Jeremy had regrettably missed out on the early morning sparring thanks to some unfortunate burns that needed a little bit more than a single night to heal without causing intense damage. At least that was what his excuse was should anyone ask, though he wasn't entirely lying; his burns had made his everything hurt to the point of not being able to move well! He didn't want to miss out though, so once he had healed some, he texted Ben for a match; the response was fairly fast, setting the date and time for a meet up and a practice match.

The day of Jeremy was sure to properly do his stretches, eat a decent breakfast (as decent as it could be here, sigh), and arrive to the training field early, just in case. All he had to do now, was wait for Ben.

So he waited.

And waited.

And waited.

And listened to Elsie as she decided to become an opera player due to boredom, but seemed to get singing and screaming mixed up as she went through the alphabet a few times to 'practice'.

But he still waited, and waited, until finally he flicked out his phone to check the time.

"Where the ******** is he...?" The trainee grumbled under his breath, tucking the phone back into a pocket.

Caelius stared down at his cell phone. Who the hell was Jeremy?

Word of the incomplete mission had travelled through the divisions about as fast as anything else, really, and the more intelligent Hunters had decided that it was probably best to give the Death Hunter leader a wider range of space, more so than the usual. Which pretty much meant the hospital room was empty as said Death Hunter stared at his cell phone one more time.

All ranked Hunters, when they passed away, immediately had all the real-time backed contents of their cell phone forwarded to their respective division leader: everything from texts incoming and outgoing to complete and incomplete tasks and missions. One thing Caelius had at least begrudgingly appreciated from the deceased Hunter was their organization when it came to schedules. Things usually got done in time. Usually.

Which brought him back to the situation at hand, a simple text from one Jeremy mentioning a simple training exercise appointment. With an irate sigh, the Death Hunter forwarded the number to his own sendbox, began writing away-

- And then stopped.

Change of plans. Why not pay this mythical person a little visit? He really did not like nameless faces, and according to the information given, Jeremy was a trainee and therefore under the Death Hunter's assigned jurisdiction.

The entire 'hospital' seemed empty as Caelius strode out. It felt as if he had been resting for much longer than eight days, and the signs of stagnation showed. Even walking to the training field left him with a hitch in his breath, his left leg seizing up painfully, and his side starting to hurt all over again as the anesthesia wore off. He simply wrote it off as insignificant.

And that was pretty much the condition Jeremy saw Caelius in as the Death Hunter literally strode right up in front of the trainee with an expression that was slightly better than a scowl that could freeze better men in their tracks. "So, you're Jeremy." This was a statement, not a question.

Mission: Wait for Ben was becoming exhausting, and he had just decided to give up on waiting when he saw someone stride towards him. Err, was that Ben? No, it couldn't be---wait. Wait. Oh s**t! He knew who this was! Ooooh ******** trainee straightened just a little bit as he was addressed.

"Yes, Sir." Jeremy was not an idiot, he knew who this was and what he was capable of. But...why was he here? Where was Ben? Did Ben leave? More importantly: why did he look like someone spit in his soup? Or gave him one percent milk instead of two? Perhaps they gave him cheerios instead of fruit loops in an attempt to make him...cheery-oh? Err.

"So uh, what brings you out here...?"
PostPosted: Sun Nov 20, 2011 4:16 pm

"What brings me here." Caelius repeated, sounding pretty much like someone had given him water instead of two percent milk.

A blank look followed, and the Death Hunter was more than happy to oblige. "You mean what brings me here to examine why the ******** we have an errant trainee not only skipping out on mandatory missions but also every single assigned training session post Haunted House mission." Another pause as he let Jeremy take the words in. "Or do you mean, why am I here to decide whether or not I should dismiss you permanently?"

There was no way of mistaking exactly what 'dismissing permanently' meant.

Yup, someone definitely screwed up his meal order today.

That pause certainly helped the words sink in; was it his imagination, or did he suddenly feel smaller? Err, probably not his imagination, as he visibly shrank back from the weight of those particular words. Jeremy really had no explanation as to why he skipped out, other than the whole never been responsible before thing. Ever.

"Definitely not the second one, sir." He managed meekly, barely able to hear himself through the frantic beating of his own terrified little heart.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:06 pm

If only he had a nickle for every single time a trainee talked back to him. He would probably still be the same pissed off and generally unpredictable Death Hunter leader he was now.

"Definitely." Caelius gave Jeremy a strange look, as if assessing their potential value, which did not denotate to positive figures currently. "That means that you consider yourself, despite skipping all training sessions, to have a fighting chance at remaining here."

It was a simple yes or no question, really.

"That's...why I asked Ben to spar with me." He pointed out, trying to sound normal and very likely failing; Caelius was and always would be a frightening man, even if he was wounded and on the mend. Hell, his corpse would be just as bad! "To try and catch up." His instincts to defend were starting to kick in, but that was probably because he was being faced with death...so word vomit happened. "...Because I don't have an excuse for before but for after it was for healing and I really didn't mean to fall so far behind and Ben seemed more approachable because lets face it you're <******** scary and---"

Jeremy stopped, cringing and biting the inside of his cheek to pre-emptively silence any further word vomiting.

Err, uh, s**t.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 20, 2011 7:02 pm

And then Caelius simply smiled. It was by far a pleasant one, and despite the fact that under his coat there were probably enough bandages to wrap a mummy five times over, he did not seem to be, in the least, deterred.

"I am <******** scary am I?" Perhaps he just really enjoyed repeating words to make trainees realize how stupid they sounded: for the most part this worked a little too well. There was no time to ponder on that train of thought as suddenly, his scythe - Circe - was in his hand. "Well, I'll let you in on a little problem, you see, Ben is currently indisposed." More like dead. "And since you are quite out of shape, and I am, as you put it, <******** scary, I think I am honour-bound to fight you in a fair duel to resolve these complications."

Because Caelius really believed in honour about just as much as he believed in fair matches. "And I'll tell you what, if you manage to get a good hit in, I'll waive your execution."

If any other trainees had been spreading rumours about how Circe was really not that intimidating, they had probably never been that close to dying by it.

If Jeremy ever wished that his future self invited time travel, it was now. Then he could go back in time and correct this little, ah, mistake. But since Future!Jeremy didn't reappear, the best he could do was flinch and feel his chest get heavy with regret, his stomach twisting painfully under that not-so-reassuring smile.

"That...is quite the problem, Sir." He squeaked out, gaze entirely on Circe. He'd seen it in action, but it had never been as scary to him as it did in this moment.

Yeah, he was going to die.

"Err...O-okay!" It was better to at least try fighting, right? No use dying like the complete coward he could be. Swallowing hard, he drew out his pocket watch and within moments Elsie's flaming anchor hit the ground with a heavy thud. All he had to do was get a good hit in. That was it. A Trainee, getting a good hit in on a Division Leader. Not so hard, right? He was wounded, after all. Just...don't ******** this up.

The at first lazy swings of Elsie's chains grew wider and faster, until finally he redirected the momentum towards Caelius.

If it was any consolation, the end of Jeremy's weapon might have bumped against Circe. It was rather hard to forget, after all, that this was the same weapon that had sent those creatures AND trainees bowling in the Haunted House incident.

And if anything, Caelius looked slightly entertained, which meant he was frowning less than usual: being stuck to a bed for nearly a week did that to people. He waited, almost a little too politely until the trainee was done. "My turn."

Jeremy did not even manage to see the attack before he was literally staring up at the sky.

"Get up trainee." The Death Hunter did not seem to care if there was a ringing noise, or if he was pretty much passed out at this point. "I thought you were here to waive your execution." They simply stood there and waited patiently for the next attempt at an attack.

OOC

Making a critical attack:
- Each turn, instead of rolling the conventional 2d12, roll a 100-sided dice. Match the dice roll to the results below:
1- 20: Jeremy is stunned and cannot get up this round
21- 50: He manages to get up but misses, managing to slip on the grass instead (-10 HP)
51 -70: He manages to get a glancing blow against Circe, but the recoil hurts him for damage (-10 HP)
71 - 90: The blow seems fairly solid, but Caelius has not budged an inch.
91 - 100: Jeremy manages to get a solid blow in. Game over???

My Turn.

That was all he heard before he was looking at the sky, his entire body feeling like he ran into a brick wall again. How the hell---! This made no sense, there wasn't any brick wal----Oh. Right. Okay, so he wasn't a brick wall, but he was still a force to be reckoned with! His hands rested on the ground over his shoulder, rolling his weight back and kicking forward to get back to his feet. It took him a moment after he was up again to grip Elsie once more, this time putting enough force to hoist her anchor off the ground, giving her a swing or two for momentum's sake.

"I am!" He said belatedly, redirecting Elsie's momentum towards Caelius with a kick.

Surprisingly enough, the trainee managed to get up, and after some more waiting - how the hell Moon Hunters just sat around ******** waiting Caelius would never know - there was a light clang as Jeremy's blow struck true, weapon colliding against weapon. And while Circe did not budge even an inch, it was obvious that the Death Hunter was surprised that the trainee actually managed to strike without missing all over the place.

That and, Caelius realized with some annoyance, he was entirely out of shape. He could imagine Dr. H standing in a corner right now, stroking his godforsaken chin probably with some sort of expression: 'Oh hmm... is Caelius weak, that is a pity, such a pity. I'll just have to take over his division now won't I?' Over his dead ******** body.

And because the Death Hunter really, did not give a damn about positive reinforcement, he gave Jeremy the most withering look he could muster. "Is that all trainee? I said a good hit in not a light hit, I expected more after so much goddamn waiting for you just to swing it." A second later, Circe was in de-summoned form again, hovering over Caelius's shoulder, the Death Hunter holding his hand out. "Your weapon, please. And no, don't de-summon it."

Even faced with execution, Jeremy was getting irritated at the taunting. A good hit? That was a ******** good hit you gothic reject, he growled in his head. He wouldn't dare say it out loud, not with Circe so close to being able to murder him with one eighth of a thought. Elsie was still too heavy for him to swing around with ease, he was going his best with what he had; chains weren't exactly awesome to throw. Sure it was a little easier to toss chains than it would be for a rope, but it was nowhere near good hit status.

Golden eyes flickered down to the outstretched hand and back up to the Division Leader's face. He wanted...what? Why would he want Elsie? He had his own weapon! If he took Elsie, he'd have nothing to defend himself with and what's worse, he'd have no easier time getting a good hit in! Oh hell no!

"No." Jeremy frowned, clutching Elsie's chains all the tighter. "Why?" He added, as an afterthought.

"That was not a suggestion, trainee." Considering that Caelius was the reason a good amount of trainees had weapons in the first place, it was not too far a stretch to conclude that he probably would not be going on a weapon destroying rampage any time soon.

There was a slightly dangerous glint to his eyes. "Or would you like to trade weapons as a fair exchange?"

Jeremy cringed again at that tone. He really, really didn't want to give up Elsie, no matter how much the little b***h annoyed him or gave him headaches. He didn't even know what would happen if he did give her up. There were too many questions, not enough answers, and he certainly didn't have the balls to demand them; at least not with Caelius. Maybe he should ask to borrow Ariane's weapons; she had balls to spare, and didn't really need them (in his opinion).

"...Trade?" He said stupidly, looking over at the desummoned weapon as it floated about. Err...how was that fair? That scythe was a division leader's weapon. Elsie? Elsie was a wailing pup, almost literally. "Is that even allowed?" There was barely a moment's pause before the weapon in question started to wail again.

< NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO >

"...Would that mean I'd, you know, not hear Elsie for a bit?" It was, in this moment, a little tempting. Caelius couldn't off him with his scythe if it wasn't in his possession, right?! Then again, it would be incredibly embarrassing to be killed by your own weapon...

He didn't quite realize it, but he was already starting to hold out the steel chains.
