Today was just.... So confusing... Dinnye's father, as usual, was being a spaz, but.. It wasn't that good of a spaz that he was used to.. It was rather sad, but after a quick command to go walk about on his own, he thought nothing more about it, going over to the pond nearby at the park...
Despite the rather brash actions of his father, he couldn't help but enjoy the scenery around him... The Fall colors, though sparse now in the later months, were just as magnificent as any he had seen before... A sense of nostalgia filled him, though he did not know why...
Instead, he sat at the edge of the water, enjoying the peace while he could... There was nothing more relaxing than the crisp autumn breeze...

As far as Dorian was concerned it was a wonderful day. Earlier he had gone shopping with Knife for some new fall and winter clothes. There were few things Dorian loved more then getting new clothes, but he did love fall and winter clothes in particular. There was something about all the layers and the wonderful fabrics that he thought spring and summer clothes seemed to lack.
After Dorian arrived back home and changed into one of his new outfits he decided that they day was also a perfect day to paint. He'd been itching to paint lately and as he saw it the trees were wearing new outfits too and they deserved to be appreciated. After gathering all his supplies he headed to the local park and began searching for the best spot to set up.
It took a few minutes of searching because none of the spots seemed...quite perfect enough but finally as he approached the water he felt a sharp swell of inspiration. It was obviously the perfect spot. As he scanned around Dorian noticed another boy who looked his age and paused in setting up his things. Maybe talking to this boy for a little while could be fun before he painted, it was early in the day and there would still be plenty of light.
"Hello there. It's beautiful out today isn't it?" Dorian asked as he drew closer to the other boy.

It came as quite a surprise as another person made their presence known, startling the young melon scented boy. He let out a silent sound, jumping quite a bit, before turning himself around giving him small smile. He quite agreed with how beautiful it was, but.. Unfortunately, it was rather hard to express it.
Not too far away, near his own knees was a white board, with a green dry erase marker. Through his sleeves, he picked up his items, writing in neat and loopy letters.
Good afternoon! It is quite lovely... I am sorry I have to speak with you like this, but... Due to an incident, I am a mute... But that's alright~ My name is Dinnye~ What is your name?

At first Dorian was a little confused by Dinnye's actions but he soon figured out that the boy couldn't talk. It seemed rude to say anything while the other boy finished writing so he waited in polite silence, though with a smile. As he waited, Dorian noticed Dinnye smelled a bit like melon, which was a very nice scent. He also noticed how neat the other boy's writing was and greatly approved. His father Knife had stressed to him that handwriting was important though a bit of a lost art these days.
As Dinnye finished writing Dorian opened his mouth to reply. "It's alright, I'm just glad we can talk at all. You have very neat hand writing. My name is Dorian, and its nice to meet you Dinnye. Did I pronounce that correctly?" Dorian had pronounced it 'Din-nigh' though it was a name he'd never seen before so he wanted to be sure he was saying it right.

It was rather kind of the boy to say that he had nice handwriting.. As a child 'born' into higher society, it was absolutely necessary to perfect all sorts of arts, even one as simple as neat handwriting. And though the most of his life focused on his handwriting be as legible as possible, he made saw it as a craft, something he could contribute to the art world.
Ah... Thank you! I appreciate you saying that... I do try my best! And yes! I'm quite surprised you got it right.. So many people call me 'dinny' since they assume it is silent, the e that is.. It's quite a pleasure to meet you, Dorian.. I actually remember reading a book about a man named Dorian recently. Never thought I'd meet on in real life, well, not meaning that Dorian is an uncommon name but.. Oh look, even in writing I ramble, I am sorry..

Dorian was quiet again as Dinnye wrote, though his expressions changed as he read Dinnye's words. He smiled knowing he'd gotten Dinnye's name right and chuckled a bit at the part about his name. It was a little surprising to Dorian since it seemed like most children had not heard of the book.
"I'm glad I got your name right. I was worried I was saying it wrong. Was the book called 'The Picture of Dorian Gray'? I'm told I was named for the book but I'm not allowed to read it just yet." At this Dorian pouted a little bit. He didn't really like when Knife told him he wasn't allowed to do things, though Dorian had no idea he was probably allowed much more freedom then most children.

Yes, that was it! It is rather graphic for someone our age.. But My father insisted that read all the classics.. I honestly believe that you are nothing like that Dorian, except perhaps just as dashing. He grinned a bit, being honest~ Red was such a brilliant color. The color of roses, of fine wine, and of the sweet flesh of watermelons. It was quite the color, red was.
His eyes came to rest on a bit of equipment that stood behind Dorian. Paint...? Well, of course it was paint. It was a brilliant day after all, and some people probably wanted to get work done instead of sitting around, wasting their day away.
I see you have some artisitc items with you~ Are you a painter? Well, that's a bit of a stupid question.. What do you like to paint?

Dorian gave out a delighted laugh as Dinnye called him dashing. He was really very flattered. He didn't think anyone had called him that besides Knife before, but Dorian had always assumed he was teasing a bit. It also pleased him that Dinnye had noticed his painting things, maybe he'd be willing to be painted. Come to think of it Dinnye seemed to fit right in with many of the fall colors.
"I think you flatter me, but thank you." Dorian gave him a charming smile. "My father tells me he named me Dorian because he thought I was beautiful like the character in the book. I don't think its that he thinks the book is too graphic for me since I've seen some movies that I think would be considered graphic. I think he just wants me to be older so I understand all the deeper meanings or something like that." He waved his hand dismissively. "About the painting, it wasn't a stupid question I don't think. I like to paint all kinds of things though, but I don't like abstract paintings as much. Today I thought it would be nice if I painted the fall leaves. Though I was thinking... would you mind if I painted you too?"

The only thing about Dorian was.. That he was easily corrupted by the lures of the world, and he lost his innocence to such a thing... He went from a bright, shimmering young man, to something even the dogs wouldn't touch... Oh goodness! I didn't mean to give anything away!! His cheeks quickly flushed, showing Dorian his board, keeping his eyes down. Though the next words that came from him surprised him in a way that he couldn't quite say...
He had been painted before, as a child of high ranking, his own father demanded that a family portrait be painted. But there was something much more special about having a friend paint him, and he quickly nodded in agreement.
I wouldn't mind at all.. Is there a particular way you would like me to pose? Or should I just... You know.. Sit naturally..?

Dorian's brow furrowed slightly as he read what Dinnye wrote, but not because of the thought that Dinnye was giving anything away. It just kind of made Dorian wonder about which Dorian Knife had been thinking of when he picked the name. Did Knife think he was going to be corrupted into something terrible? He quickly returned to smiling though. It wouldn't really do to dwell on that kind of thing anyway.
"It's ok. I'm sure that you didn't give much away." He gave Dinnye a reassuring smile then looked contemplative as he thought about how Dinnye should pose. "Hmmm I think perhaps you should just sit naturally, however is comfortable for you. I'll go set up my things." With that Dorian gave his new friend one more smile before heading over to set up his things.

Did... He say something wrong? With how quickly Dorian's smile dropped, Dinnye couldn't help but feel as if he had spoken something wrong, something that may have hit a nerve with the other boy.. But as soon as the other began to smile again, so too did his own, and he nodded in acknowledgment, setting his own bag and board to the side.
The ground was damp, but no in a soaking way.. Such was nature of a fall afternoon, especially after the morning frost had melted. It took a moment for Dinnye to decided on how he wanted to sit.. There were so many options, and then there was also the consideration on how he positioned his body, on where his hands and legs went... And how could he sit to be most comfortable... He then though of a pose, quickly standing back up again to spread out the thick blanket that he had in his bag, laying it down neatly, and then laying down upon it, curled up under his thick coat, cozy and warm.
He figured, maybe a napping pose would be best. Not only would that keep him still longer, especially since he didn't move around too much when he slept, but that way, he wouldn't feel so sore staying in one position. Dinnye had neglected to ask, but... Dorian wouldn't mind he chose this, right?

It didn't take Dorian long to set up his easel and then the canvas as well. He glanced over to see that Dinnye had settled down like he was going to take a nap. It seemed like a wise idea to Dorian, much more comfortable then sitting up straight for long periods. He reached into his bag and started picking out the tubes of paint he wanted to mix his colors. Once he'd gotten the color he wanted he began to apply the paint to the canvas, starting on the grass first.
As he painted he hummed to himself softly. He'd been listening to a lot of classical music lately and there was a certain song stuck in his head. It didn't take long for Dorian to progress with the painting, he was still learning but so far he thought that it was turning out really well. He made a point to finish painting Dinnye first so he wasn't stuck in one position for too long.
"You can move now if you want, I've finished painting you!" He called over to his friend.

A gentle breeze caressed his cheek and ruffled his hair with the most tender of touches. Sure, it sounded a bit exaggerated, but the day was just so brilliant, that it just sounded appropriate. It was just so.. Toasty, and very quickly, Dinnye was asleep, almost as comfortable as if he were in his own bed.
It wasn't until Dorian's voice rode across the wind that Dinnye stirred, sitting up and streching, hearing just a little pop as he did so. He was finished..? Oh how exciting!!! He quickly bounced up and held his board out after quickly scribbling on it.
You're all finished? Really?! May I see it? Please?!

A surprised look settled across Dorian's face as he realized that the other had been truly sleeping. He probably would have let Dinnye sleep longer if that was the case.
"Oh well, I actually still have to finish the trees still. I just wanted you to know you could move now if you wanted, I'm sorry I woke you. You can come watch me finish it though if you like." Dorian peeked around his easel to give Dinnye a smile before returning to his brushstrokes. The style of the painting was a bit impressionistic, which was a style Dorian had been experimenting with lately. He just had to finish the trees and then add some final details and the painting would be complete.

A hidden hand came up again to rub at his eyes, lifting his glasses up just a little bit to reach them, before streching and going to Dorian's side.
A soft breath escaped his lips as he laid his eyes on the painting. It was so lovely... Did he really look that cute, all snuggled under the large coat... It seemed to easily capture the feeling of autumn. The colors blended in so well, and even Dinnye looked as if he naturally belonged there. It was spectacular. A smile grew to the point that it even reached his eyes, and he couldn't help but wonder if he'd be allowed to keep the painting..
Tell me, how did you get so good at painting?!
