Jazi was hungry. It wasn’t all that startling really, in fact it was a very common occurrence. It would usually be solved by Painti sharing his meal with her. Unfortunately for the Goddess the genet was nowhere to be found which left her to fend for herself. It was something she could do, but she wasn’t very good at. Not to mention it was hot, and she was feeling lazy.
With a sigh the rainbow coloured Goddess pushed herself to her paws, trading her usual form for her mortal one. It was easier to hunt when you didn’t have to worry about tripping over your wings. She’d had to learn that the hard way. Her mortal form was quite similar to that of her normal one, just she didn’t have any wings and her scarf seemed to mysteriously disappear. Oddly the nest that was nestled in her mane stayed, though it was vacant at the moment, Tooki off somewhere else.
Looking around she scented the air, paws flexing in the dirt. It wouldn’t be all that hard, she just had to find some antelope, pick out the sickly one and chase it down…without falling, or tripping, or generally messing things up. That would be the difficult part, at least for her. She was the Goddess of Clumsiness after all.
After a moment she picked up the scent of a nearby herd upwind and headed off in that direction, crouching low in the tall grass so she wouldn’t be easily seen as she stalked her prey. She managed to actually get close enough to the herd to see them, and it was while she was silently celebrating that victory that her larger one was stolen from her. She watched as a small olive and grey coloured lioness streaked out from the grass, scattering the herd even as she took down one of the smaller antelope.
Jazi frowned, put out. She was so close! And now she was still hungry. Violet eyes watched the antelope herd bound away before she turned her gaze onto the lioness. She supposed she could steal the kill, but that wasn’t very nice….Maybe the lioness would share?
Standing up Jazi made her way closer, clearing her throat as she did so. The lioness froze over the antelope turning to glare at the Goddess in disguise. Obviously she didn’t like anyone near her dinner. The usually cheerful lioness sighed looking down at the antelope and then back to the lioness. “I don’t suppose you’d want to share a bit of that? You see, I was just stalking the same herd and you scattered them all.” Her stomach chose that moment to grumble and she frowned again. She didn’t think she was that hungry.
Kibweti stared at the multi-coloured lioness in front of her, blood red eyes narrowed, obviously suspicious of her. “Why should I share with you?” Her words were low and a bit harsh. She wasn’t too keen on strangers, especially ones that wanted a free meal. She had grown up first in a pride that believed they were vampires, and then on her own from the time she was a juvenile. The years scavenging on her own had hardened her.
Jazi blinked not expecting to be asked that. “Oh, well, I’m hungry? And you just ran off the closest antelope herd…” She watched as the lioness snorted. “And? Go find another one. I’m not here to make your life easier and feed you. Go find your mother if you want that.” Jazi stepped back at the vehemence in the other lioness’s voice. She usually didn’t get that reaction. But she was usually in her Goddess form and mortals were more wary about pissing off Gods than they were other mortals.
For a moment she debated revealing herself and just demanding the kill, it would probably work. The lioness was on the smaller side which meant even though Jazi herself was small she’d be bigger than her. But that wasn’t her style. She didn’t like lording her Godliness over others. “Well, you don’t have to be quite so mean about it. I was only asking for a small bit, maybe just the leg, or the head.” While most lions didn’t go after the head because of the lack of soft meat Jazi knew that she was strong enough to crack the skull and get to the brain. While she preferred meat she would take whatever she could get.
The mortal lioness just stared at the other lioness, the head? She wanted the head? Nobody wanted the head. Maybe she was a bit crazy. She didn’t really enjoy crazy, she actually preferred to avoid crazy as best she could. It was in that moment that she noticed the bird nest in the lioness’ mane and it confirmed her thought. She was definitely crazy. “Uh, yeah, I guess you could have the head…” The only reason she was conceding was because she wasn’t going to eat the head in the first place, and maybe if she shared the unwanted bits the colourful slightly insane lioness would go away.
Kibweti looked down at her kill for a moment trying to figure out how she was going to remove the head. Jazi seemed to realize the lionesses dilemma and she took a step back. “I can wait until you’re done.” The disguised Goddess was so happy that she was going to get food that she didn’t mind waiting for a few minutes to eat it. Kibweti sidled away from the rainbow lioness, eventually putting her back to her so she could dig into the antelope corpse. She felt a little weird having the other female waiting for her to finish eating and it was that more than anything that had her tearing quickly through the corpse.
When she had eaten her fill she didn’t even stay to say anything more to the lioness. Instead she just took off leaving the mostly eaten antelope and the crazy lioness behind.
Jazi watched as the lioness took off and she didn’t hesitate to trot over to the kill and dig in. There wasn’t many meaty bits left, but she made it work, digging in deep until her stomach was finally satisfied.
