Gebhuza yawned languidly, slowly making his way to the mouth of the den. He had enjoyed spending time with the blue leopardess – even more than he had expected – but he needed a little bit of fresh air after all those stories he’d shared with her. He couldn’t help but worry that he was getting a little too close, too attached to Kav. It wasn’t difficult… she was beautiful and funny and her reactions often surprised him. She was definitely leaving a mark on him and the dark lion began to fear the moment he would finish his mission and leave.
Gebhuza let out a soft sigh, narrowing his eyes contently as he watched the sun fill the world with orange and pink hues. His eyes shown brighter as they searched for the shape of the blue leopardess.

She gave a yawn as she opened her eyes to take in the morning sun and the odd scenery around her. Instantly she was on her feet and fur bristling until her sleeping mind full awoke. Now the water colored leopardess could see the dark male against the morning sun and she could feel a smile breaking out on her face.
"Uzi?" She asked. Something felt wrong, like he was keeping something from her. "Uzi?" she asked again.

His eyes met hers and the dark lion’s ears twitched at the sound of her voice. Instantly, he knew he was getting too deep for comfort but just like a raging storm he couldn’t keep his eyes away from the blue leopardess.
“Yes?” he stepped closer to her with a soft smile and leaned down to nuzzle her cheek. He wasn’t sure how many days his mission would require but he knew it wouldn’t be long until he had all the information he needed to return. Perhaps he could linger for a few extra days but definitely not for very long. “Good morning, princess.”

He worried her. What was it that he was hiding? She could clearly see the torn nature in his eyes, the way he moved, did he think she was blind? However Kaveri wouldn't ask the dark lion. Now was not the time, they only began to know each other and it wouldn't be right to be as forward as she had been about his personal life. Besides this was probably fleeting anyway. Happiness had its price it seemed.
"I wasn't sure if that was you or not." She lied, feeling guilty about it too. "The sun makes it a bit hard to notice you when its blinding me." She did laugh at that, and gave a happy purr when he nuzzled her. How heartbroken she'd be if he left her and the thought made her heart sink. Was that what he was hiding? That he was going to show her the world and then leave her?
Abruptly she got up and skittered away from him to the entrance of the den, "I feel gross. Sorry, I need to bathe in the river." And she was out that door and headed to the water. Maybe that would take away from stress.

For an instant, Gebhuza thought he saw signs in the leopardess’ expression that that implied she was holding something back. Her explanation surprised him and he wasn’t sure he believed it but he didn’t give it much importance. He was somewhat confused regarding how close he felt to Kav but the truth was that the two of them barely knew each other. Having complete understanding between them was an absurd expectation.
“Just me.” The dark lion said with a quiet chuckle as he watched her leave the den and walk to the water. He hesitated to follow, wondering if she was indirectly asking for a little time apart. In the end, he decided to follow her a few steps behind. This “thing” they had together… he wasn’t sure where it was going – if it was, indeed, going anywhere at all. Gebhuza plopped down at the water’s edge, wondering if he could convince Kav to return to his pride with him. It meant admitting he had lied to her about being a rogue, of course. And it meant making a huge commitment to someone he barely knew and the dark lion wasn’t sure he was ready for that.

She paddled through the water and dove under several times to get her fur completely wet, but with that dark water she was nearly invisible, blending in with it. As she padded through the waters she was coming up to the shore when all of a sudden there was Uzi and she splashed back into the depths. Bubbling up she eyed him with a strong look of disapproval.
"Now you sneak up and give me a heart attack." She was letting this get to her more so than she should. It was a fling not a courtship. Kaveri hadn't expected him to stick around, they'd dabble and he'd vanish. Stepping from the water and breaking her illusion she looked at him, "Something's on your mind, I can tell."

The dark lion leaned forward every time the leopardess submerged, almost as if to make sure she wasn’t drowning. He grinned when she seemed surprised to see him but his expression softened when she spoke. He looked at the glimmering water for a few moments as he gathered his thoughts before answering Kav.
“I might have to leave soon.” He admitted seriously, deciding that honesty was the best policy in this case. No matter how much he enjoyed her company, it would be pretty low to lead her on and pretend he had all the time in the world to be with the beautiful blue leopardess. “And I’m finding that it might be more difficult that I imagined.” He slowly dropped his body to a sphinx position, head held high as we watched her reaction with obvious interest.

She had known it but she wouldn't let it get out of her inner thoughts, instead she held herself regally. "I expected as much." The dark colored leopardess muttered as she got out of the water. "I'll be going then." Completely ignoring the second part of his speech, already she had her mind made up even if her heart was being crushed.
Kaveri didn't let him see her face as she walked past him and shook off the excess water. She was distraught but she'd pull it together. Seemed the good thing had come to a close and it was time to move on. As she walked, she kept confidence in her step, not wanting to let on how much it stung to be rejected. It was his choice though and she wouldn't be that kind of a woman to hold him back even if she wanted to.
Emotions raged between sorrow to anger quickly. In her head she could see herself attacking him out of anger, wanting to make him see just how much he had made her hurt. Futile effort though she concluded. Somewhere deep down inside she just hoped that if he had enjoyed her company enough, maybe he'd make a fight to make her stay. It was a small hope, but just maybe.
"Goodbye Uzi." calling out to him, her voice betrayed her though, letting on the sorrow deep inside.

The dark lion wasn’t sure of what to make of Kav’s reaction. He’d expected her to look angry or indifferent so the sadness in her tone really got to him. He didn’t think she’d suddenly get up, shake the water off her coat and just leave! Before he knew it he had ran to the blue leopardess and blocked her way, looking down at her with a strange expression, something between serious and hesitant.
“I’m not leaving yet.” He managed to say at last, frowning a little. Even Gebhuza knew those words were unfair. He would leave eventually and Kav would probably not follow him so it would be easier for the both of them to just end things as quickly and painlessly as possible. And yet, he couldn’t accept this notion that easily and letting go of the present was even harder than he’d expected.

Now came the anger, she lashed out. Water was that way, sometimes it could be calm and then other times its power was unstoppable. "How dare you!" She bristled, snapping her powerful jaws at him. "You're jerking me around Uzi. Rogues don't just have to go, you're hiding something." Her fur was standing on end and there was hatred in her eyes. "Either let me go now or take me with you." Her voice and body language softening up a little. It had been a day, but in a day you could fall in love. Life was full of surprises like that.

He took one step back, once again surprised by the sudden change in the leopardess. The snapping teeth was even more unexpected to him than anything else but his expression didn’t change.
“I don’t have a mate.” He said quickly without thinking because that was the first thing that came to mind when he heard the accusing tone. He’d never been in a situation when he’d actually wanted to share information regarding his pride with an outsider but Kav deserved the truth. He found it it nearly impossible to explain himself without betraying the code he lived by. “But… the place where I’m going. I’m not allowed to take anyone there. At least not without permission.”

She looked at him in near disbelief. Not allowed to take anyone there without permission?! WAS HE SERIOUS?! "You. Expect. Me. To. Believe. You." Each word came out slowly and like fire sweeping across the Serengeti. Her golden orbs burned. She had to take a moment and she put a paw up to make him stop and not follow her so she could.
Breathing deeply she went to center herself, this was a lot to take him it seemed. First he was leaving, then he had a secret place which let no one in without permission, and last she was falling head of heels for a lion of all creatures. As she meditated on these things she turned, calmer now.
"I will wait for you if you want me to go with you. If you want me." Her head dropped, did he want her? He said he had no mate and she'd gladly take up residence there so that must have been something.

That Kav might not believe him hadn’t even crossed his mind and that much was clear in the dark lion’s eyes. He supposed he’d never actually met lions from a pride as secretive as his but it was something so natural to Gebhuza that the dark lion had trouble even considering how outsiders might feel about it.
And now this was the big one. She actually said she would go with him. It was all on him now and Gebhuza frowned just a little. Yes, he really didn’t want to part ways with the blue leopardess but saying that he was absolutely certain he wanted to be with someone he barely knew felt somewhat childish and impulsive. And the dark lion was none of those things. It would be one thing to bring a mate to the pride but another altogether to bring in someone who didn’t really understand the pride or had any real commitment to it. Now that he thought about it, she didn’t even know what he did for the pride and… that might actually influence her opinion regarding this whole situation.
The dark lion sighed and his expression softened. He even smiled a little when he looked into her eyes, his mind already made up.
“Alright. I’ll go back as soon as possible. I will ask for permission to bring you in.” First things first. He needed to finish his mission. He needed to go back to the pride and tell his leader he wanted to bring in a new member. He hoped his request would be accepted so he’d be able to return to Kav and bring her back with him – if she still wanted to. “Just don’t make that face, alright?”

He was going to go and ask! He was going to come back for her! Mind racing and heart lifting she stared at the beautiful male before her. "What face?" She asked indignantly as she held her head high now, proving a point. "I'll be right here in our secret place when you return Uzi. And my full name, Kaveri. Don't forget me when you get there, make it a mission to remember." She requested. "I'll be waiting."

“Gebhuza.” He said without thinking and he surprised himself. He had never revealed his real name to someone outside the pride. “That’s my full name.” It seemed like an odd ending to this conversation, having the both of them properly introducing themselves for the first time. But it also felt good in a way, the dark lion thought to himself, having some honesty in his life.
He chuckled when she held her head up high and moved closer to rest his forehead on hers for a few tender moments of silence.
“I’ll come back for you.”- FIN -
