Black Prince walked through his swamp kingdom. There were many potential traps for soquili, quicksand to sink into and bogs to become mired in. Black Prince knew where each and every one of these pitfalls lay and how to avoid them. He had grown up here and it was his domain. He would receive no harm from his kingdom.
His tongue flicked in and out of his mouth as he walked. It was an instinctive motion and one more serpentine than equestrian. Like a snake, by doing this he could "taste" the air. It was something like his sense of smell but far more refined. His tongue flicked out again and he tasted what he was looking for- an intruder in his swamp. He and his brother had noticed the signs that morning and Black Prince had set out to discover the intruder and their intentions. If they thought they could come into his swamp and cause trouble, they were in for a nasty surprise!
