History: As a baby Shinken was found abandoned in a small town not to far from the village hidden in the sand. He was placed in the nearest orphanage which happened to be the sand village. He grew up wondering what had happened to his parents. It wasn't easy growing up in the orphanage. The other kids were cruel to each other, and he often got into fights with the other students. Thankfully at the age of 8 he was taken in by a family that was having difficulty conceiving a child. The family was kind and treated him well, but the rest of the village looked down on them, and him by proxy. Their only child had trained as a ninja and become involved with a group of bandits who later tried to take the city by force. He was killed, but many people in the village lost loved ones and blamed his parents for his actions. Eventually Shinken had enough of the discrimination and decided he was going to do something about it. His family weren't bad people, their only mistake was letting their son become a ninja in the first place. He figured that the best way he could help them was to become the Ninja their son should have been. So he enrolled in the Academy despite their protests.

He passed the Academy with flying colours and was paired up with another ninja. Together they could accomplish almost anything, and they quickly grew in strength. It wasn't until they were assigned their first team leader that the problems started. The Chunin pushed his teammate too hard, and Shinken stepped in to defend him. The battle left the Chunin scarred, and badly burned. Her clan did not take lightly to this and took to hunting down both Shinken and his teammate. To add to his troubles they were suspended from active duty. They were saved only by the intervention of the head of the clan. Eventually they were put back in the line of duty and were assigned a new Chunin to be team leader. Shinken and his teammate got along much better with this captain, and they took down an entire gang network. It wasn't until their first B rank mission that the team started to fall apart.

Shortly after they got back Shinken's teammate left the village without telling anyone. He was pursued by an Anbu, and managed to escape. Shinken was informed of this, and led to believe that Michio, his teammate had been a traitor to the sand all along. Feeling that he had been deceived from the very start Shinken went after Michio alone, and without permission. For going after the deserter Shinken was labelled a rogue ninja. He eventually caught up with his friend, and killed him for his supposed betrayal. In so doing he unlocked the Mangekyou Sharingan.

After that he infiltrated the leaf village and became one of their shinobi. He travelled to the Chunin exams as a leaf ninja under a false name, and graduated to the rank of Chunin. A few months after that he returned to the village hidden in the sand, and challenged the Kazekage. He won the fight and took the title of Kage by force.
