Nervousness flitted through him, rolling in his gut like an unwanted meal. He could feel the fur along his spine stick up on end in protest at the pressure that weighed down on him from above, from all those human eyes. Yet with one glance back over his shoulder he could see his young master. The boy looked like someone's poor relation in hand-me-down clothes several sizes too big, large hopeful and trusting eyes and a big but nervous grin as he waved at Colton. The young dog knew his master was having trouble standing still for the kid would often hop from one foot to the other when excited or nervous so he had to be struggling now. This was their first fight after weeks of training. The kid had rescued Colton from a larger training yard, the man who owned it had classed Colton as worthless for he had shown less promise in the training fights with his litter mates than most of the others. He had nearly been made a cull, but thankfully a young lad had seen him skulking around in his pen and begged the trainer to sell him. The pair had formed a strong bond instantly and Colton loved his young master desperately. They barely had enough food to rent a room int he town, and sometimes skipped breakfast and lunch, saving their coin for the evening. But they were happy, curled up together for warmth, playing together and getting chased round the town together after stealing scraps from some restaurant or other. He was determined to put on a good show tonight his young master.

As he walked forwards he spotted his opponent and felt his muscles tremble. The other male was clearly an experienced fighter, with an impressive set of horns and a thick chain where Colton's own collar sat. He was impressive and just a tad bit intimidating. Suddenly his thoughts scattered as, without warning, the other male charged. Giving a little yip of surprise, Colton darted tot he side, self preservation foremost in his mind before he realised this was a fight and his young master was watching. If they wanted to eat tonight, he had to try and win! As the other canine shot past, Colton spun round on his paws and swiped at the dark blur of fur, eyes closed tight, preying he scored a hit.

Colton felt the graze of fangs, his heart beat speeding up to match. His own blow glanced off, certainly not something to worry the other fighter. Scrambling around the ring in an attempt to avoid the other male's attack, he knew he was woefully unequipped against this particular fighter, and he suspected, most of them he would meet in the ring. Still, he tried to watch the way the older fighter moved, hoping to learn for the ext time he fought a battle... so long as he first survived this one.

Lashing out even as he scrambled backwards, he flattened his ears to his head but had no spare concentration with which to reply.

Colton squeaked as the larger male shot towards him. Blue eyes widened as he desperately scrambled back and out of the way. He knew there was no way he would survive meeting this fighter head-on. His only hope lay in his speed and agility. Darting away from those flashing claws he raced round the pen, full tail streaming out behind him. Spinning round he darted right across the ring, desperatly trying to get in a hit on the other male's unprotected side.

Oh god oh god-ohgodohgodohgod....

He could feel the claws raking through his fur and even the sharp p***k of fang when the other male got too close. Colton knew he was spending most of his time running away, but only an idiot would face an opponent with brute strength when they knew for a fact the other was far stronger.

He did manage to get a few hits himself, though they were glancing blows at best. His lighter, nimble frame kept him out of the range of Imnir's worst attacks. The sudden change of direction startled the younger fighter and he was forced to throw himself to the side to avoid the angry male's claws once again, his own back feet lashed out at the other fighter as he went tumbling across the ring.

Fear and panic had half-taken over the smaller mokai, but he was a fighter nd there was a purpose behind his apparent fleeing. Yet suddenly the larger male was on him, trapping him on his back, belly to the sky. Ears pinned back he went totally still, panting harshly from the mad pace of the fight. Knowing he was beaten and soundly at that, the youngster suddenly went limp with a sigh of relief.

Well... at least he had survived his first fight.. that was a pretty good start he figured. He could stay around and protect his young master for a while longer at the least.

Colton didn't make a sound when the other male cuffed him, though it made his ears ring for a moment. By the time he had pulled himself to his paws, Imnir was almost out of the ring. Bu the younger turned round anyway and called out. "Thank you for the fight!" He was thankful too, he had learned a lot this time around, and knew now that his strength would not be brute force, but speed and agility.. strike hard and fast and then get out of his opponants way... Smiling to himself he shook the dust from his coat and trotted across the ring to where his young master stood, hopping excitedly from foot to foot with a huge grin on his face.

"Well done Colton! You did so well, I am so proud of you!" The boy bent and scooped up the young mokai into his arms and hugged him tightly. Colton wiggled, laughing, and gave his owner a wet slobbery lick on the cheek. Yes, next time he would do better, he was sure of it.
