Bix was antsy. Bored and antsy. He'd ready every book in his room a thousand times. He'd gone running. He'd hung with his friends here and there but he had been avoiding using his weapon and after The Chill had worn off he spent a good amount of time sleeping and enjoying blankets.

But now those things seemed old hat and he was looking to do some more. He'd written down all the info about duties and sentry positions and places where he could practice. He was a little interested in minipet feeding or watching the pods but he didn't exactly know who to ask.

Caelius didn't seem to be an option right now so Bix headed for what he thought was the sciencey sort of wing. Why did he think that? He saw a few rooms that looked like his high school science classrooms. Dr. H was sure to be around the sciencey places and as much as he freaked Bix out, he was the only authority figure he knew of.

Don't let him touch me.
I'm not even going to take you out.
Never trust a man who doesn't show his facccceeeee.
Maybe we can sneak a peek at his face!

Bix popped his head in the door of each room. If he saw people he would pop back out before they saw him. It was one of these doors in which he pushed open, popped in his head and saw the back of a blonde head.

A ladies head. Here's to hoping she's of legal age.

"Oh.. do you know where Dr. H is?" He swaggered in a bit, trying to act cool and hoping this girl didn't turn around and look hideous. He flipped his braid around his shoulders and leaned slightly on the door frame.

The chain spun and revealed a woman that didn't look hideous, so much as mildly surprised. "You really want to talk to Dr. H, trainee? Really?" Well, they got some like that every once in awhile. The special kind of trainee that had a nice side of masochist, or just a dangerous attraction to science.

Then again, maybe he just hadn't spent enough time around the doctor, which should really be remedied but, "He's pretty busy now, dealing with the fallout from the last mission. If it's important, I can hunt him down for you but..." She gave a wry smile, "...it should probably be really important."

THANK GOD.

She wasn't hideous. She was also familiar.

"Hello Clariiiice..." Bix badly imitated Hannibal Lecter. She'd probably heard it a thousand times in her life. "Is it weird.. you being Clarice and he's Dr. H?" Bix tried to slide along the wall and look smooth but he sort of hit the edge of a table and ended up bouncing awkwardly to the side.

"I don't really want to talk to Dr. H." He glanced around the room, taking it in, maybe a clue as to how to succeed in conversation with the young woman in front of him. "But see us strays haven't had much communication with our superiors and I don't even know who my squad leader is sooooo..." The albino hunter shrugged.

"Just looking for something to do. What are you doing? Hanging out? Important super science?" He wiggled his brows.

The smile stayed frozen in place for several moments, and then her lips curled back just the slightest bit to reveal her teeth. Clarice looked down at her desk and began looking for her clipboard. The little joke? Consider it ignored. If you heard a soft crashing sound in the background, that was Bix's stock...

Which was now at a fairly alarming low. Clipboard found, she didn't bother looking up as she answered, "I'm doing my job...Wilkins, wasn't it? What about yourself? Do you need something to keep you busy?" And out of range, because the only thing worse than the Silence of the Lambs references was H's old endearment for her.

Bix could almost hear the clinking of bricks as an invisible wall was being built between him and the girl behind the desk. Ahh that familiar old feeling. Honestly it was a bit of a relief to know his affect on women hadn't changed very much. It wouldn't discourage Bix though. In fact when it came to women he was a bit of a masochist and the harsher they were, the better.

"Bix, thanks." Not Wilkins. Well really Wilkins was fine just so long as no one called him Ferdinand or *shudder* Ferdi. "I guess maybe I do? Some job or something. Actually do you know who the head of the Sun division is? Shouldn't I meet my superior?"

Somehow Clarice's age made him relax more around her than he would Dr. H or Caelius. He wandered in the small area he was standing in, touching things and picking them up, turning them around so he could look at them. There was another chair so he took the initiative and sat himself down.

That meant he wasn't going anywhere for the moment. Joy for her.

"Do you need any help with anything?"

She glanced up at him again, eyebrows raised. He really knew how to make himself at home, "Right then...Bix, your Fearless leader is away. They're division leaders for a reason, and that reason isn't babysitting newbies or holding their hand to the training center."

What did she need? A ******** break, that's what she needed. A bubble bath, a few drinks, and a manicure wouldn't hurt either. Baring that? A stretch of quiet time to get this done.

"You want me to put you to work?" Clarice smiled over at him, it wasn't exactly welcoming, but at least she wasn't throwing him out just yet. "Sure. You don't seem eager to get all physical, so I'll give you something easy. The top drawer in the filing cabinet behind you has the last few months worth of lab invoices. Just alphabetize them, and put aside anything that looks out of the ordinary. Can you handle that?"

"Harsh. JEEZ." He made a 'pfffffffffffft' noise. "Why is everyone so on edge around here? All I did was ask. Can't we do without the," he made yappy motions with his hands and talked in a high pitch voice, "holding hands of newbies yah yah." He shook his head. Apparently the harsh treatment worked for him though. He blushed less. "We're all grownups here. I might be new but I'm not some high schooler." He was pretty much done college when he was recruited and that was already grown up enough in his book.

Bix hopped up and moved to the drawer. He flashed her a crooked grin, his cheeks slightly pink. "You can put me to work any day, Clarice." He really needed to stop emphasizing her name like that.

Regardless of his horrible conversation he seemed to handle the papers easily. His own OCD habits came in handy and being a huge geek in school he had an easy time with the task. He deftly flipped through everything, clearing a spot on the table and making two piles. Things from the first pile were sorted alphabetically into the second pile in front of him. He was also scanning each invoice, hoping to get any information he didn't know. Like where money came from and where it went. Who did they invoice exactly? Weren't they in some bermuda triangle-like place somewhere?

"Soooooooo...." His eyes kept darting to her behind the desk. "How long have you been here? How.. err... umm.." how old were you was a bad question for girls right? "..how is it so far .. for you obviously?"

"Yup, we are indeed, super harsh. Think of it as bootcamp, but without the drill sergeant calling you a maggot, and all the crawling around in the mud." She paused, "Well, less of it anyway." Her expression relaxed slightly as she continued, "It's not about age, though. It's about earning a certain amount of respect from other hunters. You guys are all off to a pretty good start, but you also had the easiest and most successful Testing. It may not seem that way, but...to more veteran hunters? You'll have to go the extra distance to make up for what they see as a hunter who got through on easy mode." She'd been a similar situation when she was a trainee, and could sympathize, but only to a point.

The assistant sat back and gave Bix a once over, "But that's just perception, and you can turn that around easily enough through your own words and actions." So stop saying my name like that. "Personally? I find myself heartened by your skill with paperwork. So plus one intelligence to the trainee known as Bix." So stop saying my name like that.

She leaned forward a bit, and gave him a crooked sort of smile, "I've been here a good five years. And it's been pretty horrible. But at the same time rewarding in ways my previous life couldn't offer. Altogether? Pretty typical." She returned her attention back to her own paperwork. "Thanks for the help."

"It's like the worst kind of boot camp." Bix laughed. "Cause they don't yell at you or anything. It's just this snide disappointment all the time. It's like if your GRANDPARENTS ran boot camp." Bix motioned and explained his joke, despite probably not needing too. "Like every time you visited grandparents and it's like 'oh it's nice to see you.. are you gaining weight?' " He chuckled to himself and finished the stack of invoices up, sifting through to 'M'.

"The benefits of being pretty OCD." He waggled a finger and he straightened the pile up a bit. "There's a lot of organization in my life and of course being a huge nerd." He was glad in recent years that being a 'nerd' gained some level of acceptance. He never felt as bad saying it out loud.

The albino hunter then straightened the drawer he'd pulled them from, maybe a little too intently as he sorted loose things into piles and made room for the invoices. What sort of organization hurricane had she started?

"Five years? How's promotion gone for you?" He wondered what really qualified you for that sort of thing. "Not super into leadership... dabbling right now.. but I've always expected myself to do well." There was a bit of the 'high and mighty smart kid in school' coming through for a moment.

Clarice wasn't entirely sure how she felt about the grandparents comparison. Was he saying she was cranky and needlessly critical, incapable of positive reinforcement? Her eyebrows pinched together slightly, as she stared down at he notes on an improved boogey box rune array, and then quickly relaxed her expression. Did scowling make her seem more grandma-ish?

She refrained from saying anything about him getting all up in her stuff, since well...grandma. Wait, or would a grandma approve of this...was she more grandpa? Was she acting like a grumpy old man?

GHOUL.

Raeg's rather loud affirmation of her gender, startled Clarice back into a line of thought that was not entirely insecure and idiotic. "Oh promotions? Well...you get a larger room, which is nice. But other than that? You get more free reign and authority, but the counter to that is getting pigeonholed into certain areas of expertise." The little show of ego only garnered him a smirk, "Well, it's good to have a bit of confidence. Who knows? Maybe you'll replace one of the council before too long. Caelius rose up through the ranks pretty fast, maybe you will too."

"Ahh ehh.." Apparently lauding himself was one thing but receiving any sort of confidence or praise from others made the hunter get a bit stuttery and unsure of himself. Or perhaps it was because she was an attractive woman. Either way he laughed uneasily and wagged a hand at her. "Well I don't know about all that. I don't know if I am even looking for... you know.. authority of any kind."

Bix finished organizing the drawer, replacing the invoices, and now was holding himself back from organizing every drawer in the cabinet. He did manage to back away though, clenching his hands a bit as he clearly fought his OCD demon. "A bigger room sounds nice though. Honestly just getting a TV would be good.." Not like they would get any channels out here, unless there was some sort of on-premises TV station. He had a feeling they would get all reruns of 60's sidcoms or Saved By the Bell on loop for some reason.

The longer their conversation went on, the less Bix found he had to talk to about. His initial confidence seemed to melt by the second as the topics were gone through. Should he treat Clarice like an equal? Should he talk to her like a friend?

You are thinking too much.
Shut up.
Jusssst saying.

"Ummm so.." He'd barely known this hunter for five minutes and so he suddenly found himself devoid of things to ask. Of course he could ask how old she was, and what her favorite color was... but that wasn't in anyway informative and may in fact just annoy her. He wanted to maybe see if she ever socialized, hung out? But his uneasiness was obvious as he now felt uncomfortable to even plop down in the chair as he had done earlier. He instead stood behind it awkwardly.

"Need anything else?"

She rested her chin in her hand and gave him a slightly nicer smile, "I'm good. If you're really looking for something to do? Try the training courses or sparring areas, they aren't quite the same as a dangerous mission or important super science, but putting on a good show can go a long way toward getting more senior hunters to lay off on the hand holding remarks." She sighed, stretched her arms and then glanced back down at her paperwork with a small grimace, "You have a certain luxury of free time at the moment, I'd suggest enjoying it while you can."

"Thanks.. for the tips I mean." Bix smiled a bit. "Maybe I'll go buff up.." He flexed pathetically and tried to do a 'smolder' but just seemed to be squinting weirdly in the light. The albino hunter then dropped his arms and headed out the door.

In only a moment he popped his head back in and rambled very quickly, "IfyoueverwannahangoutI'minRoom114oryoucancallmeonmyphonethingBYE."

And then he was gone.
