Pokemon: Huntail [F]
Name & Level: Artemis , Lv 8
[Temperament] Brave
Bio: Born in the far off region of Hoenn, Artemis was once a Clamperl in possession of a family of Pokemon Traders. Her history beyond that is a mystery to Raven, and Artemis herself doesn't seem particularly inclined to recall it either.
The Water-Type came to meet Raven upon the fair grounds of the Hunter's Tournament, traded for a Rhyhorn the boy had caught during his entrance into the Tournament itself. Providing a Deepsea Toothscale he'd obtained during the events on Mirage Island for the trade, the Clamperl Artemis once was would be transformed into that of a Huntail...something she was quite shocked to discover upon waking up in the Valley of Strength.
Taking the pond hidden in one of the valley's caves as her domain, Artemis has been dubbed the lands official Berry Guardian and Caretaker.

Pokemon: Skarmory [M]
Name & Level: Crowe, Lv 7
[Temperament] Quiet
Bio: Crowe was first encountered upon the second ring of Beginner Island amidst a crater. With wings that shimmered like steel, the bird no less landed upon the ground and challenged Raven to a duel directly. Battle fiercely against Genn, the conflict seemed to take an eternity as the two near immovable objects clashed. With a swift hand, Raven was able to throw a single PokeBall and capture the bird...with a slight chase soon to follow. Struck by the ball in the air, the capsule soon flew over the side of the crater, forcing Raven to pursue it by sliding down the side upon Genn's back. During the process of which the boy encountered a Sneasel...and soon both he and it were hanging off the crater by a branch. After a struggle and much dramatics, Raven was able to retrieve the ball, and save the little Dark-Type he had accidentally placed in a perilous situation. Since then Crowe has shown a strong sense of honour, reacting to nearly every battle as if it were a duel with that very thing on the line.

Shortly after the elimination of the Strike Student Trix's Meinfoo, Crowe too met oblivion at the hands of the girl's Magmar. His body burned down to cinders, an egg would form from the ashes due to the ability of Team Legacy's Guard Student. Reborn from the egg soon after, Raven gave him the same name he'd held in his previous life. Yet the experience of his death has changed the Skarmory. The memory haunts him, sending chills down his spine...the Skarmory has rarely spoken since the initial squawks at his rebirth.

Pokemon: Zorua [M]
Name & Level: Requiem, Lv 7
[Temperament] Bold
Bio: During his rather lengthy adventure within the aether, Raven encountered a sight most odd. The forms of three Ghost-Type's surrounded by mist and wielding instruments; at their center standing a lone Zoroark with a microphone. Instead of fighting, the four Pokemon joined together in melodies most haunting; and when the performance had reached its end, the musicians shifted, the air glimmering about them as their forms disappeared, revealing a group of four rather unique Zorua. Requiem had been the lead singer of this group, and despite a lack of combat with the creature had left a rather distinct impression upon the child. Thus when Regal offered them the chance to obtain any one Pokemon they had encountered upon the island, Raven chose the little black fox. He knew nothing of Requiem's combat ability, but he had witnessed the signs of a leader, and the potential for so much more!
Upon his first release into the world outside the aether, the Zorua declared this and all too follow his first 'Solo Tour', and that he was going to rock this world!

It was on the shores of Iron Island Requiem met death against the Magmar of a Strike Student named Trix, a member of the self named "Team Legacy". Though the Zorua had proven his strength, plowing into his opponent with devastating power, gusto on it's own didn't prove enough to save him from the Magmar's Focus Blast.
Saved by the ability of the team's Guard Student, Requiem was reborn as an egg; and once hatched managed to retain a patchwork of his old memories. The memory of his own demise especially is something he feels will forever mark his soul.

Pokemon: Cacnea [F]
Name & Level: Rozalinda, Lv 5
[Temperament] Impish
Bio: Rozalinda came to Raven in a dream...quite literally. While venturing through the realm of dreams Raven encountered a series of several Cacnea. While the other two had challenged him to contests based primarily on skill and luck, Rozalinda had made a challenge based on pure brute strength. Arm Wrestling. Spewing words as prickly as her appearance the Cacnea eventually lost at the hands of Fable; however once the chance to obtain one of those he'd faced the 'Dream World' arrived Raven already knew his choice. Although she had lost the confrontation, the Grass-Type had proven herself a fierce fighter at least in spirit. Greeting him with thorny words upon their reunion the young trainer dubbed her "Rozalinda" likely understanding how such a 'girlish' name would erk the Cacnea.

Dust rose from the ground and scattered into the air with each of Raven's steps. Desolate. This place was devoid of water, devoid of life...there wasn't even any grass. A place where only the strong would be able to survive for long...it was perfect. Everything in life needed water in truth, so he would have to provide it at some point...but still, these harsh, unforgiving lands were perfectly suited to his needs.

Though he wasn't likely to use it for some time, the boy felt the need to do at least one thing for the future inhabitants. Wandering around, the boy eventually came across a small, natural grave...more like a large hole in a series of rocks if you wished to get technical. Though small, it was the perfect place for one to take shelter.

Releasing Fable for a time, the two began collecting large stones and placing them around the entryway, forming a sturdier, more easily defended doorway. He even took the time to create a lip to the entrance, meant to stem the flow of water should by some bizarre twist of nature the place should ever see flooding.

That small effort completed, the boy quickly turned, recalling Fable and making his way to class. There was work to be done if he wanted to grow stronger...

Dust would rise from the earth as Raven's boots struck the dry, cracked ground, producing an audible clomp. These lands were as desolate and unforgiving as he'd remembered them...and that remained the reason they were the perfect training ground. No creature could help but become more powerful here; it was either victory, or death.

Taking each ball off of his belt in turn, the boy would release his Pokemon, revealing to them their new home for the first time...the second in regards to Fable.

Crowe clacked his beak sharply as the sight of the place. Desolate, dead...it was a rather homey actually. The crater hadn't exactly been overflowing with life after all. Each creature had struggled to survive, hiding in burrows or fighting among one another for the smallest scrap of territory. Yes, this place would do nicely. Open lands which stretched far...only the most skilled burrowers could hide from him here, and the glare of the sun against his feathers would keep any opponent from sighting him before it was too late.

The Skarmory cawed in approval, then with a run and a skip, took to the air. He wished to survey these lands...after all, he was now master of it's skies!

Genn simply rumbled at first. This land wasn't particularly interesting, nor exciting...but it had it's perks. Unlike the cavern he could move freely here, and in truth they were still in his element. The land was tough and hard, not a plant or stretch of water in sight. The earth remained the only place to travel, above or below, and he was surely the master of the later.

Briefly, the Steelix would slam his tail against the ground, causing it to shake. Yes, this would do.

Requiem was slightly less...enthusiastic about the new digs. They weren't nearly flashy or epic enough for a musician of his calibre...for any musician really. To be frank, this place was bleak. They'd need to do some major redecorating!

">Alright, we'll put the stage over their lads, build a big old echoing cavern behind it ta carry the music...<" The Zorua would immediately begin skipping around, giving instructions to the reconstruction of this place which not a single being was listening to.

Raven and Fable would leave the group, heading for the small cavern the boy had originally constructed as shelter. Amazingly the place had held in his absence. Well, it was hard, dark, and potentially unstable...but it would do. Lying down upon the earth, his cloak used as a blanket and arm as a pillow, the boy would fall asleep with the Charmander close at his side. He was well aware from the time they'd spent together, that the Charmander made an excellent 'Space Heater'.

As Raven fell into the grips of slumber, so to, one by one in their own way, would fall into a sleep of their own. Genn would burrow beneath the earth, sealing the entrance by causing a cave in of his own tunnel. Crowe would perch upon Raven's 'cave', amazingly the structure still manage to hold beneath the bird's weight. Requiem would do the simplest thing...sneak into Raven's cloak, and leech the boy's warmth for his own. Though such barren places were hot during the day, they became almost frigged at night.

While the youth and his Pokemon slept, a feat most strange would occur. The earth would roll, fresh soil from deep below ground filling in the cracks of the dried earth. Plants would begin to spring up from the depths, and although they were nothing particularly special, the most amazing thing was simply that they grew.

Like two immense tidal waves, the ground would shift and rise, forming into two separate caverns as they crashed back into the ground. The land had taken a turn most dramatic compared to those others whom shared this blessing...perhaps because these lands had been among the most forsaken of places.

The earth had felt the presence of the Titans power, and had reacted accordingly. No place touched by even a little of Regigigas would remain dead for long.

When Raven at last stirred, it would be to find himself sleeping upon a bed of moss, recently grown and soft to the touch. The cavern around him had solidified, each crack between the rocks having disappeared as if they'd been fused together into a single mass.

Exiting the dwelling to inspect the rest of the land, Raven would soon see the dramatic changes which had occurred. Trees had not spontaneously sprung to life, nor did a river suddenly run through his territory abruptly, but the changes were dramatic still. The land had become more vibrant during his slumber. Cacti now grew, tall and strong, with numerous bright buds of red and white. Wildflowers of the more resilient varieties now grew low to the ground, surrounding the base of various shrubs. A tumble-weed even rolled by as the boy took his next steps!

It wasn't much, but the land had certainly become a touch more alive!

Then he would notice them, off in the distance yet still not too far from his own. The two caverns which seemed to have sprung up not far from his own. The first was immense in size, it was almost like a miniature fortress. The mouth to the cavern was tall and wide, but lined with sharp stones which would prevent a quick entrance; even flyers would have trouble given the spires which hung from the ceiling like jagged teeth. The place itself was dark and cool, moss lining much of the walls and parts of the ground. Stones littered the place, set up haphazardly, yet all seemed perfectly flat and smooth like beds. It would provide the perfect shelter for Pokemon...even a certain Steelix.

Next was the second cavern, much smaller then the first, but still larger then the one he had constructed himself. Inside would be the greatest abundance of life Raven had witnessed in these lands. The walls were lined with a much thicker lichen then the other caverns, the ground producing small outcroppings of grass. The soil was rich and luminous...and the reason would soon become clear. Toward the back of the cavern was a large pool of water...though upon closer inspection it was muddied and brown. Ground Water. Tainted, the normally life giving fluid would not be able to sustain any sort of existence, be it plant or Pokemon...the water provided something else however. Aided by the rush of air from small cracks in the ground, the air was cooler here, providing a soothing breeze which readily spread to wherever the wind would carry it from here. Small cracks in the ceiling provided a degree of sunlight, though it wasn't nearly as harsh inside as it was without.

All in all, it seemed an ideal place to grow and tend to berries...if only the boy held such aspirations. Besides, he had neither the means to water nor tend to the plants while away from this place...best a thought left for a later date.

While the Trainer had gone about his investigation, his Pokemon had gone about business of their own. Genn was busy carving a comfortable spot for himself in the larger of the Caverns, while Crowe had gone about constructing himself a nest made of cactus branches, flowers, and sharp rocks; the birds were rather well known for bedding most painful to any other creature.

Fable in the mean...was running from a certain Zorua, the little Dark-Type scampering about and attempting to convince the Charmander to aid him in his musical endeavours.

Once his Pokemon had completed their individual endeavours, the boy would recall them all. He had no need nor reason to leave any of them behind...and to do so would likely come with some consequence. Survival would be a bit easier here, but there was still neither food nor water.

There were other matters they needed to tend to now...as Raven would make his way back to the classroom.

The moment his boots touched upon his own land, the Pokeballs of both Genn and Fable would fly from his belt, releasing the two Pokemon to go about their own business. The absence of a certain Skarmory and Zorua would be noted almost immediately, however the Steelix would be quick to dismiss the fact, while Fable would simply put all his trust in Raven as he did constantly; as if the child was all but infallible.

Raven himself would march quickly to the smallest of the three caverns upon his land. Lying upon a flat rock, he would curl up with both the eggs and his cloak, and promptly pass out. He really didn't care how hard the rock was. Ever since his youth he'd always gone for a nap when ticked off and the option was available. A simple thing, but it worked rather well to dismiss his anger.

Though in hindsight he was going to need to acquire something proper to sleep on...maybe he could find a Pokemon large enough to skin for the fur...

...Then again anything large and furry enough would likely be rather powerful...

The day started early for Raven, after all he had gone to bed rather early. Thus the last son would rise with the sun, sword in hand almost as soon as he had risen from his makeshift bed. Fable wouldn't be given the chance to completely rouse before the boy would recall him, placing the Charmander's Pokeball into the empty spot in the pommel of his weapon.

In the next moment he would feel the change take hold of him. Purple flames would consume his body, burning away all that he was, and replacing it with something else. Like before his clothes would twist and transform, flames wrapping around him like clothe to complete the outfit.

It was an odd experience, like the transformation of some Saturday morning Hero series. He'd need to get used to that he supposed.

Fire would lick the blade of his sword as he held it aloft before him. He'd lost dearly in his confrontation with Excell. A single blow had devastated him, and it wasn't due to the man's impossible strength alone...

Feet striking the ground as flames burned the air, Raven would dance artfully about his land, swinging his blade about as he fought the shadows around him. He needed to adjust to this power, the master it before he had to use it again.

Time would pass, and with each swing of the child's sword the flames would grow hotter, flaring brightly with every swing of his sword until each strike was like a miniature inferno. All the while something would itch at the back of the child's mind, like he was forgetting something, a memory repressed or a thought not quite conscious.

Each swing of his sword released more heat, more flame, as if trying to build into something more, something he wasn't yet allowing it to be...

With the sun blazing brightly overhead, an urge would suddenly overtake the boy. An unrelenting cry in his mind as he rose the blade high overhead, set ablaze with purple flame tipped by white. His eyes seemed to ignite as the words touched his lips "...PURGATORY FLAAAAAME!"

Fire would surge forward sword as he swung it, twisting and building as it drew closer to it's invisible target. The flames would roar like some terrible beast, taking the shape of a immolated dragon as they arced through the air.

Flaming jaws held open wide, the white hot inferno would crash into the ground, burning a faint pattern into the ground. A pentagram.

Yes...he understood now. This was why he had failed. He'd gained the power of flame, but before he had not yet truly understood it. One didn't control an inferno, they simply gave it direction. He was never meant to master it, but to become apart of it. His was a purging flame...one meant to burn away the sins of this world...

---------------------------

Hours would pass, and Raven would continue training. By the time the sun set the ground would be riddled scorch marks. Rather then draining him, the intense sunlight seemed to invigorate him, adding power to his attacks.

He supposed that was simply the nature of being a Fire-Type...

When at last darkness fell across the valley of strength the boy would lower his sword, releasing Fable. Lacking anything proper to really eat, the boy would use his sword to cut down and chop up one of the cacti surrounding his humble dwelling. Clearing the barbs and cooking it over Fable's tail flame.

It wasn't a food source which would suffice in his absence, but it worked for now at least...

Once his stomach was full...or at the very least couldn't handle any additional cacti, the boy would once more return to the smallest of the three caverns and sleep. He hadn't bothered tending to Genn, the Steelix was more then capable of feeding himself for the time being...the Pokemon's kind ate rocks and soil after all....

--------------------------

The sun had set, and eventually it would rise once more. Another day had passed. Sufficiently rested, the boy would recall his two remaining Pokemon, and with the two eggs of Crowe and Requiem bundled upon his back, he would return to the classroom.

He'd gotten used to this new ability of his...now it was time to get some real training done!

The moment Raven returned to his land the work would begin. Gathering what wood and grass he could find...which more often then not turned into dried cactus and a tumbleweed...the boy would make a fire pit upon the cracked earth, using Fable to start it. Then gathering the meat, the boy would begin cooking it. He lacked the means to properly preserve it for long, so it was best to eat as much of it as they could manage now and hope the leftovers lasted long enough to be consumed...besides, counting himself he'd be feeding four. No doubt the leftovers would be consumed quickly.

Leaving the Charmander to tend to the cooking...with the only specification being "Don't burn it" then boy would then attend to the more difficult matter. Tanning.

Stretching out the hides as wide as they could go, he would pin them to the ground with a series of sharpened sticks; which unfortunately he'd been forced to gather from elsewhere. Once stretched out properly he'd been coating them both thickly with the salt. The most basic part of this little project was to dry the skins...normally a process which took around a month...in the presence of the wastelands sweltering heat and the nearby cooking fire, it would take him a little over a day to do. Most of which the child had spent in the shade of the caverns.

Once this process was finished the boy would soak the skins in the ground water pond of one of the caverns. While not clean enough to drink, it performed the job of removing the salt admirably.

Next the liming...the use of the acid to remove access fat, dead skin, and any undesirables left upon the hide. Of course this process would prove slightly trickier as he desired to keep the hair on one side of the Girafarig hide. He had no plans of using the pattern of the fur for some sort of design with the bag he intended to make, but rather for the reverse side. It would likely aid in the warmth of any eggs he picked up in the days to come...

As further hair remove was unnecessary the boy would then move on to de-liming...the process of neutralizing and removing the acids used upon the hides.

Lastly the boy would make use of the remainder of the salt.

Once the hides were completely he'd go about the process of sewing them into the desired objects. A process he found quite a bit more difficult in the end. He only knew enough sewing to stitch holes in his clothes...now he was working with leather of all things.

Still, with a little luck and a bit of trial and error, the boy would manage to transform the Seviper hide into a crude scabbard for his wide bladed sword, along with a matching sword-belt; the former of which he'd chosen to decorate with the the Seviper's own fangs...at least to the untrained eye.

Wrapping thin straps of the leather around the broken ends of the fangs, and securing them to the scabbard, he'd turned them into something of a weapon. Not exactly a dagger, and certainly not nearly as useful in combat as his sword, the Seviper Fangs would no doubt come in handy in situations where he sword proved to big.

The Girafarig hide he'd turned into a satchel. Small then the Seviper, the boy had tossed aside any complicated patterns involving numerous pockets; instead choosing a simple design with one large base pocket, a second on the outside for more delicate items, and a long thick strap.

Admittedly he'd come up a bit short on the strap, but it was good enough. Certainly better then what he'd been using before now.

Once his items were transferred over to the new satchel, his sword properly sheathed, and the belt properly secured, the boy would recall his Pokemon and prepared for his departure. The process of tanning and sewing had taken him a little less then three days. A miracle or a bizarre plot device he couldn't be certain...but it was convenient. His Pokemon were well rested, and the meat he'd secured had lasted just long enough...though perhaps the piece he'd consumed for breakfast had been a little past due.

Trying not to focus on the prospect of that for too long, the boy would leave his land behind him. It was time to return to class...or rather arrive for his new one...

Dirt would rise into the air as a pair of weather worn black boots stamped across the wastes of the crater, a figure clothed entirely in red and black striding across the lands towards a set of three caves. The boy passed cactus, desert flowers, and the occasional tumble-weed passed him by as he stepped upon the dried yellow grass grown in his absence. It would seem his new Huntail had been busy, spreading life giving water to the area.

Raven surveyed his lands with a slow turn of his head, red eyes scanning the groves and cracks of the ground for signs of change. Indeed it seemed the place had changed during his absence.

Briefly his hand would trail over the right side of his belt, tapping each of the PokeBalls resting in turn. For some of these Pokemon it would be a homecoming...for others it would be a welcoming...but first he needed to visit a resident who hadn't been given a proper introduction...

With that in mind the youth would head in the direction of one of the lands three caverns. Middle among the triad it was the sole cavern to contain any sort of growth on it, the outer cracks and edges of the mouth filled with moss. The inside of the cavern itself was cool and damp, a hole in the ceiling providing illumination. At the cavern's far side sat a pond, ounce muddied and filled with ground water, the surface now contained a layer of scum, the patches of water showing through now blue and clean. No doubt the efforts of a certain Water-Type sprucing up her new home.

Speaking of that Water-Type, a large toothy blue maw would poke out of the pond as if summoned by that very thought. ">HALT! Who goes there!?<" The Huntail barked, her voice rich and mature with hints of a rasp ">I did not clean this pond so some human could wander in and drink!<"

"I am Raven Illiaster Phoenix, owner of these lands, and as of recent events your Trainer" The boy stated firmly, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword and narrowing his eyes at the Huntail.

Briefly the Pokemon's spaded tail would lash out from the pond's depths. ">Prove it!<" She demanded, round eyes narrowing back at the boy.

Her response would come in the form of Raven producing a PokeBall, recalling the Huntail and then releasing her back into the pond.

For a moment the Water-Type would float there in stunned silence. Well she had asked him to prove it...and...well...that certainly proved it. If nothing else it certainly meant he was her new...

The Huntail's eyes suddenly crossed, her tail flicking to one side. She'd asked him to prove it...and he had! >You can understand me!?<" She screamed in shock, wide mouth hanging agape as she stared at the by in amazement.

"Yes, I can...Artemis" Raven stated plainly, choosing to tag the Huntail's new name onto the end. It seemed the easiest way to introduce the label to her. Much easier then going on to explain that which she could now figure out on her own.

">Artemis?<" The Huntail asked back, her voice faint and eyes slightly glazed while her mind wrapped itself around the boy's words. ">I like it<" She at last said with a sharp nod of her head, her tail tip poking out of the water.

Twisting her lithe form, the Huntail would look back at her own body. Speaking of a tail ">What the heck happened to me?<" She asked. Obviously the Water-Type was still a little confused about the changes to her body. She'd gone in a Clamperl, but when arriving here it was as a Huntail and no explanation for it.

"I had the necessary item, so when receiving you from the Traders I had them evolve you" The boy said calmly. It had seemed a practical, not to mention worth while decision at the time. How often would he get a chance to make such a trade which acted in his favour?

">I don't like it<" Artemis stated abruptly, wide mouth snapping shut and turning into a scowl ">I'm all squishy now...I want my shell back!<"

"You'll get used to it" Raven would reply, crouching down in front of the pond "There's no going back now, but your stronger like this, and you will grow stronger still." After he was finished speaking the child would reach into his bag, pulling free the Lum Berry which he'd kept stored in one of the better protected pockets. Digging a hole near the pond with his fingers the child would place the berry inside, then cover it with the soft loamy soil he'd unearthed "In the mean time I want you to watch this berry and others like it. Tend to them, watch them grow...and as they do, know that you are growing alongside them" Raven instructed, his voice calm and soothing. It almost sounded like he was giving her a piece of sagely wisdom rather then asking her to water a berry while he way away.

To those words, Artemis would only be able to manage an ">Ok<" Before disappear back beneath the surface of the pond.

Once she was gone Raven would pull a small something else he'd collected. Honey taken from a Combee back in the Aether. Removing a glove the boy would dip his hand in it, spreading the honey around the area where the plant would grow. Doing so was said to summon Bug-Types to the area...some whom were said to aid in a Berry's growth.

After this act was complete the child would wash his honey soaked hand off in the pond, then depart to the larger cave. It was time to release the others...

Cloak fluttering slightly as the breeze kicked up outside, Raven would enter through the wide mouth of the largest of the three caverns upon his land. Dark and cool, this seemed a more fitting place to release his Pokemon rather then the desolate wastes of the outside.

Hand moving across the balls upon his belt, the boy would tap each one at a time before grasping the first and releasing the creature contained inside. Immediately after he would grasp the second...then the third...repeating the process one after the other and releasing each of his Pokemon. Turning his attention first to his two latest arrivals, the boy would gesture to the area around them "Welcome to the Valley of Strength...Welcome Home" He greeted, not quite managing to keep his voice naturally warm.

Stretching his arms wide, Diabound would give a rather exaggerated yawn before leaning forward and crossing his arms over the top of his mask ">It's alright<" He stated bluntly, half lidded eyes looking about unimpressed. You've seen one cave you've seen em all Was his only real thought on the matter. Given his 'history' he'd spent more then enough time in caves, tunnels, ruins and prison cells.

Gliding over to the side the Yamask would sweep his own mask behind, laying in it like a hammock. Slowly the mask would swing back and forth, Diabound crossing his arms behind his head as he began to dozen off. The ghost's slumber would be announced clearly by the sound of a mask clattering against the stones.

Once the spectre had fallen asleep only his mask physically remained.

West seemed a bit more intrigued by their surroundings. The cave wasn't quite as big as outside or the auditorium the awards ceremony had been held in, but it was still huge far as he was concerned. More so it was a cave! He'd never actually seen a cave!

Bounding across the rocks and catching the echo as one stone bounced of another, the Riolu would grin. Cupping both paws near his mouth, the Fighting-Type would begin to yodel loudly, grinning wide as the sound bounced back to his own ears.

">Oi oi! Quit 'at hollerin! If ya wanted sum music all ya 'ad ta do was ask!<" Requiem would bark, and within moments the Zorua was atop a large flat rock, dancing about it as if it were his own personal stage. His voice rang clear in the cavern....a shame no one appeared to be listening.

Crowe and Fable had wandered out into the sun, the curious West following soon after. Genn on the other hand followed the beckoning Raven. First the boy had to attend to the Pokemon Food he had purchased, storing it in the primary cavern where it could remain cool and dry. Then as a second point the boy would guide the Steelix to one of the crater walls.

Whilst selling the various items he'd obtained at the Tournament to the PokeMart, the child had discovered something. He knew not from whence it came, but a large kit had appeared in his bag, the contents a series of different mining tools. With these it would be possible for him to excavate for various items buried deep beneath the soil...but first he'd need an opening to do it in. That was where the Steelix came in.

It would take several hours, but with the aid of Genn Raven would manage to carve out a small cavern in the side of the crater, adding beams chiselled from solid stone to reinforce the ceiling. At least the entrance to the future mine wasn't likely to collapse...

Once the work was done Raven would return to the rest of his Pokemon, distributing the leftovers he'd swiped from the banquet to ensure everyone got a proper meal.

After which as the sun set and the temperature dropped, the boy would return to his own modest dwelling and promptly pass out. He really needed to properly furnish the place one of these days...

With the breaking of dawn Raven would rise, and with him would be Fable. Unsurprisingly with their time together before and after his entry into the Academy, the Charmander had adopted a similar sleep schedule. The same could not be said for his other Pokemon however...Requiem and West both slept sound and hard, only the mornings light after dragging them out of the cave was able to rouse them.

Once his Pokemon had awakened and gathered, save for Artemis, Raven would begin "I've decided to leave the majority of you here in the Valley" He began, a declaration met with a number of complaints all around; it was for that reason the boy had gone and removed his PokeDex.

"Battles past have shown the folly of placing any of you in a fight you aren't ready for. Requiem, Crowe...you're still recovering...I won't risk your lives twice" Raven spoke a bit more sombrely, his eyes cast downward for a moment before continuing "West has yet to fight his first battle, and I want to be certain he's ready for it. Diabound..." Raven suddenly halted. Actually why was he keeping Diabound behind? Ghosts couldn't actually die and with four Pokemon staying on the land that left him with only two if he chose to leave the Ghost-Type behind.

"...Diabound is coming with me, along with Genn and Fable" Raven decided "In the mean time I want Requiem and West to spar and train by themselves. Crowe I have a different sort of training for..." The boy said as he gestured to the Skarmory, once more attaching the PokeDex.

Nodding Crowe would follow his trainer as Raven lead him across the crater to the mine entrance constructed by himself the day before. "In my absence I want you to dig. It should aid you in the precision of your strikes, as well as movement in more confined locations."

The Steel-Type would have only response. Cocking his head to one side he would squawk ">You want me to do this bare beaked?<"

"No. I have something for that..." Raven said, reaching into the kit of supplies hidden in the shadow of the caves mouth. From it the boy would produce a small metal cone with a harness attached which resembled something like a pickaxes head...mostly because it was. Obviously the tool had been designed with Pokemon whom lacked hands in mind. There was a number of such tools in the kit.

Fastening this to the bird's beak, the boy would then place a headband with a flash-light at it's center on Crowe's head. Considering the avian would be quite literally using his head, he didn't imagine the Skarmory would need anything else for now.

Nodding at one another, Raven would depart and Crowe would set to work.

Once he rejoined the other's the young trainer would recall Fable and Genn, taking the time to hide the rest of his teams balls beneath a rock in the main cavern. During some of his free time when tanning the leather for his belt, the child had carved out a number of holes large enough to fit a Pokeball in the underside of various stones. Just in case unwanted visitors came to the land in his absence.

"I'll be leaving Diabound to train here for the time being. I'll return before the start of my next mission" Raven called over his shoulder, though he wasn't certain anyone was listening. With Charmander and Steelix under his belt, the boy would ascend the crater's edge and head off in the direction of the Mirage Arena. There was something he absolutely needed to do before his next mission...

Soon after Raven's departure the surface of a certain pond would ripple, algae being pushed aside as a wide shape fanged mouth emerged with a yawn. Blinking sleep from her eyes, the Huntail would look at the berry the boy had planted...she'd been asked to tend to it, and that meant watering it. No better time to do so then before the sun reached it's peak.

Diving back into the bone the Huntail would begin swimming in circles, the water around her beginning to funnel as she whipped up a Whirlpoo!

Water slopped over the edges as the vortex grew more violent, sinking into the soil almost immediately. Only when the area was thoroughly drenched would Artemis cease her efforts, thoroughly pleased with herself.

Elsewhere steel struck stone as Crowe worked away at the mine, scooping dirt away with his wings as he began putting a dent in the wall before him. Just what was it he would find?

The water would seem to turn towards rain ....as the water would splash the ground with big wet drops. This was something that would be quite surprising considering the area .....dry and hostile. Rain was a gift ....as something would be following the pattern of the rain ..something that dance and swift and prance ....as it would spin around around around as she sang.

(Rain Rain ...come again ....I love to be wet ...oh rain I love ya)

It wasn't on tune in the least as she twist and skates along the path of the rain was carving into the area. One foot up as she would skid to a halt in front of the small mount of dirt that would eventually become a Lum plant ...as she spew a few bubbles around it's base.

Surskit would leave them around the base .....two bubbles of water, they would pop as the ground need moisture. The rain already serving to make sure that there would be a less chance for death in this area as she would start to skate away following her own personal rain cloud.

(+2 water & -1 plant death)

The Huntail would watch the Surskit come and go. There were certainly some very odd Pokemon out there wasn't there?

Day would turn to Night, and Night to Day once more. As the sun rose the Huntail would form another vortex, allowing water to slop over the edge of the pond and drench the little seedling. Now she only had to watch...and wait...

Elsewhere Crowe continued to peck away at the rocks. He'd noticed the rain passingly, but it made little difference to him. Raven and Genn had the foresight to give the mine entrance something of a lip. Rain wasn't likely in this place, but not impossible. Thus he continued mining throughout...

The dawn of another day, and once more Artemis would rise with the sun. Flicking her tail, the Huntail would rise up from the deceptive depths of the pond, spiralling while she did so. Swimming in circles, the Water-Type would rapidly form a vortex....a whirlpool which sloshed water onto the berry plant placed near by...not to mention kept the water clean and drinkable.

-------------

In the valley's mine, Crowe would steadily peck away at the rock wall near the entrance. He'd managed to make some good progress in the last few days, creating the start of a small tunnel into the crater wall. It was surprisingly easy going...neither roots, soft soil, sand, or the fear of striking water bothered him in this place. In fact, he had the strangest feeling today was the day he'd find something.
