The slight wind that had started up, dislodging much of the sand that was keeping her warm and that woke her up. It seemed Desher still hadn't returned from the hunt and she was getting lonely, then again she could barely tell what was going on because of the shifting sands. The nightfall was a welcomed relief from the terrible hot sun that threatened her for those many days. The fact she had survived was amazing enough.

It was the whooshing sort of sound above the wind that made her head raise and ears swivel to listen. That was the same sound she learned to recognize as someone padding through the sand.

"Desher?" She called out on a dry throat. "Is that you?" Trying to shield her face from the sand. Even if she was blind the irritation of sand in ones eyes was still a bother and she had gotten some in already, more would just be downright annoying.

The hunt had taken longer than the male had anticipated. Ironically he had found plenty of hares, with a couple even running almost under his nose. Desher-bik had been forced to go further than he had originally wanted to find the large game to feed them both. He felt that he had to give a good offering to the lioness. It was stupid really. Logically he should have caught the hares, eaten a couple himself and taken the rest back to her. She could have all she wanted to eat soon as she was in the priestess' care.

Instead, the sandy male found himself dragging a large carcass through the sands. Twice he had to stop and catch his breath. This was further than he wanted to reasonably carry something again. He cursed his foolishness under his breath. The lioness' scent on the wind told him, he was finally getting close. A voice floated across the wind, calling his name. Desher gave a grin and set the carcass down to answer.

"It's Desher Hokulani. Sorry for taking so long. Is everything alright?" He picked up his burden and started the last distance to reach her. The male wondered if she'd manage to sleep at all.

The sound of Desher's voice calmed her racing heart. This was still a strange place to her, getting used to it would take some time. "Everything is alright." She replied, laying her head back down only to smell the food and get up. Her stomach snarled its response at her for going without a proper feeding. "What did you catch?" She asked, not going at the just then. He had caught it and he was male, it was time to return to her manners, so he had the first feedings.

The dark colored lioness wondered how far he had to go to catch this. She could tell he was tired and padded gently to him to give him a reassuring lick. "You eat first and then sleep. My rest was quite fulfilling but sleeping on a starving stomach makes one a bit restless."

Once they rested and their stomachs full, they could continue their journey to Desher's home. Hopefully they'd accept her, she'd feel terrible if they didn't.

Desher grinned when she responded. At least nothing had decided to take on the sleeping lioness. He settled the carcass down onto the sand and stepped back. A chuckle escaped him as she asked what he'd caught, "dinner. I can assure you its very tasty." She utterly surprised him with the lick. He purred and nuzzled her shoulder.

"No Hokulani. I insist you eat first. Once I rest a moment then I'll eat." Sleep sounded excellent too. He had been walking in the sand and heat all day. That would have to wait until he'd eaten, which was going to wait until she'd eaten.

Once they finished the meal and took their naps they were ready to begin again. Lani stuck close to Desher as they continued on.

As they drew closer and out of the more dangerous part of the desert something changed. Lani could feel life here, hear it even. "Are we here?" She asked with some definite excitement in her voice. Three, no four, days in the desert and now there was tons of life around her. How they lived here was amazing! No more than that, extraordinary! Only question now was, would they except her if she stayed. They might look down upon her because she couldn't see, therefore not able to help out. Lani put on a determined face and walked with purpose. She may be blind by she was no helpless. No one would walk all over her.

"I can feel the beauty even if I can't see it." She mused.

The remainder of the night passed quickly. Sunlight pierced into his eyes as the sun peeked over the horizon. He rolled to his feet with a groan. It took him several minutes to work the kinks out of his muscles.

Desher walked slowly and enjoyed the close quiet company of the lioness. It was almost a pity the journey would come to an end. He looked around when she spoke up then nodded, forgetting she couldn't see. "Yes. We've just entered the main area." He watched her reaction, wondering just how much she could tell about them.

A pleased purr escaped as she mentioned the beauty of it. He felt the same way about it. This was his home and he wanted nothing else. "It is very pretty, as pretty as you. It's as though you were made for it Hokulani." His ear twitched nervously.

Although her sight was fuzzy she padded towards one of the walls. Listening to the sounds of other's paws in the sand. "Who made this?" She asked curious, although she didn't pass up the compliment she did lower her head and turn in his general direction. Her ears laying flat at his comment made her giddy. "They were great crafters. Thank you Desher. But I want to know, is everywhere filled with sand or is there some solid ground somewhere?"

Despite her wanting to get used to the sand under her paws, she still wanted to be able to see. Something familiar. This was all still quite overwhelming for her. She nearly trotted back to his side, pressing herself against the warm male for protection and shielding. "They're not judging me are they?"

Desher walked beside Hokulani to be sure no one bothered her, but tried to give her her space. "The humans did. There's images of them and animals all over the walls. Yes they were. It's amazings the stuff you can se..... " He chocked off as he realized what he was about to say. Gratefully he changed subject.

"Yes. Inside the temples there are rooms with solid flat rock floors. There's also a small water source inside that stays cool no matter how hot it gets out here." He was surprised when she came back over and nuzzled up against him. Desher licked the back of her neck reassuringly. "Nope, not at all. C'mon lets you get inside. Meet the Pharaoh and the priests, then we can get you something more solid to eat."

It seemed the humans built many things. Though she had caught onto what he was going to say, but neither glared or got offended. "I may not be able to see it Desher, but you don't have to be cautious with what words you use around me." Though she was glad to change the subject and didn't want to dwell on it too long. He may have gotten offended by it even if she hadn't, however she didn't want to step on his toes in a sense.

"I'll be glad to be able to see again." She chuckled, "It takes a lot to concentrate on others in this sand, but I'll overcome it." She added and nodded her agreement to continue. To meet the Pharaoh. How was she to act, was she to bow to him or what was the protocol here. "Am I presentable?" She asked, a tad fearful of how she looked.

He coughed and ducked his head as she softly rebuked him. At least she wasn't sensitive about it and gone off yelling at him in front of everyone. It would look bad for him if the female he brought back started yelling right away, no matter the reason. "Right, thanks Hokulani." Desher decided that if she couldn't see the beautiful pieces left on the walls then he would patiently describe every one in full detail. That could wait until later though.

"I'm sure you will." At her worry he stepped closed and purred reassuringly touching her shoulder with his nose. "You couldn't be more beautiful." Desher moved ahead to lead into the temple.

"Thank you Desher." She purred. "Let's not keep them waiting shall we?" Lani grinned and licked him gently. The few days she was with him, she was falling in love. Was that possible? Was it right?
