Okay.

My players just won the major contest in the midsummer festival and payed little attention to my NPC having to leave on duty. What they don't know yet is that the duty he's been called is to suppress a riot in a small town on the edges of the kingdom. The NPC, a Warforged Paladin named Judge (highly original, I know) has been captured by the townspeople along with his small company. After not hearing news of Judge for two weeks, the PCs will eventually find there way to the rioting town.

My questions: How the heck do I pull off a town riot? I mean, what happens?Where does it go? I don't really need specifics, just trying to tennis-ball ideas.

A little background: I've been DMing with the same group for almost two years now. The setting is one of my own design, based very loosely in the Greyhawk setting.

The players this time have come up with some brilliant characters. There's a Half-Orc Cleric who's impulsive, rash and emotional with vestments that give her limited sorceress powers; a Rogue who was born in the now rioting town with a dagger-shooting repeating crossbow; a Scottish Druid with an unnatural affinity for large animals; an Elvaan Corsair (from FFXI, like a gunslinger with gambling powers. How I approved it is totally beyond my comprehension, but it seemed like a good idea at the time) who's ability to pull off the most dangerous and outrageous plans astounds me; and my quiet NPC, the Warforged Paladin with a ridiculously large sword and unending knowledge of all things useless.

I can get them to the town no problem, their friend paladin is there, and the Rogue's girlfriend is also there, so that's not the problem. IT's really what happens when they get there. I like to leave it up to the PCs as much as possible, but I can't just pull this adventure out of my rear-end.

Any amount of help would be greatly appreciated, even if it's just to tell me the idea is stupid. I'll be around to answer any questions or comments. Thank you in advance.
