Benji and Lark hadn't been at the Academy for three days yet and the ghoul had locked herself up in her room good and tight. Lucky for Ben, she hadn't desummoned him and as such he was feeling pretty free and frisky, able to do whatever he liked while Lark was being ten kinds of cranky in her dorm. Unlucky for Ben, she'd locked him out of her room and so he'd been forced to sleep outside the door for the past two nights. It wasn't pleasant, to say the least, but Ben didn't let it bugger him.
Ben was very curious by nature, and so at the first opportunity he'd taken his leave of the stuffy dorms and had gone walkabout. There was so much to see 'round the school grounds, and Benji wanted to see everything that he could see. He'd gotten a fair n** of strange looks here and there, but Ben didn't let it bugger him. He wasn't the type of buck to tell another to rock off, and if he was lucky, maybe he could even find a new friend for Lark.
That would be the bee's knees, too right.

Savior stopped her walking and looked down at her hands, her eyebrows pressing down in a sad expression. Her sheet, the precious gift from West, was all but in tatters. Her rough skin, despite being covered with burns, had started to whittle away at the thin cloth like a rasp at a piece of paper; her constant dragging it around as well did nothing to help prevent that.
So now she was wandering aimlessly around the campus grounds, carrying the sheet in her arms like she was mourning a beloved. She was even making a really weird sound, though the sound stopped and turned into a curious click the moment she spotted something...strange. something.....inhuman. Something...
....AMAZING.
"YOUSE. YOUSE." It took her like six seconds to cover the distance between them, and Savior was then at the side of this new creature. "WHUT YOUSE."

Ben blinked, rocking back to rest on his muscled tail. It was more of a 'oh my god this blighter is right in my face' gesture. He blinked a few more times, one clawed paw coming up to scratch at the side of his face.
"G'day?" It was more of a question than it was a greeting, and Ben had no idea what the thing was saying. "The name's Ben, and ahh. Good to meet'cha?"
He really hadn't expected to run into anything like this so soon after leaving the Reaper dorms. Maybe a nice werewolf-type or a... a ghost or maybe even some sorta undead, but this... well, this was something special.
"Whut-youse? Is that yer name, then?"

Savior was circling the creature, her hands dropping the sheet like it was some kind of yesterday's new item, and she tapped her fingers against her mask with excitement and thought. She was about to reach out and touch it when it spoke, forcing the Marrowstripe to jump backwards and land on her hands and feet. She scurried forward a bit and grabbed the sheet, tucking it under her arm, though the moment of surprise quickly passed and she stood back up.
ANIMAL THINGS COULD TALK WHO KNEW? CERTAINLY NOT SAVIOR and that fact downright delighted her. It made her even happier to know that this thing was called a 'Ben' and it was curious enough to try and know about her too.
"Name? Savior." Savior leaned over towards Ben, her eyes wide open as she glanced him up and down. He didn't smell like any of the other students....nor did he really smell right period. There was something off about him, maybe the fact he was a kangaroo and not vaguely humanoid in shape, but Savior dismissed that since it was easy to do for her and she did it often. "Wut youse." Now came the time for touching, as her hand reached over and a finger poked the 'roo in the shoulder. It was alive, clearly, and since she could stand to be near it obviously not an undead or so to be dead.
Figuring things out was hard.

Ben stared for a long time. He gave a dirty look to the finger that dared venture forth to poke into his shoulder.
"Bit touchy-feely then, ain'tcha?" Ben brushed at his shoulder with a clawed paw, shuffling to the side a bit. He wasn't sure what she meant by the wutyouse. He kept repeating the word in his head -- maybe it would make more sense if he tried to sound it out.
"Wut youse. Wut yous. What youse. What you." He scowled.
"Whattya mean, what am I?" He bared his teeth at her, bringing himself to stand upright -- looking entirely too ridiculous in the process -- before crossing his arms over his chest.
"I'm a damned kangaroo. What are YOU?" He sounded much too offended.

"Marrowstripe." Duh. If the 'kangaroo' was trying to look intimidating to Savior it wasn't working and in fact a few lights should have been going off in his own head. Before him stood a naked ghoul covered in half-healing burns, clutching only a tattered bed sheet. She spoke limited language and had a very poor grasp of personal space and touching.
Who was the one to be more afraid of, hmm? Savior certainly wasn't impressed and her actions of tapping her nails on her mask demonstrated her mood as such. She'd never heard of a 'damned' anything before, let along a kangaroo, so this was all new territory to her and she sought to figure it out. Maybe West and Holly would praise her if she could bring back new information to them. "Not knos 'roos. Ben."
Translation? I have never heard of a Kangaroo, Ben.

Ben grunted. Loudly.
"Yer a dag drongo, kid. Got a few 'roos loose in the top paddock, then? Not too bright, are ya?" It was obvious (to anyone smart enough to realize) that Ben was having a grand old time tossing out degrading comments. "Never heard of a roo, bah."
Ben leaned back on his tail and lifted one massive foot before slamming it back down on the ground with a hearty thud.
"Ben? BEN??!"
One large ear swiveled 'round when he heard Lark's familiar voice calling out to him, and he turned in time to catch her flattened palm against the back of his ear.
"Awwcchh, dammit Lark, that hurt!"
Lark turned an apologetic look to the uh.. naked and burned up figure that Ben had been speaking to.
"'ey mate, so sorry for my roo here. He ain't too wise, too right." She shot him a dirty look as if to say 'you're gonna GET IT'.

"Slow down." Out of the twenty or so words spoken, Savior understood like...four, and even then they were out of context so she didn't quite grasp the situation she was in. Clearly she was being mocked, his physical actions stated as such, and the hairs on the back of Savior's neck began to bristle. She wasn't getting up nor was she thinking of getting physically aggressive - she was just simply growing more aware of his motives. The stomp her provided did irk her somewhat, her stance shifting every so slightly, but before she could even think of what to do someone else was approaching. Savior backed down and backed up, her eyes wide again as she took in this new stranger. Shey seemed to be...apologizing?
"S'okay. Not hurt by Savior s'okay." Savior clacked her fingers on her mask again and pulled the sheet about her body, a sudden breezing causing her to shiver. Had she not been burned the cold wouldn't have bothered her nearly as much, though since her time in that shocking cold room she'd been all but useless against it. That is why she loved her sheet very much and it had to have loved her back or else it wouldn't be in this state. "Wut youse. Roo toos."

Lark slowly sent Ben a sideways glance. Ben shrugged while rubbing his tender ear before turning to send Savior a look of obvious hostility.
"Not the full quid," the boomer mumbled under his breath, his eyes never leaving Savior's sheet-covered form. The words earned him an elbow-dig from Lark. He held the sore spot with one paw while the other rubbed his sore ear.
"Little bugger ain't never seen a boomer before," he grunted, offended. "Now it wants to know what you are, Lark, and what a roo is too." It almost disgusted him that he was able to vaguely understand what Savior was saying when Lark had zero clue what was going on.
"Ahh, right then. I'm Lark. New to school, I'ma reaper. This guy here is my familiar, Ben. He's a bit of a wuss, yeah? Left m'room when I was gettin' settled, decided to go walkabout without me."
Ben glared at Lark. Oh, how he glared.

"Reep hers. Familyare. Ugh, okay." Savior shrugged her shoulders at the introduction and the explanation, probably not taking in all of it at once anyway. The words sounded weird in her mouth and in her ears, enough that she repeated them at least twice more, and another shrug ended that whole bit of effort. By this time tomorrow, after falling asleep, she wouldn't know either of them. She also wouldn't know West or Holly or Levi, but that was beside the point.
"Savior, Lark. Marrowstripe." She did know to at least repeat what she'd already said before, since it seemed to be the common thing to do. People would want your name and what you were, and Savior got asked that quite a bit. Was it because no one had ever seen a Marrowstripe before? It would have been a good thing if they hadn't, since another one being hear meant she would need to hunt it down and kill it. There could be only one after all.
And now that Savior had spoken and wasn't feeling cold anymore, she dropped her sheet and started circling the pair again. She poked at Ben once more, then at Lark. Were they siblings? She didn't know what a familiar was so it made no sense.

Lark used her thumb to push her hat back a bit, green eyes bright on Savior. She crossed her arms over her chest. Maybe the marrowstripe would need more of an explanation? Lark lifted one hand to tap against her lips.
"Yeah, famliar. Like.. grim reaper. 'cept ... Ben is m'weapon."
Yeah, right. Ben was no weapon. The familiar cast her a dark look, thumping his foot on the ground again. Straight up 'round the twist this one.
"That make sense?"
Probably not.

"Nope." Well at least Savior was honest and she shrugged her shoulders to demonstrate her level of understanding. She was doing her best to understand, she really was, but some things were just to advanced for her to grasp just yet. She'd met only one other reaper before and had never seen a weapon, so to think that a living thing could be a weapon was just beyond her. "Benroo is weapon, okay." Savior wasn't going to think past that.
Marrowstripes, as a race entirely, didn't really use weapons unless they really needed it - and even then Savior probably didn't know to call the object she toted around a 'weapon'. She preferred to use her claws and her teeth, both were quite deadly, so having a weapon seemed like overkill. "Lark. Laaaark."

"That's right, then, the bee's knees right there, Savior." Lark looked pleased that the marrowstripe had repeated her name. "And too right, Ben's ... a weapon." That tasted sour on her tongue. No, Ben wasn't a weapon and this was the reason she was here, but Lark didn't think that Savior would really understand all that.
Ben didn't seem to have any such issue.
"No, y'dill. I ain't no dud of a weapon, hear? I'ma damned familiar, and if ya can't understand..." Ben's lip twitched in annoyance.

"Nope." Savior repeated the word again, her brows pressing themselves down in annoyance. She didn't understand why Benroo was suddenly getting so hostile in his words and posture (Savior could understand basic body signs and tones), but at least this Lark person seemed somewhat decent. There was no need for her to act on anything so long as Lark was there, but if that Benroo decided to do something she would act and act hard.
In fact, her posture suggested such a thing as she shifted from the more relaxed position she'd been in to one where her hands were at her side. One of her fingers twitched, the knuckle cracking loudly, but she made no other efforts to move. Instead she merely stood there and shivered, her naked frame still quite burned and her lack of clothing ....apparent. She did have her sheet, but reaching down to get said sheet left her vulnerable for attack should the Benroo go for it.
" . . . . klose." It just so happened that her brain clicked that she probably did need to put on clothes. Being naked wasn't so bad, but she had gotten used to wearing clothes every now and then.

Lark cleared her throat, rocking back on her heels.
"Ehhh, right, then. So ahh, Savior? Ya do realize yer in the nuddy, then?" Lark peered around as if a set of clothes would magically appear. Maybe it was normal for the ghoul to wander about stark naked, and Lark didn't want to offend if that did happen to be the case.
"She has some sorta sheet, Lark," Ben huffed under his breath, gesturing at the marrowstripe. "I'unna if she actually wears clothes, treat."
Lark waved her hand in a 'shut up, Ben' gesture, her eyes never leaving Savior.
"D'ya need help going on home, then, mate? I'd be happy to walk ya to yer dorm."
