Herryk was sitting outside the undead dorms, his back against a claw-like tree. Legs stretched outward, and next to his knees rested a small yet incredibly worn-out knapsack. The draugr was intently reading a book that he clutched in his hands. His face was scrunched up with utter concentration, his lips moving as he read each word.
Love Poems and You: Writing Your Way Into Her Heart.
Herryk had gotten the idea from Lattice during their first meeting. They'd visited Hoarders where Lattice had purchased her haiku book. Herryk had seen the book there and thought it foolish. After meeting Freya, though.. well, never let it be said that Herryk didn't try his very best to be the greatest boilfriend he could be.
So focused on the book was Herryk that it would be highly unlikely he'd notice any passers-by unless they happened to call out to him.

She was being chased, oh Jack she was being chased. How long had it been since Chuppi had found herself in a full out run with someone at her heels? Too long it seemed, as she was out of shape, and soon the ghoul found herself on all fours running like her life depended on it. Being on fours certainly gave her more of an advantage than being on two legs, she was used to running on four as needed, and as she streaked past several of the dorms she let out a loud wail.
"AAAAAYUUUUDAAAAAMEEEEE POOOORRR FAAAVVVOOOORRRR!!!!!!"
The minipets that were chasing her didn't look like they'd give up any on her at all and Chuppi circled a tree before digging her nails into the trunk, pulling herself out of their reach. She was safe, for now, but she was also stuck. " . . . . .uweh."

Herryk wasn't sure what the sound was until he saw the little green streak whip in front of him only to wildly careen up the tree he'd been leisurely using as a backrest. The shape was vaguely familiar, but Herryk didn't take the time needed to figure out who it was. He was more concerned with the minipets that had been terrorizing the tree-climber.
Using his book as a weapon of sorts, Herryk rose to his feet and shooed the critters away. It wasn't until they'd retreated a safe distance from the tree that Herryk turned around and peered up into the branches.
"...Little Chuppi-bug?" Yes, that was Chuppi up in the tree, and Herryk's features immediately softened.
"Why was Chuppi being chased? Does little bug need help down?" He was very concerned, and without waiting for an answer Herryk held out his arms.

Chuppi didn't answer right away, her face was pressed against the tree as hard as she possibly could squeeze it. The pain of the bark against her skin was easily ignored by the pounding of her heart and she was softly sobbing as tears rolled down her cheeks. She was going to die up here of starvation, she knew this to be true, but then -
Little Chuppi-bug
Only one person called her that, and the monster looked down to see the large frame of an undead beneath her. It was as she though, Herryk, and she pulled her face away from the tree to show off how tear and snot streaked it was. She'd been running so well, so hard, that all her adrenaline had left her body. "Herryk....." She sniffed and rubbed her face, letting go of the trunk and practically falling into Herryk's arms. It was a huge act of trust (or else a huge accident) and the Chupacabra buried her face against his chest. "So scared! I was so scared!"

And that was how Herryk's heart broke into a million pieces. There was something about little bug that just made him want to protect her forever and ever. If he'd had younger siblings, this is how it would feel when one of them skinned their knee or took a tumble. But Herryk didn't have any younger siblings. No, Herryk had a little bug, and he was ready to smash some minipets into smithereens.
"Ohhh, little Chuppi," he patted her back as she curled up against his chest in fear. "Should Herryk kill them?" He would. He would kill all of them.
"Why were they chasing little bug?"

"Uwsh, uweh." Her body shook in his arms as Chuppi continued to sniffle and sob, her small hands wiping away the big tears that dropped from her eyes. It was hard for her to find the words to speak since she was too busy trying not to actually wail and injure her friend to the point of vomiting. It'd been a while since she actually had a good scream, but that was for another day. It later occurred to her that she could have screamed and gotten rid of her pursuers, but that was also hindsight.
The mentioning of killing them stilled her tears enough for the monster to shake her head, indicating she didn't wish for them to be harmed. It was going to be hard for her to even explain why she was being chased but maybe that would be best for another day? At the moment she was simply happy that they were gone, that she was being hugged, and that someone was patting her back. "I....accidentally stepped on one of the babies and it got hurt. I was picking it up to move it to get help and they thought I was attacking it."
And for once, that was the truth. She wasn't out on the hunt, she'd been learning to control her desire to eat (somewhat, mostly not working), but the minipets weren't so forgiving.

"Minipets are very stupid, Chuppi, except for foxfires." He would never believe otherwise, either, because Herryk thought that foxfires were the most brilliant and amazing minipets ever. "If little bug is sure that she does not want Herryk to crush them, well... Herryk will leave them alone."
He didn't sound too pleased by that, though.
"Now," he grunted, setting the distressed little monster on the ground, "no more tears, little bug. Herryk does not like these tears." He nodded his head and went to sit back down where he'd been before rescuing Chuppi. Waving the book in his hand, Herryk grunted.
"Poetry is also stupid, Chuppi."

Chuppi continued to wipe at her face as she was set down, though her tears had stopped and she was significantly calmer than she had been. Hearing Herryk take her side (and declare his love of firefoxes) had eased her nerves considerably. She was all but back to being happy by the time the giant mentioned poetry.
"Poetry? I like poetry a lot, it lets you know how someone is feeling, even if you've never met them or you don't know what's going on. A poem is an expression."

"Herryk thinks that Chuppi would like his friend Lattice, if they have not already met. Lattice tried to tell Herryk about haiku poems." He shook his head. "Herryk bought this book because he would like to write a poem for his ghoulfriend but... Herryk does not know if she wants a poem about everlasting passion and love neverending." He looked a little sick to his stomach about the very thought of reading a poem like that to Freya.
"What is Chuppi's favorite poem?" A thoughtful expression came over his face. "Perhaps Chuppi would like to help Herryk write a few warm-up poems before he starts his love poem present for Freya?"

"Oh, Herryk has a ghoulfriend named Freya? That's so sweet!" There was no touch of sarcasm in Chuppi's voice, nor of wheedling mockery, and she waddled over to the drugar's side before taking a seat in the grass. "And I probably would like Lattice? I try to like all people." She wiggled down in the grass until she was comfortable, her quills poking into the dirt and helping keep her upright. It was impossible for her to even lean back, she'd simply stay stuck, but every now and then she liked to use her quills as a prop.
"What poem do I like best? Um...un momento, por favor." She placed a hand to her lips as she tried to think. There were many poems she liked so it was hard to choose but eventually she settled on one. "Oh, here. Let me say it out loud, or at least a bit of it."
Yes, when this flesh and heart shall fail, And mortal life shall cease; I shall possess, within the veil, A life of joy and peace
No one could ever say that the Chupacabra didn't take life seriously despite being so young and small. "And yes, would love to help you! Poems are meant to share for everyone."

Herryk nodded giddily at the mention of Freya. It was obvious by the brightening of his face that he could talk about the valkyrie for hours, but when Chuppi continued by reciting a poem, Herryk gave pause.
The pause continued for a long time after Chuppi had finished her poem.
"Well. That is a poem," Herryk said thoughtfully, tapping his chin. He was silent a moment longer as he clutched the pink-colored hardback book to his chest. The only sound he made was a nervous throat-clearing before he opened the book to the very front page.
"Herryk has ahh.. written a little." He glanced at Chuppi. "Would little bug like to hear? Maybe give some ideas? It is ahh.. Herryk's first poem ever."

"I have not remembered all of the poem, just that part for now. It's hard to remember things all in English, but I keep trying." Later that night she'd go back in and read the book again, to make sure she knew all of it by heart. Then she'd be able to tell Herryk again the whole thing. He'd seemed impressed, Chuppi liked that, and she blinked a bit as he went on to talk.
"Si! Of course, please tell me your poem." Chuppi moved and settled herself closer to Herryk, her eyes wide and her ears ready to hear his poem. She'd never heard poetry written by a fellow student before and so having to hear someone write love poetry was amazing. "And of course will help with ideas, but I think you'll be able to do them on your own well."
Chuppi had someone she liked, but she'd never thought of writing poetry about it. Perhaps it wasn't in her to do something so embarrassing?

Herryk offered a smile to Chuppi. She was so small and sweet. Maybe if he'd had a younger sister, she would've been like little bug. Herryk liked that thought.
"Okay, little bug, but no laughing. This is the first poem that Herryk has ever written. He is.. not so good at writing."
The draugr cleared his throat.
"This is called FREYA.
Freya is so pretty with her eyes and hair Freya is so sweet and she has skin so fair
When Freya smiles Herryk likes it
...and that is all Herryk has so far. It has taken three days to write this." He shook his head. "Poetry is hard."

"I promise not to laugh." Chuppi always kept her promises, so Herryk didn't need to worry about a single thing. Instead of laughing she merely closed her eyes to listen, her head moving slightly to each word as she took it in. She liked how the words rhymed, poetry that had rhyming always made her happy, and when the poem suddenly ended she frowned with anticipation. "That is all? You're doing so good, I really like it!"
He did want her help, right? He had asked for it and Chuppi tapped her fingers together as she thought. There was a good way for her to give him advice, surely, and she ran a list of words about people looking nice through her mind. "You're trying to make everything rhyme, right? It's hard to rhyme a word like it, so maybe re-write that part? Such as. . . ."
When Freya smiles It is so bright Herryk enjoys it His heart is light
"Does that sounds okay? It was easier to rhyme at least, but my English is limited."

"Oh little bug, that is a wonderful finish to Herryk's terrible poem." The draugr shook his head, "Herryk never thought that writing a poem would be so difficult. He hopes to be able to present this poem to Freya when they are away on a trip, and so Herryk appreciates this help, little bug." He truly did.
Nabbing the pen that had been resting on the ground next to the book, Herryk painstakingly wrote Chuppi's suggestion down.
"Herryk owes little bug a kindness. When Herryk returns, he will take little bug to lunch somewhere?" He wasn't sure what Chuppi liked to eat but it didn't matter. She could pick and he would pay. It was only the right thing to do.
"When Herryk and Chuppi were at the sewing ... thing ... Herryk did not get to learn much about Chuppi. Where does Chuppi live? Which dorm?"
