Edel stood in front of her wardrobe, staring at the rack of clothes.

This was something new.

Normally, one of the house servants would pick out what to wear for her, or on the rare occasion that she had to choose, she would have gone with anything without much thought. But of course now that she was in school and now solely in charge of taking care of herself (quite well, mind), the ghoul had been dressing herself according to the latter method as mentioned earlier.

Back to the dresses, it is safe to say that there were a lot. Some of them she hadn't even worn yet. Such careful deliberation, you would think, was reserved for an important date. Like one with a boil. Except no.

Edel ran her hand through the garments with an exasperated and exaggerated flourish. All of them, now that Vieve had kindly mentioned it, looked like curtains. The only pieces not embellished with ruffles or heavy fabric were the nightgowns, which unfortunately, were not appropriate. With her lunch appointment looming up ahead in half an hour's time, the frost demon gave up and simply picked out one of the less frumpy dresses.

Time to go, time to go the ghoul hurried herself. Grabbing her purse, she headed down the hallway to the school's front gate where she would meet Vieve.

Vieve had picked out a leather jacket to go over a simple blouse and a skirt for today's meeting with Edel. Now she was brushing her hair slowwwly, enjoying the feeling. Somehow things like this were comforting- and besides, she wasn't in any rush.

Edel could wait a little. As if on cue, though, Prince came over and tugged at her boot, reminding her it was time to leave- as much as she was fond of him, he did take his self-appointed role as her 'secretary' a little too seriously.

"Alright, alright. You take care of the rest, then." He saluted her, squeaking happily, then jumped back up on the bed, where he promptly started scolding the lolita treats for making too much noise.

Could become a drill sergeant of sorts someday, that one.

Picking up her purse, Vieve left her dorm, making sure to lock the door. She took her time, walking slowly to the front gate- and expected, Edel was already there.

"I hope you haven't been waiting long..?"

Oh no, not at all!

Lies. The frost demon had already managed to create a three-foot-tall mini replica of the gargoyle that stood at the front gate while biding her time. She quietly shoved it aside.

Edel did notice Vieve's leisurely pace in getting to their meeting place – which struck her as odd initially, given how enthusiastic she had been about their appointment a week ago. Then she realised that Vieve was quite simply just relishing the moment. Which she deserved, of course, Edel was not complaining.

So, shall we go?” Edel paused. Yes they should, but she didn't know the way to the Maul. Well done. Fortunately, she had managed to prevent herself from saying something really stupid, such as : Oh, you should lead the way! (because I don't know how to get there) and instead worked her way around it to come up with something smoother -

And well, since this is my treat you should get to decide” she said, smiling earnestly.

Embarrassment evasion: Success. And Edel thought this might please Vieve too.

"Well, sure." Vieve considered, walking ahead of Edel towards the mall. "Probably a steak or something, for lunch." To be honest, she didn't care too much for the ice-demoness, practically disregarding her existence.

As far as she was concerned, there was a bag of money plodding along behind her, waiting for her to spend it. And why not? It was stupid to pass up anything for free. These silly lucky rich girls had as much money as they wanted, to spend, but if they were stupid enough to let themselves be taken advantage of... That was their own fault.

She supposed Edel might come in useful again, though, in the future. Somewhat grudgingly, she paused a while so the other girl could catch up and walk beside her.

Edel was feeling slightly apprehensive as she waited for Vieve's reply. It was rather curt, well, sure, but the frost demon was under no illusions that Vieve was obliged to be all too friendly with her. Her eyes followed the fire elemental as she she started to walk on ahead without her, raising her eyebrows and thinning her lips to give an expression that read O-kay. It then struck her that perhaps it might be better if they maintained a distance as they walked to the maul – at least it seemed the other ghoul would have liked that. Huh.

So it startled her a little when Vieve turned around and waited for her to catch up, which she did, feeling awkward about it all the same. Thankfully, they were nearing the maul already, and Edel, so enamored by the sight of it let the feeling of awkwardness slip away.

There was a luring chill that emanated from the eye scream store, prompting the frost demon to zoom in there (before Vieve could say anything )and stare at the rainbow of flavours behind the glass panel. Tempting.

That tease. She'd always thought of Edel as subservient and docile, but it had seemed almost like a deliberate move, the way she'd dashed right into the ice-cream store. Vieve's relationship with ice-cream was, so to say, complicated; while she loved it, it'd make her sick the rest of the day.

Turning away from the store, the salamander waited for Edel to stop staring at the display, trying to distract herself with something-other-than-ice-cream. Besides, who ate dessert before the main course? Maybe frost-demonesses had the luxury of eating ice-cream whenever they wanted... well.

Good for them.

Edel was doing the math. Exactly how many scoops of ice cream could a frost demon eat for lunch, and if so, how many flavours should she try? The answer is a mystery.

Mint sounded nice, very nice indeed.

But of course, the dear lady would know that deserts came after a meal, and that she had probably spent way too long in the store to not have bought anything.
I'll be back, after lunch” she told the now rather grumpy-looking owner. She tried to make it up with a smile too. Then slowly, she backed away.

Vieve however, didn't seem too interested in ice cream, and Edel would have realised by now that it was rather.....inappropriate to have dashed off on her own. She would have apologised for her side-tracking, but right now Edel was more keen on getting to the point.

Was there a restaurant or steakhouse in mind?” she queried brightly in an attempt to mask a thinly-veiled sense of excitement and yes, impatience.

Because, ice cream.

Edel left the ice-cream shop soon enough- at least, Vieve supposed, she was considerate enough for that.

"Fourth floor," she replied. "I heard their food is really good." The salamander led the way, aware that the situation was somewhat awkward. If you didn't show-or pretend- to like people, they would be less likely to like you back; and if they didn't like you, they'd be less likely to get you things.

"So, what're your favourite ice-cream flavours?" Perhaps some.. common interest would help ease the tension. With luck Edel would babble on and on, content with Vieve just nodding periodically. She really.. didn't care for conversation..

The frost demon was planning to just follow Vieve to the restaurant on the fourth floor quietly, looking around the maul and the shops on the way. Vieve's question came as a bolt out of the blue and the frost demon was stumped for an answer.

Because well, she hadn't even tried any ice cream yet.

I've....not tried any so I can-t say?

There was an awkward silence. The frost demon blinked at the ghoul and looked away.
Way to kill the conversation Edel.

Luckily enough of the pair of them, they arrived at the fourth floor soon enough and were ushered in by the restaurant staff. Seated and menus placed in front of them, all that was left to do was for the ghouls to decide what they wanted for this increasingly laborious lunch date.

"...... Never tried ice-cream?" even she, as a fire elemental, had eaten some... how much of a failure of an ice-demon was Edel? Really?!

"It's pretty good," she admitted. "You have to try some later, after lunch, then. I'd recommend spookies and cream..."

Soon enough, they were seated in the restaurant; Vieve had no idea what else to say to the other girl, or how to carry on the conversation.. seriously, how had Edel been raised? Why was she so utterly boring?! The salamander was suddenly struck by an idea: teach her new things, and profit off it. Namely, introducing Edel to her favourite pasttimes.... and bumming off her.

Calling the waiter over, she ordered. "One filet minion, medium rare." Then she turned to Edel, smiling. "How about you?"

If the ice-demoness found Vieve's sudden change of attitude suspicious, it wasn't without reason....

As if Edel needed to further reinforce what a boring failure she was, she simply replied that she would have whatever Vieve was having too. Not because she didn't have an opinion to save her life, it was just that nothing else on the menu had caught her eye in particular. Well, there was wine on the menu, but Edel doubted that Vieve was of age to try it anyway. Filet minion it is, the frost demon wondered how differently it would taste from what the cooks would whip out at home.

Smiling, she folded the menu and handed it back to the waiter. As she turned around to face Vieve, Edel noticed that the other ghoul was suddenly all smiles and enjoying herself. What else was there to do then, but for Edel to return the smile, albeit a little forced and awkward. She must .... really like food then... the frost demon concluded.

It was going to be a wait before the appetizers would be served, the frost demon dreaded the idea of sitting there in silence. Edel found herself examining the cutlery for the next few minutes, occasionally glancing up to see a smiling, cheerful Vieve opposite her. Now the frost demon was starting to get some of those weird chills.....
PostPosted: Mon Oct 10, 2011 6:30 am

Edel... would rather look at cutlery than her? How.. rude.. Perhaps she'd caught on to Vieve's plans, but.. they were still worth a try, weren't they?

"So, other than ice-cream--- thanks!" One of the waiters had arrived with their drinks, and Vieve picked up her mug of hot chocolate, warming her fingers on it.

"What else.. have you not.. done?" It was hard to imagine anyone who hadn't had ice-cream before, in their lives; what kind of remote cave had Edel lived in..?!

"Well, I've not been to a Maul" Edel realised how incredibly dull and my-jack-I-don't-have-a-life she sounded. “....at least, not a modern one” she added quickly, as if to substantiate her existence. “I've been to an emporium before though.

If anything, the frost demon was sure she had compounded the shock that was evident from Vieve's tone. Well well well, there really wasn't anything much to say about that. There was a reason the ghoul chose to come to Halloween Town to study ,play and explore right?

So.....perhaps you could show me around later?” The frost demon paused and took a sip of the champagne.

Perhaps now was a good time to ask. “And maybe you could help me pick out something....less curtain-like to wear” All of a sudden, there was something to talk about.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 11, 2011 8:35 am

"You've not been to a wha---?!" The expression on her face was incredulous, and had she been chewing on something.. that might have ended up on Edel.

"Wow, d'you live in a cave?" Tilting her head, Vieve looked at Edel, observing her. She could imagine it- stalactite-chandeliers, lots of ice... everywhere.... just the thought made a shiver run down her spine, and as if to reassure herself that she wasn't in that sort of environment right now, she picked up her mug and took a large swig of hot chocolate.

Aaahhhhh. Bliss.

"Well- sure! I wouldn't mind that."

She wouldn't mind at all, of course. Not when there was a chance she could leech off Edel.

"Gotta walk off all those calories anyway, right?"

N-No we just don't leave the residence very often....” which happened to be high up in the mountains, far far away from civilisation. But it was posh man, it was posh. The ghoul was feeling a little sheepish now that the fact that she was so out of touch with the modern world was out in the open. It.....wasn't that bad was it?

The appetizers arrived at a nice time for another break in the conversation. Edel pondered a little over the last statement – she wasn't the type to count calories since it was never a problem for them. Something to do with the climate. Or their diet. The frost demon wasn't sure.

Edel gestured towards the food for them to start eating since there was a lack of conversation topics again.

Well at least Vieve agreed to do some shopping with her later.
