Paperdoll Catalog Costume Contest

Starts: Now!
Ends 6pm CST November 4th

(Note: Mindsends will be selected on the 5th, since she's going to be away until the evening.

The Storyteller selects on of his enchanted tomes blindly for you to look at between stories, and cocks his head to the side, discovering it to be a Magazine with pictures of stylish soquili dressed up for the Fall Season of Spirits. Smiling with a hint of wickedness, he suggested, perhaps, you could help two of his newest companions with finding their 'story', and use the magazine to help.

Leading you behind the old Wooden tunnel left behind by the carnival the year before, using it's dimly lit lights for you to work by. With a smile, you look over the pair, and ready the tools -- this would be your masterpiece.

Name of Soquili: Rampage (The original Rapunzel is named after a plant called Rampion)
Temper: Twisted

(Links to Polyvore - listen to the music on the right!!)

Was it inspired by a story? Yes, Rapunzel! I'm using a mix of a few versions to weave my dark tale.

Rough Description of Story: Rapunzel was sick of being locked in a tower her whole life - there was nothing to do. Finally when the old witch came home and asked Rapunzel to let down her hair, the girl just snapped. She was filled with so much rage that the blood vessels in her eyes popped, making it look like she was crying blood. She grabbed a dagger and slashed the crap out of that nasty old witch. After the deed was done, everything about her turned dark - most of all her heart. Next she finds the royal parents who let the witch get ahold of her and killed them too. She took her mothers crown, which turned black from the taint of Rampage and placed it on her head. She's satisfied with her revenge... for now.

Comments: The hair is supposed to be black, and the flowers in it should be rampion bellflowers. (There also doesn't have to be so many of them - just a few or even one is fine.) She doesn't need to be fully clothed - the dress can be made into a scarf or saddle or other kind of accessory to make her look dressed up. Whatever it is should be splattered with blood. The blade should be strapped to her back leg and also be dripping with blood.

Name of Soquili: Cygnus Atratus (Black Swan)
Temper: Bitter

Was it inspired by a story? The Ugly Duckling

Rough Description of Story: Cygnus was born into a family of beauties, all of her siblings were sparkling white, beautiful both inside and out...except for Cygnus. Though she tried to fit in she was met with nothing but taunts. The straw which broke her was when her siblings were given beautiful white swans as gifts while Cygnus was ignored as the outsider of the family, she grew jealous and bitter towards those who spoke to her with cruel words and taunts, as the swans grew beautiful and her siblings more prideful Cygnus began to hatch a plan and one night while her family was sleeping she killed the swans and her siblings, keeping a carcass as a memento before fleeing into the night to let her parents wake to the slaughter and maybe..someday..realize their mistake in ignoring their one different daughter.

Comments: The tuffs on her front legs are supposed to be feather - I just fail at drawing them lol. Likewise the mane is meant to be a windswept look and her muzzle is meant to be somewhat beakish.

Was it inspired by a story? The Frog Prince

Rough Description of Story: In order to help a Princess Frauki convinced her that he would solve her problems if only she would marry him, when the princess declined sying that she could never marry a frog Frauki promised her that he would turn into a handsome prince upon their first kiss...but first she must agree in the presence of others to marry him. The thought of marrying a handsome prince and gaining help in solving her problems was to much for the Princess to pass up and so she agreed. Once the contrat was drawn however and the kiss delivered Frauki proved to be a demonic creature and used the Princess and her wealth to gain his own fame and drive the kingdom into ruin.

Comments: his tail is meant to be somewhat of an altered unicorn tail and his horns are supposed to glow with demonic power! His mane looks a bit like grass in my drawing but really its just supposed to be messy and wild lol

Was it inspired by a story? The Frog Prince

Rough Description of Story:
Acro liked being a Frog, but given his family.... who wouldn't?! He had been chilling out, minding his own business when suddenly these two huge lips came out of no where and started kissing him on the behind (afterall, they couldn't stand the thought of looking at his face).

POOF!!!

He was a horse again.... a four legged, large built, hay munching mammal.... and he was not happy about it. Far from it! It had taken him three years to find a witch capable of turning him into a frog in the first place.... now his quest would begin all over again! Mad he turned his attention to his 'saviour'. "What do you think you're doing? Going around kissing frogs bottoms!" He huffed, puffing out his chest as far as he could. "What did I ever do to you?" He stuck his tongue out at her, his hope being that his rudeness would end the conversation before it ever began... of course, he hadn't expected that his 'frog' tongue would still be intact, at least not until he found the sticky thing attached to his 'saviours' cheek.

Comments: More than happy for the colourist to pick/tweek colours, but I like the idea of his hair being green/black/gold, and all his accessories to match.
Very fun competition XD thanks for hosting it! *huggles*

Was it inspired by a story? Little Miss Muffet

Rough Description of Story:
Little Miss Muffet sat on a tuffit,
Eating her curds and whey,
Along came a spider,
Who sat down beside her,
So Little Miss Muffet shooed it away.

It came back again later,
And sat down beside her,
An exhausted Miss Muffet did sigh,
Before flicking it off to the side.

Once more it came back,
A persistent little chap,
So failure was on Miss Muffets side,
Giving in on a whim,
She gave a big grin,
And place it on her head for a ride.

Comments: Little Miss Muffet was one of the first rhymes my parents taught me a child... and I never understood why she ran away from the Spider, so its nice to see that she doesn't for a change! =D
NB: She has curly hair.... but I suck at drawing them XD

Was it inspired by a story? Kind of... The story is a mixture of the old Greek story about Helen of Troy, The Little Mermaid (Disney), Cinderella (Grimm/my own retelling), and Anastasia (the animated movie). And maaaaybe Thumbelina, just because.

Rough Description of Story:
In The Beginning (Cinderella-ish)
Once upon a time in a land far away, there was a princess. Her name was not known, and even she herself has forgotten it, so we will call her 'Helena'. Now, Helena was a beautiful princess - her luxurious, dark red hair was kept tied in bows, and her midnight black coat attracted attention wherever she walked. Around her neck hung a precious jewel, one that meant the world to her - a gift from her deceased mother.
As Helena grew older, suitors began lining up at her father's door, both for himself and his daughter. He was reluctant to take a wife for the memory of his only love, but knew that his daughter longed for a mother. Finally, he chose one that seemed suitable - she even had a pair of daughters that Helena could easily befriend. But, on a moonlit night, as everyone was sitting down to dinner, Helena felt stirrings of unease; Stepmother was watching her with an ominous gleam in her eye. Frightened, Helena put a hand on her father's wrist as he moved to take a drink from his cup. "Do not drink," she said. "I fear that it is poisoned."
Her father looked at her incredulously. "Poisoned, daughter? By whom?" he asked, looking around the room. "We treat the staff and cook well, and no one can gain from my untimely demise. Who would have the motive?"
"Milady Stepmother," Helena replied, glancing across the table to where her stepmother sat between her own two daughters. The woman was fuming and beginning to turn red.
Helena's father quirked an eyebrow. "Is this true?"
The stepmother did not answer right away, but instead looked to Helena. "If you believe it is poisoned, drink it," she said, waving a hand as if to brush off a silly child's worry. "The culprit would surely step forward with the antidote if the poison were not meant for you."
Helena's father was outraged by the stepmother's apathy for his daughter's health. He began to say something, but Helena stopped him - "I will drink it," she said, standing. Eyes level with her stepmother's, she took the cup in hand. "If I die, at least I will have saved my father's life, and you will be sent to the gallows." Before her father could stop her, Helena lifted the cup to her lips and took a sip of the bittersweet liquid.
Immediately, she knew something was wrong. She did not feel ill, or as though she were going to die - Helena felt perfectly normal, but the drink had tasted odd. Looking down at it, she saw that the color was off, as well. Stepmother interrupted her thoughts. "See, you are still alive," the wicked woman said, smiling with false kindness. "I could never harm you or your father. Is there not a way to prove it to you?"
Helena's father, shaking his head, annoyed with his daughter's behavior, took the cup from her and drank the rest of the liquid before Helena could stop him.
It had been enough. His face began to slowly change colors, and his veins, from the fingers to the toes, ran black under his skin. Father looked down at his hands, and then to his daughter - his eyes were flowing with crimson tears. Coughing fits wracked his body, spraying blood onto her hair bows. As Helena watched the horrific death of her father, the poison that was in her began to run its course as well, though it was not a fatal one; her nose bled, and she, too, wept tears of blood.
When her father had at last collapsed onto the table in front of him, Helena looked up to find her stepmother bearing down on her with a pair of scissors. Backing away from her stepmother, Helena tried to run from the room, but could not make it before each of her stepsisters grabbed a side of her head and chopped off a long lock of hair. With only two bows left, Helena ran from her house.

The Loss of Memory (Anastasia)
Now that Helena had run away from home, she had ended up in a frightening, frigid wood in the harshest part of winter - she had wandered from the road, and by some miracle, soon learned what it took to survive on her own.

The Handsome Prince (Cinderella/Anastasia/Little Mermaid)

The Kidnapping (Helen of Troy/Little Mermaid)

The Escape & (Hopefully) Happy Ending (A New Beginning)

Comments: This is going to be a rather long, detailed retelling... I hope that's alright. ^^;

Name of Soquili: Katherine
Temper: Schizophrenic

Was it inspired by a story? It's based on Mary's Child. The starting is the same as the original (she goes to Heaven blahblah) but there's no happy ending and yep.

Rough Description of Story:

A woodcutter and his wife, living in poverty, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. When she was three, they no longer had any means of feeding her and feared for her life. The Virgin Mary appeared before them and said she would take the child and raise her in Heaven. Though they loved her very much, they wanted their daughter to have the best possible life and that was something they could not give her. They gave the child to the Virgin Mary and never saw her again.

Mary named her Katherine and she stayed in Heaven for many years, forgetting all about Earth. Angels and cherubs became her friends and the people she knew. She never once questioned why she did not have wings like them, she simply believed she was special. She danced among the clouds, eating the finest foods, drinking the finest drinks and listening to the finest music. Everything was perfect.

However, as Katherine was human, she was subject to the same follies of emotion that humans where; subject to the same evils. Mary feared this and kept a close eye on her. However, nothing too extreme occurred and soon the Mary’s fears floated away. One day, Mary had to run on an errand and she left Katherine with the keys – saying she could open the first twelve doors, but she COULD NOT open the thirteenth door.

Katherine agreed and Mary left, promising to return soon enough. She opened the first twelve doors and found an apostle behind each one. Her eyes lingered on the thirteenth door and she stepped close to it, pressing an ear against it and heard the sweet hum of voices. Curiosity got the better of her and she opened the door, finding the Trinity behind it. She reached out to touch it and her hand was stained gold. Frightened, she quickly closed the door and hurried off to wait for Mary’s return.

Mary returned shortly after and noticed Katherine’s hand. She knew she had opened the thirteenth door, but she wanted to give Katherine a chance to tell the truth. She asked Katherine if she opened the thirteenth door and Katherine said no. Two more times she asked, but still Katherine answered no.

Mary wept for the child she had come to love, for the fear she had always felt was justified. She told Katherine that she could no longer live in Heaven as she had been dishonest.

And so Katherine fell to Earth, her Heavenly garb stripped from her body. When she awoke she was naked in a forest. A King and his hunting party came across her and he instantly fell in love with her beauty and made her his bride. He believed her to be perfect and worshipped the ground she walked on.

But everything was not well with Katherine. Having grown up in Heaven she believed she had been sent to Hell – for she did not remember that she spent three years on Earth. She eventually went mad and refused to speak. Her husband, the King, put it down to stress from her past life and did not question it.

Katherine became pregnant not long after her marriage to the King. She gave birth to a son and shunned the child straight away. He terrified her. She believed him to be a demon and could not bear to have him living. One week after she gave birth, Katherine crept into the child’s bed and smothered it with a pillow.

When the body was found, the doctor claimed the death was due to natural causes and Katherine continued. She fell pregnant a second time and killed the child. The third time, the King grew suspicious and confronted Katherine. Katherine explained her life before she met the King and explained that Mary was taking her children as punishment.

The King believed Katherine and begged her to come clean. Katherine insisted she had done nothing wrong and had nothing to confess to. The King believed Katherine could not do a single evil deed and so the issue was not brought up again. The children were deemed lost forever and Katherine and the King did not conceive anymore.

Katherine began to feel something inside her, a voice whispering to her at night urging her to tell the truth, about the Thirteenth door and her children. Every day the urge grew stronger and the voice louder until Katherine couldn’t take it anymore. She cut out her own tongue so that she would not tell the truth. However, she didn’t do a very good job of it and slit her mouth in the process.

When the King found her, she could not explain what had happened. Rumours began to spread of the Queen’s madness and the King’s subjects began to rebel against him. And so, he sent the Queen away, banishing her from the Kingdom. For though he once loved her dearly, he could see the madness in her.

Katherine took with her her favourite jewellery and her crown and began travelling to the highest mountain possible in hopes that she might find the entry to Heaven so that she could leave Hell. She killed along the way, anything she could take down and never once washed their blood off of her body, forever stained. Eventually she began to change, her madness twisting her body in ways that were so irreversible and so disturbing that even if Mary forgave her, she would never recognise her daughter today.

Comments: I couldn't edit it on the soq but if one of her hooves could be golden, that'd be great. Details of Katherine.

Was it inspired by a story? Yes, cinderella... but now Spinderella

Rough Description of Story: Spinderella has been badly burned when she was a child, in a fire that had taken her parents from her. An old mare took her in, but only to use her as someone to do her bidding. She treated Ella like a lesser creature and constantly told her how ugly she was. Ella's only friends were some spiders that shared the area she slept. One day a spider larger than she had ever seen before crawled in the old mare's path. She became furious and demanded Ella to squish the spider. When Ella refused, the mare took her anger out on Ella. "Is this how you repay my kindness? I took you in, when no one else could even look at you. Are you as stupid as you are grotesque?" The spider took pity on her and crawled away. The next morning Ella awoke to find a mane of spider silk. In someplaces it was clasped with actual spiders. The large spider from the night before sat before her, and said nothing.

details: Top right shows hair style length(possibly would be shorter), but hair would be bright white and would 'bleed' red highlights and would drip of blood. Also shows examples of thorns climbing the body Some of which would weave through the hair and around head? Maybe the thorns would form horns on her head similar to the pic(just an idea)
Top Middle: Shows the necklace she wore before her affliction happened...it can be played with and made to look darker...it is already called 'Dark Fairy' but she could certainly look darker and the stones are up to CC or could be a shining diamond color and neutral
Bottom Right is simply another thorn example engrossing her....more then she would actually have edit wise.
Bottom Left: A Braclet and like the necklace it could be made darker looking and the stone color is CC.
As far as being made a mutant if she is to be made a mutant..the thorns become a part of her instead of just growing around her I guess? Otherwise they are treated as mere accessories...and I can't draw so this is the best I can do xP
Was it inspired by a story? Retelling of the story of Sleeping Beauty where the Good Fairy's sleeping spell somehow goes terribly wrong...or did it? Maybe the fairy wasn't really good after all? Mwahahaha!!

Rough Description of Story: We all know the ancient fairytale of Sleeping beauty who pricked her hoof(?) on a magic spindle and because of the evil witch's spell she was to die? But we know she did not die for thanks the grace of the three good faeries she was kept alive. Namely for the third who used her gift to only let her sleep and not die.....but in truth the fairy didn't have the power to grant such a wish and in the earlier years when Briar was still a baby she had struck a wicked deal with the evil fairy.

When that dreadful day came Briar fell into a deep slumber and was laid in a soft red surrounded by gifts and her favorite purple roses. Her parents mourned to dream with her and the evil fairy had predicted this and the good fairy told them she could allow them to sleep...she could allow them all to sleep until Briar's true love found her in 100 years. They agreed and with no emotions left the fairy laid them all to sleep.

Briar's parents sat outside her room as the fairy soon cast the spell over them and over the entire town, but as she did....Briar began to awaken and thorns began to ensnare the buildings and even the people that were now asleep. As she awoke she looked around she tried hard to remember what happened and she remembered her parents and the evil fairy posing as an elderly mare and the spinning wheel. She dashed out of her room only to see her parents asleep, she tried to wake them, but it was useless. She ran trying to find anyone, but everyone was asleep. She rushed out of her home, but all she found was thorns covering the homes and peoples and they were then heading for her.

Briar ran to the edge of town the thorns on her heels, but she was met with a wall of thorns and the once good fairy tangled, seemingly lifeless. She screamed and tried running through the thorns back to her house, but the grabbed at her wrapping around her legs, cutting her and tearing her clothes and soon soaking them with blood. She tore at them with her mouth desperate to get through, but they were to thick. They wove themselves through her hair and around her neck and ironically made themselves into a tiara atop her hair. Blood ran through her shinning white hair giving her the illusion of red highlights.

Soon she was trapped and the thorns lifted her above the town and she heard the cackling of the evil fairy in the distance as tears and blood mixed together and ran down her face. She would no longer sleep for eternity, but instead she would continue to live trapped forever watching the world live on without her....she would be forgotten never to be loved again....She was no longer the Rose, she was just the Thorn

Comments: Ya....it went a little different then I thought, but there you have it...she wouldn't necessarily be a mutant, but it leaves some freedom still to play with her...and I think my brain is dead now xD

Name of Soquili: Perth
Temper: Unforgiving

Was it inspired by a story? Peter Pan//Lord of the Flies//Children of the Corn

Rough Description of Story: Neverland has lost it’s magic.

Without out magic the island has grown to be a dark and unpleasant place.
All of Perth’s Lost Boys slowly grew up, their voices got deeper and the silly costumes were much too small for them.

Perth went a little crazy, to say the least.
It’s not sure where he went or what he did while gone, but the pressure of growing up and losing superiority over the foals drove him bit-by-bit madder.

Slightly, a nasty little Kalona, was the next oldest of the group and was now in charge. He always evoked fear into the group, but now it was different.

He was the leader now.

Slightly preached the prophecies of a demon on the island ‘He Who Walks Behind The Trees.’ He spoke of promise to the younglings, saying he was the speaker of the demon and they could appease it with blood being spilt.

They destroyed.
They pillaged.
They killed.

The very first on the their long list sacrificial murder was Captain Hook.

Perth returned to his madden group, just as insane and welcomed. He was even given the title of lieutenant, second in command to Slightly. That wasn’t good enough for him; not only did they kill his archenemy, but they placed him only as second best. Perth waited though, slowly converting the young dull minds of his clan brothers.

Then there was a moment of weakness that Slightly showed. His own conjuring had scared him; whatever was next on He Who Walks Behind the Trees list had Slightly in fear.

Perth seized the opportunity.

“He Who Walks Behind the Trees will guide us.” Perth declared, feeling the power in his hooves again, now talking on the role of speaking for this ‘demon.’

“Those who dyne our Lord will perish.”

And Slightly was killed; his skull still rests upon Perth’s shoulder.

Comments:
Umm he's a hoarder, so things and knacks are a plus.
And his band on his legs can be whatever, since I'm boring and unoriginal. xD
Sword could be moved to leg straps?
Up to you have fun. : D

Was it inspired by a story? How to Train your Dragon and Pocahontas/The Lion King 2.. IDK Sappy stuff ;u ;.

Rough Description of Story: Blooddrawer grew up in a herd of wild Soquili who believed in the inner spirits of the world. But even before the time of Blooddrawer, there was another tribe who opposed her's.
They were mainly Skin Walkers who bonded together for mainly the purposes of breeding. At times twisted Soquili would join the Skin Walkers as Refuges and possible breeding-companions. Sometimes Soquili joined the Skin walker tribes under peer pressure and possibly death threats.

It came a time where her tribe switched it's rather friendly outlook on naming. Staying lightfooted and kind the herd began to name their colts and fillies based on the opposite of the personality they held. Hoping that the name they gave them intimidated the Skin Walkers and their corrupt-e. The SkinWalkers have been fighting ever since to steal the fillies and colts from the herd and destroy it from within. (Because going to war is just not good enough for them.)

Upon birth of Blooddrawer, who's name had to be witty being one of the very few Cerynei of her tribe, was a kind and gentle fawn-filly. Never hurting nor joining the females-warriors-in-training like her trusted sister and mother had. Instead she dipped herself into the healing arts of herbs.

When she was a filly, Blooddrawer was given the nickname Chase for her amazing ability on running from danger without being acknowledged. But before she could bound away one night, a colt Cerynei from a corrupted Tribemate breeding bumped into her one day. A string of events happened and they began to talk, and seek eachother out during a year of time. Until Chase would find herself waiting for her friend without him showing up. (She would know him by the name of Ozul)
Give or take 6 months, Ozul comes back bearing the pelt white wolf that draped around his shoulders. A symbolic item from her own tribe; it was her Uncle's pelt that he wore on days he guarded the tribe. It had been word that he had died a painful death a few days prior. In disbelief and shock Chase expresses her hate for him. He had drawn the blood of her tribe. It was a word Chase would have never said. She would never hurt another, physically. Ozul however was not hurt. He went after her and with that she was under him in seconds. In pain as she wretched under his wrath. With one soft spoken sentence he snapped back. She told him she loved him. And that what he did had broken her heart. With that she looked away from him, showing him her neck. At the sight of this her sister came to her rescue before Ozul could attempt his words the first time. She took him out by the neck and made him stagger into a sharp Guard-bar they set up around the tribe lands.
Watching him killed her even deeper. However she moved to him in still a daze. Unable to really grasp what had happened. It hit her when he spoke his last words of love. Days on end she would stare at the blood that drenched the grasses and fence mechanism. Crying inside, torn apart. But a week later her sister came over.

Draping over her shoulders a white wolven robe. Nosed her and apologized. It was then that Chase decided to leave the tribe behind. To go out and adventure on with her life. Those words on her heart; it would be hard to ever fall for another. But she had to be content with what happened. For in soul he was with her still.

Comments: (Yes I know she doesn't look much like a healer/herb doe :>;. But she grew up in a place where she had to dress like she was named.) Also, I am sorry for the messiness ;u ;.. I kind of doodle like my sister (Crazy Nerp-Sketches that look like she took a child and a crayon to it.. We're painters. Base drawings are just messy!)

Details: around neck; swampy twiney things, 1 black hoof, croc tail, crocish mane, few sharp teeth, pirate-like earring, and of course the cursed hand burned into him.

Was it inspired by a story? Based on the Crocodile from Peter Pan

Rough Description of Story:
The day started out like most upon the seas. Nothing to stop Hook as her schemed wickedly about Neverland and that Peter Pan. Little did Hook know though, that all his cast aside merry men, or slain lost boy drew the attention of some of the more primal forces amongst the waters. Sinister sure wasn't going to let such a great food source get free from his grasp.

Sure enough Hook lost his hand in a skirmish with the ageless boy and his once he tasted the corrupted(some might say cursed) flesh of a truly spiteful man, something changed within this croc. His grin crooked into a wicked curl, his skin darkened with the hatred only that pirate could have exuded, and all too soon the darkness that haunted the man above deck consumed the creature of the deep.

No longer did he grow hunger for just a body here or there, but Sinister Grinn wanted fresh meat, wanted them, wanted it all. In many ways, it was his new dark obsession with a hunger unlike any other living creature that drove him to madness, and drove the poor Captain Hook to an early demise.
All that is known now, is that there is a corrupted croc swimming in the waters of Neverland with a hunger that nothing living, or dead, can stop.

Comments: I apologize for it looking like crap(no tablet and um...no Photoshop). Feel free to continue the spine pattern down the tail. idk, it may look cool?

Was it inspired by a story? My friend pointed out that his story vaguely reminded her of Shrek and Gollum/Sméagol ... so I'll say this is a retelling of those stories just to be on the safe side.

Rough Description of Story:

What better way to keep pesky Soquili out of your domain than to make yourself as frightening and intimidating as possible?

Nero never really looked normal, what with his glowing yellow eyes and perpetually twisted smile. It didn't help that his markings seemed to glow in the dark and that his voice came out in a harsh rasp. Really, he never seemed all that inviting (not through any fault of his own, of course). Years of seclusion would turn just about anyone mad, and Nero was no exception.

Deep past the woods and at the base of the mountains, Nero stakes his claim upon a cave and its series of passages. Within the gloomy darkness glitters fabulous gems of all different colors and sizes. "Mine.... ALL MINE!" was Nero's trail of thought when he first laid his eyes upon the cavern. But... how to keep it safe from those tricksy trespassers?

After a handful of bloody murders and mutilations, Nero collected bits and pieces from various creatures and Soq he thought to be particularly frightening. With a large head fin, a lizard-like tail, claws, and a heart in a sling, Nero's costume was ready at last. With the help of a particularly twisted human, Nero donned his apparel. He then killed the human (just cleaning up evidence of course!) before going out into the world, hoping to create a reputation that would precede his presence and keep thieves out of his territory...

Oh, wait... I didn't tell you? There are no jewels in his caves... they are figment of his poor, cracked imagination.

Comments: Nero is supposed to be the funny and yet creepy sort of cracked. None of his parts are actually his... the head fin, the tail, the claws... this means that he can't really move or control them. So the trail drags when he walks and the claws are limp. ^_^ This is just a clarification, he isn't much of a mutant at all.

Was it inspired by a story? Not really..though it does have sort of a witch doctor theme, I suppose it could be inspired by that.

Rough Description of Story:

The Tale of the Witch Doctor

In a small village there lived a powerful and respected witch-doctor. He was the one everyone turned to for advice or for healing. He practiced the art of voodoo and could be found praying in his tent to the spirits daily.

It was a cold late autumn day when the mother of a young child came to the witch doctor in desperate need of a miracle. Her child was sick and would die without the help from only he could give her. She begged the doctor to save her child. The witch doctor studied his books and spells and finally came up with an elixir for the child, but it would take him 3 days to complete, for he had to go and find the ingredients.

He told the mother about the problem and she stood and cried, worried he wouldn't make it back in time. He packed what he needed and left immediately, setting out at daybreak on his journey.

Snow had fallen the night before, making his already treacherous journey even more dangerous, for his quest would bring him to the top of the highest peak in the mountains near his village.

The further he went up the mountain, the colder it got. Ice started to form on his clothes and hair. He pushed himself forward, not wanting to let the poor mother and child down.

It was nearing the end of the first day when he decided to rest for the night. He found himself some shelter under a protruding overhead rock and made a fire to warm up by. As he thawed, he chanted some protection spells to help him through the journey.

Morning came and he woke with the rising sun. He put out the fire and continued on his journey up the mountain. The path led him along a narrow rock ledge that he almost fell from, his feet just barely keeping grip on the slippery surface. Winds became almost intolerably cold the further up the mountain he went.

Around noon of the second day, he reached the top with many scratches and bruises and feeling numb from the treacherous and freezing ascent. The ingredient for the elixir he was looking for was a flower found to grow only at the top of the highest peak. This flower had magical healing properties about it. Many witch doctors had sought after this flower for rituals or to sell, but he only used his powers to help those in his village.

The flower was well protected by the spirits and guardians of the mountain. To even find the flower the seeker would have to pass three tests. The first was to crawl through a thicket of briars and thorns. There was no way to go over, under, or around, and cutting them only made them grow back thicker. The witch doctor being the intelligent man he was, decided instead of cutting them, he would move them out of the way. He used sticks and rocks to temporarily create a path through the thorny vines as he crawled on his belly to the center where the flower grew.

He made it through the thorns, with more scratches adding to the ones he already had. The second test loomed ahead. There were two pools of liquid side by side. One was a poison that would kill him slowly and painfully, the other was a protective remedy for the poison. If one pool was drank from, the other would disappear, leaving the drinker without the remedy if he had drank the poison. The witch doctor, using his intelligence again, bent to drink from one of the pools, draping his hair into the other, letting it soak up some of the liquid as he drank from the first pool. He immediately felt the poison start to eat at him, and quickly took the drenched hair into his mouth and sucked the liquid from it. His plan had worked. His hair had soaked up enough of the other liquid to save him from the poison.

With two tests passed, he moved onward to the third task. The third task was a stone engraved with runes. The witch doctor had to decipher the runes and it would lead him to the flower. The doctor had never before seen such runes. He didn't recognize them at all. He looked around for any clues and saw nothing he thought would help his dilemma.

He stared at the runes for a moment, taking in the general shape they were engraved in. It was then he started to notice that they were written in a way that spelled out the words: "Look below the surface." What could that have meant?

He searched around the stone for anything to help him understand this message. Below the surface of what? There was no other water nearby. It was then he noticed that the area around him was a circle. Any grass stopped growing and all the snow that had fell the night before hadn't touched the ground where he was standing.

Could it mean beneath the surface of the ground? He dropped to his knees and began to dig with his hands. The ground was soft even though he had just been standing upon it seconds before. He dug into a tunnel. He quickly dropped down into the tunnel. Behind him was a dead end, where apparently it stopped. In front of him he could see a faint glow. He went towards the glowing light. He had only gone a few yards when he came upon the source of this glow. It was the flower. It grew on a vine that had grown from the surface downward. The guardians and spirits of the mountain must have created this underground cave to protect it from those who would use it's magic for evil.

The witch doctor reached out and plucked the flower from the vine. It's white petals glowed bright in the dark cave, giving him light to look around. He could see bones and skeletons of those who had come before him seeking this mystical flower. He wondered why they had died, but he was still alive.
As if something had read his mind, a voice in the darkness called. "Only those of a good heart would have been able to pluck that flower from the vine. Go now and do your good deed." As soon as the voice was quiet, the flower stopped glowing and the cave began to shake. He ran from the cave and tunnel, escaping out into the fresh air.

He made his way home must swifter than the journey there. The snow had melted and he seemed to almost fly as he ran back towards his village. He liked to think that the guardians of the flower knew his mission and were helping him on his journey home.

The doctor made it back to the village in time to save the young child. He was forever revered as the best witch doctor in all the land.

((If there are references to other fairy tales in my story, I apologize for not giving credit to them. I came up with this all my own without researching anything. sweatdrop ))

Comments:
I've done a vague representation of his appearance due to time restraints.
Hair - spiky wavering lengths of orange and black with green, black, and white beads mixed in. The bead placement and coloration is up to the colorist.
Bone accessories - He wears the rib bones of small animals on his legs and back. Smaller sharper bones pierce the bridge of his nose and ears. He has two necklaces of fangs and talons around his neck as well as a string of sharp pointed bones around one back knee. A leather belt with bone spikes driven through it is tied around the top of his tail.
Other accessories - He also has a string of black beads around his ankle and many large voodoo pins sticking out from his neck and front legs.
