The shadows are just beginning in the deep forest as Lucian finishes his hunt. Light barely slips through the leaves to the floor as he makes his way to a small stream on the border of the forest to wash. Dipping his muzzle into the water, he washes down the taste of blood with the less appealing taste of water.

For a moment, he watches as the water swirls in crimson circles where his muzzle has touched the water. The fascinating patterns linger for a moment, before dissipating and disappearing forever in the stream. It was just as easy as that to wash it all away.

Stepping further into the water, his blade clanks against his side. But it's not that sound that brings his head up. It sounds like soft, very soft footsteps somewhere around. For a moment, he hesitates. It's against his nature to call out, but something furititve in him almost begs him to. "Who's there?"

Ves'tacha stepped quietly through the forest. She watched as the light filtering through the leaves lowered. The lace of light and shadow growing longer as the sun sank towards the horizon. Today had been a wandering day. She had been in this wood before, but had decided to wander from the paths, to see what could be found in the deeper shadows of the trees. She had been rewarded with a bush full of perfectly ripe blackberries. But that had been many hours ago.

Hearing the sound of water running gently through a stream, Ves'tacha had veered towards it. Perhaps, after a cooling drink, she could find a trail back to a safer area for a night's rest. It was something she knew she shouldn't delay, but she sometimes hated the confinement of 'safety'.

As she walked her hooves made gentle impact against the hardened clay. Feeling she was likely alone this deep in the forest, she hadn't been bothered by the sound, normally taking more care to walk silently. As a voice calls out, her head raises, ears swiveling.

Looking for a moment more like a deer than a Soquili, Ves'tacha searches the lengthening shadows ahead of her for signs of the speaker. Unable to see him, she takes a few hesitant, carefully silent steps forward. As the trees part before her, she sees a stallion in the stream.

He is magnificent. The last rays of the sun shining on him, the water sparkling in drops around him. Ves'tacha doesn't see the knife and the blood is too far down stream and too diluted to give warning. Slowly, she smiles. "Sastimos! Si'n Rom?"

Lucian sees the beautiful mare. There's no other way to describe her. Her hair done up intricately with pears cascading down, a feather perched jauntily in her hair. The natural beauty has not diminished but increased by these small trinkets of adornment, bringing a splash of colour to her brown hues.

He doesn't move, because that's how he's been taught. Not to approach with examining. So he stands there for a moment watching her before she speaks back to him. But the words that fall from her mouth are ones he's never heard before. "What?" The words fall from him before he can correct himself. Karloff and Ailbhe have taught him to have better manners than that. "Pardon? I don't...understand."

But the look on her face is evident, she doesn't mistrust him. She's not afraid of him, she sees him as no threat. Something inside of him relaxes. She is no predator, she is kind. He can smell it in the aroma of her blood, see it in her actions.

"Can you understand me?" He steps closer to her, trying not to spook her.

Well that answered that question. Ves'tacha didn't mind. She met far more Gaje than Rom. He seemed nice enough, friendly if a bit quick to speak. And he was rather striking.

Ves'tacha's mouth opens in a friendly smile, "Yes, I understand you. Hello."

Her smile doesn't hide the twinkling of her eyes or the slight shy turn of her head. Her eyelids lower slightly and she looks at him through her long lashes. For a moment she contemplates speaking further, but decides to wait for his next words. It is much more fun when they have to work for her words. But she does take a few more steps out of the woods, not concerned with safety. But, observed, she keeps her hoof-falls light, silent. A ghost wafting through the trees would make more noise.

Lucian felt intrigued. He'd never met someone that intrigued him this much, since--His heart gave a queer little ache. He couldn't think of that. She was dead...in the desert or forgotten about him. He couldn't hold on to her forever.

He watched the graceful movements, more like his own than some others. He bet she moved like a shadow through the woods. He had this desire to get to know her, which was not a typical feeling for him. There was something about her he just wanted to understand. The tilt of her head, the softness of her lowered eyes--he felt himself stepping closer. What kind of seductress was she that he could already feel a goofy little smile on his face?

"I am Lucian. What's your name goddess?"

Ves'tacha's smile widens almost imperceptibly. She turns, not so much away from him, but as if in answer to some unspoken whisper. She notes the droplets of water that falls from his coat as he steps further out of the stream. The light reflected in prismatic quality distracts her for a moment.

Blinking her eyes to return herself to the moment, Ves'tacha again looks at Lucian. "And what would you give me, strong Lucian, for the name of a goddess?"

She tosses her head to remove her falling bangs from her eyes. This one was interesting. She hoped he would play along, there was something about him, an edge of danger abandoned and of heartache unmended that called to her. Perhaps he needed a gentle touch. Perhaps she was interested in giving that touch.

Ves'tacha felt her skin ripple with that thought, though there were no flies about for the motion to dissuade. She had only just met the stallion and already she found herself thinking of his touch. She didn't mind taking a stallion for comfort along the road, but she tried to convince herself she was discerning in her choices. And it was entirely too early in the meeting to know if he was worthy of her time.

Lucian couldn't help but smile as the light reflects in the soft sheen of her hair as she tosses it. Beautiful, almost perfectly orchestrated it seemed. Her a dusty brown, between the pale colours of her body and the dark contours of her hair. There were a thousand intrigues dancing and teasing in her eyes as she looked at him. Her lips forming words with a soft accent, that seemed to shape the language and make it more beautiful than he ever could.

This one is a master of speaking, a master of her eyes. Dangerous, thrilling, captivating. Wouldn't it be a great way to die?

Die. For a moment something flitted into his mind again before he pushed it away, "I can't think of a name that would approach you in beauty. And I feel that I should know it, because you could not escape someone's gaze for long. Yet, I've not heard of anyone speak of someone so lovely. But a name? I dare not even know the name that could portray such beauty."

Ves'tacha's laughter falls in peals of sweet bell-tone music. Her smile brightens as she allows her eyes to run over him in appraising appreciation. "For such flattery, bold Lucian, you may know me to be called Ves'tacha."

Almost against her will, she takes a soft step forward. Her delicate neck arched gracefully as she nodded her head in his direction. "Your pardon, sweet Lucian. I fear my throat clogged by the dust of travel. Mind you that I might sip of the sweet waters at your feet?"

Mentally, Ves'tacha berated herself for such base flirting. But she found it intensely enjoyable, so she didn't listen to her own reprimands on the matter.

"Ves'tacha," it tastes sweet on his tongue as he utters it. It's exotic, intoxicating---so many things that he couldn't even process. He took a deep breathe as he nodded to her, "Yes, by all means drink."

He was captivated by her beauty. The easy grace with which she moved was natural, not like the learned hunter's tread he had acquired through practice. She was one with the surroundings, born that way rather than made. A thousand questions popped into his mind, but the first that came from his lips, "What language were you speaking? It's beautiful, I'd like to know it."

He'd never heard other's speaking in a different language then he was. Never wondered really what was beyond his home. He'd always been happy and safe with Karloff and Ailbhe. Never thought of the exotic blood flowing under foreign soquili's skin. He could almost taste her, Spicy, but sweet. Alluring, and yet dangerous. All of that he could smell just from her heart pumping it through her body. But he had long learned to deny his cravings unless invited.

Pushing them further from his mind, he watched her.

Ves'tacha lowers her head delicately to the stream and drinks for a moment before replying. She doesn't seem to mind being so vulnerable in that moment. Raising her head, she again shakes her fetlock out of her eyes and the water from her lips before returning her gaze to the stallion.

"Ah, friend Lucian. You have such questions. Yet you offer no trade for their answers. This final gift, for the respite of chill water, I am Roma, my words are Romani. We are few, but we are many. We know the world for our hooves trod upon it. This I may tell you freely." Her smile is sly and coy and her eyes sparkle through a half lidded gaze.

"Roma," the sound of it is pretty. "What would you have offer you? Ask it and it shall be given to know you?" His eyes alighted on her as the sun danced on her light skin. "What more can you tell me and in exchange for what? Truly ask me, I want to know you."

The eyes that glanced up at him drove him slightly mad, he meant every word he said.

Ves'tacha laughs lightly, "And in asking reveal my interests? Arn't you a clever stalion, bright Lucian? Were I to ask of your home, you would think I am interested in your territory. Were I to ask of your mate you would think I inquire if you are single. Were I to ask of your travels you would think I wish to walk with you a ways. Such questions are answers in themselves. Have you nothing to offer of yourself that I may not put myself to such disadvantage?"

Her smile sparkles with joyful mirth with twinkles in eyes and softens the expression. He was quite an interesting stallion. She was intrigued in spite of herself and she didn't miss the way his eyes took her in. This was starting to feel promising. At least a friendship might grow here, perhaps more, time would tell.

Lucian smiled lightly at her as her eyes twinkled at him, the expression on her face inviting. "What if I answer them freely? I was adopted by two kind souls who raised me in their ways. I roam as I like and return home. There is no one that holds me, all promises have been broken though not by me." A slightly sad and bitter tone came to his tongue before he shook it off.

"And my travels are nice, but not so nice as if you would walk with me a ways so I could know you. Now it is I, who am at your complete mercy. Don't make me suffer, goddess Ves'tacha."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 31, 2011 5:51 am

Ves'tacha's smile saddens slightly for him and his broken heart, but his final words, full of challenge, delight her. The happy grin returning, a peel of bell tone laughter echoes off the water. "Then to answer in kind, I am Roma, we are a family in all ways. Every one raised by all. And every one quick to take hoof and wander."

"I make no promises, with my heart or my lips. I do not accept such binding. I enjoy the company of others when such is joyfully given between friends and thus my heart is never broken nor captured." Ves'tacha takes a couple of steps deeper into the water towards Lucian.

Her eyes opening fully, she looks deeply into his, "Know that I can not and will not be tied down, persistent Lucian. You have been hurt by another. I accept traveling companions, but I allow no ties of anything more than lasting friendship." Ves'tacha's tone is just shy of a challenge, but simultaneously warm and stopping short of an invitation.

Lucian considered for a moment. There was the promise that whatever adventure they set out one have a definite ending. There was an expiration, a parting, and until we meet again. And yet, after what he had experienced--maybe that was what he was looking for. Maybe it was best to take in this moment, and to heck with the future. Maybe the present was what really mattered?

"I accept the rules," he smiled mischievously back at her. "I accept you as you are, I will not try to change you--just journey awhile until it's time for us to go our separate ways. Does that hold well with you?"

He took in the way she looked at him, so open and honest. She really was a nomad, much more than he had ever seen in anyone else.
