Up here in space, everything seemed a lot smaller than back on Earth. Truthfully, she hadn’t been here very long, nor had she done any good really. Mostly she had been running supplies back and forth, saying hi to some of the senshi she knew, etc. It had been a tad …
Boring.
So when she caught a glimpse of the artifact room in the Chronos Outpost, there was no way she could avoid it. Draconis had never really liked history; it was probably her least favorite subject in school. Museums were even worse, and she never voluntarily went to them unless it meant skipping school. Old dusty objects in glass cases she couldn’t even play with? No thank you. Not unless they were shiny or had some sort of value in present day: for example, the hope diamond. She had seen that once in a magazine and how it SPARKLED. That was a piece of history she could appreciate.
Nevermind that though. If it meant avoiding more running around doing useless errands, Draconis would certainly seize the opportunity. She cracked open the door to the artifact room. She was careful to the point of prudence when entering- how could she risk someone coming and noticing she wasn’t doing her duty as a senshi? The door seemed to creak loudly, though that could’ve just been the age of the castle. No one was around. That meant the coast was clear right?
Draconis tiptoed into the room, not making a sound. She gave a final 360 view of the room before deciding that yes, she really was alone. Quickly, Draconis shut the door behind her and let out a sigh. With those precautions out of the way, Draconis looked around at the room she was in. There were all sorts of artifacts here, but to her they all just looked like broken swords and primitive bowls. In essence, that’s exactly what they were.
She leafed through the first couple of rows, which were equally as boring as they looked. There were some old bottles that didn’t seem to contain anything useful. Draconis’ number one rule: if it wasn’t useful, don’t bother with it. She certainly didn’t know about the magical properties of such bottles, but then, how would she know other than tasting it? For her, they just looked like old disgusting bottles. No thank you.
Further down the line was a stone of some sort. Draconis had no interest in geology, so that was out of the picture. It was too bad that she skipped over it so quickly, or she might have noticed the soft, dully glowing veins in it. Such was life. There was a scroll that Draconis absolutely could not be bothered to read. As if she would want to look at some stuffy piece of paper. There was a blanket, with some childish scene of animals on it. Some of the animals weren’t even drawn right, what the heck! Draconis could not possibly know the significance of these items, and with her lack of passion for history, these all just looked like some stupid museum exhibit to her.
As she moved farther into the room, there were a few more things that caught her eye. First and foremost was a necklace. Truthfully, it caught her eye because it was so shiny, but after examining it she decided the thoroughly did not want it. It was ugly and gaudy; the diamond would just upset any outfit she wore. Still, it was rather pretty, in comparison to some of the other objects in this makeshift museum. Draconis reached out to touch it, to see the other sides of it, and was shocked silly when she felt how warm it was. Something that had been sitting in a room for hundreds, maybe thousands of years was not supposed to be warm. She left that necklace alone.
A few objects seemed a tad … well out of place. There was a kite, and Draconis couldn’t imagine any reason why that would be in a museum. This was a museum right? A snowglobe sat near the kite, which was equally as baffling. Shouldn’t that have been in the gift shop? Draconis wondered if ancient museums had gift shops. They must’ve, right? Draconis could at least appreciate the giant crystal near the wall. As much as she liked big shiny things, this one seemed a little out of place next to all of these smaller objects. There was also a map… err … well maybe it was a map. Honestly, Draconis had no clue what it did, so she didn’t touch it. Better safe than sorry.
It was a little hard to see considering all she got was some candlelight. Draconis cursed the ancient people for not having invented electricity yet. She probably should have brought a flashlight or something with her.
The section with weapons was vaguely interesting too. There was a … shield? that had some little designs on it. That was … neat? A second shield and sword set sat near it, and gleamed rather nicely. It seemed as though the ancient people were very fond of swords, but how could she blame them? The cavemen didn’t exactly walk around with AK-47s. She could appreciate these pieces though- at least they had some use in their time. How much could a stuffy piece of parchment do compared to a sword.
Still, she only spent about five seconds looking over each item. Museums were definitely not her thing. She was about to step out of the room when she noticed a rather interesting looking piece of pottery. No, the pottery wasn’t interesting itself, that wasn’t quite it. It was more like … something about it attracted Draconis to it.
It was small, only about the size of a baseball plate at most. It had a thick layer of grimy dust, which Draconis promptly blew off. She coughed a bit from all the dust that was in the air now (not her smartest plan, I’ll admit) and then continued examining the piece of pottery. Upon closer inspection, she realized it wasn’t pottery at all. Either that, or it was horribly made and the didn’t put any effort into it at all. It seemed a bit too rough, a bit too feral to be a piece of pottery. It was certainly magical feeling though. It had little flecks that seemed to sparkle and then disappear. This was no piece of pottery, so what was it?
As she rotated it in her hands, she felt vaguely uncomfortable. She had seen this before of course.
… Wait was she saying, she’d never seen this in her life. Draconis set the scale down abruptly and looked at it with an accusing eye. That plate … thing was not to be trusted. Clearly it had some kind of magic on it. No, no, no, she wasn’t going to play with magic today. She coughed and took a few steps away from it. Somehow, I think that is all the museum going I’ll be doing, lest I get into even more trouble she thought. With that, she shuffled back out the door to continue doing her boring errands. Her little adventure in the artifacts room had ended.
