Along a lake front, a brightly colored, two toned, kit was hiding. A lake front probably wasn't the best place to do so, as it might be a common place for foxes to get something to drink, but what was a kit to know? He never had anyone to tell him otherwise, to make sure he knew what to do and how to do it. All he had was himself, and the eye blinding colors of his fur.
He sniffled and burrowed further into the pile of branches and leaves that had fallen to the ground. "I guess here is as good a place as any to stay..." Victorino had a short run in with another brightly colored fox, an adult male, who said it was really hard to hide or do anything when one had coats like them. Victorino didn't want that. He just wanted someone to see past how blinding he could be. Like that was ever going to happen...

Mical hadn't really ran into anyone besides that foxy vixen, Chrome, but as much as he had liked her appearance the Daeva that she hung around with was a no no in his book. You never, NEVER, mess with a Daeva. They were mean and cruel to boot, no need to give them a reason to be more so. Sighing, he spotted a lake and shrugged his shoulders. He had been walking a long time, and he was sorta thirsty. What the hell right?
Walking toward it however a bright color caught his eye. At first he thought it might be a flower, but then again flowers didn't generally move that much did they. Upon getting closer he noticed that it was a kit, a brightly furred kit. "Hey Kiddo." Mical smiled, before lapping up some water.
"Whatcha hiding for? Are you shy cutie?" He winked at the little boy. Deities knew why he was such a flirt. It just came so naturally to him, but flirting with a kit was something new to him. Though of course it was just playful. He wasn't THAT sick.

Victorino squeaked as a male voice directed itself at him. Drat. Even with stuff piled on top of him he was visible. He sat up, causing branches and leaves to fall away. Not good. He should have stayed burrowed and talked to the other male, one he could see was an adult, through his covering.
His cheeks reddened a little. Cutie? No one had ever called him that. He wasn't cute. His coloring was ugly, and boys didn't get called cute. "I-I wasn't hiding!" The lie was plain on his face. "I was trying to make a shelter to sleep in." Yes. A shelter. Kits did need a place to sleep. Wait...why was he explaining himself to this guy? He didn't know him. And the way the guy talked...Disgusting.

"Oh so you weren't hiding." Mical chuckled at the cute little kit, "Sleeping....ah right...." The male dipped his head down and took another drink. "Well I wouldn't suggest sleeping out in the open unless you want a big bad bear to come around and gobble you up." He looked around for some type of paternal unit that was watching the kit.
"Hey....where are your parents? They should be keeping a better eye on a you. Your fur is a very bright color and could attract predators." The blue eyed male walked closer to the kit hiding in the leaves, "Come on....I'll take you back to them."

Victorino's eyes took on a hurt look. He mentioned it...This guy mentioned his bright fur. He was just like everyone else. It didn't register in Victorino's mind that the guy only mentioned the fur in association with predators, and thus might actually have cared what happened to the kit.
Victorino looked down at the ground and caught a leaf in his paw. "I...don't have any parents. That's why I was trying to make a bed." He looked at the older male with wide eyes. "Would a bear really gobble me up?" Would he be better off finding parents? Would there be anyone who would want to take him in? To teach him what he needed to know to survive that he hadn't been able to figure out on his own?"

Mical frowned, no parents. He had been afraid of that. Sighing he looked around once more then leaned in and grabbed the kit by the scruff of his neck and deposited him on his back.
"Well let me introduce you to your new guardian then." Micail chuckled at the surprised look on the kit's face as he was sprawled on his back, "My name is Mical...and yes a bear would be tempted to gobble you up. Kits are very easy prey without someone to protect them....But you don't have to worry about that anymore because I am going to take care of you."
He smiled charmingly at the kit, "So I have told you my name, what's yours cutie? I suppose if you don't want to tell me then your name can be Cutie from now on."

Victorino squirmed at being picked up, and was about to get off Mical's back when he mentioned guardianship. A guardian? For him? Victorino wasn't sure what to think of that. Wasn't this something that he kind of wanted? Or was this fox pulling a fast one on him?
Vic pulled a face at the idea of being called cutie from then on. Just because Mical decided to claim guardianship of Vic didn't give him the right to change his name. "I'm Victorino." He laid on Mical's back and put his chin on his paws. "Why?" He asked in a small voice. "Why do you want to take care of me?"

"Well...because you don't have anyone else....You seem like a nice kid and..." He shrugged his shoulder slightly, not enough to knock the kit off, "I guess I have always had a soft spot for pretty things..." He chuckled. There was no doubt in his mind that the kit would grow up to be a knockout male. His coat was a blend of the most beautiful colors he had ever seen.
"Vic huh?" Mical smiled, "I think the name suits you kid. Alright...I shall call you Vic then."

"Pretty?!" There had to be something wrong with Mical. Vic was not pretty. Nope. Not at all. So what was the real reason Mical wanted to be Vic's guardian? He said he wanted to make sure Vic was alright but there was something wrong with that...
Mical blew it. Vic was perfectly fine with having someone take care of him. He was a kit after all, and obviously didn't know what he needed to survive, since he had tried to make a den where anyone could see him. But then Mical had to call him pretty. Adding to the fact that he also called him cute and joked about calling him Cutie from now on...
Vic narrowed his eyes at the back of Mical's head. Was this fox one that preyed on kits? "What makes you think I'm a nice kid?"

Mical smiled as he walked through the forest with the kit on his back, "Well.....you haven't bitten, scratched or yelled at me yet. That is always a good sign" He chuckled, "Plus you're an innocent child Vic....that makes you a nice kid. You don't act out by the fact that you don't have any parents and are all by yourself...You kinda a little shy I take it....and for some reason don't like being complimented on your appearance..."
The adult shot a look back to the kit and wondered why he did that. It was so strange not to like being complimented, called pretty or cute. Maybe someone had told the child that he was ugly and made the idea stick. Mical frowned, not liking that idea at all. Having such a lovely coat was a blessing. Mical wish HE was as colorful. No Mical had been born plain, and had to modify his appearance to feel like he fit into society.

Victorino was stunned. Mical was honest when calling him cute and pretty? No one had ever done that. Of course, Victorino hid from foxes in general because of his fur so he never had allowed foxes to comment or talk to him in general. Was Victorino wrong about his fur? Could there actually be someone out there who liked it?
Victorino shook his head, partly to shake the small seed of hope forming about there being a fox capable of liking his fur, and partly to keep the tears at bay that were wanting to spill. Boys didn't cry, even if the things Mical was saying reached him, kinda, sort of. There was still the part of Victorino that didn't trust Mical. He couldn't let these words reach him.
"Why would I act out about being all alone? Its not like I could change it you know. So why bother with all that when I could be trying to figure out what to do on my own?" Victorino put his head on his paws again. "And you're bigger than me. I may not know where to sleep to where I won't get eaten, but I do know that it would seem pointless hurting you when I'm smaller than you."

"Some children do....I acted out when my parents abandoned me and left me to die. It wasn't a very long phase because then I was found by another, more caring, fox and raised. But still....It does happen little one." Mical smiled at him.
"Ahhhh I may be bigger...but being smaller doesn't always make you weaker. Do you know what a perma is?" He cocked an eyebrow as he snickered, "A permanent kit...well I will have you know that once long ago I got my tail handed to me by a perma..." He shook his head in mock pouting, "Twas a sad day for me....I do not think my pride has ever recovered." He laughed.

Vic felt like such a heel when Mical mentioned his kithood. Maybe having no parents was better than having some and finding out they didn't love you or wanted you dead. It truly was a wonder that Mical acted friendly to him. He could very well have left Vic, being full of hatred to foxes maybe. Or maybe, since Mical knew what it was like being alone as a kit, that was why he was wanting to be Vic's guardian? Vic moved closer to Mical's head, laying his upper body on the adult's neck, one paw dangling over a shouler, the other on Mical's head.
Vic's muzzle took an 'O' shape. "You were beaten by a kit?" How was that possible? With his long legs, Mical would be faster. With being an adult he would have been stronger. "What happened? Why were you fighting him?"

"You would be surprised what you could do if you were hungry enough. Drives you half crazy...Vicious....Nothing else to lose. That is a dangerous combination in a fox." Mical smiled, glad that the kid was warming up to him. "Granted I wasn't at my strongest either...and we happened to be fighting over the only food source left in that region. I was a little weak from hungry....and the fierceness of that kit took me completely but surprise. Never to this day have I seen anything like that." He shook his head.

A food source? That was what they were fighting about? Well, Victorino could see why. He didn't know what he would do if he couldn't find food. Maybe he would have picked a fight with someone else too. Though there was one thing..."If it was the only food source, wouldn't the kit have been weakened too, despite him being fierce?" Maybe because he was still a kit, but Victorino was very confused still on how a kit could beat a grown fox like Mical. Unless..."You said long ago. Were you a kit then too?"
