He'd been wanting to do this for ages, but somehow one project or another had always been in the way, bearing down on his team with a deadline, and he'd spent last week being sick - a feeling he had long forgotten and longed to forget again. So first it was time and then it was health but now Hayes had both and clearance, along with a gnawing need to see something besides sand and walls and fluorescent lights.
And he knew just what to do about it.
Carrying a pair of folders under his arm, the blond agent rounded the corner to the robotics lab and grabbed the side of the door frame, letting his momentum swing his upper body inside. "Hey!" he called, spotting a familiar haircut at a workstation. "Want to go on an adventure?"

Said Agent was sitting toward one of the side walls, where her assigned work station was set up. Various pieces of projects where splayed nearly along the work tables and benches, Screens displaying different projects specs, as well as paper blueprints rolled up along the surface of her personal desk.
Faleen was settled in her seat with her legs folded, looking pretty content, though her attention was on a Robot, that looked about four feet tall, and fairly basic in its build. She was giving it verbal commands, and watching as it struggled to get its limbs to work.
As she heard a familiar voice however, her eyes draw away from the robot, and looked instead, to see Hayes leaning in from the doorway, he was looking at her so it was obvious he was talking to her.
"Hmm?" She replied with a curious edge to her tone, swirling in her chair to face him. "An adventure? What kind of adventure?"

"Robot parts." The blond dropped off the doorway and ambled over to Faleen's workstation. In a way, he'd switched uniforms to the one he wore off-duty - he was in a pair of durable-looking cargo khakis and a military green t-shirt that read 'Think globally. Act within local variable scope.' A hooded sweatshirt was tied around his waist.
Hayes waved the pair of folders at her, then held them out so she could take one. "Remember that Galactic mech in the forest? Some of it's still out there." He glanced from Faleen's face to the twitching robot behind her, then back again, and grinned widely. "I got clearance to go salvage."

The mention of robot parts got her attention really quickly, her eyebrows arched in interest as she reached out to take the folder as it was handed to her. Flipping it open in her hands to look at the contents, her eyes opening a little wider. "The Ariados you were telling me about..."
She looked up from the file quickly when he said that he had gotten clearance to go looking for the wreckage. "They released a mission for retrieving it. That's fantastic!"
The little Robot turned its head up to look back at Hayes when he looked at it. lifting one of its arms with difficulty.
She knew the chances of the whole thing being there were very slim, She knew she wouldn't leave something like that laying around, but if they could find anything... anything at all, it just might lend a little more information that Rocket could use about Galactic technology.

"Yeah," Hayes grinned. It would be easier to point out when he wasn't grinning, which wasn't any time since he'd walked in; the blond was radiating the same excited energy he had when he and Faleen had talked about the old Porygon exhibit. "There's some projects going on but I've got today and tomorrow off, so I'm gonna head out there and see what I can find. Prob'ly drive out, spend the night, head back tomorrow afternoon. It's supposed to be nice weather too."
He paused to wave back at the little robot and focused on Faleen again, a smile dancing around his lips.
"You in?"

She was already excited about the fact that they might be getting some Galactic tech to take a look at, so when his explanation was finished with an invite, or questioning if she would accept the mission.
Of coarse it didn't take her any time at all to reply back "I'm definitely in" pushing herself to her feet as she handed the agent back the file with a smile. "When are you heading out?"

The agent was already practically ebullient, but still when she accepted his grin brightened by several watts. "Perfect," he beamed, taking the folder back and sliding it into the crook of his elbow.
"I'd like to get out of here before noon, and the earlier the better, so.." Hayes' brow creased slightly as he studied the clock and did some quick calculation. "Think you can meet me at the garage in two hours? You're going to want to bring a tent and hiking stuff; we'll be out there overnight." He adjusted his glasses and glanced down at her footwear - standard uniform boots, built to bend at the ankle - and his - a pair of broken-in hikers - and twitched his mouth in a sheepish smile. "Boots with good ankle support too - it's kind of a trek. And extra socks."

Faleen stepped over to kneel by the robot, glancing back up at Hayes when he gave her a time frame, and nodded in understanding. "Alright, I'll get wrapped up here and meet you in the garage then." It helped that he gave her advice on what to bring, since this was something she had very little experience with. It was just a couple of days though, should not be a problem.
"Alright Porygon, thats everything for today, store the data and relocate to the driver." She told the robot, who twitched a few more times and then seemed to shut down.

"All right- oh." About to leave, Hayes spun back on his heel and tipped his hand at her in a loose point. "Are you allergic to anything?" Once he had the answer committed to memory he was down the hall, reflecting on how much he needed to get out. It was kind of funny. He hadn't felt that sick of his room by the time he'd been better, but- Good lord, he was practically bouncing.
Humming a random snatch of tune that had entered his head, Hayes swiped his key card for the elevator and waited.

After confirming that she had no allergies (that she was aware of) She waved Hayes off, he seemed to be excited, she couldn't blame him. It didn't take her very long to get things cleaned up in her aria, making sure all of her projects were locked up and safe, and all the information filed away neatly. Pulling Porygon's USB from the robotic frame she had built to help train him, and slipping it into the pouch on her belt, Faleen headed out of the robotic department to get herself ready to meet Agent Hayes.
Two hours passed, and Faleen was sitting in the passenger seat of one of the Rocket vehicles they had borrowed for the mission. She had realized that wearing uniform for a mission like this would probably not be the best option, so, had instead settled for a pair of black sturdy boots, blue jeans and one of her green long sleeve shirts. her backpack was sitting in the back, along with a weary looking Umbreon.

"Breon!"
The tak-tak-tak of little nails danced beside bootsteps, and then the side door of the SUV opened. "Sorry, think that's it." Hayes punctuated the sentence with a little grunt as he wedged a tightly rolled and packed hiking frame into the backseat, with a casual smile and a "Hey buddy" for the disaffected-looking Umbreon. Binary immediately leapt on top of the pack and looked down at the Pokemon already in the backseat, gold eyes big and bright. "" She looked as excited as her trainer, though that dimmed when she saw Faleen. The dark type's ears twitched back and she backstepped, managing not to fall off the uneven surface only after a brief scrabble for balance. She flopped down over the backpack, stretching her paws out Sphinx-like to regain some dignity. ""
"You," Hayes told the shiny Umbreon as he got in the driver's side, "are going to fall off, Bines." He chuckled and looked away when the Pokemon gave him a slow, liquid blink, then looked over at Faleen. "Hey," the blond greeted, taking brief stock of what she'd chosen to wear. It was.. actually, it occurred to him this was the first time he'd seen her in something other than the uniform. In casual clothes she looked.. different. Not as- severe? No, that wasn't it. Not less like an Agent, just more.. something. He didn't dwell on it; the day was waiting.
"All set?"
Maybe the shirt made her eyes greener.

Two sets of eyes snapped over as one of the rear doors was open, watching as a pack, followed by an Umbreon jumped into the back seat. yellow striped ears flattened back smoothly as he met the gaze of a familiar Umbreon, one he had spoken to before. Hayes' Umbreon. He replied plainly, glancing as she caught her balance on the pack, then, like her, moved his gave over to Hayes, though his remain unblinking, and stern.
A small smile played on Faleen's lips as she watched Binary, quite the adorable young thing, the dark specialist couldn't really deny the fact that she had developed a soft spot for the breed. "Hello Binary" The Agent greeted lightly.
Like Umbreon though, she looked over to the drivers side when Hayes opened the door and started to get in. "More then set, I'm ready to find some tech" She added with a smile. "I figured it might be best to let you drive" She said, lifting her hand up the keys hanging from between her fingers. "Since I don't really know where we're heading."

Binary's ears went back again on drawing Faleen's notice. "Bree.." the little dark type returned uncertainly, then leaned toward Umbreon without taking her eyes off the female Rocket. In the careful tones of someone asking after an unstable mental patient she muttered, "" from the side of her mouth.
"S'what I wanted to hear- oh hey, thanks," Hayes grinned, taking the keys from her fingers and slotting them into the ignition. "You want 'em on the way back?" The blond reached over to pull his seatbelt across, then fiddled with his Rocket Dex a moment and spoke into it.
"Agents Hayes and Ewell requesting perimeter clearance for vehicle.." He flipped down the sun guard and read off a small sticker on it, "RK 67 A." "Copy, Agent," a faint voice came from the device. "state purpose?" "Mission ID T-750 C." There was a pause. "Copy again; Agent, you are clear to perimeter." "Thanks. Copy that." The call screen blipped off, and Hayes brought up a GPS screen and set the 'dex in the cupholder.
"Okay," he breathed, then adjusted his glasses and grinned at Faleen. "Now for the fun part. Radio's yours if you want it."
There was a startled "Bre'!" from the back when the vehicle hummed to life and backed out of its spot. A moment later Binary slid as nonchalantly as she could into the space beside Umbreon and flicked her ears. ""

One of Umbreon eyes narrowed as he glanced over at Binary again, giving her confused loo, completed with a frown.
Odd question, but he didn't pry on it.
As soon as they started moving though, and Binary made an alarmed, Umbreon ears snapped up in surprise, and lifted a paw before she slid over into the seat by Umbreon. He said, watching her.
"I'll take you up on that." She agreed, normally preferring to drive, leaning back in her seat once he took the keys from her, as Hayes got their approval to leave the HQ. she glanced over, listening to the process and watching the Agent in the other seat with with it, while her hands busied themselves with putting her hair back, and tying it into a high ponytail. At their approval to leave, she grinned softly. "alright then," The radio was hers. Might as well see what was on. She didn't have it on very loud, but clicked on the speakers and shuffled through the stations. "What do you usually like?"

"" Binary nodded doubtfully, not sounding entirely convinced. After the last conversation she'd had about Faleen, it was hard to forget that her trainer could be in serious danger.
These thoughts were erased from the young Umbreon's mind as the van left the garage. For the first time, the desert scenery spread out before her, and an awed "" fell out of her mouth on its own. "" Ears up and alert, she craned her neck trying to see over the other Pokemon, before impatience won out and she hopped into the gap between the seats, then came up on his other side and put her paws on the window ledge to see out. The view was obscured by sand dust, but Binary drank it in. "" she asked about the bumpiness, not taking her wide gold eyes off the outside.
Hayes made an amused sound at the dark type and - oh, Faleen'd put her hair up. She did that all the time in the lab, but there she was in uniform, not a boat-necked top, and a few stray wisps drew attention to her shoulders. It was kind of nice. And she was asking him a question.
"Heh. Mostly stuff you're not gonna find on there - well," he reconsidered, "maybe some of it; there's some good alt rock these days. I dunno." He shrugged, taking his eyes off the desert a moment to give Faleen an impish grin. "Surprise me."
