She felt as if something was missing. JB had been busy as of late, with the birth of a new little two-legger, leaving Ai feeling completely useless for the time being. He didn’t come visit her in her stall, nor did he bring her daughter to have some bonding time. Instead, Ai was kept in her stall most of the day, only to be let out for an hour or two on a lead to get her fresh air. She wasn’t able to train in this time period either. Only one person was entrusted to do that, and that was JB himself.
However, today was Ai’s lucky day. Her stall was normally kept locked during the day, but the one who had last let her out had forgot to double check the sliding black handle, leaving the door closed, but easily able to be open from someone (or thing) on the inside. That of course meant Ai. Once the coast was clear, she pushed against the door until she felt it inching with her weight across the track. When there was a big enough gap to go through, she squeezed through it, and trotted down the stable path.
She certainly wasn’t going to spend most of the day inside again. Even if she was just about by the stables, she’d be happy.

Kuruk walked about the stall areas, the streets near, with ease. Though he felt like a newcomer, a new face, there was no vulnerability in his step. There was confidence, but also a demeanor that held respect for others within his reach, within the area. Bright eyes looked about and he felt somewhat of a loneliness, but also, a sense of freedom. K. was becoming settled in this place, thus, giving Kuruk the ability to wander on his own. She let him out freely if he wished, she wanted him to go out and see the settlement, the compound, others. It was strange, but he smiled, it was good. This was good.
Although he had not gone into the ring, the pit, many times, only once so far, he felt proud regardless of his loss. He was able to do damage, but he only needed to hone his skills. Perhaps if K. had not kept him at home for so long, he would have made a sooner appearance.
A scent came across his nose, and he stopped, nose scrunching and h turned in that direction. Female, strong, near, that's all he knew, and he was curious.

The sun’s rays were shining just enough to pierce through the leaves of a nearby tree. Taking the opportunity of the sunbeam, Ai flopped on the ground, rolling in the fresh, sweet smelling grass, soaking up the sun. It was, what some humans would call, an abnormal gesture for a fighter, but Ai could care less. She did what she could for her owner, and in her mind she deserved to have some time for just ‘herself’. Scratching her back, the once pregnant mokai lay there, feet sprawled in the air, as she watched the fluffy clouds swing by.
The wind shifted past her, bringing in a new smell to the area. It was a mokai, one she hadn’t come across in either the pit or training arenas. She guessed it was of fighter rank, for culls had a dirty smell to them, pets had the prissy smell, and pearl divers had the fishy smell. Fighters just had a normal scent in Ai’s opinion.
Not to get up from her comfy position in the sunbeam, Ai looked around, upside down, to where the male would make an appearance. Her tail beat the ground just a few times, as any company (except for the slate male) was good company until proven wrong.

Kuruk looked to the sun and squinted, he wished for shade as his back became hot as he walked. Although it felt nice against his fur. His paws felt the cool ground beneath him and sooner enough he spotted a tree in the not-so distant distance, and a mokai beneath it. His ears perked forward as he noticed, and saw the other had no fear, no anxiety. Why should she? He was no threat, he merely was out for a stroll to see new faces, see others.
His nose scrunched as he took in her scent, for one that was in such a position (belly up) it was submissive, vulnerable exposing where your vital organs were, however, this gesture told Kuruk the female was strong and confident in herself against others.
As he came closer he slowed down, eyes watching, curious, the patterns on her were so intriguing compared to his.
"Enjoying the warmth?" he asked, his tone low, inviting, but soft as well as he didn't want to disturb her if she wished not for company.

“Immensely.” Ai seemed to purr out. Taken this as a sign to turn herself over, the female did just that, rolling onto her belly, but still lying down. “Been cooped up in the stall for awhile, I just wanted to get out for a little bit.” She cooed, golden eyes gazing at the newcomer male.
She lay eyes on the other’s collar. It was a thick collar, just like her own. “You must be new around here?” She asked, though already knowing the answer. It seemed like a flux of fighters were being sent to the compound recently. Something was bound to happen in the future. Ai had seen times when the fighters had flocked to the settlement; it meant large tournaments were soon to be held. Ai couldn’t wait for her chance to be in such events.
“I’m Ai.”

Kuruk smiled, eyes holding a soft expression, "I'm glad for it then," and he took her comfort to roll over, but still be at ease, to let him know it was all right to relax as well. He sat back on his haunches and watched her. She seemed experienced, the collar round her neck, tough, most likely a reflection of her as well. He shrugged at her question, "My master, K., she's not let me out before this. I've been a companion for her since a pup, since I remember the giver - er, her fiance, as she calls him, gave me to her. She's getting stronger, as he's away on his journey though, so she's let me out for a bit, it's a nice feeling. So I understand your sentiment of not wanting to be cooped up."
At her name, he nodded, with a slight dip of his head, "Kuruk, a pleasure, Ai, to have met you in the sun," he said in his low-toned voice.

“I don’t see how you could have survived being in for so long. We are built for fighting,” she chuckled lightly. The male was taller than she was, but perhaps not as muscular. A few battles in the compound and that would definitely change that. She nodded at the story. “I’ve been out here for a while. My owner thrives on fights it seems; there will never be a time you won’t see me there.” She was rather proud of this fact. She enjoyed fighting, and JB adored the money aspect of it. It was a win-win situation for the both of them.
Rising to her feet, she gave a brief smile as the other gave his name. “Kuruk. Interesting.” She repeated. “Have you been in the pits yet?” She looked over the male, not spotting any obvious signs or injuries or battle wounds. When he mentioned that she had let him out for a bit, she didn’t know if that meant for the first time or not. She would have loved to hear his battle stories however.

"It means bear, I'm told, least, that's what my human says. She likes to go on and on about it when I try to sleep," he said with a chuckle. He shifted his weight, tail curling behind him and he nodded, "Only once so far, but again very soon." He had to admit, teh first time hadn't gone so well, but it was a learning experience, and he promised himself he would do better next time.
"I've only ever trained at home, myself, since I've not been able to meet others, go out, it's been hard. I didn't win, but the loss was stll valueable, I learned, and I'll do better next time. I want to win, when I fight, I feel alive."
This female was right, they were made to fight, and he felt so alive when he fought.
"I take it you've been in several times, yea?"

“I couldn’t tell you what my name means. I think my owner just had no name in mind, so he kept referring to me as Ai.” She shrugged a bit. Her name actually meant love, but she had never heard JB personally introduce her with that meaning. If he had, then it was when she was a young puppy.
“How did you like it? How did you do?” Ai was always interested in hearing on just how well (or not so well) others did in the pit. It made her prep more for battle, just in case she would ever be pitted against them someday.
When he answered her, she just gave a brief nod. “Ah.”
“I have, indeed.” She paused a moment, before continuing. “Haven’t lost a fight yet.” She was rather proud about that too. She had given her owner a reason to put her in the pits more often, and she had proved herself every time.
“Maybe one day I could give you some pointers,” she shrugged again; she wasn’t against helping others, as it meant she would get to know their training styles more in depth, and be better prepared for future combats. “That is, if your owner let you out more often. She should meet my master sometime.”

"I bet it means something, Kuruk said simply, "even if you don't know it yet," a smile played on his maw, just slightly, but not fully. The female, when he spoke of his fight, even if not, seemed interested in knowing his results, perhaps, she was fishing. Whether she was or wasn't, he wouldn't refuse pointers from anyone, he would merely be careful of showing what he wanted to be seen, and what he wanted to hide. "I'd like that. I never had a sparring partner before."
At her words, his eyes lit up, and he quirked a brow at her, "undefeated, very nice. I wouldn't put it past you with that," he said motioning to her horn, "I imagine it can do serious damage."
He didn't have anything like that, he merely used the brute force of his body weight, as his weapon of choice. But, perhaps with her pointers, that might change.

“My owner likes to train in the evening, just before the fireball in the sky goes below the buildings. Try getting your owner to bring you by one evening in the training pits. I know my master would never back away from a sparring partner as well.” She smirked.
“It has its uses. Especially when dealing with awful self centered mokai who do nothing but put others down and threaten your unborn children.” She snarled, remembering when she had impaled Imnir in her one battle with him. Oh, that felt good.
She looked at the sun beginning to wane and sighed. “Best be going before the stable-hands realize I am gone. Maybe I’ll see you around, Kuruk? In the pits?” She asked, turning away from the mokai after a moment.

Kuruk nodded to her, and as she seemed to be ready to get going, he stood with her. Small gestures he learned while being with K., being her protector, her best friend. "I'll do that, I hope your master isn't too forward though, my master, she has been a little wary since her male went on a journey...he's not come back yet. She is afraid for him but doesn't say it, I can see it in her eyes though," he said, thinking of K.'s sad expression in the early part of the dawn hours."
At Ai's mention of grueling mokai, Kuruk frowned, "Are there many mokai like that?" he hoped not, "I'd think there would be a bit more honor in it between fighters," that was his view at least.
"I will see you, soon I hope, in the pits," he said with a smile and a nod, he'd like that.
He'd like it a lot.

“He…well…I can’t really describe him. She’d have to meet him to get the gist of how he is?” She offered. JB could be a conundrum. She remembered when he had met Dorian, Erebus’ owner, and was rather standoffish, but proud. He was definitely a bragger of sorts too.
“I only know of one personally, but every mokai in the settlement is different. I hope that there is no more like that.” Ai would think about relinquishing her life as a fighter for the ferals if that was the case. “So far you don’t seem like that, so that’s a plus.” Ai chuckled, giving Kuruk a brief nod as she had already pivoted back to her stalls.
Maybe he would take her up on her offer. Part of her hoped he did. She rather enjoyed the company of the nicer mokais. Even if it was for training purposes, she hoped to meet the other fighters that would be flocking to the settlement soon.
