 Nahasi found himself once again pacing in his den. He had heard rumors that a female entered the pride. There hadn't been a rogue female in the pride since his mother. He wondered where she came from and what she was like. Other than a couple of the brotherhood mothers, he had never meet a female. He knew he wasn't interested in them, but that was about all he knew.
One of his advisors had told him that he would have to think about choosing a female to bare him cubs so he could have an heir. He didn't understand why there was such a rush, especially since he hadn't entered adulthood yet. They told him if anything happened and he past away with no heir they would have to hunt down his father and return the crown to him. Nahasi would always roll his eyes at them and tell them he had no plans of dying any time soon.
He wanted to meet the female and see what was so special. Some of the other members were making a ruckus because she was staying here, saying she shouldn't be aloud in the pride. Nahasi couldn't see a problem. He would have to meet her and see what she was like. He wouldn't let others cloud his judgement.
As he left his den in search of the new female he stopped next to his guard. There was a tinge of guilt when he saw that his guard was not his closest friend Juan, but another member of the pride. "You do not need to come with me. It will be better if I go alone." The guard nodded his head as Nahasi made his way through the maze. It didn't take him too long to find the brotherhood mother's den. He looked around to see if he could find her.

Eris' wicked eyes took in the surrounding area with all the curiosity of a true Chesire. News of her arrival had travelled fast in this curiously devised pride. None, save for the male that brought her in, had bothered to ask her name and even then she hadn't given it out. A name was something personal; a weapon to use against your enemy in social circles. She was fine being "the female" for now.
The den they had confined her to was less than inviting, but she played along, taking side long glances at the single entry way for something, or someone, to entertain her.
Eris sat primly near the back, off to herself and yet still close enough to notice the arrival of a male. And a young one at that! Was he hear to stare at her as the others had? Maybe whisper rude things about her when her back was turned, or as he walked by? Instead of being flustered or scared, Eris turned to him with a wide, intelligent smile. "Care to answer a question? Which is thicker, blood or water?"

Nahasi could tell who was the new female right away and approached her. She had a beautiful rainbow colored mane that he admired. For a moment he was stunned when she asked him the question. What was thick blood or water? He wondered why she would ask that. “I believe blood.” he thought about all the incidents when he seen someone bleed out. The blood was thick as he ran, unlike the water in the lake. “What importance does this question have?” he asked curiously, not understanding the female. He hadn't met anyone quite like her. She was some sort of question in her own right.

Eris grinned and turned her full attention towards him. Now that she was able to see him better she could make out the bloodied streaks in his mane and the wing at his side. Peculiar, indeed. "Blood, you say? Then the blood runs thicker in you than water." She made a slow motion to his face, gesturing, but not so quick that he would think she was attacking him. "Your eyes are blue and red, correct? One so pure and strong, clear and kind, but also very free willed. The other tainted and dark, callous and corrupt with the strength of a thousand souls. I wonder, then, what kind of King you shall be."
His mane and the wing at his side were all the description that had been given to her by the Scout who took her in, but it was enough to identity this boy as King. Even if he wasn't much younger than herself, Eris liked to think she had the upper hand in this situation, despite her obvious disadvantage.

Nahasi stared at her in disbelief. He almost back away from her, but he didn't want to show any sign of weakness. How did she know that he was king? Had someone told her or was it just a lucky guess. And what she said about his eyes caused him to shiver. His father's eyes were blue and his grandfather had red eyes. They way she described the colors seemed to watch their personality to point. "How do you know so much?" he asked curiously as he circled around her. She was odd, very odd.
"And how do you know that I am King? Don't you think I am too young to be king?" He was used to outsiders assuming he was heir because of his age. It wasn't often that someone was able to guess his age.

Eris' grin magnified and her quick eyes watched his every move. She hadn't meant to frighten him, but then again, maybe she had. It was hard to tell. "How indeed. I wonder what exactly causes one to be able to know anything at all, let alone 'so much'." The young adult didn't move as he circled her; rather, she waited languidly for him to come full circle so she could look at him again.
"Why, you just told me!" She exclaimed with a laugh. "A King that is King not in body, but in power is a strange thing. Will he break under pressure, or rise above it?"

He stopped infront of her and thought about what she said. "You're a little different aren't you? Are all outside females like you?" he asked a bit puzzled. He thought some more about what she said. The pressure on him was great right now and he wanted to get through it and become an even greater king. Finally he was ready to respond to her. "I am going to rise above it. I have to. I wouldn't want to fail my pride. I care more about my brothers than anything."

"Maybe they are." She mused. "Maybe they're not. Who's to say?" Eris fancied herself a unique little minx, and would have told him as much if he hadn't been so very entertaining.
Her father had always been the one to pressure her to ask questions. Though, he couldn't have meant to the degree at which she took it. To her it was a command that she was to follow through in life, with just enough spunk to call it her own.
During his pause, Eris resituated herself and started grooming her tail tuft, smoothing out the rainbow strands into perfect chaos. Where they had once been smooth they were now krinkled and tangled. When he spoke, she looked back up. "Then you are a liar." Eris pointed out. "A hypocrite. Now the water is thicker than blood." Still, she smiled. "When you can find balance between the two, that is when you shall be King. Until then, you are King in name alone, and nothing worth respecting."

At first he was insult that she called him a liar. No one called the king a liar. Especially when he didn't lie about anything. Before acting he thought on it. He needed to be become a King who acted not thought. He needed to care about being king for his subject and not just for pride sake. "What do you think it would take to be a good king?" he asked curiously, wondering what she thought. He sat across from her, so he could watch her.
There was something about her that made him interested in her. He wondered if there were other creatures out there like her, or if she was one of a kind. "You are very weird." He pointed out finally getting off his chest. "But you're cleaver. You are free to stay here as long as you want to. No can say other wise. I think that I would like to come here and talk to you more often. Perhaps I could become more brighter that way."

"A good King?" Eris paused in thought. It was a while before she spoke again. "A 'good' King would be someone who could find balance between strength and mercy, wisdom and emotion. Act too rashly and they will call you fool, but wait to long and be called heartless. You are still young yet, so I wonder what kind of King you will be." Even as she spoke, her grin gained an impish quality.
Eris laughed out loud, her voice echoing off the walls. "A compliment from the King! I am blessed." She gave a mock bow, mirth still giving her giggles. "How can I resist? You've much to learn, and I've much to teach if you can learn at all.

Nahasi nodded his head. He agreed with her about acting too rash or waiting too long. His father made both mistakes during his rule. He knew he would probably end up making his own mistakes, but he would make sure his weren't as dire as his fathers.
He laughed as she bowed. Hardly anyone made fun of him and when they did they usually got scolded for it. However he would let it pass. No harm was being done. "I will see you again than fe-" he was about to call her female, when he realized he didn't even know her name. "Sorry but I don't think I caught your name?"

“My name?” Eris tilted her head, then swiveled it the other way as she bent to lie down. “Name’s are personal things that are not to given freely. Ask me next time you visit, and I may feel inclined to tell you.”
