Strange rumors had been heard of late, concerning more than one of the prides. As Inatarni was the farthest thing from a pride lion, she generally didn't care. But the substance beneath the rumors had included a warning - keep an eye out for strangers, for there were likely to be more than usual. She took the advice with a grain of salt. Most pride members she'd run into weren't worth the fur it took to cover them. They couldn't navigate, couldn't keep a lookout, were generally unsuited for life outside of their precious prides. Nevertheless, she had to wonder what had prompted the rumors to fly so thick and so fast. It wasn't like she or Antallian talked to that many people in the rogue lands, so it was a bit unusual to have actually heard such rumors and from multiple sources.

Mnanaa was not having a good couple of days. Such a short time ago, she had been a princess. Prim, proper and leading a very routine and boring but safe life. Since then, her world had been turned upside down and she had run from it. As she wandered through areas far more dry than the marshlands she had come from, her fur developed a slight frizz and she found it increasingly uncomfortable.. which made it even harder to continue on as she was. She should have waited, should have gone with someone else, shouldn't have tried to steal some of the independence she never had..
Her increasing panic was another thing that was hard to deal with. She didn't have to internalize so much now, especially where she spent most of her time alone now.. but she couldn't even do that. So she wandered around, looking as out of sorts as she felt, trying to figure out what she was supposed to do next.
She couldn't even bring herself to approach strangers.

The black lioness raised her head as she heard...something. Whatever it was, it didn't belong. It didn't take much looking around to spot the thing that didn't fit - it was green, fuzzy, and making no effort whatsoever to blend in.
Spina considered pretending she hadn't seen or scented anything, but good sense won out and she padded over towards the stranger.
"Afternoon," she offered the word shortly, almost sharp enough to be considered a rebuke. It would have been if it was directed at Bauble for sleeping in so late...but that was besides the point and not at all relevant to the current situation.
She looked the other lioness up and down, not bothering to hide her inspection. She did, however, manage to keep her lip from curling with disdain. But not by much.

Mnanaa was aware of the lioness nearby but she'd been attempting to ignore her and continue on her way, hoping she wasn't approached-- and she couldn't help but jump when she was offered a sharp greeting. She straightened herself up at once, holding her head high and trying to counter her pathetic appearance with a more respectful manner.. but it only served to look more pitiful as it demonstrated just how far out of her element she was.
"Good afternoon," she said, her voice quiet and careful, "I hope I'm not trespassing, I mean no disrespect."

Spina snorted, a hard smile on her face. "If you were trespassing, you'd be bleeding," she told the other lioness simply and truthfully. Really, it made no sense for people to lie, the truth was a much crueler weapon.
She considered the stranger carefully. There was...something there. Beneath the bedraggled surface the green lioness was currently presenting to the world. Ina wondered if whatever lay at her core was actually worth digging out.
"You don't belong here, trespassing or not," the black lioness pointed out instead of asking the thousand and two questions that came to mind.

Mnanaa managed to suppress a strong reaction to the comment about blood, only frowning at what sounded almost like a threat, even if it was simple fact to the rogue. Mnanaa was aware of how dangerous it was out here, perhaps she even overestimated it. This was why her reflex was to offer a sort of apology and explanation, even when she was only greeted.
"No," she agreed simply, continuing after a short pause to decide it wouldn't be saying to much to do so, "And I don't intend to stay."

Red eyes glimmered and a small smile hung around Inatarni's lips. Too squeamish to survive out here, that's what this one was. She'd been pampered by living in a pride, and most likely was only passing through on her to find her way back to a protected place.
"That begs the question," the black lioness put forth after a long silence. "Why are you here in the first place?"

Now it was Mnanaa's turn to look Ina up and down. She wasn't so sure about sharing information about her pride with anybody, even when it was still together. Telling a rogue about such a horrible and sensitive situation.. it just didn't feel right.
"I- I decided it was in my best interest to leave my home," she said, telling only a half truth and obviously hesitating to word it like it was her own opinion. She never had the opportunity to share her opinion, and now it never felt appropriate.

Spina snorted again. "Don't insult my intelligence. If you don't care to be entirely honest, you're better off saying nothing," she advised the other lioness coldly.
She didn't doubt that there was some truth, but there were a great many reasons as to why it was a good idea to leave one's home. Inatarni considered offering advice, to the effect of "go find another pride," but she held her peace.

Despite her weaker appearance, she was not put off by the snort or remark about being honest. Instead, she looked unflinchingly back at Ina. She wasn't being dishonest, though it was not the whole truth. It was simply none of her business- and saying that, however truthful, was almost certainly a bad idea.
"My apologies."

So, appearances could be deceiving. Even in a soft prideling. She had to give the green lioness some credit for not giving another inch. Annoying as it was.
"I see," she replied coolly. The black lioness considered a few ideas and discarded some of them before jerking her head in one direction. "There's a few prides that way," Ina pointed out. "You might prefer that."

Twitching an ear, she followed Ina's gaze with interest when she explained there were prides off in the direction she was looking. However hard she tried to remain calm and focused on what was going on, it was far too important to not give it careful attention when being told that there were prides nearby. Another pride would be far better than continuing as a rogue. Staying in one safe place and adjusting to that would be easier than adjusting to life as a rogue.
With some hesitation, she glanced back to Ina.
"Thank you," she murmured.

Spina snorted a last time. "Don't thank me. Just leave before you are trespassing," the black lioness retorted before slipping off to do some hunting. Talking to the stranger lioness had been somewhat frustrating, and she was looking forward to the chance to rip something into shreds.

Despite her rudeness and apparent bad attitude, it was hard to think too badly of the dark lioness who offered her some help. She was annoyed by Mnanaa's general presence and inability to overcome a dislike of risking gossip, but still offered some guidance.
She watched her go and decided that it was a good time to go. Kindness aside, she was still an annoyed stranger who was keeping her frustration under control and Mnanaa didn't want to push her or run into anybody with less control. The idea of finding a pride sooner was appealing. So she went off in the direction Ina had indicated.
Fin!
