Sata was tracking a long trail of blood through the dense forest. As a Whisperer, it was job to look after his little brothers and sisters - the forest creatures - and to help them when he could. The young lion wouldn’t leave one of them to die a slow and painful death if he could help it.

The gentle breeze weaved between the trees causing the familiar sound of rustling leaves to conceal the blue lion’s movements. He walked right out of the shadows and stopped, realizing that he had reached the border. The trail continued but he would not be able to go any further. He sighed quietly, looking around in awe of the vastness of the sight before him so unlike the dense foliage that he had left behind. He knew he couldn’t stay for too long but he was young and eternally curious. He couldn’t help but feel marveled at the bright world outside his home.

Her paws carried her aimlessly these days, her heart had little desire left to see the land that she walked. With her sons grown and gone, she found herself alone, and the feeling ate away at her love of life.

The curse of the gods seemed so bitter to her young heart now, she couldn't image what she had done to deserve this. The scent of blood caught her attention, she was a fine huntress, but fishing is what she preferred...but upon the sight of what looked to be an injured fawn, she couldn't help but go over to the shivering little creature.

"Sssh..I mean you no harm." She said kindly as she saw the fear let into the young's eyes. Unknown to her, not to far off was a lion to belonged to the pride she had strayed to close to.

Sata only noticed there was creature lying not too far from his location when a lioness moved closer to it. Though her colors would fit rather nicely in the Iknimaya, the blue lion was certain he’d never seen her before. A rogue then. He was curious, not just about the pretty lioness but also the creature at her paws. He walked slowly in her direction, making as much noise as possible as if to avoid startling her.

“Good day, Sister.” He greeted the lioness just as he drew close enough to spot the fawn. He tilted his head, wondering how injured the poor little thing really was.

At the sound of another, her ears flattened against her skull. She wasn't expecting anyone to just come out of...the strange forest, she thought as she glanced around.

The land here was certainly different.

But, feeling motherly protectiveness for the injured fawn, she stepped over her, and eyed the male. "Good day stranger." She said in reply, though her voice hushed like a whisper.

A male...the gods mocked her.

She glanced down, it looked as if something had sunk its claws or fangs into the fawns shoulder, she looked back to the male. Was it his prey who had escaped?

It was impossible to ignore the way the lioness had moved to guard the little fawn but her intentions were harder to understand. He met her accusing gaze as he tried to determine if her eyes betrayed protectiveness towards the little creature or possessiveness towards a potential prey. He couldn’t pretend to hold any claim to the animals that strayed from his pride’s lands and it wouldn’t be right to take a hungry lioness’ food. But he still felt responsible from the little brother who had ran out of the forest.

“Are you going to kill it?” he asked, straight to the point. He wouldn’t fight her if she was but he’d rather it be done quickly if the lioness couldn’t be convinced otherwise. “If it’s not very injured, I can probably find its mother. I can give you something in return, I’m not trying to steal your prey.”

Her tail flickered out behind her, she stood there silent as he spoke to her. Her trust in males was almost completely gone, what was the point? They'd never love her, and the last that she thought had, had left her with a belly full of cubs to raise alone and confused.

Raising cubs, who looked so much like the father that had broken her already wounded heart, wasn't a cake walk.

"No. I am not going to kill it." She said, though as much as she tried her tones were only soft and gentle, she didnt have the heart to be cruel. "Why should I believe your not going to kill it, if I give it over to you?"

“Mmm.” Sata understood that it would be difficult to convince a complete stranger of his good intentions but he would try nonetheless. He had to admit he was happy she didn’t want to eat the poor thing. “I’m part of the pride that lives in the dense jungle there. We are the Na’vi. We believe in living our lives without disturbing the environment and I have become a Whisperer so it’s my job to look after the creatures of our dense jungle. We ensure the balance is never broken by outside threats or our own hunting. A little fawn doesn’t provide much meat but if it lives it will grow and breed and ensure that the population of its kind continues to grow.”

He looked at the little shivering creature, tilting his head once again. He couldn’t help but to smile at it.

“Well, that and he is kind of cute, isn’t he?” the blue lion chuckled, the obvious spontaneity of the little remark somewhat betraying his youth. “Of course, only if he’s not badly injured. If that’s the case, I’d rather give him a quick death than to let the vultures get him.”

"Hmm.." She looked down at the small fawn, and her eyes softened as she nosed its cheek softly, careful to coo gently at it as if she were soothing a small cub. She looked back at the male, "I am Azu, and if you don't mind I'd like to go with you to return him to his mother." She said with a firm nod, she had to be sure that he'd be safe.

At his comment though, she couldnt help but give him a smile, her looks changed, softening and becoming more open and friendly before she flattened her ears back. "No, hes not to badly injured, though he'll have a permanent remind of what happened."

“That’s a little complicated…” the blue lion started, frowning a little. Bringing a visitor into the lands was big no-no to the Na’vi. He wanted to explain why quickly, before she started doubting his intentions. “A long time ago, before I was even born, there was a war in my lands. The pride was attacked by outsiders who aimed to steal the lands from us and many died. So we are still a little wary of strange faces.” Looking at him though, he looked perfectly comfortable as he spoke to this particular stranger. He supposed it was because he’d never had any reason to mistrust anyone. And she was a girl. And she was beautiful. Very beautiful. And kind. And she had a lovely smile.

“We accept rogues if they wish to join and are of the right colors – which you are. But there is a trial period in which one learns of our rituals and beliefs. If they have no evil intentions and if they are deemed worthy, only then do they become full members of the pride.“ He looked a little uncertain for the first time. “I can take you to my father’s presence if you wish to stay. But if you attempt to enter the lands without the intention to join, the warriors will chase you away.”

He stopped to breathe, looking hopefully into her bright eyes.

"Would you consider staying? It's a beautiful place with many rivers and plants and creatures of all kinds that live in the deepest parts of the jungle. There is always food and music and friendly lions to talk to."

She listened to his words, and understand the reasons behind why she couldnt go, to make sure that he was being honest. But what made her believe him now, her head tilted slightly as she studied him, he was younger than her, maybe even younger than her sons, and there seemed to be an air of honesty around him.

But as he asked, if she'd stay...her heart slammed into her chest as her orange orbs widened slightly. Her? A pride? She'd never thought about joining one before, before it had just been easier for her to live on her own, and she'd always done well. She worried, she'd be lost in a crowd, just another face...would she lose herself?

"Your reason's make sense.." She finally said after a long moment of silence, but join him? To learn the ways of his pride, to become one of them..why? "But why should I join? Would it not be easier for me to leave the fawn in your paws, and disappear into nothing but a moment in your memories?"

While the lioness didn’t seem too keen on joining the pride, she didn’t reject the idea altogether which increased Sata’s hopes. He wasn’t even sure why he wanted her to join the pride in the first place but that feeling was increasing and he thought about how he could “sell the pride” to the lioness. It wasn’t difficult. There were many positive points to the Iknimaya, he realized in an instant.

“Well, you’ll probably be happy here. I know that a lot of rogues love to travel but these lands offer things that you can’t find in many places. The lands themselves are beautiful and filled with prey. You could be anything you wish to be. A warrior, a baby-sitter, a priestess… an artisan, a crafter, a huntress… my people are not just friendly as I said before. There is a true feeling of community in the pride. We address each other as brother and sister even if there is no family bond because we are all children of Eywa, the Goddess that watches out for us as we do our best to live strong and in peace.” How rude of him! He’d completely forgotten to give his name in return before. He smiled a little at the lioness. “By the way. My name is Saagar’Tarang. Most people just call me Sata. It’s a pleasure, sister Azu.”

He had several good points about the pride, she simply wasn't sure if it was for her, was there a temporary thing she could do instead? Test it out, and if she liked it stay..if not she could leave without hassle?

"Its nice to meet you Sata.." She was more relaxed now, he didnt seem like he was going to hurt her, or the fawn. Having forgotten the fawn for a minute, she looked down to see it asleep between her paws, she smiled tenderly for a moment before she looked to Sata. "What do you do in the pride, and who is your family?" She asked with a curious brow arching, he had mentioned before, about meeting his father.

The blue lion smiled when he followed Azu’s gaze all the way to the sleeping fawn who obviously felt very safe in the paws of the lioness and only then did he answer her question.

“Like I said before, I’m but a humble Whisperer. It’s my duty to make sure we don’t interfere with the balance of our lands. I keep an eye on the herds and the little creatures and I study and befriend them. I make sure the hunters know where to find prey and try to prevent things like overpopulation or overhunting.” He wasn’t sure if the next part would reassure or worry Azu but he tried to keep his expression relaxed and happy. “My parents… well, they are the leaders of the pride. They are the ones who decide who stays and who has to leave the lands. One of my sisters and her consort will take their place one day.”

He paused, eyeing her with curious blright blue eyes filled with hope.

"So... what do you think?"

Her tail flicked up against her side before brushing down against the fawn, as her gaze traveled over him. She was speaking to a royal blooded boy it seemed, she wasn't sure what to make of it but since he didnt seem to have any airs about him over it, she decided to not make any fuss about it herself.

"I think it could be interesting, is there any way I could simply test the waters before making anything permanent?" She asked, she was fearful of being tricked. She had little faith in males and really her sons had proven to be the only ones she could trust, a slight flicker of panic reflected in her eyes. What would happen when she told them of her curse?

Sata felt oddly happy that he had managed to convince Azu to stay but he didn’t miss her reaction. He was, after all, used to spotting the faintest signs of anxiety in creatures he wished to approach which made him rather sensitive to changes in body posture and expression.

“You are free to leave at any time, of course.” The blue-eyed lion said quickly before any misunderstanding could arise. “It’s not a binding contract. Entering the Iknimaya lands merely shows your commitment to learn our ways. You can leave if you wish to. But I doubt you’ll want to after you meet the Goddess that lives amongst us.” The last part was said almost as a playful challenge as if no one was capable of resisting Ewya. Sata had a tiny grin now that quickly faded when he looked down at the fawn.

“But… mmm… what do we do with the little one?”
