Staying at Zac’s place likely had some very good points to it, it had real furniture for one, it had real rooms and an actual kitchen, and while it wasn’t ‘classy’ it at the very least was functional. The bed was on the small side but it still fit them both with reasonable comfort.
Reasonable though, was contingent on how bad Zac slept, he had nightmares, that much was very clear but he’d been reluctant to talk about them, as though talking about it would somehow make them more vivid and dangerous. Normally the worst that ever happened was that he shoved, or sat up rather suddenly and took most of the covers with him. Once he’d rolled out of bed, which hadn’t been so much bad as ‘loud’ and involving a great deal of cursing. Tonight though was a little more pointed, as it involved a sharp elbow jamming backwards.

Mostly, Ever chucked up the experience as 'I've had worse'. He'd prefer Zac's thrashing, or the cover-stealing, or the late night talking-to-himself to some of the exes who'd hauled him out of bed in the middle of the night and tossed him out on his a**, or slept with the TV on, or...or, well, were assholes. Zac had one up on them there, too.
The elbow to the solar plexus, though, was new and unpleasant. He'd wake up unable to breathe, doubled over himself, aching dully and wondering what the ******** had happened. It meant a long moment of panic, swimming his way up to consciousness. Add to that the fact that Zac was still thrashing --
He reached out, still groaning and sore, to wrap one arm around the younger man and pin him as best he could, sucking in deep breaths to replenish aching lungs. His voice came out scratchy and weak. "...Zac. Zac, quit it."

The grip made Zac freeze momentarily, a twist as he, half aware tried to free himself. Fortunately not lashing back so there would be no sudden impact of head to chin to compound the current injury. It was probably easy to guess what –that- nightmare had been about. He said something that was half a slurred sleep heavy protest of alarm before realizing that he was safe in the arm that pinned him. Nothing was there to rip out his star seed, break it, or steal his memories. No wings, no claws, just a rather pained and weak voice that was its own new worry sinking into a sleep-laden mind.
“Uh” He said sounding the edge of confused an apologetic. “Christ… sorry.” He said realizing that he’d probably done some damage that time. Maybe he should take up space on his couch when Ever slept over, it seemed safer and he fit on it better as far as length was concerned. “I’m sorry, are you alright? I mean, ********, will you be alright.” At least he hadn’t punched him in the kahunas. Right?

Zac's mind went to Ever's more sensitive parts -- and, to be fair, that was right along the lines of what Ever'd been thinking, too. If Zac's elbow had aimed down instead of up, or if they'd been on separate halves of the little bed instead of curled up close like that, he might easily have been protesting up an octave. As it was, he just felt like throwing up a bit, and there was naturally nothing new there.
"...uh. You got me good." He loosened his grip but only slowly, as if he expected Zac to start thrashing again once the hands were gone, once he stopped pinning the smaller man. Slowly, Ever crumpled back onto his side of the bed, rubbing at that spot. "That seemed nasty."

A hesitation, he even went so far as to curl his fingers into the sheets as though that would anchor him into the waking world. So much safer and saner than the world of dreams right now, he wondered if there was a cure for that beyond time and patience.
“Do you want some ice?” He offered grimacing at the idea of having ‘nailed him good’. He acted far less a general king in moments like this and perhaps far too much his age, maybe younger, a good nightmare could do that. He wanted to check the shadows for the Queen, as though she’d be lurking there to replay everything that he’d just imagined.
“It was, it was just stupid.” He said trying to be dismissive and crinkled his nose. Grasping at the grumpy ‘dignity’ he tried to keep. “It was the… promotion.” He said, that at least Ever would understand from what Tanzanite had told him. “But, not quite. I… mm… Well I’m glad the queen didn’t really rip your eyes out alright?” Not that that made up for a pointy elbow to the solar plexus in the least.

"...was ripping out my eyes an option?" It was impossible to tell if Ever was really thick enough that he didn't notice the implications there, or that he was deliberately ignoring them, not really wanting to consider the fact that Zac was dreaming about his potential death. The amount of worry implied in that was intimidating.
He drew in another careful breath, and then nodded, levering himself up over Zac and off the bed, limping toward the kitchen in search of water. He swayed like a drunk man, arm curled across his stomach.
In this case, ice probably wouldn't do the job, just time. But he kind of wanted that bile taste out of the back of his threat.

“I think it would have been a start.” He said trailing off to a mutter as he slid out of bed as well and curled his toes against the floor to focus and rubbed at his eyes. “I can sleep on the couch.” He said more a statement than an offer as he grabbed one of the blankets and balled it up so he’d have something to sleep under. “Sorry I nailed you, I’ll figure something out… or maybe the stupid dreams will go away on their own.” He said shuffling towards the living room and sighed as he flopped like he was boneless onto the couch. “******** ‘Queen’.” He snarled through clenched teeth. It wasn’t something he’d ever have considered saying in the past.

Running water in the kitchen, a glass filling slowly, the brief clatter of ice. Ever didn't reply for the moment, just sipped at his water and leaned against the counter, waiting for the dull ache to go away. Also the breathless edge of panic that he couldn't quite explain, that had kicked in once he realized Zac's dream was about him.
It seemed, for a few minutes there, that he was just going to crawl into the bed and let Zac be. Instead, he crept through the dark, still holding on to his cold glass of water. It was a struggle to set it down into place on the coffee table, still in reach, and to fumble his way down next to Zac.
"...why're we on the couch, now?" At least his tone was teasing. It was definitely too small for both of them.

It was defiantly one of those moments in life where he wasn’t sure how he was supposed to feel, he wanted to laugh, but part of him wanted to, well, to wrap his arms around the taller young man and just hold tight till everything else went away. He never used to dream about anything like this, but the ideas that plagued him at night. He laughed softly despite himself, a sleepy heavy sound of tired and conflict, as he didn’t want to move lest they both be deposited on the floor.
“We” he replied half a murmur... “Are on the couch because ‘we’ didn’t want to elbow you somewhere worse just in case I have another stupid dream. You though, you are on the couch I can only assume out of some kind of masochistic tendency. Or because I took the blanket you prefer.”
The laugh at the edge of his voice faded back after a moment to real worry. “I’ll cool here, I fit better anyhow, are you alright though? You looked really, I don’t know.”

"You hit me, Zac." It was teasing, distracted, just faintly amused, his own arms looping in slowly around Zac -- this time working to keep arms pinned, to stop any potential thrashing or jerking. They could just sleep nicely, now, without any of that.
"I'm a sucker to come back to you." This was more grumbled, his eyes closing and head tipping down into the cushions, crooked. Not terribly comfortable, but he'd be alright, all the same.

“Yeah, that’s what worries me.” He confessed. “On both accounts.” He gave a small laugh trailed off in a heavy tired sigh. “At least I don’t mean it.” He mumbled. Not the most comfortable position perhaps, being pinned always gave him the urge to shift, turn and roll over but he felt leaden, he wanted a good night rest with no dreams, or at least a few hours.
A moments pause as he considered how squashed they must be on the couch. “…I should relent to my ‘captor’ and return to the bed, is that something I should be getting out of this? Maybe part of why you’re sucker enough to return?”

"I don't care, it's six of one to me." But he also kept his arms there, working to prevent Zac from twisting and thrashing, to keep him calmer he hoped. Absently, Ever tipped his face into the back of Zac's neck, huffing out a warm breath against his skin. Gawky and awkward in silly boxers, he probably looked ridiculous curled around the younger man. Fortunately, there was no one there to see.
"You're the one who probably has to get up in the morning for something." It was a mumble, distracted. Ever could fall back asleep in a matter of minutes, if they went quiet.

What an odd pair they made, but in the dark it made no matter. How many others would have warranted far greater ‘squirming’ and struggle just by wrapping arms around him? But here and now he paid it no mind at all. “Should make you go in, see you serve up stupid chocolates…screaming little kids beating on the cases. ‘gona break it one of these days.” He mumbled half nonsensical till it was nothing more than a tired ‘humm’, soft snores and left them both sleeping.
