In her short time as a hunter candidate and then trainee, she had "died" twice - once during the test and once recently, during their first official mission. As much as she tried not to let it bother her, Ariane couldn't forget the way the flames scorched her, causing her to both freeze and heat up at the same time, the intensity of the pain she experienced in that brief few seconds refusing to leave her dreams.
Or rather, her nightmares.
While she was never one to seek the comfort of others, she found herself outside Jeremy's door, thinking about the newest recruits; she heard that a new batch had came in the other day, awoken from their pods the same way she had awoken all those months ago. That small part of her dared to hope that Dean was one of them - that he had finally woken up after leaving Jeremy and herself to wait for that long, like the old man he was... However, as she settled outside the new class of recruits, watching each of them as they filtered out, she realized that he wasn't there.
Perhaps he would never be there - it was time to face that, as much as she didn't want to... And she was sure Jeremy wouldn't have an easy time dealing with it either. With a sigh, she squared her shoulders and pretty much knocked on the door, "Hey Germ~ You in?"

Ariane hadn't been the only one to spy on the new recruits; sometime before they filtered out, the Sun Hunter had eavesdropped through the door, hoping to hear a familiar voice. He didn't hear Dean, so he didn't linger to watch them trickle out and instead holed himself up in his room, sprawling on his stomach on the bed, music blasting in his ears. It had been a while since he'd done this last, and probably the first time he did it without the whole being-pissed-off-at-Dean thing going on, but it was still almost reassuring in a way. An old routine that did somewhat make him feel better.
He just had to face that Dean wouldn't be on the other side of that door again.
Through a lull in his music he heard the knock, and god damn he'd be lying if he said his heart didn't leap into his throat. Was he wrong? Was Dean actually there? ...Naw, it was just Ariane, he thought with a sigh. Well, at least this part in history would likely always repeat itself.
"Door's open." He called out, settling his chin back into his folded arms, not getting up from the sprawl on the bed nor did he make a move to take off his headphones.

Strolling so casually into the room that it was like she was in her own room, Ariane closed the door behind her and headed straight for Jeremy before sitting down on him, pulling her legs up onto the bed; it was rather nostalgic... It had been a while since she had last done this.
"You heard, right?" She tugged at his headphones before resting an arm on his head, "About the new recruits."

Her added weight made him heavy a grunt, but he took it nonetheless. Yeah, old habits died hard, certainly. He ignored her for a moment, merely grumbling something into his sleeves before realizing she likely couldn't hear him.
"Heard, yes. Didn't stay long enough to see them." He informed her, his expression darkening. "I didn't hear his voice, so I didn't stay to meet them." What was the point, anyway? They had orientations to go through and the like, there was plenty of future chances to meet and get acquainted. With a deliberate sigh, leaned up enough to prop his chin in his hand, staring at her out of the corner of his eye and over his shoulder.
"When the ******** is that old man going to wake up?" He demanded, biting the nail on his closest finger.

"I stayed to check, to make sure," She replied casually, although it was obvious that she was disappointed; Jeremy would probably be able to see past all her acts anyway, so she didn't bother, "He wasn't there."
She lapsed into silence for a bit at his question.
"Ever thought about what if he never wakes up?" It was a serious question, and her face reflected that; for once, she wasn't teasing him or trying to get a specific reaction out of him. She wanted - needed - to know his answer, and she wanted him to be honest about it.

"Figured." Jeremy snorted, his nail still between his teeth. Ariane could rarely pull the wool over his eyes, and now was no exception; she was just as disappointed as he was, and why wouldn't she be? The three of them had grown up together and went onto the island together, and yet only two made it through to take up the white jacket and bear arms. Somehow, it didn't seem right...especially when Dean was the most responsible and the most dedicated of them all.
"Thought about it." He said honestly, having no reason to lie to her. "Just...don't want to accept it, yanno?" The finality of it wasn't what he wanted, that was all. Heaving a sigh he released his nail, flopping his upper torso fully on the bed, strictly because his back was hurting and not in some childish attempt to be, well, childish. "I probably should though, so I can stop being useless." He murmured, his voice muffled by the pillow he was speaking into.

She petted the top of his head, not quite sure why she was doing that except that it seemed to be the most comfort she could give right now, "I know." She didn't want to accept it either, but she recently realized that that they had no closure - what if they ended up waiting forever?
"Do you want to find out for sure?" She asked, "We could try to get pod duty, see if they take note of the vital signs of the candidates, try to find Dean... Try to see if his pod is still working." That would give them the closure they need, even if a big part of her did not want to ever accept that her friend could be gone forever... Gone in a place like this.
"You know, Germ," She yawned, getting off of him to lie down beside him instead, her hands tucked behind her head, "I think you actually did some good during the last mission, even if you need to learn how to keep your mouth shut in front of the enemy."

"No." He said honestly. He didn't want to find out for sure. Sure it'd be nice to see if Dean was at least still alive so he would have some idea if this waiting and wondering was worth it...but if they got there, and the pod wasn't working? Worse, if Dean's body was gone? He didn't know how he'd react then. He became a Hunter knowing that his entire past would be left behind, but Dean had stepped up to try and be a Hunter as well; he was a sibling who doubled as a comrade, who could very well have died before getting a chance on the battlefield.
"But...probably should." He grumped against the pillow, not willing to admit that he did in fact like the head pats she was giving him out of sympathy. Her weight moved off of him and a golden eye turned enough to look at her beside him, finding himself grinning into the pillow.
"Yeeeeeeah I know that was stupid." He still felt bad, but it wasn't like he could turn back time. "I don't think I did much other than stupid, though." It was hard to admit but admit he did; he wasn't sure if that was his own shortcoming, or if it was just due to his being distracted over his brother. Ariane would find the tables turned with his weight on her, but he only laid on her enough to wrap his arms around her and to use her chest as a pillow. Clearly, she had no choice in the matter, but at least he wasn't actively trying to feel her up?
"How're you doing, by the way?" Since he had taken her to the infirmary after the incident, he hadn't seen her; it was enough time to let his burns heal and most of them were scabbed and peeling off, but her? He had no idea what happened to her, only that she was hurt something bad.

"You sure?" She asked, turning her head to look at Jeremy, an eyebrow raised; they could easily get pod duty... And this would answer his questions for sure, as scary as it was... After all, Dean might be a good childhood friend of hers, but he was Jeremy's brother. If it scared her to think of Dean as 'dead', she could only imagine how much worse it was for Jeremy.
Perhaps that was why she didn't immediately push him off of her, just tilted her head up enough to roll her eyes and shoot him a look that said 'What, really?!' before flopping her head back down to rest against her hands.
"Well, stupid is your specialty," She informed him, definitely teasing a little now as she laughed, "You should try the obstacle courses some time. Hell, I'll run them with you if you like... We have more than enough free time on our hands." Besides, it was training and she could always use more training.
"I hate how burns itch when they heal," She visibly twitched, "And these burns... I never knew flames could feel hot and cold at the same time. HA, at least I didn't get a scar... And I see that your pretty face was untouched as well." She grinned, tugging gently on his hair, since he seemed so insistent on using her chest as a pillow - she had to admit that she would love to use her own chest as a pillow though.
'Shut up.'

"No." Jeremy said again, this time with his face buried into her (in his opinion) perfect breasts. He didn't see the look she gave him because he honestly had no intention of trying to spot it; his attention was elsewhere, off in his own head and not even near her and her body.
"Sounds good to me. Might as well get some practice in and whatnot." He did get a chuckle out of stupidity being his specialty; it was true, definitely true, and he would have to fix that if he stood any chance of staying here and staying alive.
"They itch like a biiiiiiitch." Jeremy whined into her chest. "And my face did get burned, it just healed faster. Because I'm awesome." When she played with his hair she might have noticed it was a little shorter; still shaggy, just shorter. Some of it was burned and had to be cut, SO SAD. "Owwwwww don't be mean." He grumped at her, lifting his head a little to avoid feeling all the hair pulling.

"Well, we're still going," She replied, pausing momentarily; she wasn't being stubborn this time. This was something they would have to face sooner or later - if he was alive, then good, they would continue to wait. If not...? Well, they would be crushed but at least there would be closure rather than a lifetime of waiting.
"You need it," She laughed, grinning at her friend as she pinched his cheek when he looked up, "You seem to have put on some weight... Been moping around a lot lately?" Releasing him, she ruffled his hair, "At least you look more like a guy now... Wasn't sure where you were going with your previously long hair."
At least he didn't go to extremes like two certain people she knew.
"Awww, little Jeremy needs to be showed some tender loving care, I see," She mused, although she did remove her arms from under her head to wrap around him. She stayed silent for a moment before speaking again, "I miss Dean too."

"I know." Jeremy sighed. Of course they were going. No matter what he said or how he said it, he wanted to go. This uncertainty was killing him; he just had to know what was going on so he could get over it. That was best, no matter how much it hurt or how much anxiety was threatening to overtake him.
"Ow. I've actually lost weight." Jeremy grumbled into her breasts. "You just never let me get on top of you for you to notice." Oh yes, he was mature and suave! Best of both worlds! He was also a liar, considering he'd done this before; but he really had lost some weight from all the physical work. "It's not that much shorter." He grumbled again, coming to his own defense out of pure bratitude.
"I do. You should love me." He chuckled, but it was a short lived one as Ariane's arms went around him, hugging him. For the first time in a while he felt tears sting his eyes, but he hastily blinked them away.
"Yeah..." Was all he could dare to say, not wanting his voice to betray his emotions any further.

"You have?" She gasped, sounding scandalized before holding him closer; hey, at least she was trying to be a good friend despite how this was making her feel rather weird! She wasn't good at this... Cuddling and comforting thing, although she was very aware that Jeremy was basically being shoved against her chest. She laughed, raising an eye brow at him, "Germ, I love you but I'm not going to love you."
She moved a hand from his back to ruffle his hair, "Heh, maybe if you stopped being lazy and actually work harder to get yourself promoted, I'll love you a little more." She didn't want him to remain a trainee forever; he didn't have to be top dog, but she didn't want him to be stuck at the bottom of the food chain...
"Let's go to the pod room tomorrow morning," She muttered before yawning, "I'm sleeping here tonight~"
