My Teepee Distractions, distractions . . . Why did he always get them at the worst possible times? Or rather, why did they tend to get him off the beaten path and, well, into trouble?
Specifically the territory of rather riled squirrels.
Now mind, Bernard was a thickly built Soquili, so their pelted acorns did no lasting damage. But the constant chittering, the screeches, the thrashing tails: all of them were enough to make the big oaf backpedal. "I meant no harm, little ones!" he assured, turning his head just before a cluster of seeds sprayed his cheek. "Honest! My hooves just take me places I shouldn't -"
Thwack! He actually had to shake his head at that last toss. But where to go? The squirrels seemed everywhere!

Such a racket!
Ears fully alert the mare paused in her journey towards her home because the noise only seemed to be worse the longer she walked. What ever could that be? Not worried at all but, curious the female trotted through the trees and, brush towards where she could still hear the loud chattering and, soft little thunks as something hit the earth. Easing ever closer Isa peered out from behidn a large oak tree and, couldn't stop the few soft snorts of laughter from escaping.
'Oh my..what has that stallion gotten himself into?' Trying to quell her rising amusement a smiling Isa plopped the bag she had been carrying down so she could hurry towards the poor stallion. The squirrels chattering and, anger only increased when she appeared but, Isa ignored them and, instead turned her bright blue orbs to the other. "I suggest you leave this area..the squirrels won't easily forgive you for trespassing."
Giggling again Isa allowed the squirrels to throw things at her, she had a plan to calm them a fairly easy one that the male must not have thought of. Turning away she carefully tugged the little old bag her human had given her near the trees filled with the angry little creatures. However..once closer the furry imps awful rain of seeds and, nuts hurt. "Ow! That hurts you little imps! Here take this and I'll get this big fellow to leave." Of course the creatures wouldn't listen to her anymore than they had the un-named stallion so with a sigh Isa let a few of the final ripe apples of fall, she had collected thump into the bases of the trees. The rest she kept for herself since, to be honest it would be stupid to give the little devils more than two of the fresh tasty treats. As soon the the animals were distracted a more pleased looking Isa snatched her bag bakc up and, motioned with her head so the male might be smart and, follow her away from the squirrels territory. ((Orz I hope this is okay my muses are fighting me a bit lately sweatdrop ))

((Is fine~ I understand how that can be.))
As quick as the situation had escalated, it had calmed. Whether or not the squirrels actually liked apples, they were curious enough about the offering to divert their collective attention from their equine targets for several crucial moments. Barely missing the cue she gave him, Bernard followed at the mare's heels with haste, casting one last dubious look at the small creatures as they made their way out. Such small animals, and yet so feisty when riled . . . And with rather good aim to boot! It was a good example of how size truly did not matter.
Well, except for him. Still a colt in an adult's body really, as far as his grace was concerned.
"A well-timed save! I thank you," Bernard said once they had put distance between themselves and the squirrels. He twitched one side of his face and winced; acorns were surprisingly hard. "Though where did you find the bag?" It was obviously something from a two-legger, but . . . Bernard didn't know much about the species beyond aforementioned two-leggedness.
