It was dark and quiet, the only sound that could be heard was a slight breeze that ruffled the leaves under the light of the moon. Imnir lay still near the edge of the compound, staring up at the stars. One might think that he was admiring their beauty or pondering some deep thought, but that was not the case. He was waiting.

Waiting for her...

Imnir hadn't seen that sneaky shadow mokai in quite some time, but every once in a while he caught the faintest trace of her scent. She was obviously still sneaking around on occasion, probably causing trouble, and he'd have none of it. Imnir didn't know how she was getting in or out, or why she came here, but tonight he was waiting to see if she would show her face again. Though he had threatened to sound the alarm upon seeing her again, he knew that his pride wouldn't allow him to unless it was necessary.

No, he was going to make sure she stayed out of here himself. He'd drive her away and if she still persisted, then he'd see to it that she was captured and taught a lesson.

She had decided to look for other routes inside tonight. Since she last saw Ai, she caught an unfamiliar scent near the fence she had tampered with, but it wasn't even the male fighter's, it had been someone else. Who would have gone there? It plagued her mind, her memory, she felt like she had caught the scent before, captured it, but it was lost in her past. She grit her fangs together as she moved in the night, the moon above her, her overseer. It lit her way.

The moon had once been a symbol of hope, freedom, now it was her guide back to see those she was caring for, the friends she had made after she had left. Funny, how the world worked that way. But there was one thing she needed to know, she needed to have before she could settle a score or two: she needed his name.

Snarling, she moved quickly, nose to the wind, trying to pinpoint where he was.

Reisx once called him omega, but she took it back, he wasn't worth of a rank title, even the omega had a purpose in a pack, was useful, but this brute, there was a scratch across his nose he couldn't let heal. He was letting it fester, and she'd help, if he didn't want it to cure.

Coming to the compound's wall, she stopped, listened, and drew a breath, and slunk into the shadows.

Imnir's ears perked forward, he thought he had heard something, but he couldn't be sure. It may very well have just been the wind as it had been so far. He listened as closely as he could, but there was nothing he could distinguish from the soft rustles that had been going on all night. He scowled and sniffed the air, and a faint smile formed on his maw.

She was here somewhere.

He couldn't see or hear her, but he had picked up her scent just enough to be sure that she was nearby. He stood up, no longer caring to wait in the darkness silently. His chain jingled as he did so, hopefully announcing his presence to her. But just in case...

"I know you're out there, little shadow." He called, "Have you come to play with the big dogs again?" His voice was loud enough that he was fairly certain she'd hear, but not so loud as to be likely to wake any humans or draw their attention. He didn't particularly care if he spooked her, that would just prove how much of a coward she was, but it would be more fun to continue taunting her if she decided to approach.

Reisx's ears perked as she heard the chain jingle, and she grinned. She kept close to the shadows. She knew that was where she had an advantage, not only did her fur blend in, but her speed, against his bulk of muscle and chain, would out grace him in the darkness. Reisx had pondered over the last few nights, what his weaknesses could be. Besides having someone he cared for, which she did not want to folly with, he had to have physical weakness. He was a brute, built for fighting, bred for it. HIs muscles, the depths of his shoulders she knew held power from their last encounter, but, she doubted his ability to keep up speed and stamina where her body was more lithe and flexible in comparison.

It was what she assumed, and hoped to be true.

"Big dogs?" she asked moving in the shadows, almost mimicking her encounter with one of the others she had had in the past. She kept moving, but kept her paws light on the ground, to make it hard for him to pinpoint her if he did wish to attack. "That has yet to be proven, don't you think?"

She kept moving, stilled for a moment, but at a distance, her voice loud enough for him to hear, at a whispering tone, "Able to walk today without consequence, noname?"

"I've proven far more than you have, coward." He scoffed, "Hiding in the shadows even now, too afraid to face me. Come on out little girl, I'm not going to hurt you. Not yet." He said with an indignant snort, "You're not worth my time, and I wouldn't want to contaminate myself by coming into contact with someone like you." He stood firm where he was, his head turning slightly in the direction of the sounds when ever she spoke, but he did not move the rest of his body. He wasn't afraid of her, he didn't need his guard up.

"Noname? You are one to talk." He laughed, "Not worth having a name, at any rate. And certainly not good enough to be graced with my name." It wasn't just her who didn't know his name because he felt they didn't deserve it. There were a handful of mokai who he despised, and he was fairly certain that they didn't know his name. If they did, they hadn't gotten it from him.

"If you need something to call me, you may call me 'sir', if you wish, but you won't know my true name so easily."

"I don't think so, pet," she said simply, letting her tail curl around herself. "Such big words for such a...small [p]pup, plus, you don't even know how to use them correctly. Case in point, you just contradicted yourself. You want me to come out, but I'm supposedly not worth your time?" She said smugly, a laugh escaping her lips. "Seems like there has to be something that intrigues you. "

When he spoke of her name versus hers, she laughed. "Sir, please, more like kāihe, would you like me to call you that from now on, kāihe? Seems to match you demeanor, and your...presence."

She came from the shadows then, letting the moonlight touch her back, the spots that came out of the darkness of her fur. She stood before him, she on the ground while he stayed perched on the wall. Reisx did not show fear, she did not let the scent even emanate from her, no, she showed herself, more than what his facade could say for himself.

"Well, kāihe? Give and take, or do you abide by no rule of ethic, no code of honor regardless of your status, hmm?"

"Clearly you didn't understand what I meant." He shook his head, "I wanted you to come out so I can see the look on your face when you learn your place, learn to fear me and have a little respect for your superiors. You're just not worth my time to bother chasing after you or hurting you. No, I'll let the humans do that. As much as I hate to pass the fun on to someone else, I know you'll hate it that much more if it is done by them."

"Oh, very clever." He snorted, "The shadow figured out that there is more than one way to call me an a**, very impressive." He rolled his eyes, "Your opinion of me is of no consequence, or have you not figured that out yet?"

Imnir nodded and jumped down from the wall, landing with a soft thud a short ways from her. "What an obedient little girl you can be when you want to be." He said in a mock-baby voice, "What a shame you couldn't have learned that when you were not afraid of the big bad humans. Maybe then I wouldn't have to help them hunt you down for that pretty little pelt of yours."

"You merely just try to cover you own mistakes, typical, of a male you doesn't know how to present himself, or ifs that your problem, haven't found someone who can tolerate you yet? Not surprising." She shrugged at his movements, and rolled her shoulders as he jumped down and sighed, seeming bored. "You think your antics scare me? And true, I call you kāihe, but that is merely because you think yourself such a king you don't pass on your name. If you think it so petty, you could have solved the problem by your own tongue, so it is by no fault of mine, but yours."

Her ears swiveled and she smirked at him, her fangs glistening for the moment they shown in the moonlight.

"You think I fear them now? I've grown, kāihe, since we've last met, and I will settle my debt with that oaf when I have the chance." She turned from him, showing her back, knowing it would cause annoyance, "You know, kāihe, I've made some friends since we last spoke, and let me tell you a secret, a time is coming where you, by yourself, will not suffice against the force that will rise to meet you."

She lowered her head, eyes narrowing, "They're coming, as will I, and I'll make sure they come for the likes of you."

"I know you fear them." Imnir scoffed, choosing to ignore most of what she said about him, "If you didn't you would have the courage to show your face under the light of the sun, not just the moon. Only cowards hide in the shadows of the night and fear the day."

Imnir momentarily considered pouncing on her and biting down on her spine with his powerful jaws as she turned her back, but no. He had too much honor for that, he wouldn't attack from behind, especially against such an inferior opponent. The time would come when they'd fight, he felt it in his blood, and that would be a glorious day.

"I don't doubt that there are some mokai out there as foolish as you." He growled, "But there are those around here who are smart enough to know what's good for them, know that my side is the right one, and you and your so-called friends will fall. I'll make sure to take care of you myself, however." He flashed his teeth at her, "So you finally learn your place before you die. What an honor for you."

"I come out during the night to visit those who are my friends within the compound, as it is easier for them to get away from their humans to see me. Oh, you didn't know that?" she sneered, "I don't have mokai that are my friends just beyond the walls, kāihe, but within. Seems your "right side" mokai still know that there is something in me to trust, and have as a friendship. But what would you know of friends?"

She huffed at him, shaking her head.

"You are so quick to pass judgement, but who will be there when you pass? I pity you, no friends, no allies, merely those that will relish in your relinquishment from this island."

She snarled at him, at his insinuation, of learning her place.

"I'll tear your throat out before you get the chance, kāihe, and your honor will be your absence from this place."

Her fur began to bristle, but ceased immediately when she began hearing howling erupt from behind her coming from the southern area of the mountains, from the clearing she had been to before. They waved in tones and pitches, and called in the night, when her eyes traveled back to the male fighter, she saw lights blast in the darkness of the compound behind him.

"Seems I'm being summoned, kāihe, if you are such a big dog, why don't you leave the compound for a night sometime, and come join the rest of them and I," she said motioning her head to the howling in the distance, "then we'll truly test your strength, fighter."

When she heard metal clang, her eyes went to the gates, heard the guards coming, and smiled at the fighter, "So will I know your name before I go? Or will you be kāihe?"

"Like I said, there are only a few who are smart and strong enough to be on my side, but there are also those who are weak within the walls who would flock to someone like you. I don't fear any of them, I have no reason to."

His ears perked up again as he heard howls, so that was where she had been hiding. Interesting. Though he didn't know exactly where it was, he now knew a direction, and that was something worth looking into if he could get a search party out there.

Imnir smiled as he heard the guards approaching. Time to see this little girl run away in fear. "I'm not about to spend any more time than I have to on you and yours." He snorted, "As much of a pleasure as it has been to spend this quality time with a shadow, I don't think I'll be wasting my time with it again anytime soon."

Imnir thought about it for a moment and shrugged. May as well put on a little show before his little 'friend' left. "My name is Imnir, learn to fear it, whelp." He bellowed, "Now run away like the rat you are, before the big bad humans come to put you in chains."

Reisx merely watched him, and as she got his name, she smiled at him, then looked to the guards. "Chains? Looks like they already have that covered with you honey, so keep them warm around your neck," she said with a snarl.

"As she turned to go back into the forest she hesitated, looked back to him, then the guards fast approaching, "Hey Imnir, have you ever wondered what they would do to a domestic..in chains, who wasn't supposed to be outside the walls? JUst some food for thought," and she was gone again.
