Getting back home had been a blessing but getting to go back to the art store was almsot a better blessing. It was easy to throw herself back into her hobby as a distraction and forget everything else that was going on around here for a while. She could just wallow in not thinking as her hands worked and some times she created her best things like that.

She was a bit grumpy though because in the six weeks that she'd been gone the local craft store she loved had re-arranged things. She'd walked in there without thinking and headed direction to where the jewelry was supposed to be ... and now she was staring at balls of yarn.

Scrunching her nose she reached out and poked one. Her grandmother had crocheted things but she'd never picked up the hobby. She'd always liked her grandfathers metal work better and it seemed like a more amusing hobby and so far it had been. She wasn't really paying attention as her mind wandered off and there was no telling how long she stood there staring at the various colored balls of yarn.

What with the new semester starting up, not to mention her self-imposed youma hunting duties, Maris hadn't had time to pick up a new project for quite some time. The only knots she'd been tying off were the ones that sent youma plummeting to their dusty deaths. Taking some time off to look at perfectly mundane yarn was a relief.

Maris sighed contently under her breath as she paced along the yarn bins, occasionally reaching out to touch. The store had a good selection of natural fibers, much better in her mind than the squeaky acrylics, even if she couldn't afford many of the beautifully spun skeins. Sometimes just appreciating the rich color and soft feel was enough.

Thus entranced, Maris sidled right into someone else - not hard enough to knock them over, but definitely enough to startle. "Oh! I'm sorry, excuse me," she said, jumping back, her eyes wide. Being snapped out of a yarn-bliss haze was rather unfortunate.

She bit her tongue on snapping at the girl who'd run into her. Her therapist had told her try to to not do that so often, even more so after the whole 'missing' adventure. She couldn't even really explain that one but it hadn't helped her temper any (at least she hadn't punched anyone at school yet).

She managed to count to four before her patience gave up. "Yea ...It's fine. Was I in your way?" She -just- managed to keep the 'like I care' tone out of her voice but she didn't look all that pleased to have been run into but anyone could have looked like that.

"Wait ... you know how to do this?" She waved a hand at the yarn. "Is it any fun?"

"Nah, I just wasn't looking where I was going, that's all." Maris shrugged apologetically. At least it seemed the girl wasn't going to make a big deal out of it. Wild hair, kind of cool... even if it practically screamed 'art student'. They all looked like that. And most of the lit majors had glasses, 80% of engineering was Indian and s**t at writing... they all had their little tells.

Maris included, apparently. Then again, when you walked into people because you were staring at yarn, that was a pretty clear sign that you were into fiber arts. "I crochet - not knit, never could get the hang of knitting. But yeah, it's fun. Making something with your own hands, just how you want it..." Really, the art of crafting was all about control. Making what she wanted to own just exactly how she wanted it to be, sacrificing nothing to another person's vision.

"I can agree with that." She smiled slightly as she nodded. "Though usually i work with metal more than yarn, this is yarn right? I never got the hang of stuff that was more .... soft." She should go pick up some new things for more jewelry while she was here.

She scooped up one of the little bundles of yarn and squished it a bit. "Do you have any suggestions for books or anything of where to start? It looks fun and i keep thinking about trying."
