Pinning her ears back she pressed her belly closer to the ground, her soft grey mottled fur blending into the soft grey mottled shadows of the moonlit night. Not for the first time did she wonder what the heck she was doing out here, back in the human settlement, when she should be safely far away, hunting in the forest for her dinner... ah yes, it was that dumb bird that had been stalking her recently, every time she started to hunt it had followed her and began that hideous screeching... after two days with nothing to eat, she d finally caved and snuck down to the human place with the intention of scavenging enough craps to ease her hunger for the night. Glancing over her shoulder he scowled as the shadow of the hated bird hopped along one of the roof gutters above her. Damn avian didn't know when to quit. But at least it had stopped its screaming for the time being. Snorting in irritation she faced forwards again and slunk further along the fence-line. A short dash across the street would bring her to the backalley she knew well, and which had been her destination tonight. There should be enough to pick over in the bins there to last her for a day or two, jut so she could deal with her bird-problem once and for all.

Somehow, she didn’t know how, but somehow her stall had managed to become unlocked, leaving the slightest gap for the mokai to push through. Sure, she loved living where she did, but also she was curious about what went on in the compound at night. It was like a whole new perspective being brought to her eyes. She crept out of her stall, tiptoeing past her neighbors, and onwards to the outside. She paused, glancing at the small light gleaming from a flame flickering in a lantern. She’d only be gone for a few minutes, enough to scurry the land, check out the nightly sights, and then go back and act like she never knew the stall was unlocked.
The gray striped female headed down the worn roads, taking in every possible site there was. The moon was shining bright, giving her the light needed to illuminate objects. She stared at the silver orb, admiring it. Even the small stars seemed to dance around it, performing a scene that she had never seen before.
A quick shadow caught her attention. Well, that was new. She narrowed her eyes. What sort of other creatures scampered around at night? Was it another mokai breaking free from their stall for a little ‘nighttime’ rummage around the settlement? Ai had gone to investigate, not fully prepared for what she was about to meet.

Having made it across the dark street safely, she paused with her side pressed tight against a wooden fence, ears up and eyes wide as she sought any sign of danger. Yet all seemed quiet, no alarm had been raised... that was a relief. Suddenly the strong scent of mokai reached her twitching muzzle. Someone was out and about, and not that far away from her. Stepping back into the deeper shadow, she squinted out across the road, scanning the shadows that lay everywhere.
She had been feral for a season now and her night vision was as good as any she knew. After a moment she spotted the stripped female, and the collar at her throat. Either she was trying to escape, or she was just out for a nighttime jaunt... or she was about to cause Cheza a world of trouble. Not entirely sure which it was, she narrowed her gaze at the stranger.

Ai froze when she eyes settled on the one that bore that casted the swift shadow across the pavement. With her nose to the air, she tasted the other’s scent, eyes narrowing slightly. So, indeed it was another mokai, and by the smells of it, either one of cull stature, or one of wild nature. Golden eyes flickering quickly to the other in the shadow told her it was the latter of the two choices.
The female she had spotted seemed similar in color to her, a light gray with a few dark spots here and there. The only difference was this female had splotches, instead of the stripes that Ai had.
“Who are you?” She said quietly, her eyes watching the feral’s every move.
