It was a harsh day to be out and about in the rogue lands. The air, was dry, and the sun showed little to no signs of giving in to her pleading remarks. But as usual, Mimo was just being weak; she'd endured far, far worse as of late, within the Ithambo'hlabathi borders. The drought had taken much from them, and caused a lot of pain of hardship. But in it's wake, it had left strength, something Mimo found herself in desperate need of. Especially now that she was out on her own and looking to start a new generation for the pride. Panting heavily, and merely dragging her exhausted body along the arid ground below her, MImo's ears perked as she caught the hint of distress from nearby. Though she had no way of knowing just who was in danger, it didn't stop her from darting right into action. Dust clouds forming behind her as she sprinted for the voice. Worry the first and foremost thought on her mind.
"Hello?!
I - I heard your cries, are you hurt?"
As Mimo approached the noise, it seemed to get louder until it was almost on top of her. It was an odd noise, very squeaky. An eerie reminder of the mewling cubs, she'd seen back home. But, what would a cub be doing out here in the Rogue lands alone? She honestly didn't know, and really didn't want to find out.
But the gods were not on her side today, and had left her quite the surprise to find. A small white cub, with blotchy grey spots all over her body. And an eerily familiar coloring in her eyes.
Mimo immediately rushed into panic mode, upon noticing that the cub was hunched over, with her tail secured safely between her paws. Her sniffling was the first actual hint, Mimo received in her realization that the mewling she had heard was indeed the cub in front of her. From somewhere deep withing her, that not even Mimo could explain, a strange feeling fell over her. One of compassion, and an urge to protect. Something she'd never felt in her life, not even for her own Mother. Her heart ached at the sight of the poor, harmless cub and she thoughtlessly made her way forward to attempt to assist the injured cub.
Again, things were not on her side. The cub, became defensive, her fur standing on end, and a non intimidating growl rumbled in her throat. Mimo's first reaction, was of course to laugh, but she tried her best to hold it back. Knowing she didn't want to offend the obviously scared little thing. "It's OK, i'm a friend. I'm only here to help. May I please come closer and have a look?" Her words were soft, and soothing, which was not at all intended, it just seemed to...happen? Well, that was strange. But she shrugged it off, her full attention on the cub at hand. She still seemed frightened, though her tense posture seemed to have subsided a bit.
"Fine.
I guess."
The young lioness whimpered, her eyes intently staring Mimo down as she approached. Needlessly holding her formidable stance. Obviously knowing she was no match for the bigger, older lioness, took no difference in how she reacted. Her Mother had taught her well, and she would do just as taught.
"Good, good. I mean you no harm. I just heard your cries, and something in me felt I needed to make sure you were OK." As Mimo babbled she leaned over the fearful female, and took a closer look at her wound. It seemed like a small abrasion, nothing serious, but to be on the safe side perhaps she could help the cub to clean it and disinfect the wound? Yes, that would probably be in everyone's best interest. "Hmmm, now I don't want you to get scared, but if you will allow me, i'd like to help you clean this. You wouldn't want to get all nasty and infected would you?" The older lioness looked down at the cub with a disapproving yet, friendly smile. "And if you don't mind my asking, how did this happen?" OK now she was just being nosy, but she could not help herself it was like she was under someone else's control.
---
The cub groaned 'Erk.' and looked frightened at the new arrivals idea. It definitely wasn't top on her list of favorite things, but now that the lioness mentioned it, she was even less in the mood for an infection. Plus, it would be great to head back home and show Mommy what she'd done 'all by herself' "OK, but I don't want anything that will stain my fur please. A- And I don't want it to hurt either!" The cub paused and looked down at her feet in shame. "I guess that can't be avoided can it?" She mumbled through her disappointed tone. "Thank you for help by the way - I'm Roho - Roho' Nzuri." She finished off her sentence with a weak smile Purposely leaving out exactly what the cause of her injury was.
Mimo was a little taken aback at the cub's demands, but in theory, she supposed she could understand not wanting the treatment for the injury to cause further pain. Though the comment of not staining her fur, did take her for a loop. Quite strange for such a young female to be so interested in her appearance. But she shrugged it off as well. Mimo had never really been a girly girl, or for that matter hung out with many females. Which was odd since her entire pride revolved around the maternal bonding experience.. "Well, I can't promise you that it will not hurt, but I will try my best, and i'm sure there are plenty of herbs around these parts that won't stain your beautiful fur!" The words left her mouth with a giggle as she tousled the young one's tuft with her paw. Wondering whether she would be bothered by it. "I'm Mimo'Sinu, but you can call me Mimo, and it's a pleasure to meet such a pretty young lady like yourself. NOW! Let's go find those herbs."
Mimo took a few steps away from the cub, before looking back and realizing that the cub was still sitting silent. Unsure as to what exactly the problem was, Mimo headed back and nipped the cub by the scruff of the neck, tossing her over her shoulder softly, and onto her back.
It was a comforting feeling, having such a small creature securely on your back, and it gave Mimo a heart warming feeling. With a smile, the two set off into the lands once more, ready or not herbs here we come.
If this is what parenthood was like, Mimo was more than ready for the chance to start her own.
