The ocean waves crashed in front of the brown mare, her eyes set out upon the horizon. The sky was a light shade of blue, but the air was slightly brisk. The weather was changing, leaves began turning colors, it was rather beautiful to her. She had a small smile as her eyes closed, breathing in the scent of the ocean. Tolavan remembered her child hood being spent here, watching the waves, dreaming what was out far beyond she could even comprehend. The brown mare remembered she could spend hours at night, gazing up at the stars, wondering however so they had been placed in those exact spots. Her eyes reopened to look back at the beach, walking a little towards the water. A small wave crashed, sending its wave to crash against the tip of her hoof. How freezing the water became as the leaves changed!

Her hooves slowly began to sink as she stood at the sand beaches depths, turning around, the mare walked towards the forest. She wanted to see all the colors of the changing leaves, the way they became red and yellow before falling upon the ground. Her eyes were gleaming with smiles, this was her favorite time of the year. She couldn't tell if it was the cold air or the way the world became so colorful with all the yellows and red it received from the trees. The cool air brushed against her back as she headed towards the forest. A chill rushed through her body as she walked in silence. Wrapped up in her own mind, she began to walk along the grass, listening to the crunches along the way.

A cooling breeze cut across him, rustling his mane as it chilled him, but bringing with it the unmistakable salty scent of the sea. Memories of his childhood came flooding back, of growing up practically on the beach, flashes of his father's proudly arched neck and self-assured walk, of his mother silently walking with her familiar, caring but not very affectionate. Sights he had not seen for many years. It was almost enough to make him homesick, and feeling slightly out of sorts he tossed his mane and continued walking through the forest, not quite able to bring himself to head toward the beach.

After several minutes the nostalgia bothered him enough that he turned and headed toward the edge of the forest. He had nothing better to do with his time, and it was ridiculous that he was going to enjoy the nice ocean view just because it reminded him of his childhood. As he neared the edge of the forest he began to hear the somewhat familiar noise of hooves crushing leaves. A mare came into view on the outskirts of the forest. He could turn, and if she had not already seen him possibly avoid her, but it sounded rather rude even as he thought it. I might as well just go introduce myself, he mused inwardly. If this is her territory it will probably be easier to just have a nice introduction so she doesn't feel too threatened by a stranger.

He walked toward her casually, calling out when he got within easy hearing range. "Hello, I don't mean to intrude, just passing through." As he neared he began to make out the faint stripes on the mare, and a small smile crept onto his face. She looked somewhat reminisce of a seashell he had found as a colt, one of the rare shells that had washed onto the shore without breaking.

Tolavan's ears twitched as the stallions voice waltzed into them, her eyes darting towards the direction which the sound was coming from. Her stare was probably much ruder than she would have liked, quickly changing her frown into a smile. Though she had not seen the stallion any where, had she been so wrapped up in her own head she had left her guard down for anyone to sneak up on her like so? Annoyed with herself she mentally shook her head, my was she forgetting to keep her guards up! Her soothing voice broke the silence, "You almost scared me half to death!" A little laugh came from Tolavan, her steps finding themselves slowing as she was closer to him now. Dipping her head in greetings, a smile found her face once more.

"What brings you so far out here?" It was rare for anyone to come so far, unless one was coming to see the ocean. But the weather was so cold she was sure that no one would want to take the journey out here. The brisk air found itself sliding against her coat as she stood there looking at the stallion. He had stripes, much as she did. The whites and the dark browns, but what struck out most to her was his ears. The earrings that held themselves upon him, she hadn't met one with such things. In a way they were funny to her, but this was one thing she decided she could keep to herself. Her face flushed lightly under her brown coat, she hadn't introduced herself yet! How could she forget to do so before engaging someone into a conversation?

With another smile, she said, "My name is Tolavan, by the way."

He halted when they were still several paces apart, watching Tolavan as she neared. Her stare did not bother him, he was confident in himself and knew that she was just appraising the stranger who had approached, a fairly typical reaction whenever he appeared in strange territory. "I apologize," he said quietly, genuinely sorry for having scared the mare, though the following laughter and query told him that she would be fine, and he was not seriously concerned.

He offered his name in acknowledgement of her own before answering her question "I am Seiram, a traveler by nature. I was passing through the forest when a breeze from the ocean reached me."

The familiar scents coming from the beach were somewhat distracting however; scents really did spark memories. Some of his distraction bled through as he spoke, his eyes flickering between the mare and toward the ocean. "I grew up on a beach," he said, his voice slightly trailing off as he lost himself in thought.

Tolavan listened as he spoke, his voice booming with confidence. Her eye wanders upon his marking as he talked, but slowly found themselves looking back at him. She nodded and smile, "A pleasure to meet you Seiram." She smiled, though he seemed to be one of not smiling. This thought brought her back to Oliver, he never smiled either, though she hadn't been one for smiling until recently. Shrugging the thought off, her head looked back to the ocean. Her beautiful home, but had he said he grew up there as well?

Snapping her head back, Tolavan's mouth was ajar ever so slightly, "You say you grew up there?" No one grew up on the beach, no one she had ever met before. A silly thought ran through her head, she had believed for so long she had been the only one raised in such a place. Memories of her being a foal, alone with Chaser on that very beach. No wonder she thought that, she had never paid much attention to the others who might have come and gone. None the less, the beach was her home as well. In a way, meeting someone else who'd grown up on the beach was strange, but perhaps the shared similar memories.

Clicking her tongue, an awful habit she had learned to acquire, her soft voice came once more, "I grew up there too. Well, me and my adoptive mom did anyway. What about you? What was it like growing up for you?" She was so curious, what if he had grown up just like she had? Her mind was creating its own silly thoughts.

Her soft voice wove its way into his mind, focusing his thoughts onto the past. What was it like growing up for him? Any foal who grew up with two parents that loved each other as well as their children, and with no significant trauma should have had a wonderful childhood. At the beach daily, meeting strange creatures such as mers, a brother for a friend even though other soquili weren't about.

But it wasn't a perfect childhood. Having to hear from your parent's familiars that they loved and cared for you just wasn't good enough. Seeing your parents constantly squabbling with each other, even though their familiars swore up and down that they loved each other and it was "just how they were" was too much for a colt to really grasp.

He had been contemplating his family somewhat frequently lately, and buried insecurities and questions were still raw in his mind. And now here this mare was, someone he had just met, asking him about what growing up was like? He turned to look her square in the eye, a tiny amount of his typically buried rage surfacing as he snapped at her. "I really don't see how my childhood is any of your concern."

Tolavan's jaw dropped, had this random stallion really just snapped at her. Her ears flattened against her head, the mare began grinding her teeth. How rude for a stranger to come and snap at such a simple question! She snorted at Seiram, "No need to get so angry there, hot shot! I was simply asking a question, if it wasn't good just say so!" Her eye shot daggers at the stallion, did he think he was the only one to grow up a hard life? She didn't even know her parent's, let alone know how she even arrived on the beach! Tolavan's eyes looked away from the stallion, huffing she let her mind wander back to a night she'd never forget.

There she was, alone and fragile, she had run away from Chaser long enough to sink her hooves into the sand once more. Her frown had grown so much since she'd left the side of her 'mother'. The small fillies eye's were streaming tears as she screamed at the ocean. Mama, papa, where are you! Why did you leave me here! Why did you leave me alone! So dramatic it was, but her heart was screaming to the two people she loved most, but never saw.

Her mind snapped back into the moment with Seiram as she shook her head at him, "Why you think your the only one whose lived a hard life! By Go, snapping at a mare you know little about." With a huff she stomped her hoof upon the ground, how tempted she was to leave. Her ears stayed pressed against her skull, "I have half a mind to leave!" She figured he would probably care less, but her anger made her forget about everything.

Seiram flattened back as she started in, eyes flashing as she dared to lecture him. He opened his mouth to give her a scathing remark when she looked away for a moment. The lose of eye contact also succeeded in breaking up his angry retort. By the time she began talking again he was already starting to lose some of his angry edge, and when she angrily informed him she was tempted to leave he began to feel just a touch sheepish.

She was right of course, it had been a simple question. But his temper had always been something he had difficulties controlling. This small show was literally just a drop in the bucket, a scant few seconds of the rage, and he had never even fully lost control.

But the worst part was that he knew he was in the wrong, and he knew it was up to him to back down and apologize. And that was something he was loathe to do. His father's voice rang in his head.

"Now remember, you are sons of Ramses, the greatest stallion known to soquili. It is up to you to carry on our proud family. You are my sons, and therefore you have inherited some of my..." Khufu spoke up "amazingness my lord. I believe that term should be created just to describe your personage." Ramses grinned. "Yes, my amazingness. That means whatever you do be sure of yourselves, confident. Whatever you do, even if it seems like its wrong, must be right, even if it means the whole world is backwards."

Since leaving his parent's he had seen much of the world, and Seiram knew that his father's beliefs were bizarre at best. Still, it was a major blow to his ego as he dipped his head to the feisty mare in front of him. His voice had lost some of his usual confidence as he stated what needed to be said. "I have wronged you Miss Tolavan." He probably should have said more, but it was all he could manage at the moment.

She huffed again, looking at him. What was possibly so hard in this stallions life that he couldn't just be asked a simple question? Though in a flash, Tolavan felt a little sympathy for the stallion, there was more than likely a reason for his harsh response. Perhaps his past was harsh, in a way like hers was. The silence was almost soothing as her anger slowly slipped away and her ears began to listen to the wind surrounding them. A breeze blew her mane, tickling her neck. Maybe she should have gone, but his harsh reaction made her too curious to leave. He seemed like a challenge and she was tempted to see if she could crack him. Not in a rude way, but everyone needed to release anger.

Something odd began to tick in the stallions brain, or so she had assumed. Seiram looked lost in his thoughts, if only for a moment before apologizing to the brown mare. Her dark eyes rested upon his as she listened to his voice, though she cringed at his slight apology. Already so rude to someone she had just met, but he was apologizing. Coughing slightly, Tolavan looked away, "It's okay, I suppose. Though no one should hold back such amounts of anger"

She drew a line in the dying grass, smiling ever so slightly, "Built up anger makes one weak and their heart heavy you know." All to well the mare knew this saying, but she said no more. Her quick temper came from her first love, he was a pompous stallion, with nothing but a sharp tongue. Then, one day he left, without a word. Crevan has just left her, without a simple goodbye. That's when her temper gotten so bad, but ever since then she had been able to stand up for herself and express how she really felt.

Seiram tried not to show his relief that she was going to accept his somewhat poor excuse for an apology. He straightened his neck, though he no longer had the same confident air as when he had first arrived. He watched her with renewed interest, he might have just shown off one of his worst sides to the mare, but she seemed willing to let it slide. And she wasn't just some docile little mare that had let it go past unchallenged either, she actually had a backbone.

But then she spoke a saying about anger, and he was no longer sure how he felt. She could be patronizing him, or she could actually be trying to help. It was probably the latter he decided, as it someone who knew that statement so easily she had probably dealt with the same feeling. With his previous outburst he felt as though he owed her some sort of explanation, but he couldn't quite face the mare. Focusing his eyes on a tree just a little over her right shoulder and slightly to the side he spoke. "In truth my childhood did not deserve an outburst like that, its just," he paused, searching for what he wanted to say. "Being so close to the ocean brought up memories. I already had things on my mind when you asked me. Plus my temper occasionally gets the best of me," he added somewhat ruefully.

Tolavan watched the stallion diligently, how interesting people could be at times of new meetings. Not only had she snapped at the poor old boy, but she was afraid of scaring him. This was often a problem of hers, her quick temper often shot out to soon, causing others to be a little....well...afraid of her. She was always seen as one of anger and being considered emotionally unstable. A quick judgement she had come to assume. Her eyes fell upon the stallion once more, his posture made her smile slightly, he seemed at ease even with her snapping. Though, this purely meant she was not going to bite her tongue in anyway.

She raised a brow, but nodded politely. A little frown sat on her face as she let his voice fill her small ears, she wanted to press on about what could have possibly been so bad. On his outside looks, he seemed that it would have been a lovely childhood. Her eyes flickered from his, back to the ocean, her frown growing. She had become far to naive and forgotten looks didn't give away anything. When she looked back, her soft yet stern voice rang out, "Being bold here, I would have to say that your childhood could not have been so bad. I had a fair share of an awful childhood myself on that very beach. So no need to sugar coat the awful things that can come from that place." His temper comment made her smile, and even let out a partial laugh, "Me and you both it seems!"

Flicking her tale, she nodded her head forwards, "If you want, we can move away from the beach, or we ca go to the beach." She couldn't help but stare at him, what a unique creature.

Seiram could feel himself start to bristle as she told him his childhood could not be that bad, but he made a conscious effort to subdue the rage threatening to well up again, especially as she compared it to her own childhood. So neither of them had had a perfect childhood, and there were many reasons that hers could have been worse. He had never been physically abused, or purposefully tormented, and he knew that really his childhood shouldn't bother him as much as it did.

He gave her an appraising look, and noticing her scrutiny automatically drew himself up, arching his neck proudly and letting his confidence return. Yes, he had shown up and promptly made a fool of himself, but the mare seemed to be willing to still converse with him, and it had been a while since he had had a real conversation. He made up his mind and spoke, a small, rueful smile gracing his face. "Perhaps I should visit the beach, it might be better if I just go and face it. Tolavan was it? If you do not have other plans and do not mind going with me I would enjoy the company."

The brown mares eyes never strayed off the stallion before her, she watched as he seemed to hold...something back. Maybe she was wrong though, she was never good at judging ones emotions. A soft smile came upon her face as she let his mind fill with whatever he might have been thinking. Tolavan let the cold small breeze sweep across her once more before picking up her feet and turning towards the ocean. Though her life had been hard, being near the ocean hadn't given her the same unhappy feeling that Seiram seem to acquire being so close.

A very soft, but sweet voice found its way escaping her throat, "You have gained yourself a traveling companion good sir!" A small, little giggle came from her, a rare treat. Swishing her tail she began to walk, figuring the stallion would come up next to her. A thought shocked her mind as she let out a small gasp, "You know, I don't believe I've ever seen you around the beach. You say you grew up around there and so did I, but what part?" Her brow furrowed as she let the gears move inside her brain, "I know there are not many places on the beach, perhaps we were on different sides? Or am I that much older than you?" Her words came out almost like vomit, the more she thought the more curious she began to come. The brown mare noticed little o her words continuing to spill out with out her knowledge, but then silence filled her. Maybe there was a place of the beach that wasn't so good, and that's why the stallion hadn't liked it.

Being bold, her voice rang out once more, "You know, I am just a strange mare you just met, but if you wanna talk about that past of yours I'll tell you mine as well."

Seiram couldn't resist a small chuckle, laughter was contagious after all. As they were on the edge of the forest the trees allowed for two soquili to easily walk side by side, and he moved to walk next to her, though he was a consistent half-pace behind her so he would have time to adjust if she made any sudden turns.

Then she began to spew questions at him, and it was a bit hard to keep up. With an amused snort he waited until he thought she was finished to speak up. "I would never ask a lady her age, but I am not precisely young myself. As for what part of the beach I am from, I cannot give you a definite answer." He stopped speaking, and then realized his answer may have been a bit blunt. "Its not because I do not wish to, but it has been so long since I have been home that I do not actually know how to go back. It may be fairly close to this beach, or it may be on the other side of this forest completely. I have been traveling for quite some time." He looked up, watching with interest as the beach came into view before adding with a touch of bitterness, "there was no reason to stay there, and I have no reason to return."
