Sometime had passed since their return from the field trip…and after those events along with some others…Hel was seeking a certain type of company. A company that wasn’t confusing and was just straight forward and brutally honest. Besides, she owed said company some milkshakes anyways.

Hel meandered up the hill to the demon dorms, slipping into the finely decorated common room and paused, her brows furrowing. Oh…she didn’t know which one was Riyo’s…well damn. Oh well. She’d just do what she always did when she wanted to find something or someone, and that was look. As Hel started to make her way through the demon dorms, there were a few things that seemed to lead her in the right direction. First…there was a floor that seemed much, much cleaner than the others. Okay…so now she started to look at the doors, and she stopped in front of one in which she could see her reflection. Oh yeah…that just screamed Riyo.

The valkyrie’s reflection wasn’t smiling, but her lips couldn’t help but quirk. Hel reached out, waggling her fingers, and then proceeded to press her fingers all over the door, leaving finger prints. Once that was done, she knocked, and waited.

The sound of squeaking was the first thing that caught the vigorously working feline's ears.

Looking up from her work desk, Riyo's brows knitted together as the squeaks were followed by a knock. She hadn't been expecting anybody, and that worried her.

This week had been the first that she was in the right mindset to catch up on her ridiculous amounts of back work, and progress was slow with her lack of sleep. Right now, she didn't have time for visitors. She barely had time to take care of herself, let alone other people and their stupid problems.

The wheels of her chair rolled back as the ghoul gained room to stand, silently walking over to the door and cracking it open to peek a bloodshot eye out.

Oh jeez, it was Hel.

"What?" See, Riyo wasn't about to ask 'may I help you?' since that usually resulted in a request. 'what?' was much more off-putting and appropriate for the situation. Not that she imagined it would deter Hel anyways...

Hel’s excellent detective skills paid off. She was greeted by the sight of a Riyo!

The ghoul gave Riyo a small, simple wave of her head, her lips pulling up briefly before falling back down. “Hey.” She greeted, “I owe you milkshakes, friend.” It was obvious that she was now coming to collect up on that ‘agreement’ she had made with the cat demoness a while ago. True to Riyo’s hunch, the greeting wasn’t going to deter her.

Hel was good at picking the best/worst times to find the feline... And today she had most certainly hit the nail on the head.

Milkshakes? ******** milkshakes... Hel always brought up the Jack damn milkshakes. Eye narrowing, Riyo didn't seem to miss a beat as she shut the door without warning. "I'm busy." She called out from behind the exit to her self-inflicted prison. The demoness's red orbs found their way back to the mile high paper stack of work that needed to be processed. Something only she could do. Something only she could suffer through.

Somewhere deep down, she wanted to go see daylight again. Walk amongst the streets casually with someone she knew...

But wherever that somewhere was, it was crushed by the image of all those ******** papers. "And I don't care about milkshakes."

Actually... She couldn't remember the last time she had one... Or even how she felt about them.

You know, honestly, Hel wasn’t surprised that Riyo shut the door in her face. If this had been another day, she would have happily beat and kicked on the door obnoxiously until the demoness came back to open it…but not today. A light thud sound could be heard as the Reaper’s forehead smacked against it, and there she stayed, letting out a deep breath.

“…But Riyooooo…” Hel started. “You said we would, friend…”

Riyo waited for the sound of a battering ram at her door while she looked at her desk, but the only sound that signified hel was still there was the thud.

... That must've been a tiny battering ram.

No, this wasn't right. Hel wasn't demanding her presence or forcing the ghoul's hand. Something was wrong. More than that, it disturbed the feline that she knew something was wrong. How did she know something was wrong? Why did she care?

Slowly, the crack in the door reopened. What the-

"... Who are you and what have you done with the valkyrie?" Riyo asked with furrowed brows, not used to seeing the ghoul without some kind of spunk.

Even though she was lacking her usual spunk, Hel wasn’t going away, so that was a relief…possibly…

The reaper blinked as the door opened a bit, and she looked up at the cat demoness through the crack in the door. “Heh…she’s still here.” Hel replied. “…Just a bit tired…and really in the mood for a milkshake…with a promise to a friend to go get one. So let’s go, alright? If you were as busy as you claim, you wouldn’t have gone on the fieldtrip, or spent time lamenting at the wishing well.” Was she being a bit cheeky now? Totally.

The door opened a little bit more as Hel started explaining how she felt, revealing the feline's slightly confused face. That was, until Hel questioned how busy she was.

Now Riyo simply looked unimpressed. "Hel, this is a little bit different. I let things pile up and-"

Then she stopped herself. No. It wasn't that different, was it? She had let it get this bad. Riyo had let things build up. She decided to go on that field trip. She had let it get the best of her and refused to do anything resembling work for a week. Why?

Because... She hated it.

Riyo hated that company. She hated everything it stood for. She hated everyone that worked there, especially her vice president. And moreover, she hated that it was the family business.

THAT was why she was straying away from it... But stubbornly she refused to admit it.

The door shut again, but a few minutes later it reopened with the formal-clad feline dressed for an evening out. "Lets go get ******** milkshakes." Spoken like a true Riyo.

Hel looked unimpressed as Riyo tried to convince her otherwise, but the cat demoness stopped, and the reaper claimed her small little victory.

She blinked once more was the door was shut on her, but when it opened fully this time, the ghoul couldn’t help but smile a bit. She stepped to the side to let Riyo out, and once the cat demoness was ready to go, she started to meander back down the demon dorm’s halls. “Most excellent.” She murmured. “…How have you been faring, friend?”

Why Riyo always seemed to cave at Hel's whims was beyond the demon. It was like giving into a spoiled child who knew how to get what they wanted. Every. ********. Time.

Closing the door behind her, the feline walked side by side with the valkyrie as they headed out the entrance to the demon dorms. "About as well as you, I'd imagine." Riyo knew none of them had really been doing great after that mess. How could they? That wasn't just any s**t that hit the fan. That was DEEP s**t.

"Why did you pick today for milkshakes, Hel?" It was a more important question, though it probably wouldn't have seemed so to anyone on the outside looking in. "No bullshit answer, please."

Yes, Hel definitely knew she could make Riyo cave to her whims, one way or another. A special talent, perhaps? Or maybe Riyo was secretly a people-pleaser hmmm…

The reaper walked along with her friend, making it out of the demon dorms, and then on their way to town. She planned to take the ghoul to the same place Mot took her that one day a while ago…they had good milkshakes, and it was the only place she knew. “Ah…yes…” Hel gave a slow nod of her head. Yeah, none of them were fairing all that well, but still, it seemed impolite to not ask. The reaper’s lips quirked at Riyo’s typical delivery of her words. Ah yes…this is why she wanted to spend time with her today. No guessing…just straightforward, brunt, brutal honesty.

If not today, then when?” Hel questioned with a shrug of her shoulders. She trailed off for a moment, glancing around to see if there was anyone else nearby. Luckily, after the field trip…everyone was probably still recuperating, so it was okay to…say it to Riyo. “…I’m not a good friend, am I?” There, she just blurted it.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 07, 2011 9:21 am

Riyo's lips flattened as Hel blurted out such a strange question. Not a good friend?

"You do realize I'm probably the last person you want to ask abut this, right? I mean... I've never actually had friends. How am I supposed to judge your specific level of friendship, if that's even possible?"

Stuffing her hands in her oversized pockets, the cat ghoul looked to the valkyrie's face. Ah... But this was a serious question, wasn't it? Yes. That was why she was here. Because Hel needed something mentally that perhaps she assumed only the feline could give.

While Riyo thought it was a little silly, there wasn't much to do about it now besides what she always did. Give Hel what she wanted.

"Before I answer that question, what makes you think you're not?" Since obviously, Hel wouldn't have asked if she didn't.

Hel’s expression went blank as she processed what Riyo said. She kept walking of course…but her expression was just flat. Oh. Well. That the cat demoness said just made a lot of sense. Damn. Why didn’t this thought occur to her before?

Oh well.

The reaper shook her head a bit, looking over at the ghoul. “…The entire field trip?” She offered, raising a brow. “Between you and I…and then the whole situation with Mot…irritating Shun and Mitsu…upsetting Lattice…” She paused, her brows furrowing. “Well, honestly, I’m not sorry for what happened between you and me. Being sorry means I regret it, but I don’t.” Her lips quirked upwards briefly before falling back down again. “…I become upset, I say things…it upsets many.” Hel placed her hands on her hips, staring down at the side walk for now. “…If I didn’t carry my own weight through those rooms and in battle…I think I would have been…” No…even worse than useless. Hel sighed. Wow, she was just being rather open with the cat demoness…it was odd how…comforting it was. She didn’t feel the need to put up a front with Riyo, because Riyo saw through it anyways.

Riyo's brows began to furrow as Hel tried to explain the situation and how it made her feel. Okay. So wait. Did she regret not regretting not being sorry because sorry meant she regretted something and the valkyrie didn't want to admit regret?

Oh, this was a hard one to process. After Hel stopped talking, Riyo's frazzled brain tried to make sense of the ghoul's words. "Okay. So.. Let me see if I have a grasp on this." The feline started, her hands gesturing in front of her and her eyes looking forward to avoid distraction. "You. Hel. Say you don't feel bad for all the s**t that went down with you in the center. Okay. I get that part."

And now it got complicated. "BUT, you feel bad for not feeling bad, because you think your self-centered pride makes you a terrible friend. So, you don't feel bad for not being sorry, but the fact that you don't feel bad for being sorry makes you miserable."

Jack Skellington...

Riyo paused for a few moments with a thoughtful grimace on her face, her hands frozen in front of her like a dead mime. Then her head snapped to the side to look at Hel with a 'what the ******** look' plastered on her features. "Do you get what I'm trying to hint at here?" Allowing her hands to drop to her sides with an audible smack, the demoness shook her head. "And as for being useless in those rooms. Ahem. Hello? Forget who you're talking to here? I ******** knocked Mot out of the way."

She kept staring at Riyo, her expression faltering as the cat demoness seemed to misinterpret some of her words. Hel waved her hands a bit. “…Ah…I think you misunderstood a part, friend.” The reaper murmured. “…The tussles between you and I don’t regret. The tussles between myself and everyone else…that’s what makes me concerned. Though…I suppose your words still hold some truth. Some things I am sorry for…some things I am not.” Hel sighed deeply again, ignoring Riyo’s look.

As she reminded her what she did to Mot, the reaper chuckled softly. Hel hummed thoughtfully. “…I’m glad you were there, friend. I believe that sometimes being useful…doesn’t always mean being physically capable. You have very wise words…sometimes.”
