The Tsunami had ravaged the land he loved and had taken many of his loved ones with it. His most beloved had vanished with the wave and though he had searched he hadn't found her. He hadn't found her body either though so he held on to the hope that one day she would walk over the horizon and back in to his arms. Much had happened since the Tsunami, the clean up operation was in full swing, the nursery was getting built up well and he had become a member of the council. He had become a council member because he knew that Khepri would have wanted it. She loved the lands just as much as he did, more perhaps, they loved it and it was their home and though it certainly wasn't the same without her in it it was still their home and he loved it. The big dark old male looked out of the pride lands, he still went on guard duty, it was a part of his job he felt, that despite being a council member, he was still a guard and he watched the borders in his shift, just like all the other guards whom were under him. It also gave him a really good excuse to watch the borders for those who were missing. It hadn't really surprised him that lions had returned in ones and twos, in small groups or sometimes even in large numbers, flooding back home despite the disaster area it had become. Coal black eyes smiled as he thought of time past, he and Khepri, they had been here for so long, they had seen changes, life, death and more births than he could count. Now he was alone here, though he was still blessed enough to have much of his family near by, their cubs had grown and born children of their own and even one of their grand daughters was pregnant. He thought about this too, he was to be a great grand father already? Posiedon a grand father. It made him feel very old. He smiled calmly and let a sigh roll over his lips as he returned to watching, to guarding the borders of the home they had made together and that now he was alone in.

Waves, water, sand. It had all seemed the same over the past... she wasn't sure how long. Just long. Khepri had kept herself walking, sometimes dragging. Her body had hurt and ached for so long, she had just forgiven the pain and let herself move to a different mindset. The mindset of searching for her pride again.
Kota was there, her family was there. They had so many cubs and grand cubs, Khepri had so many cubs that she had watched. What had become of them all? Were her babies safe? It wasn't just her family she was worried had scattered, she was worried that the entire pride had scattered. The wave had taken so much from her as it was, she would hate for that to have been taken too.
When the tsunami had hit she and Kota had been separated, him on guard duty and she watching cubs for another female. She had kept some of them safe and returned them home. Now it was time for her to find hers.
Just down the beach, that was where she remembered her den being. Not hers, theirs. The home that they had built, the home that held so many memories of all their cubs, their family. She couldn't wait to see his face.
Once before she had gotten separated from him too, but this... this had been different. Nature had separated them, the gods of the sea had split them. Did she know why? No, but she wasn't going to let them decide her life for her. She was going to find him.
Sitting down on the sand and stretching, Khepri looked out across the glassy ocean. It was years ago when they had met, far inland. So young, so full of dreams. She was still fiery and steadfast, he was still protective and solid. A solid wall in her life that held her up when she would otherwise have broken.
"Well Ah'll fin' yo' ag'in." Khepri growled and stood, running down the beach like a younger lioness.
So close.

It was a surprise to his eyes to see the blood red lioness coming down the beach. She had been gone for so long he was almost afraid she was an illusion caused by his age. Clearly he thought himself suseptable to crazyness because of his advancing age. He knew the way she moved, the way she loped was so familiar to the jet black male that he almost convinced himself that it was someone else, that it was a ghost, a figment of his imagination.
He couldn't create her scent though. He had slept by that scent for years, years they had spent together knowing one another intimately, simply happy to be together to be a pair. Her scent was so familir to him, but he coul;dn't invent it on the wind. That pale streak that flashed down his face split and he bolted from his guard post without a moments thought and dated for her. For his Khepri.
"Khepri! Khepri lass whar ya bin'?" He dives at her, like a young lion, his elderly legs finding enough energy to galavant down the sand towards his mate. He reaches her quickly, wrapping his body around hers and pulling her to his chest. "I were startin' ta think tha worst lassy. Ya bin gone fer so long. I couldnae find ya." He whispers holding on to her, breathing in her scent, she was back, his Khepri, his lady, she had come home. "I looked fer ages..I couldn't find ya.."

Her name? Her name!
It was never more of a joy to hear her name shouted at her in that gruff voice, never more of a joy to hear her mate's voice and smell his scent as it came closer and closer.
He'd have knocked her clear off of her feet from the way they tumbled together, but she was crushed to his chest. Burying her face deep into his mane, Khepri purred as loud as her vocal chords would allow. Her man, her Kota. He smelled like the sea and fish and all the right things. The shells were new and made him look more roguish. Her pirate. Hers.
"Ahhh... Kota, Ah missed yo' s'much! Ah didn' kn'w wha' t'do!" Khepri bubbled as she curled into him, lilting her words more than she meant to. The slur was her own fault. But it was him, it was her man.
Pulling back she licked his ears and poked the shells around his neck.
"Hmmmm..." Her eyes glittered up at him. She felt so young suddenly despite her evident age. Her muzzle had gone a little whiter over the years. The aches her body had been feeling from only just healed broken bones were gone.
"Ah search'd for wha' felt like ages mah love. Oh Kota, Ah'm sorry Ah left ya. Water's a little stronger." She laughed. She was back, what mattered now?

The big black male smiled softly, his dark eyes fixed on her. She was as beautiful to him now as the day they had met when they were young and carefree. They had grown old together but he never felt that old as long as she was beside him.
"Khepri, darlin' I'm jus' glad ya back. I wish I coulda found ya, I looked...I looved and thought.." he shakes his head and licks her face "Ah was thinkin' I would never see ya again." He sighs gruffly watching her play with his shells. "Ah got some big news.." He trails slightly, a lot of things had happened, he really didn't know where to start.
"I don' even know where to start." He chuckles keeping hold of his mate he pauses for a moment to clean and kiss her face, he wanted her to know just how much he missed her. He thought, maybe the beginning. "We're gunna be great gran' 'rents." He chuckles "think we be gettin' old lassy." He grins playfully, that was only a bit of news, he had so much to tell her but he could wait.

If she had thought so many years ago that she would end up here today, holding onto Kota and loving him more and more with every breath than she'd have called herself looney. Not only had she wasted so many of the years that she'd had on a selfish quest that she could have abandoned before it began, but she hadn't given them to him. She wished she could give all of her years to him.
"Littl' gran'-cubbin's?" Khepri drawled? Her eyes shone brightly.
She was going to be a great grandmother, not just a great grandmother but one at her age. Were it possible she'd have laughed louder than she was already. She was getting so old, but Kota made her feel so young.
"Whi' one o' o'r kids 'ad cubs? 'ho 'ad gran'-cubs?" So many questions! She had been gone for so long again! She'd told herself that would never happen again but the fates had a different idea for her. It was getting to the point where she could barely avoid the wandering. Maybe that was her purpose in life, but this time she wanted to make sure that Kota came with her. If she ever left again Kota would definitely come with her.
"Aye, an' yo'll nevah see meh ag'in! Yo' kn'w bettah!" She grinned sheepishly.

'Kota chuckled quietly "Aye lassy, one 'o' Poseidons lassy's, very pregnant." He smiles quietly. "I be thinkin' we're too young to be great anythings don't you?" He winks playfully and licks Khepri's nose gently.
"So much 'as 'appened." He pauses for a moment and clears his throat "Ah'm, ah'm on tha council now Khepri." He grins and puffs out his chest looking very proud of himself. he had taken the position knowing that Khepri would be proud of him for it. Knowing that she would be happy to see him on the council. "Ah'm takin' care o tha guards and tha builders Khepri lass." He grins his lop sided grin, the one he always reserved for her and sighed happily.
"Khepri, I really thoguht ya was gone fer good lassy."

"Poseidon's lass? 'e 'as a dau'hter" Pride swelled deep within her chest for her son. For all of them, she knew that he wasn't the only one that had to have a mate. She knew that Vuai and the others had to by now. Isitini... well she'd known about that for a while, but she didn't see why he couldn't have them too. Just they would have different lives.
"Ah re'lly am too ol' for alla tha'." She shouldered her mate. He was so playful at times and she loved that too.
Dancing away from him she smiled in awe at her huge mate. He was part of the council of their pride, he was in charge of other lions. The pride in his own face and that lop sided smile made her tarnished golden eyes to water up a bit at the sight. She was so proud of him, so happy that he was proud of himself!
"Ah'll be' th'y knew wha they was lookin' fer when they met yo'." She winked. "Yo've gotta be th' bes' at it."
Really so many things had happened, what stories did she have to tell? Not many, just the story of where she'd been but he didn't need to know all of that. And she wanted to know more, needed to know how her family was, how far they had spread or if they'd all stayed!

'Kota chuckled quietly "He has several and a son, and Vuai 'ad a litter of lads, tha family is gettin bigger." He chuckles quietly "Course, they're all grown up an' Posiedons Daughter Afina is due to ave a litter. Ah be thinkin' we're too young to be great gran' kids, course, Poseidon's be a comin' a grandad, which be weird in itself."
"C'mon lass, we'll go an' find some 'o' tha kids. they'll be glad to see ya." He smiles softly He coudln't beleive that she was back, it had been so long, he thought she was gone forever. It made him happier than anything else to see his mate back beside him, her blood red coat fitting so well with his black.

Khepri laughed, a deep rumble that grew from her diaphram and rolled out of her lungs to her muzzle and out across the ocean. She wasn't old, she was loved, she was loved and had done her job, she had healthy cubs and those same healthy cubs had born more.
Circle of life indeed.
One day when they were even older than they were now they would lay down and watch all of their great grandcubs, maybe even great-great grandcubs and they would enjoy the world that they had built around one another. Kota as a council member, her as... whatever she would be. She had her Kota back and her family back, things would be as they would be, but that didn't mean that she didn't look forward to every moment.
It wasn't until then that she understood that all the things she'd seen, all the places she'd been, she would never give up any of the experiences, would never want anything but them. Because it made her appreciate her Kota more.
"Ah'll 'ave ta le' Posiedon kn'w 'ow t' deal w'th it." She laughed and sashayed up beside him. Her paws weren't quite as big as his but they were just as worn, had seen just as much. They had proven that they could keep up.
Well... at least now.
"Ah wanna see allah mah gran'kids." a smile on her muzzle as she bumped his shoulders and danced in front of him.
She may not have been graceful but she was out enjoying herself.

The giant dark male smiled an apreciative smile as his mate of so many years flounced before him. He always thought of her as the most beautiful creature in the world. Her size and stature, her age, the way she smiled and spoke and the odd wink or beautiful smile. He thought of ehr as the most graceful creature in the world and he would argue with anyone, despite his very laid back nature, if anyone said other wise. She was his one true love.
"C'mon then darlin. Ah'll take ya home." he lumbered after her pressing his shoulder in to hers, holding ont o her in the only way he could or knew how, by touch. They could and would walk together for the rest of their lives, he would cling to her like a barnacle, he'd never let her go again. Losing Khepri had been like losing a limb but nothing and no one had ever dissuaded him from the fact that she might return one day.
His dreams, his hopes had come true, Khepri was beside him once again. "You'll be mighty proud o our family Khepri. Mighty proud." He whispers licking her ears as he lead the way towards the new dens, his shoulder firmly pressed against his beautiful mate
