Theirn grumbled to himself softly, wincing some he adjusted the cheap sunglasses that he'd picked up at the corner store earlier in the day, a half burnt cigarette hung from his lip as well and his walk was quick with irritation. His curse didn't cause him to have a sensitivity to sunlight but the copious amounts of alcohol he imbibed to help dull his senses did, it was a week before another full moon and the time of the month that Theirn usually started spinning into more self destructive behaviors. The bazaar he was looking for he'd heard was covered something that he hoped would come in handy considering how he was getting along with the sun at the moment. With a bit of relief he saw what he hoped was his destination ahead, reaching up he grabbed the cigarette and flicked it to the side. Patting the pocket Coal was hiding out in lightly he ducked into an alley and almost immediately paused in surprise. Little shops seemed propped up on all sides, one with lanterns decorated in bright colors drew his attention first, he then noticed a stall that had a variety of exotic looking meat selections laid out. This he decided was the bazaar he had heard about, with such a variety of people in the area many of which he was told were mystics of various sorts he hoped perhaps there was someone that might have some answers for him.
Theirn didn't want to bother Athan with his curse at the moment, he sensed that the man had a full plate as it was. The elder over the travelers in the area, who also happened to be his godmother he was avoiding on principle, he knew she'd sent word to his sister one of the last people he wanted close to him while he was still cursed. So once again he was striking it out on his own and attempting to find someone with the ability to aid him.
Sensing that his guardian's inter turmoils were going to keep him busy for a while Coal wiggled his way free from Theirn's pocket. Darting down the wisp spun once around Theirn before taking stock of the busy market. Coal's dark aura flickered some as the wisp moved up toward odd contraptions that he found set out near the paths in the bazaar. Despite the wisp's own curiosity he darted back to his distracted guardian often and quickly not wanting to take the chance of losing him.
Theirn sighed, Coal thought he was being stealthy about his meanderings but the wisp's curiosity and moments of panic as he realized Theirn had kept walking when the wisp had paused were very distracting.
"Finding everything you need?" Theirn pauses sensing the wisp's distraction at something once again. While Coal darted around some geared contraption Theirn's gaze found it's way toward a booth that was covered in an eclectic variety of items, a sign near it read, 'Voodoo'. Frowning thoughtfully he sent a mental tug toward Coal to make sure the wisp knew he was moving, before moving across the path of the market and peering into the booth. He'd seen a variety of magic items in his time, and from looking at the booth he already could tell at least part of the items on display were real. Tucking his sunglasses away Theirn called out into the booth, "Hello, anyone here?"

‘I am,’ Smokey announced happily. Had she had lips – or as much as a mouth even in the first place – to speak of, they would have sported a wide grin. Her eyes were of an intense red, not quite as dark as garnet, more like ruby. Her hair was unkempt, adorned with beads both of glass and gold, and bones and feathers and random tidbits. Her skin was just as dark as most of the bazaar dwellers’, but seemed to sort of meld with the shadows surrounding her.
Not to mention, she seemed awfully small for being a voodoo witch.
‘I’m Smokey,’ Smokey announced, resting her chin idly on her turquoise patterned hands. ‘And this here is Mr. Tiger.’ She gave a small tilt of her head towards the huge tabby cat resting to her right on the table, sporting a bright red collar and giving the werewolf a once-over which seemed … decidedly arrogant. And wary.
But nonsense, this was Just A Cat.
‘Mya is …’ Smokey hesitated. The last time she’d declared Mya had ‘gone for a pee’ she had received quite a scolding from the witch, threatening to kick her out even. ‘She, uhm, she’ll be right back. In a minute. But, if you want an amulet, or something, I got all the prices down.’ She beamed, very pleased she was getting her math straight, finally. Summation, at the very least.

Theirn turned his attention to the voice, once he'd picked Smokey out from the shadows he moved over closer. Being rather tall he squatted down so he'd be more at high level, glancing over he noted the tabby and kept mind to keep an eye on it as well - since his curse had kicked into full gear animals could be very unpredictable around him.
"Hello, I'm Theirn and I'm actually not really sure what I need...Mya is the one that makes the pendants then?" The child Theirn decided was one of the fiends, like Coal but it seemed different in some way as well...for one it actually looked more like a child then a spirit.
Coal had followed along behind Theirn, not that he'd had much choice. The gear mechanism fell out of the little Wisp's mind as he darted in the shop and noticed Smokey as well. While Theirn made niceties, Coal darted forward and raised up near Smokey flickering his dark aura in what was likely a greeting. Spinning once Coal moved to tussle Smokey's hair playfully, the little wisp had just recently realized there were quite a few other fiends about and they interested him greatly.

‘Mya makes the pendants, and the charms and the potions.’ Smokey nodded, and then added proudly: ‘Sometimes I get to help.’ She sat up more straightly to make herself seem taller and more important, but kind of failed at it. Thing was, the little fiend didn’t get to help all that often, as Mya claimed she got some real bad mojo going on, and everything she touched was required to be purified to be of use in further magicks. Which was … rather inconvenient, given. And it made for a very miserable little girl fiend on a regular base who’d really only just wanted to help.
Sensing his charge’s unhappiness, ‘Mr. Tiger’ rose from his perch to rub his head against her arm, purring softly. Smokey bent down to playfully return the head-butt, and kept petting the large cat as she continued to speak. ‘Charms over there are for good luck. These here ward off the Evil Eye. These are for successful business.’ Each time Smokey pointed without touching. ‘There’s something for everything really. But-’
She paused to lean back and glance up at little Coal tousling her hair, the gaze of her red eyes almost comically cross-eyed as she tried to get a good look at the tiny wisp. ‘Oho!’ she said cheerfully. ‘Who are you? What are you?’ She’d been the same, of course, the large piece of quartz which had housed her soul visible on her chest. But she didn’t remember, just like people didn’t remember what it had been like to be a baby. On top of that, Smokey had been around for years without ever running into any of her own kind. But she felt there was some relation, what with the shadows surrounding the tiny creature.
Smokey stopped stroking Mr. Tiger’s soft fur, but instead lifted her turquoise hands palm up, an invitation for the wisp to perch and hopefully a chance for herself to do some closer examination.

Theirn looked over toward the displays, "I'm not sure an amulet or potion is going to do me much good...does Mya have a lot of experience with - odd things by chance?" As he spoke Theirn kept his gaze on the young shadow partially out of curiosity, watching her more up close he was pretty sure she was a fiend but somehow more advanced like the one that used legs constantly at the barbaque...though he noted that she was much smaller.
Theirn chuckled softly watching Coal move over to the girl, "This is Coal, I...actually suspect he might be," Theirn paused considering how best to describe it, "related to you." Related he realized might not be right word but it was the best thing he could think of.
Coal spun in place before dropping down and lightly brushing over her hands, leaving a touch of coal dust on her finger tips. Coal paused and settled down on Smokey's hand waiting for the shadow to look him over. The little wisp's aura wavered some, with a few tendrils reaching out to brush over Smokey's hands as if he was as curious about her as she was of him.

‘… Odd things?’ Smokey and “Mr. Tiger” looked at each other, exchanging glances. The cat merely blinked – slowly, lazily, and then gave a hearty yawn. The girl, however, seemed as if she was close to be bursting into a laughing fit. ‘Odd like … what?’ she asked eventually, giving the small wisp on her palm a very gentle, playful nudge with the tip of one of her turquoise colored fingers. ‘Odder than this even?’ she inquired, pointing at Coal. ‘What is it, actually? There’s a lot of … odd stuff going on in the bazaar, especially here, where all the mystics are. But I’ve never seen anything like this little guy.’

Theirn rocked back on his heels chuckling slightly, "odd was a pretty wide term wasn't it...I should have worded it better. Lets go with curses...complicated powerful curses, do you think she could help with that?" Theirn's gaze went over to Coal and he couldn't help but smile slightly watching the two fiends, he felt a touch of kinship with the strange creatures. He only knew some of how everything worked but in the end it was too much like his own curse for him not to feel some connection. A troubling thought came to his mind as he compared Smokey to the other child fiends he'd met...she seemed more powerful, healthier. He'd run into too many mages that had caused trouble in the past not to wonder if somehow Athan wasn't causing the others to stay stunted...as far as he could see their connection to Athan was the biggest difference between Smokey and the others.
"Ah Coal, well..." wrinkling his brow Theirn glanced to the little fiend girl a moment, she was young and didn't seem to know anything about what she was...he really didn't want to be the one to explain that she was probably the victim of a vicious attack. "He's growing still and needs me to get bigger...he's a shadow creature though more then anything. There are quite a few like him actually...all with different people watching over them. If you don't mind me saying, you look pretty special yourself."
Coal paused, wavering his dark aura some - odd really him? He was perfectly normal! Twisting again in the air he pressed as close to the other fiend as he could attempting to leave a line of coal on her as he did.

‘Maybe?’ It was obvious Smokey wasn’t sure about this. She had seen Mya do some pretty amazing stuff – trouble being, most of the times she just didn’t know what it was that she was doing. ‘Mya doesn’t do curses, she always gets pretty angry if people ask her to. But, she’s had people ask for help lifting a curse, or to counter-curse someone. I dunno. It would probably be best if you waited and asked her yourself?’ Smokey paused for a moment, before slyly adding: ‘At least she could read your fortune, to see what you need? It wont cost much.’ She knew the witch disliked immensely on how she was forced to keep a tent on the Fortunetellers’ Square to be able to make a living and pay rent by selling cheap charms and enchantments. So, aiding her in getting more business, would certainlz appease the cranky witch and get her on her good side.
‘I’m a shadow creature too,’ Smokey said, giggling slightly as Coal pressed against her skin. Just what was it trying to do? ‘Just look!’
Her form seemed to dissipate, to become one with the shadows, with only her red eyes apparently lingering for a little longer in the wisps of darkness, like a cheshire cat’s grin. When she re-emerged, just a few steps further to the right, she actually looked a lot like the child fiends Theirn had encountered, but quickly solidified into her previous humanoid form. ‘See~?’
Still the most striking difference between her and normal human children was that – apart from her eyes – she had no face, and the way shadows and darkness seemed to sort of cling to her form. Yet, due to her empathy, there was still the sense of her flashing Theirn a brilliant, triumphant smile.
‘I used to have someone watch over me,’ she confided to the werewolf. ‘Mythos? He was a kid, like me. But, I had to leave. It was better for him.’ She shuddered. If only it hadn’t been for her nightmares, she probably would still be with the boy.
‘So, there’s others like me?’ She eyed Coal with intense curiosity now, touching slightly with turquoise fingers upon the large smokey quartz set into her chest, wondering.
Another thing Mya disliked immensely about being forced to take up tent-space at the Fortunetellers’ Square, was the overall … very questionable, poor state of its sanitary facilities. Why was it, that no one ever seemed to be able to clean up after themselves? To the point that made it real hard avoiding to step into puddles of … stuff. It always put her into a very foul mood and a good mind to actually curse someone. In fact, the next person to take a piss and miss the bowl would be in for a rather nasty surprise. She very much doubted it would change a thing – it was quite evident she was neither the first witch nor sorcerer to vent her displeasure like that – but it definitely made her feel better.
The beaded curtains rattled as she pushed them aside, taking in the interior of her tent with a quick glance. She had a customer, it apparently. Though how much of a customer he’d actually be seemed quite debatable. The man smelled of cold cigar smoke, of alcohol, and – more importantly – of trouble.

Theirn smiled faintly, "I don't mind waiting for her. And it has nothing to do with creating a curse just dealing with one already in place." His bright blue eyes shifted to the little sprite and Smokey a moment. If he hadn't been positive before she was a shadow fiend he knew once she shifted into the shadows and out.
Theirn tucked away the information she shared, all things to consider over when he had more time she seemed to have a bit more strength then the others. It sounded as she might have grown from someone she was bonded to, but she was much smaller then the fiend that manifested legs at the barbeque. It made his questions about what was really going on with the fiends surface even more strongly.
Blinking Theirn realized Smokey was asking him something, "oh yes there are others," Smiling a little he chuckled with the antics of the two young fiends. "If Mya doesn't mind, perhaps you can meet others," Theirn assumed the voodoo witch was her guardian of sorts.
Coal happily darted around Smokey's arm but as the other fiend's emotions seemed to slip as she spoke of her young friend, the wisp turned it's attention more directly to the young fiend. Moving up along her arm Coal attempted to rest against the crook of Smokey's neck in what was likely the closest he could come to a hug.
Theirn watched Coal a moment curiously before a wave of emotion from the little wisp made him realize what was happening, "Coal thinks you need a hug I think." Theirn's ears picked up the sound of someone else in the stall before he was actually able to pick up the faint movements of Mya's return. Stand up he peered further into the stall waiting to see who had actually arrived.

For a moment, Smokey’s inky black brows furrowed in confusion. Why should it matter if Mya did mind? It wasn’t like she was her mothe-
Oh! Ohh, she got it now.
‘It’s alright,’ she stated, attempting to clear up the misunderstanding. ‘She just lets me stay at her place, for as long as I behave and don’t cause any trouble. And, as a thank you, I help her out. But, I can pretty much do whatever I want if I’m not watching the shop, or on an errand for her.’ She beamed, apparently quite proud to be so independent.
‘Because, you know, I’m not like normal children. If there’s bad, dangerous people, I can just hide in the shadows, or flee through a wall, or just zoom away really quick-like, like WOOOOOOSH! Plus … no one can’t hurt me anyway.’ She shrugged, still appearing to be quite confident, but there was an air of vulnerability about her all of a sudden. Because, as she had just pointed out herself, she was being different.
Smokey basically froze on the spot in shock when little Coal attempted to hug her neck, for the strangest, frightening moment thinking he was going to try and strangle her. But the little wisp merely emanated a sense of sympathy, and no hostility whatsoever. This was … just weird, just silly. Why should she be afraid of being strangled even, if she didn’t even breathe?! Except she knew what it was like, what it felt like. Something … from her dreams. She touched lightly upon the wisp, conveying her thanks for being such a sweetie and caring about her, and then – quite atypical for one of her kind – huddled just a little closer towards the lanternlight.
“How sweet.” Mya stepped inside, hips swaying, regarding Theirn with only little more than a quick once over. He was towering quite a bit over her, albeit by no means as much as the ‘bodyguard’ the little shadow had inadvertently ‘stolen’ from her. Given, the witch herself was of rather petite stature, despite the high heels and the voluminous mass of dreaded hair. “A curse, eh?” Her bright, seafoam colored eyes were of an interesting contrast to the dark hue of her skin.
She swiped her cards from a nearby table as she passed by, already shuffling them before she sat down in the exact same spot Smokey had previously occupied. It was obvious the man had not the means to pay her, not in money at least. And it had been a long time since she’d last traded in favors. But, he’d come to ask for help, and – while certainly not pure of heart – Mya sensed no malice in him. Which meant she was honor-bound to keep to her vows and at least do something for him.
She fanned out the cards – decorative back up – on the surface before her in a practiced, elegant motion. “Pick one,” she said. Though she already knew which one it would be. The Pale Lady was a tough and demanding Mistress, and Mya had encountered those forced to heed Her call oft enough in her long life to recognize the subtle, but telltale signs that marked Her servants almost instantly.

Theirn nodded some watching the little shadow child with a touch of fondness. She reminded him of the little rogues that seemed to pop up around the Roma camps. "I'm sure your very good at keeping safe." Pausing he picked up on the touch of panic at Coal's 'hug' but relaxed when the two young shadows seemed to come to an accord.
Theirn's gaze drifted toward Mya as she arrived. Smiling faintly he nodded in greeting. His gaze drifted over the woman's exotic wear curiously, "aye a curse...uhm nice to meet you. Your Mya I'm assuming?" quirking his mouth a little he watched her with the cards wondering what exactly she was planning. Moving closer Theirn took the opputunity to catch her scent, the smell of spices and earth assaulted him but nothing malicious...at least nothing he could detect he reminded himself.
She hadn't asked more about why he was there or talked about prices which made him a touch edgy. Then again Theirn dropped his pale gaze down to the cards on the table and reached out pulling one to the left ninth from the edge out. Perhaps it was part of how she worked, do a quick reading and try to hook people in for more; the Roma would use similar tricks to bring in coin from potential marks depending the area.
Coal hugged Smokey for a little while before drifting back to settle on her shoulder. Flickering his dark aura the little wisp brushed lightly against her hair. Coal didn't seem really inclined to move from his perch, but a hanging oddity with a touch of brass and bright colors hanging down to too far from Smokey and himself caught his attention. Spinning on Smokey's shoulder the little wisp attempted to get a better view of the item that was far above both their heads.

Mya smiled widely, the card the other had picked being exactly the one she’d expected. “The Moon,” she said – glancing at her potential customer only for but a moment, but smiling widely. “A tough mistress, ain’t she? And, aye, Ah’m Mya. Please tell me more about what troubles you.” Curse or infected by bite, that was the question. Though, given the fact this man had sought out a witch, the first was more likely. If bitten, nowadays, people usually first went to see a doctor.
Smokey would have smiled – if only she could have – at Coal for chosing to stick with her for the time being. She’d met so much resistance and hostility for her being different that the little wisp accepting her simply for what she was was being balm on her soul. She had no doubt he’d leave with Theirn, as he obviously belonged with him, but for the time being she hugely enjoyed the wisp’s company, and was trying to please him. So, something had caught his attention …?
‘Mya,’ she started, her red-eyed gaze wandering up to the intricate brass-made item dangling above. ‘What is that? It’s not a charm, is it? The Little One likes it.’ She pointed at the wisp hovering upon her shoulder. ‘Can I take it down?’
Mya frowned, she did not like being distracted once she’d started dealing with a potential customer. “Astrolabe, dat’s what it’s called. A ‘star-taker’. It predicts de position of de Sun, Moon, Stars and Planets, if ya know how to. Ya can take it down, just don’t sell it.”
Smokey nodded, carefully taking the item off its hook for Coal to take a closer look. She still didn’t get just what it did, and – if it hadn’t been for Coal’s interest – she’d never even have noticed the thing … but it was pretty. There were lots of swirly ornaments, and bits that moved.

Theirn's mouth twitched slightly at the card, the witch probably already had an idea of what was going on a sense of unease washed over him; Theirn pushed it aside.
Using his boot to pull the chair over he sat down across from the Witch, "aye a mighty tough mistress indeed." Rolling his left shoulder some the memory of the brand and bite were very clear in his head, "Lycanthropy, but considering the moon and that I'm not spewing any obvious madness I'm guessing you had the idea of it." Theirn sighed a little resting back in the chair, "I've been cursed...infected whatever you want to call it. The day before, after, and of the full moon I turn into a creature in the moon's light, a werewolf is what most call it." The Roma let out a tired sigh, "I've been trying to find some sort of...fix for six years now."
Coal clung curiously to Smokey's arm, his little aura flickering excitedly as the other fiend reach for the Astrolabe. Hovering in front of the rather well kept astrolabe Coal slowly circled the instrument as if inspecting it. After a moment the little wisp began to move on of the dials, pausing after a moment before starting to move it just another smidge to the side. Coal clung to Smokey's arm as he started working on the Astrolabe moving the wheels of the mechanism this way and that.

Mya gave a thoughtful “hm …”, slowly shaking her head. Good to know at least that she hadn’t lost her touch. So he was a werewolf, but not by heredity. “You got lucky, lad, de time window of yer change is a very narrow one – some are forced to change for a week, some longer even.” And then again there were those who got entirely lost in their lupine form and never changed back, and those who could change at will – though the latter were usually the ones born shifters, or had been around long enough to learn how to control their urges and abilities. Some used potions, some used spells. Some … sheer willpower and discipline.
“How did it happen?” She asked eventually. “A curse or an infection, you said. Now, which of de two is it? And what ‘cures’ did you try, if any. And, don’t worry, piece of advice wont cost you a penny.”
Smokey’s eyes were twinkling with mirth as she watched the wisp trying to manipulate the strange brass mechanism. Occasionally she helped pushing the hands and dials this way and that. ‘You like it, eh?’ she said cheerfully, keeping her mental voice down to the equivalent of a hushed whisper, trying to not disturb Mya when she possibly needed to concentrate.

Theirn grumbled softly to himself, she was right but at the same time it didn't feel as if he was all that lucky. "Hrm, both or dunno." The mark on his shoulder made his skin twitch as he spoke, "I was branded and then something bit me...it was big and," frowning Theirn took the tin holding his cigarettes from his jacket pocket, "I could smell it, the smell of a hunter or monster. The warlock that branded me and I'm guessing called this thing was into some pretty dark stuff, he used blood magics of some sort to call it up."
Theirn rubbed his temple trying to remember more specific parts of the past, "I'd been knocked out before the brand hit me, but I saw the blood pool, he had a couple of dead goats thrown to the side their throats slit - I'm guessing he bled them." Opening the cigarette tin he took one of the hand rolled cigarettes and set it on his lip, even if he wasn't planning on smoking at the moment the physical presence of the wrapped tobacco soothed him some. He'd taken the time to set the cigarette into his mouth but really Theirn was stalling, the scene was still very vivid in his mind and he processing it was painful. "The thing whatever it was bit me and then it turned on the warlock and tore him apart. I didn't really have much time to react...that was the first time I shifted."
Shifting the cigarette in his mouth a little Theirn spoke after a moment of consideration, "various mixtures of herbs, one mage though bleeding me out was a good idea - I didn't. Lass tried to contain the beast in a magical barrier, to late she realized that I'm pretty resistance to spellslingers when I'm shifted. I've run into mostly folks that don't have an idea, some that tell me there is nothing I can do. And others have tried to use me. All in all I'd say cure wise, nothing useful." The edge of his mouth twitches faintly as he finishes speaking.
Coal hovered up and down some as Smokey asked, once Smokey started pushing the sections of the astrolabe and was able to actually get them to move Coal moved over to her hand and attempted to guide her hand as if the little wisp had something specific in mind. The moon dial would be high...and the stars just so...
