This was maddening, waiting on so many callbacks. For jobs, for places to live... But when you had no reference and no proof you could pay rent, it wasn't exactly easy. Half of the renters had asked for his parents' signature.
It wasn't like Joshua even knew anyone he could pass as his parents without them asking some major questions he couldn't - and wouldn't - answer.
Augh.
But still, there were other things, for once. Like clothing. Living on two sets of clothes got old really, really fast... So he had to get some clothing, at least. Try to settle in a bit more. He really could have done it alone, but well...
Well, it would be better with someone else. And maybe Quinn needed to get some shopping done, too ?
At any rate, they'd agreed to get something to eat first, and so he waited in front of the food court for her to show up.

Quinn showed up at the food court a few minutes after they had agreed to meet. She quickly managed to spot Joshua in the crowd of people- unlike Veer, she actually knew what Josh looked like when they agreed to hang out.
She wandered up to him and looked him over quickly. Were these the same clothes he was wearing when they powered down in her apartment after training? Apparently he wasn't kidding when he said he needed to go shopping. She grinned at him, broad and lopsided- her demeanor as Quinn was a thousand times different than that as Leto. As Quinn, she wasn't his superior and she sure as hell wasn't out to train or protect him in a shopping mall.
If Josh thought it was hard finding a job and a place to live with his real identity, imagine how hard it would be when you have to make up your name and entire life. Yeah, that wasn't a fun time for Quinn.
Her stomach growled rather loudly and she looked around the foodcourt. "Any preference?"

Joshua managed to spot her quickly enough, once she started coming his way - and walked the last few steps that separated them. And yes, those were indeed the same clothes.
Thankfully clean, but still the same clothes.
He hadn't been kidding. At all.
"I like italian." He shrugged - Italian or anything else, as long as it was edible, really, he'd go for it.
Teenage garbage disposal ?
Joshua has no idea what you're talking about.

"Italian it is!" She said, grabbing his arm and practially dragging him to the Italian fast food restaurant. It was a good thing that she needed to stay in shape as Leto so she actually exercised to work off all the food she ate. Food and beer, mmmm.
When the two of them had ordered, Quinn shoved Josh aside and paid for both of their meals, then sat at the nearest table. Shoving a mouthful of spaghetti in her mouth, she chewed quickly and swallowed.
"How's Veer treating you?" she asked before shoving another mouthful in.
She was the one that sent Josh to Veer when she found out he was homeless, the least she could do was pay for his meal and make sure everything was going okay.

Being dragged about was one thing - but being shoved aside and having her pay for his meal ? Well.
Um.
It seemed like he had little say in the matter, really, and Joshua stared a bit, before he just shook his head, getting his bangs out of his eyes.
He figured he could file that one under 'payback' and return the favor later.
"Im still alive." He said with a grin, as he was twirling his own spaghetti around his plastic fork. "Nah, it's... interesting, I guess, because we... manage space differently."
If Quinn saw his apartment, then she'd understand. This was the polite way to say 'IT'S A MESS, HOLY COW'.
"But im glad he took me in. I didn't really fancy sleeping on a park bench." Who knew if he had run into Fritz if he hadn't been able to start going to Horizon, really, so who knew if he could have taken the brown haired boy's offer.
And well... Veer was a better choice. If only because Veer knew, and Veer certainly didn't give a ******** if he powered up and darted out a mirror.

She laughed and nodded. "Alive is good. And somehow, I'm not in the least bit surprised it's interesting." She wasn't entirely sure if anyone else on the team knew that she and Veer hung out one on one at her apartment. And got drunk.
She decided that until she had a chance to talk to Veer, she'd just keep that to herself.
"I dunno.... I hear park benches are all the rage these days. I was thinking about trading my bed in for one, actually." She smirked and continued to eat her meal. When she finished, she absentmindedly wiped her mouth on the sleeve of her black hoodie.
Oh that Quinn Bennett - the epitome of class.
"Well hey, if you ever need to get away for a night, my mirror's always open." She winked at him.
"So... I won't pretend I don't realize you're wearing the same clothes that you were wearing last time. You don't smell funky though, so at least you're doing laundry... But you definitely need to add to your tiny wardrobe. Anything else you need besides clothes and some clean underwear?"
This entire situation was seemed so familiar to her. When she lost everything, Ares took her in and helped her out financially until she could get back on her feet. She wondered to herself if Dark Mirror Senshi would be doing this for generations after them.

Joshua certainly didn't, through he figured they'd met as civilians sometime, or else how could she had known to send him his way ?
He might have mourned the fact that he'd lost on free beer. Maybe.
He'd had others priorities at the time. Like escaping a forced flight back to Canada, for one...
"I'll keep that in mind, but im not responsible if I come in tumbling." A bit of an in-jokes at the many crashes he'd taken while training. "Im... getting better actually. Doing it often helps..."
Practice made perfect, the saying went.
"Uh, probably a computer..." The one at school were nice, brand new... But he couldn't do anything too sensitive on them. "Through im figuring once I get a job I'll get there... Clothes are the pressing problem." And the undies, yeah. "And i'll probably pick up another newspaper... Through I think if I spend another 3 hours staring at tiny black text, im gonna lose my mind." He was almost done eating, really, through his soda was barely touched.
Oh well, he'd finish it on the way.

"No worries. My bedroom's carpeted so the landing won't be too rough on you."
She sipped her soda while she waited for Josh to finish up. When he finally finished and they tossed away the garbage, she looked around the mall. She didn't have the first clue where to begin shopping for men's clothes. She figured she'd let him lead they way.
"You can use my laptop in the mean time if you want? I have a PC too, so it's not much of a loss to me. At least a laptop won't get in the way of Veer's mess."
She shoved her hands in the front pockets of her hoodie as they walked.
It was kinda nice, just walking and talking and shopping. Enjoying the company of a friend. Not patrolling and punching people in the face. Apparently she needed to be a little less Leto, a little more Quinn more often.

"How thoughtful." He said with a grin, tossing away his garbage but keeping the now halfway full soda. Joshua knew this mail well, and didn't hesitate in leading the way - he knew just the kind of store they might both like. He wasn't much for those fancy men's only boutiques, really, at least not for causal dressing.
It looked like his days of being dragged in fancy company gathering all clad in a tuxedo and tie were behind him, and he found he didn't mind too much. Really, as long as it was clean and decently put together, it was all that most seemed to ask of a teenager to begin with.
"That could be useful, through... Only if you don't need it. I'll take good care of it, promise." Really, if she'd seen him build robots she would have known how careful he could be.

"I promise I don't need it. I'm sure I could live with just one computer instead of two for a while," she grinned at him as they walked into the first store that he had chosen.
"Just text me Veer's address later and I'll come by with it. Or show up at my place, either works." She wouldn't be able to mirror-walk to Veer's apartment to deliver the laptop since she hadn't been there before.
she wandered through the store absently, picking up a few t-shirts as she walked. She wasn't the type for trying anything on, she just walked and grabbed and would buy things regardless. It was safe to say her taste as rather... Simple. Every once in a while her eyes would glance over at Josh as he shopped in the guy's section.
When she finished picking out a few things she liked, she walked back over to him. "Are you um..." she was trying to think of a nice way to word what she was trying to say. "Are you able to buy that stuff?" she looked at the garments he had in his hand. "I mean, I know you lost a lot, I can pay if you need it?"
She chewed on her bottom lip as she waited for his response.

"I can drop by later." Easier, really - he knew the way, and he could pass it as mirrorwalking practice, perhaps.
Joshua knew his size by heart, really. Whenever things got too short, that meant go one size up. While he was still on the short size, well, his parents always commented he was shooting up like a weed.
...Hopefully magical outfits magically grew. And didn't shrink in the magical wash. Or something.
It was her question that lifted his attention from the button up shirt he'd been eying. "Ah, well... I emptied my bank account." He said, voice a little lower. "I got to it before my parents could do anything about it... I should be fine, really."
The downside to being a minor - his parents could have cut him off, and he'd fully expected to be once he made his refusal to go back to the safety of home loud and clear. But the element of surprise had worked in his favor.
Really, Navi and Thule probably needed the help more than he did.

"Okie dokie!" She said and slapped him on the back in a friendly manner. "If you're in a rut between now and getting a job, don't hesitate to ask if you need anything, kay? Seriously, I don't mind at all."
Since she wasn't in school anymore, all she really did when she wasn't patrolling was work. And until recently? She really hadn't had any sort of friends or social life, so she hasn't spent any of her money that she'd made over the last few months besides on rent and food. That and she emptied out Kathryn Callaghan's bank account (which she'd admit had a ******** of money in it since her parents were supporting her from overseas) much like Joshua had done to his own.
Until Lydia and Kess were able to get out on their own, Quinn was happy to have them living with her for free.
"Got everything you need?" She peered at the stuff he had in his hands to see what he'd picked up. Clearly this guy liked button-ups!

"Hopefully that won't happen." He said, managing a grin. "But i'll keep that in mind, really."
It was part pride, and part thinking others would need the monetary support more than he did. The situation was slowly starting to become easier to process - the more he found himself in this new reality, the easier it became to adjust to it.
Button-ups and checkers, really. He'd always had a thing for button-ups and checker patterns. Really, heaven only knew what was going through his mind when he got dressed up in the morning, really.
"Yeah, I think im good..." Then, he seemed to spot something, and just grinned, tilting his head in the direction of the item that seemed to amuse him so. It was a camo-patterned skirt - not quite like Leto's, but...
"I think you're catching on." The amusement was very much there, but no one else would probably get it.

Spying the camo skirt that Josh motioned at, Quinn couldn't help but laugh. "Well I am a pretty fashionable girl, it was only inevitable." She looked down at her torn, faded blue jeans, dirty Converse high tops and a random band tee that she threw on before she left, under her plain black hoodie.
"Okay, so maybe Leto is the fashionable one of my multiple personalities." She stuck her tongue out at Josh and nudged him in a playful manner before making her way up to the register to pay for the random t-shirts she'd picked up.
She watched as the cashier rang up Josh's purchase. "So I hear you hate plaid," she teased.

"It's okay, my split-personality wears heels apparently." He made a face - clearly not a fan. This was said low, not so much out of fear of revealing something accidentally than to make sure no one over-heard and thought he was a cross-dresser or something.
Hey, when you took that statement out of context...
"What, who told you that ?" He said with some clearly off mock-affront. "My best guarded secret, Quinn ! You can't just go blurt that out to the whole world !" He pulled out his wallet to pay for his items. "Jeez..." He grinned as he took his bags and moved aside so she could pay up.
