Following the events at the Museum, Noah was grateful for the ordinary hustle-and-bustle of Katarina. Sure, people were still fairly curious about what had gone on, but as far as he was concerned, it was a need to know scenario. And no one really needed to know. Rather than fuss with those details, Noah was focusing on his immediate problem. "Reno." He clicked his tongue, talking at the Vulpix rather than to her. "If we're staying in Katarina, we really need to find a proper place to stay."
The Vulpix, laying on the warm cement and partially hidden by the cafe table Noah was sitting at, just lifted her head and squinted at Noah. What did he want her to do about it? Pfft. Vulpixes aren't good references for leases. He looked down, and snorted at her look. "Apartments are out. We need a proper house."
The vulpix snorted.
Noah rolled his eyes, and took a bite of his sandwich, looking around. The cafe was nice and cheap, two things high on Noah's priorities, and put him in the center of Katarina's shopping district. Right in the middle of the hustle and bustle. Before, Reno would've been disturbed by it, but she ignored the traffic and chatter in favor of nibbling on a piece of sandwich Noah passed her.
Life was good. It'd be better when they had a home to mark as theirs, but for now, this was nice.
And then a scent hit her nose. Reno rolled off her side and sat up, sniffing and looking around. What was that?! That smelled so... familiar. Hmmmm.

Luna was talking a walk around Katarina's shopping district with her loyal Ninetales in tow. Usually, she hated taking out the ninetales for all the commotion it caused because everyone either admired the ninetales or recognized her through Nine. Afterall, how many people had a black ninetales?
Today was one of those days where she wanted her presence known though. There had been increased crime reports in the area and she hoped that a gym leader taking regular walks around the area would slightly discourage some crime.
Nine stuck close to Luna, not quite comfortable with the massive amount of humans. She was a wild pokemon at heart and felt a bit out of place among the mass hoard of humans that were gawking at her. There were too many sounds, smells, and machinery - it contrasted sharply to the quiet berry garden that she managed in the wild. Still, she was too proud to admit her discomfort and walked next to her trainer with her head held high. ((BTW, I editted Nine's image - you got her old image before Micro fixed it :3 ))

That head-held-high. The black fur. Those markings. Reno knew that ninetails. Quicker than Noah could stop her, Reno was up and diving out from her hiding place. She knew that Ninetails! IT BEAT HER ONCE! Clearly it was time for a rematch.
Noah jerked when Reno suddenly took off, and got up quickly. "Reno!" He shouted, chasing after the vulpix in exasperation as she tore past the crowds and, with a warning 'Pii!', leapt at the ninetails.
It was hard to tell if it was threatening or just excitement at seeing a Pokemon she recognized, though. And given that Noah had no recollection of the vulpix's past, he was confused when she outright tried to tackle the Ninetails. The fsck?
"Reno, what's wrong with you!" He chastised, fuming a little as he chased down the vulpix and dug out her pokeball to call her back.
((Oh, kthnx! I just yanked the one out of the battle. >.>))

Nine was always battle ready - her trainer had mentioned dangerous people in the area and it was her duty to protect her trainer. So when she spotted that vulpix running towards her in a tackle, she was quick to lash her tails at the vulpix in defense.
Luna took a few steps back from the sudden clash. The crowd mimicked her movements. 'Is this one of the thieves? But then...why would they attack?' Luna wondered in confusion. But whoever it was, they sure had guts trying to defeat a ninetales, especially her Nine, with a vulpix.

Reno had anticipated that Nine would do something. The last battle might've been long ago, but she recalled the battle well. Nine had beaten her because she was, plainly, better. But Reno had gotten better, too. She hissed at the tails, leaping back, and swatted at the tails in her way that were protecting Nine.
The distraction of swatting at the tails, however, gave Noah enough change to grab Reno and haul her back. "Stop it!" He fumed at her, holding the vulpix by the scruff of her neck and ignoring the indignant hiss. "I am so sorry." He blurted out, looking past the Ninetails to Luna.
"She's never done this, I don't know what's gotten into her."
Reno just tried to yank away from Noah, exasperated. She wanted to show how much better she'd gotten! Pffeh. Humans.

Luna continued to stare a little while longer in confusion. Well, the vulpix and its trainer most certainly did not seem like criminals. She was the trainer of many feisty battle-hungry pokemon herself, so she could understand the vulpix's impulse. It got the best out of any pokemon sometimes.
Nine looked to her trainer, looking for a signal of what to do. She had barely recognized the vulpix from a previous battle, but felt no need to communicate that information to her trainer. "Nine?"
Luna absentmindedly patted her ninetales on the head. "It's fine," she said; the statement was directed at both to Noah and Nine. "No one got hurt afterall, right?"

"Thankfully." Noah agreed, straightening up slowly and watching Reno with a pointed glare. She shrunk back, growling quietly, and eyed the Ninetails.
Reno glanced from one to the other, and started to step forward again. Less a threat, and more testing her boundaries. She got another sharp look from Noah, and grimaced when she heard the click of a pokeball. Meh. Meh!
She shrunk back, eying Nine and wagging her tails a little.

((HI SUPER LATE REPLY Q.Q ))
It was easy to see Reno's eagerness to get at Nine. She could sense it. A fighting spirit...or perhaps just a grudge of some sort. Luna knew Nine held grudges for quite a long time - she was still trying to get the Ninetales to forgive her for burning that one berry bush on accident years ago - and assumed that Vulpix share the same grudge-holding trait as Ninetales do.
A mischievous glint appeared in the gym leader's eyes. Who cared about catching thieves if she could have a promisingly-entertaining battle? "All pokemon need to let off some steam once in a while," Luna started, leaning down to look at Reno. "That whole odd mist incident kept me out of Katarina for days and I haven't had a decent battle since. What do you think," asked the gym leader as she tilted a head at Noah, "want to have a quick battle?"

((IT'S OKAY I STILL LOVE YOU. emotion_kirakira ))
Noah blinked at the glint in the trainer's eyes. Oh, he knew that glint. He knew it well. Noah hadn't been brought up to follow a trainer's shoes, but everyone who had a pokemon felt the urge from time to time to battle. Whether it was to show they were better or just stress-relief, Noah knew it well, and he'd been craving a good battle since the events at the museum.
His lip twitched as he straightened up, and he allowed himself to smile after Luna explained her absence during the events of the Museum. "Likewise," He said in response to her lack of battling. He nodded. "Sure. Something tells me Reno'll never let me live it down if I don't let her, anyway." He said, looking down at the vulpix with a scoff.
Reno seemed to grin, a challenging glint in her eyes, and hopped off her rump, tensing all over. Battle time? Battle time.

(( 8D!! ))
Overjoyed with the agreement, Luna had to physically restrain herself from dragging her opponent immediately to the gym by clasping her hands together in an excited motion. "Treat! Let's go to my stadium then," replied the gym leader.
Nine glanced at the vulpix, sizing it up. It seemed quite determined back before, but it was her pre-evolution, so she felt confident she could triumph. Still, she could not let her guard down. Not completely lax, but not as tense as Reno either, Nine walked confidently behind Luna as she headed towards the gym leader stadium which was in a slightly different direction from the normal stadium.
(After you make your next post, I guess set up a battle thread? xD Nine has 1100 HP btw emotion_awesome )

(Oh man Reno is going to die D8 .)
Noah grinned at the excited way Luna reacted, and blinked. Wait, her stadium? Did she mean Katarina stadium? That had to be it, right? Still, he followed, utterly unaware of where they were going. Until they were going in a different direction, away from Katarina stadium. Still, maybe she meant an outdoor stadium! Noah didn't battle a lot, maybe he just missed out on things! R-right?
The vulpix, all too aware of the trainer's prowess, wasn't surprised. She followed beside Noah, watching Nine closely. Observing every move and style, in an attempt to prepare herself for the oncoming battle. Her reverie was broken, however, when Noah suddenly squeaked.
"Reno, what did you get me into." He muttered, staring. Staring at what, you might ask? The Gym.
Apparently, his headstrong Pokemon had gotten him into a battle with a Gym Leader. Ohhhh god. Death was imminent.
