Under normal circumstances, Cas would count himself lucky to be allowed home. And home here meaning 'not in Hillworth'. This was really less home and more being 'allowed' to earn something working in his grandfather's hardware store. And that something was just figurative for sure; He never saw a dime for all the chores suffered through in this place.
So while grandpa was out, Cas found himself wedged comfortably in the leg space under the desk with a comic book, closed sign turned around, broom leaned against the desk like a flag announcing his laziness.
Sweeping the aisles can wait. It's the weekend, damn it. Between surviving Hillworth, surviving meeting his energy quota, surviving being in the negaverse in general, he figured he deserved a little time to just mellow out. Even if it required hiding.

Dad kissed the top of his head, which was his favourite way of saying goodbye, and then let Kail run his hands over his face, which was his favourite way of saying goodbye. They were supposed to be spending the day together, but then his work had called last-minute about something important, so then his Dad had called his Dad, and his Dad (he supposed the word was Grandad, but he hadn't met him yet, so he wasn't saying it yet, even in the privacy of his own head.) had said he could be dropped off at the hardware store to help his cousin (he could say that one because he could see someone through the hardware store window who he supposed was said cousin.) His Dad held his hand loosely as they walked to the door, and knocked rather loudly on the frame.
“Hey, you in there?”
Kail clutched a little tighter. It said closed. What if it wasn’t his cousin and was instead some kind of SCARY AXE MURDERER. I mean, a hardware store – imagine how many big, scary things were in-Ooooh, a hardware store! Imagine how many exciting things were in there! He bumped his Dad’s shoulder softly, an excited smile on his face. His Dad laughed.
“Be good for your cousin, okay?”
Kail nodded his assent.

The loud knocking made Cas jump, knocking his head against the bottom of the desk and sending the broom leaning against it clattering to the floor. With a groan, he held his head and crawled out to get his bearings.
Who the hell was that?
It wasn't grandpa, that was for sure. He'd just bust in and start yelling. But as he walked out of the back office he could very easily see a shock of pink hair and his... that... guy his mom told him to be nice to. Uncle? Alano.
He scuttled to the door and unlocked it to let them in, but greetings were not in his scope of abilities. These people were practically strangers and so they were met with wide orange eyes and a mouth pressed in a firm line to keep from making any embarrassing noises.
Let them introduce themselves first, he thought.

Kail was definitely not into introductions either. Nope. No. Noooooo. Thankfully (as otherwise the two of them would probably have stood there for a long, long time just hovering awkwardly and ignoring each other), his dad was much more inclined to introducing.
"Hello! You must be Cassidy! My sister's spoken alot about you - your mother that is. My name is Alano, though you can call me Uncle Alano or something else if you prefer. Nice to meet you. This is your cousin Kail, my son. He's kind of shy but he's a nice guy. You're about the same age though I think Kail's a little older even if he doesn't look like it. I have to go now due to work but you guys have fun, okay?"
His Dad had managed to bustle him through the door and then shut it again to keep the cold out and then introduce himself, grab Cassidy's hand and shake it, pat Kail on the head and then leave all in the space of one paragraph and without allowing for any other interruptions.
In a weird way, it was kind of impressive as well as terrifying. As the door clinked shut, Kail blinked and turned to look at his cousin.
"Ah.....Hi?"

Cas cringed when he was referred to as Cassidy. Now his cousin would know he had a girl's name. Because it's not like your family ever ends up knowing your real, full name or something.
Irrational as it was, it still bothered him.
Alano went on with the speedy, but acceptable introductions and was gone before Cas knew it, leaving him there in awkward silence. Have fun? Doing what, sweeping up and organizing screwdrivers? and he didn't even know this kid!
Though, with the way Cas stiffly stared like he was trying to repress a look of utter fright at the socialization, it was easy to see the family resemblance.
"...Hi."

Kail fidgeted awkwardly, tapping out what digits of Pi he could remember on his leg (his current record was seven hundred and eighty two for world Pi Day, but he didn't generally need that many day-to-day). This was awkward so awkward he didn't know him - he took a deep breath, closing his eyes and repeating the next seventeen digits of Pi very fast in his head. It was okay they were family family was safe.
Casting about his limited knowledge of social situations, he remembered his dad had said something about chores..?
"Would you like me to help with the chores that need doing? It is the least I could do after inconvenie-inconv-in-ec..."
He trailed off into stuttering and crunched his eyes shut before speaking again.
"being a bother.yes."

Cas didn't really consider Kail that much of an inconvenience. If anything, he was glad to have someone to spread the blame over when their grandfather came back and found things not quite to his liking.
"W-well... Uh..."
He cleared his throat but even after that, nothing really managed to come out but a weird little noise which must've been a word at some point that got muddle between thinking of it and speaking it.
"You can... uh... you can if you want," He ended up mumbling at a barely audible volume, and the awkwardly stiff standing there continued on unhindered. All day long. At least until some third family member finally arrived to save them both.
