A doe like mare was lingering slowly around the base of an apple tree, staring up with longing eyes at the bountiful fruit. Her stomach gave a long growl as she glanced down at the sweet grass at her feet. "I know I shouldn't be so picky..." she mumbled softly to herself as she wished Raiden was here to fetch her a treat from the branches above. Settling for less she leaned down and began pulling up the tiny roots of grass and munching them. It wasn't satisfying but at least she would dull her hunger.

Nexus had managed to slip away from his mother while she slept one night. Now that he was far enough away to be deemed safe he found himself wandering about aimlessly. It was a good life. Enjoying himself to the fullest which in many cases meant tormenting those around him. Today looked as though it would be another day in which he had the opportunity to be a pest: he had just stumbled upon a mare.
"Hello there beautiful~" He called unable to hide his impish smirk as he sauntered over. "Having a snack?"

Maisie had been minding her own business, completely unaware that there was company nearby. It wasn't until the young stallion called her such a kind thing that she snapped out of her lonesome state of mind. "Oh!" she gasped and turned to face the red head, stumbling back a few steps. "I..." she stalled her words as she struggled to register what he had asked. She was still stunned by his sudden appearance. "Yes actually... I was just having a nibble," she couldn't help but eye the fruit that hung out of reach for a moment.

Nexus couldn't have missed that look if he had tried. He followed the mare's gaze to the hanging fruit and could barely contain his glee. It wasn't that he lived to be annoying, it was just that it seemed to be what he defaulted to when out of options. "Got your uh, heart set on that fruit then?" he asked making a point of resettling his wings before giving his bright, shaggy mane a shake. "It does look pretty tasty."

Maisie shot her attention right back at Nexus the moment he brought up the fruit, her mouth watering slightly. "Oh yes. I most certainly enjoy a good piece of fruit now and then. I haven't had some in so very long." Her voice held something sad as she turned her eyes back up. As a gust of wind hit her from his wings being reset she slowly turned to eye them. "Y-you... um... could you-" she paused, thinking it would be rude to request his assistance. "Oh, never mind. It was nothing." She gave a sheepish smile, casting her gaze towards the grass with embarrassment.

Beautiful. She took the bait more eagerly than a hungry fish. "Hmmm?" He tilted his head slightly feigning ignorance. "Could I?" He tilted his head the other way taking the display to a level of dramatics completely unnecessary. "Oh!" His eyes widened in mock surpise, a smug smile on his lips. "You want me to sly up there and get that apple for you? That big one? Hanging right there?" He nodded at it as though there was anything else in question. "Is that what you want?"

The soft spoken mare was a bit taken back by the red head's consistent questioning. Was he setting her up? Getting her to built this sort of wishful thinking only to be let down terribly. "I... well..." she hesitated, worried to death that this trickery could result in some tears. "That's what I was hoping for but don't strain yourself on my account," she tried to brush the idea of having a sweet juicy apple in her mouth as if it were unappealing. If she seemed as though she didn't want it to bad he wouldn't rub it in her face right? Oh, but how she wanted that sweet red apple. Every few moments she would tilt her head back and longingly stare at it before turning them towards Nexus.

Well that was a little irritating. A big set up all for a back off. While it spoiled his fun a little bit it didn't completely demolish it. "Oh, well then, I suppose I won't be fetching it for you after all. I was going to but I suppose if you don't really want it that badly it can just stay up in the tree. Hanging in the sun. All juicy and sweet with no one to eat it." It was a bit of a lie, he hadn't been planning on getting it for her at all. Maybe she suspected that. Didn't matter. She wasn't getting that apple she ever so clearly wanted. That was satisfaction enough for Nexus.

Maisie could feel her mouth begin to water with desire. Bright yellow orbs gazed so desperately at the fruit so far out of her reach, and yet it was in vain. She darted her eyes back and forth between what she wanted and what she feared. "Well, if you wouldn't mind..." she mumbled softly under her breath, half hoping that it would remain unheard by the stallion. Her stomach gave a gentle rumbling, probably because she was over thinking the situation. "I would undoubtedly repay you for your kindness, sir." The purple hued mare gave a gentle boy of her head, an honest gesture.

Mischievous was perhaps the best way to describe the look in Nexus's eyes. Finally she had taken the bait. There was just one problem though; she was clearly anticipating his refusal. It wouldn't do to meet her expectations. There was no fun in that, no challenge. No, he would have to do something else.
"Hmmm...no I don't think I do mind." He said after staring at the fruit for a moment as though contemplating his decision. In a way he had been. Spreading his wings wide he fixed his eyes on the target and then, with a few beats of his wings to help give him height, he leapt straight into the air and seized the apple as gently as he could. Once he was certain that the fruit was he he stopped flapping his wings and dropped back to the ground landing heavily.
"Nah habrem." He managed to utter around the apple offering a smile. At first he looked very much like a stallion who was just happy to do a good deed and then something sinister took hold. Still smiling he dropped the apple and fixed his gaze on the mare. Then, still smiling, he bent his leg and kicked the apple as hard as he could sending it flying off to nowhere. "Such a nice apple isn't it?" He asked.

It seemed for a moment the red headed stallion was going to decline. How could somebody be so wicked as to decline a practically begging mare of such a simple favor. If she had wings she wouldn't have even bothered him with the request and do it herself but alas she was grounded. When the answer actually turned out to be a yes, however, Maisie's heart fluttered lightly in her chest. "Oh, thank you! Thank you so very much," she spoke in the usual soft yet cheerful tone she always held.
She stepped back as he landed with a soft thud upon the grass and almost instantly her eyes locked on longingly to the juicy red apple in his mouth. Her mouth began to water as she tried to imagine what delicious flavors would soon envelop her mouth. She was releasing all these positive thoughts from her hold, seeing as how now she was going to get what she so greatly desired right now, but things took a turn for the worse.
The brute actually dropped the apple onto the ground and pulled back his hoof only to fling it forward again and send her meal flying into some unknown area. "H-hey!" she stuttered with an uneasy distasteful raise of her voice. "You... you knew that I wanted that for a snack. Why did you throw it away?" she glanced down at his hoof seeing as how the juice from the apple was left as proof of his cruelty. Surely, wherever it was it was massacred beyond repair.

Nexus snorted. "I didn't throw it. Quite clearly I kicked it away." Now he was grinning from ear to ear and looking a bit more malicious than he intended. "As for the 'why' you're so keen on knowing...because I can. Because it's fun. Because..." He chuckled tucking his wings up to his sides. "You wanted it."
Nexus was sane when compared to his mother. He was just a bit cruel at times. Particularly when he was seeking entertainment. "Now!" Anyone short of deaf would have been unable to miss the utter glee in his voice. "Would you like another one? You look ever so hungry and who knows, maybe this time it won't want to fly away so desperately."

Maisie narrowed her eyes at the boy, displeased with his answer. It wasn't a gentleman like thing to do nor even a kind thing. It was just pure rude and malicious. The sort of man who Maisie feared the most. He reflected her step father in some ways and this simple comparison brought tears to her eyes as she stared on. Words couldn't even be brought up for she knew they would be nothing but squeaks and whimpers. Just as Maisie was about to attempt a decline to his offer to save herself what dignity she had left there were footsteps behind her and she sharpy turned her head around, hair whipping her in the face at how quickly she had done so.
Dallon stood with curious eyes, seeing the distress in his mother's tear stained eyes. "Mother..." he spoke his first word with such a leveled voice but his brows showed tell tail signs of concern. He meant for a greeting but clearly now wasn't the time. He fixed his eyes on the stallion before his parent and summoned up a mixture of confusion and hostility. "Who?" he spoke basic words, not liking to use his voice anymore than need be.

She was going to cry? Nexus rolled his eyes. That was useless. This mare was pretty pathetic. She wasn't at all like the mares in his family. They were strong, and often unstable, mares. The deserved respect and commanded attention in their own way. This mare was just laughable, delicate and dull.
And she had a surprisingly intimidating son.
Nexus took a moment to look over the newcomer. He wasn't exactly large, they were roughly the same size, but where Nexus was light and bright he was dark and foreboding. Where his eyes were natural the newcomer's were red and encased in shadow.
The urge to turn around and leave was very strong.
"Nexus. You?" He didn't really care what his name was but if it stopped a potential attack Nexus would ask.
