It took only a minute or so for Nithis and William to arrive at the cottage from the palace. Spotting a gather of large trees and rocks just away from the house, the dragon king ducked behind them. Swooping down to the ground and then beating his wings to a hover, Nithis took on his human shape, dropping William to the ground somewhat safely. Taking some time to stretch his back and neck, Nithis cast his gaze towards the house from behind the rocks.

"I don't think they would have seen us. Well, go on now William. See if the rabbit is there... and what he knows. Should you fail... we'll have to take you to see that insect you love so much..."

Nithis was, of course, being sarcastic and referring to the caterpillar William seemed to detest. With a wave of his hand, a small boulder began to twist and shape itself into a small throne. Walking over, the Black King fell into it, throwing one leg atop the other and tapping it impatiently.

"I'll be waiting..."

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

William felt his master's leathery wings start to shrink back, and before his master returned to his more humanoid form, William jumped up. He did a small series of flips, and hit the ground rolling. He stopped a few feet away from where his master had landed safely on his feet. William stood and brushed the dirt off of him. He had rode on his master's back enough times to be able to know when he started to change. With his inhuman speed it's fairly easy to react to the ground under your feet shifting, though it took a few times before William could jump off before being left to land on his behind.

William approached his king as Nithis stared at the nearby house. His heart was beating fast in anticipation. It had been years since he had seen his old master, and here he was, after so long, back at the cottage he had served at. His time while serving the white rabbit was spent running back and forth between the castle and the cloud cottage, the white rabbit's home. Along the way he would often stop to help someone, even if it meant Ryan chastised him when he finally arrived. Though Ryan had rarely actually punished him. He didn't feel any fear when he was lectured by the rabbit, unlike when he was at the royal courts... but even if he was punished more harshly at the castle, it kept him from the terrible things outside it's walls. The terrible things that lurked around wonderland, and killed people all the time, not just once a month. The terrible things he feared, and was now so vulnerable to. "No, I can't be afraid. The king is counting on my skills! I can't have him disappointed, especially when I haven't even begun yet!" William thought, and turned to face his master when he began to speak.

William shuddered at the king's threat of visiting 'the insect' if he were to fail at the house. He knew who the king meant of course, there was only one insect worth mention in wonderland. Neviah Absolem Ruka, the oracle. When she had moved away from her place near the castle's grounds only a few short years ago, William had been more than relieved. She had seemed to visit the castle every free day she was given, if this was because of the king's wants or her own, William did not know. What he did know was the emotionless eyes that held the future and past of Wonderland in them. His whole life and every lizard that had come before him. Maybe she had even glimpsed a time before there were roles, and there were actual people. If she had then she hadn't told him, and he was too afraid to ask. It was more then just that though, there were things that people just shouldn't know, and Ruka knew them all.

William nodded and looked at the house. It had seen better days, time had not been kind to once perfect home. For a moment he felt a pang of guilt flash through his chest. If he hadn't left his master, the house would still be in perfect condition. "Or you could be dead." an all too familiar voice whispered in his mind. It was his fear, a new twisted voice of reason that drove him down paths he would not of chosen otherwise. It had been this voice of fear that told him to stay with the king, and this voice of fear that kept him from leaving the castle. The only thing that overrode the voice of fear was his lord and master's commands. King Nithis, his savior from fear's tight grasp. When he was around the black king, he felt safer than with anyone else. To be with someone of such power and grace, though it made William feel worthless in comparison, he was content to just be near such a being of unreachable standing. As a demonstration of this magnificent creature's power, the King snapped his fingers, and a boulder formed a throne for him to sit in. William smiled as his king took a seat, "But I'm not dead. King Nithis is here, he'll protect me if anything happens." he thought happily.

William nodded as his master told him that he'd be waiting. He gave a deep bow to his master, "Yes, your Majesty." he said his face only inches from the ground. William straightened himself and turned towards the dilapidated cottage. He suppressed a sigh as he got closer to it. "It had once been so great. Has my absence really caused all this damage? I remember spending hours trimming those vines so that they didn't become too large, but it loos like they've been over grown for years. All the white paint's gone too, I remember now. I used to repaint it at least once every few months once the acid rains started so that it wouldn't lose it's pristineness. The house of the queen's advisor, what disarray have you found yourself in now?" William thought with a frown as he continued to walk through it. He felt the familiar bubble's presence as he stepped closer, passing through easily. "I guess he didn't change the locks. He could always be so forgetful." he thought, smiling fondly as these memories resurfaced. After a few moments he stopped, and quickly shook his head back and forth, sending his curls in a frenzy. "What am I thinking? He's a traitor to the king, and he left me at the castle! I shouldn't miss him, or working here! It's dangerous here, the only place thats safe is the castle."

By the time William finished with his internal struggles, he had reached the front door. He paused, his hand hovering in front of the knob, "What if he's not home?" he thought, and with a new sense of panic and urgency he started banging on the door. "Mr. White! Mr. White! It's William, I need your help! Ryan, please open up! I'm sorry I left, just please just open the door. Ryan! Please, Ryan!" he said loudly, then stopped after a few minutes. He listened, but only heard the sound of distant scurrying. William looked through the window, but didn't see any lights on. "No no no no no. He can't not be here! I can't go to that thing! Not again! Not the smoke, not the eyes!" he thought, and suddenly heard himself screaming. "Mr. White! Ms. White! Ryan! Anyone, just open the door!" he tried the handle for himself, but the door wouldn't open. He frantically looked around the door and leaves for a spare key, but after ten minutes he still couldn't find anything. "He's not home." he thought numbly, feeling defeated. Slowly William made his progression back to the king.

William kneeled before his king, his head facing the ground. "He's not home." he said softly, the sadness easily heard in his voice. "Should we go to the oracle now or," he began, then looked up at the king, though still kneeling before his throne. "Or maybe I could stay and wait for it to return instead? Maybe I could search for him and report to you once I learned something, or return at the end of the week?" he said, his eyes pleading now, "Please Lord, I feel like I failed you here. Can you please give me another chance?" he asked. He hadn't been able to find the rabbit, and his presence was irrelevant at the Oracle's den. He felt as though he was useless again, like a tool that had lost it's value. He didn't want to be thrown away, he wanted to be polished and used again. He hoped that the king would let him go, though if he didn't he wouldn't cry or complain. He'd still do his duties to the best of his abilities, though there would be a little hole where his pride in himself had been. It would take a few days or perhaps a week for it to grow back. Until then he'd most likely wonder the halls of the castle, aimlessly searching for a purpose. It was at times like that when he was taken advantage of so easily. He'd agree to almost anything, and his judgement was swayed easily.

- { It's fine, it's not like William is my only character } -
- Hope you feel better soon, it seems like a lot of people have been sick lately -
( Oh, and if you don't like something that William said about Nithis's character, then just tell me and I'll edit )

Nithis's eyes fell upon William calmly with a fashion that suggested the king had expected as much. Still, his eyes wandered to the side, looking at the house as if to make sure no one was really there.

"I assume you are quite certain that is the case... William."

The Black King's eyes once again fell upon the lizard, appearing slitted like the serpents of William's ancestry. The black and gold eyes seemed to penetrate his soul, though they did nothing in actuality, other than to attempt at placing him in a state of unease. Nithis's gaze lingered an uncomfortable amount of time and it seemed as if the king did nothing more than to stare; he was considering what to do with William, however, and how best to proceed.

"If I sent you to the caterpillar... she would see right though it besides... The creature may dislike me... but I think it might appreciate a face to face... more sincere approach. I have no further need for you then, William... other than your current mission. I don't care how you do it... but find out what whimsical ideas that rabbit may harbor... Do not return until you have something. Fear not my dear lizard... your king's eyes are always watching... should you encounter danger... I will come for you."

Nithis was harsh on the lizard at first and he anticipated the disappointment. It was with such considerations in mind, that the king decided to embellish his words and actions towards William in the latter part of his decision. He wanted results, not sulking... if that meant he had to use honey with the creature... than that was what he would use.

"I'm off."

Still seated and dangerously close, a rapid transformation took hold within Nithis as he shifted to the form of a dragon. The change was so quick and violent that it literally blew apart the stone throne he had constructed and as soon as he shifted, he was off in the sky like a bolt of lighting, sending shards of rock in all directions.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
William shifted uncomfortably under his king's penetrating stare. It was as if his king knew everything that he was feeling and thinking. Like he was seeing through all the walls that hid them away. "He knows, he knows. But will he let me go? All I need is a chance, please Lord." he thought as the silence seemed to stretch on for centuries. There were so many things Nithis could of said. He could of commanded William to collect the information from the Oracle, sent im back to the castle, send him back to the castle, "Or he could kill you." he voice of fear chimed in again. This wasn't the first time William had failed his master, due to circumstance or not, and his master could very well be upset enough to kill him. Those cold eyes seemed to dig deep into his soul, and William could do nothing but helplessly stare back, silently praying that his master give him the chance to prove himself.

William nodded, looking down as his master spoke. A small spark of hope filled him as his master admitted that she would see through him if he were to go. "Then maybe I won't have to go see the oracle! Oh please just let me finish the mission." he thought as his king went on about the oracle's dislike for him. "She doesn't like Lord Nithis? Then why did she come to the castle so often?" he thought with a frown. He had always thought the oracle loyal to their king, and thats why she had come to the castle so often. "Did something happen between them? Or did she see something to make her allegiance change?" Her dislike of his master would explain why she left, but he hadn't caught wind on any reasons for her departure that would suggest friction between his majesty and the oracle. William felt as though he was missing a piece of the puzzle, but he moved those thoughts to the side. His master hadn't yet told him what was in store for the poor pale lizard. If he wanted to know what was to become of him he had to pay attention.

William's stomach lurched when his master said that he had no further need of the lizard. "No, no! Not you too!" he thought in a panic, his now wide eyes unable to look up and see the surely bored expression that would fill his master's features. It was the look that often covered his master's face before he killed a useless or unloyal servant. The words he had spoken, that now echoed through William's mind, were also the ones he spoke before swiftly dealing with unwanted people. His heart beat faster as he waited the inevitable blow, and time seemed to slow. Though only seconds had passed, it felt as though years were wasting away before him master spoke again. Relief filled his every being. "My mission! Then he has agreed to let me prove myself! How could I of ever of doubted my lord?" he thought joyfully.

William nodded and listened intently as his master went over his assignment. "Use any means possible to find Ryan and learn what he's been doing. Don't return until I have information." he thought, making a mental note for him to remember later. He was happy he was being given the chance to prove himself, but not being able to return until the mission was complete was a bit of a scary thought. He'd have to find his own lodgings if he didn't find Ryan that day. He didn't know anyone outside of the castle that well, and feared what would come for him if he slept in the forest. At the promise of his King's protection, all worry and doubt was swept from his features and he looked up to face his King. "Thank you my Lord!" he said cheerfully. He hadn't expected his master to be so considerate of his fears, but knowing that there would be someone as powerful as he watching over him, he couldn't help but feel a bit of confidence spread over him.

William quickly jumped back when his master said that he was off, anticipating his master's swift transformation. He was not prepared for the explosion it would cause though, as pieces of rock, both large and small, were blasted into the air. Dodging the best he could, William was only hit by a few small stones. Taking a deep breath William sat down on the ground, alone. "Now where to fine Ryan..." he said, thinking aloud. The busy Rabbit had had several haunts while he worked under him. The castle, the garden, and his home. He could already cross off the castle and the white rabbit's home, which only left the garden on his list. "Please be there Ryan, I don't want to be alone tonight." he said, letting out a sigh. Even with his master's promise of protection, William still didn't feel comfortable sleeping out in the woods. He had encountered creatures from there before, and killed most of them, but the forest brought back horrible nightmares of memories while under the influence of his blood lust. It brought flash backs of his time without self control, and the feeding from his poor victim's limp body until it was drained of all blood.

William shook his head, ridding his mind of these horrible memories. "I should just focus on the mission, then I can go home without having to worry about where I'll sleep tonight." he thought, and stood up again. Looking around until he found the familiar path, William started making his way towards the garden Ryan would often escape to.
