Again, he lifted his arms to spew out a stream of poisonous gas. Although it was quite an amount, perhaps it would have been wiser for him to do it at a closer distance—by the time the cloud reached Vanessa it wasn’t as effective as before, since most of it had diffused into the air already.

Wilson really wasn't that bad of a sparring partner, that much was becoming clear to Vanessa. It might of been her little bargaining time, but something had given Wilson a good stab and she was, what, a bit proud of him, maybe? She nodded to his thanks, in any case. "Praise where it's due, of course." She said, taking a moment to glance down at her side, as if to check to make sure the hit hadn't punctured her, before returning to the actual matter at hand.
Her last hit had actually landed, and apparently done some paralyzing effect on Wilson's left arm for but a moment. That meant that only a direct hit could actually paralyze, then...
Again, the volley of noxious gas was spewed in her direction, and she coughed as some went down her lungs. It hadn't been as bad of a hit this time, so the distance must've dispersed some of the gas. It was fascinating, really. Still, she had a spar to fight.
The Life trainee pulled her weapon up again, the cannon crackling by her head as the electricity snapped around in the containment chamber, and she readied her aim. She shot, the electrical blast arcing out and barely roaring past Wilson. "Is it clear that I need to do more target practice yet?" She asked after her attack missed, clearly displeased with her own lack of good aiming skills.

He was a decent sparring partner, but something told Wilson he could be doing better. His hits didn’t feel like they hit as much as they could have, but he admitted it was better than repeatedly missing attack after attack. Past memories of constantly failing the sun course and other real-time battles tugged at the back of his mind. The recall caused him to visibly wince. Another smile behind the mask, but the amusement was still evident in his reply, “You’re too kind.”
Wilson was still new to the whole sparring and fighting business. It hadn’t been long since he woke up, forced into this unusual role of a hunter. He briefly went through the days—about a week, perhaps? There was a decent chance he would improve as time went on, but there was a peculiar tug in the back of his mind. It would take a long time to grow accustomed to fighting. [Wilbert.] It’s Wilson. Gramps kept yakking. [Have faith in yourself, youngin’! Now get going!]
So he obeyed and moved forward. The creature’s raspy laugh rang against the walls of his head as he released another cloud of the green mist with a quiet hiss, the gas billowing as it covered both trainees. “I’m sure it’ll get better with practice,” Wilson assured. “Maybe we can do a course or have another spar again sometime.”

Vanessa gave a shrug and head shake to Wilson's refutation of her comment, the smallest smile at the banter evident on her face, "Only as kind as the situation calls for." A true enough statement, in all actuality. Vanessa wasn't really known for a cheerful and friendly attitude, but for some reason, sparring with Wilson seemed to bring out some of her better traits.
They were still both new to this whole Hunter business, but they seemed to be doing rather well so far for how long they'd actually been training. Volt crackled happily in her hands, encouraging her to go on.
The smoke puffed out of Wilson's weapon, and Vanessa found herself coughing again. "Well, hopefully we'll both get better." How hard was it to shoot lightning in a straight line? "And sure. Whenever you'd like to spar or attempt a course, we can. I'm always open for training." As she spoke, her hand moved to the trigger again and she fired at the other trainee. It was just a glancing shot, more meant to test her aim under distracted attention than anything else.
