It was pretty much impossible for Adi's day to get any better, it was just so awesome already. She'd actually thought that earlier, too, but then it had, so maybe it could again, but still. Awesome. With Dittany and Phlox scurrying along at her feet, she went to check on her 'project' with Glyph, their amulet for the Dragon King Yu. It was so exciting, she could hardly wait, especially now that they'd talked to Elik. He'd shown her how to enchant such things to remain 'alive,' and hopefully she'd be able to pull it off.
It certainly wasn't something she wanted to mess up!

Glyph knew the enchantments that Elik had taught Adi would last mortal lifetimes - millenia, by a Night Elf's standards - but it would not last the Ages of the gods. He would need to inform Yu of that condition when they delivered it but for now the seal of longevity that Adi would weave would be enough.
Already kneeling before the spot they'd decided to grow the amulet, Forest was working at shaping and growing and locking the form into place. One of his Aoide had thoughtfully provided a nugget of Amber, one of his identifiers, and he'd worked it into the center of the living talisman. It was not overly ornate, could not be for the kind of object they were making, but the leaves framed a spiral of supple wood grown from a sapling, the top of which had been shaped with use or wire and magic into a bael for a thong to pass through. Simple and beautiful, it reminded him of the woods, he could only hope it did so for Yu and Adi as well.
As footfalls broke the quiet behind him, he tilted his head to look over his shoulder and lifted a dirt-stained hand in greeting, "Adi! Hello little one! How are you? You're just in time~"

Adi stuck her tongue out when called 'little one' - she really wasn't little anymore! - but laughed. It didn't bother her bother her, especially not from someone like Glyph. It seemed she was just going to be 'little' to some people indefinitely, even if she was going to be four in a few months' time.
"I'm good!" she answered, "Excited!" The young werewolf hurried over to crouch beside him, and wasted no time in oohing and aahing over Glyph's work. "It's so pretty! Is it ready?"
...she sort of wanted one.

He chuckled as she oohed and aahed, gesturing for her to have a go at it - the wires still needed to come off. "You helped~ It looks good doesn't it? I like the amber bit." He made a thoughtful sound and flashed a smile at her, "Do you want it to be ready? It's easy to tell - when you unbind the rings, do they stay tight? If so, then it's ready!"
Glyph recognized that gleam in the young werewolf's eyes and made a mental note to fashion an amulet for her as well. Perhaps amulets would be good symbols of those who followed and served him? What should they look like though? Not like this - this was a gift. He'd think on it later.
He gave a serious look then and arched a brow, "Are you ready too? This is important, Adi. I need your help so we can enchant this for permanence."

"I like it, too. It's tree sap, right?" The kind that had stuff in it was the coolest! Not that it needed much help being cool, considering it was a gem that came from trees. Okay, she was getting sidetracked. Slight envy later, magic first. At Glyph's suggestion, Adi unbound the rings, and was delighted to find that they did stay tight. "It is ready!"
"'Course I'm ready!" she assured the god with a bright smile, allowing herself to fall back into a sitting position with the pendant in her hands. "Besides, even if I do mess up, it's not like it's gonna blow up, right?" Surely a failed attempt wouldn't hurt the piece, and they could just try again!

"Very old tree sap. So old it's crystalized." Glyph replied with a smile, "Sometimes, if you're lucky, it'll trap a bug or a seed or something else from a long time ago and be like a window to the past."
He gave a nod of agreement when she freed it from its bindings and it remained in the desired shape. "I should hope not! An exploded pendant would make a poor gift! I'll try to encourage it to grow and you bind it however it is you're supposed to, yes? On the count of three...."
Waiting to catch her eye, he smiled as he began, "One.... two.... three!" Just barely touching the amulet with his power, he tried to offer some of it to his ever-faithful follower as well. A god could bless his servants, yes? Why shouldn't he? Adi was certainly deserving.

While Glyph counted down, Adi took a deep breath and drew in her focus, trying to tune out all the things that could so easily steal her attention, from what might be rustling in the bushes over there to that movie where they used amber-bugs to bring back dinosaurs, or even going back over Elik's lesson of how to do this. While she needed to remember what he'd told her, she didn't need to get lost thinking about the Night Elf himself, or...well, suffice to say, there was often an awful lot running through her head at any given moment, and it could be difficult to get it to just stop.
But this was Important, and she had to. By the time she'd let out her breath and Glyph had finished counting, she'd narrowed her concentration, holding her intent foremost in her mind: stay this way forever, never die, stay. And she offered the trinket the power to do so, augmented by what Forest offered.
It didn't explode. That was good, right?

There was a twist, a fizzle and a creaking as the wood of the amulet seemed to settle and hold in its shape, an aura of endurance about it. This item would not fade in mortal life times, he was sure of that.
Sitting back to admire their work, Glyph held the amulet up and let the light catch in the glossy amber, reflect off the supple bark of the sapling. A fitting item for a god, he thought. "Well done Adi! Well done! Now we can present this to Yu - I'm sure he'll appreciate it!"
He looked thoughtful for a moment then bit his lip as he cupped one hand, hiding it from view for a moment. When he pulled it away, two little leaves had budded on either side and would open in a few days, their support would hopefully increase the strength of the spell Adi had cast.
Looking around, he pondered a moment, "Hnn... now how to present it? I don't actually have any leather me. Or a box or cloth..." Laughing, Forest seemed embarrassed by his lack of foresight, "Do you?"
A mischievous gleam sparked in his eyes, "Would you like one too? A different one... but one to mark your place as my best young werewolf?"

Adi was at least as delighted by the praise as she was by the fact that it had worked, and beamed brightly. Glyph had a good question, though...they had to present it nicely, too! Her expression fell into thoughtfulness for a moment, but soon rose again, and she untied one of the feathered and beaded adornments from her clothes, a long piece of leather that might be enough to wrap around the dragon's neck. "Would this work? I guess if we really want to wrap it, too, we could use my bow...but I don't think pink is Yu's color."
"I'd love one!" she answered immediately, filled to bursting with excitement all over again.
"But I think I'm your only werewolf," she added, sticking out her tongue. "Unless you're hiding another one somewhere?"

"Ah! Yes, yes it would." Taking the cord, he strung it through the amulet and held it up to his chest, "What do you think? Suitable for a God?" He thought so! Laughter made his eyes sparkle at the comment about pink and he shrugged, "Perhaps, but I don't think he'd mind a pink bow. We could make some paper from the birch bark too... actually."
Looking up, he scanned the area for the paper-covered trees until he spotted one and gestured at it. The tree shivvered in response and arched a brow at Adi, "Have you ever tried before?" Rising, amulet in one hand, Forest held the other out for Adi.
Winking, he gave a shrug, "That doesn't mean you're not the best, now does it? C'mon, I'll show you how to take paper without hurting a tree, we won't need much."

"I haven't, but I'd love to learn!" she confirmed, looking eagerly to the tree when he indicated it. Not only did 'paper trees' just plain look neat, you could use them for cool things, and there were always bonus points for especially cool trees - like syrup ones, too - in her book.
Adi accepted his hand, tail wagging. "Hm, I guess it doesn't."

He squeezed her hand and smiled when she took it then lead her over to the tree. It's bark was thin and papery but surprisingly strong, the natural color variations of dark and light dashes even giving it a 'printed' appeal. Looking for a loose chunk, Glyph ran his hands over the bark until he found what he was looking for and gestured for Adi to join him, "Here, see? Feel the difference? This part is loose, like it's not completely attached, and the rest is firm?" He slid a hand over the areas he indicated.
"You just find the edge..." he did so and curled his fingers under the edge of the flaking section of bark and peeled back,"and gently pull the section away like so." There was a soft sound as he peeled the park and murmured something under his breath. Beneath the section was more bark, neatly formed and bright, lacking the stains of weather and animals.
"Like peeling an old blister," he commented, "It doesn't hurt if you're careful." Holding up the sheaf of paper-bark, Glyph smiled and flapped it at her, "This is enough you think? Do you want to try? Find another tree, see if there's a bit to peel off. You can harvest bits to make a journal if you're careful."

Adi winced reflexively when Glyph pulled away the loose bark - it really looked like it would hurt! He wouldn't have done it if it did, though, and her ears quickly flicked forward again. "Why does it shed like that, anyway?"
"Looks like enough!" At his urging, she found another tree and carefully tugged loose her own bit of bark. "I've never used a journal before..." A certain amount of sitting still was required.
"Can I talk to you about something?"

"Why?" He blinked at her and chuckled, "It's like old skin, or fur... you shed, yes? Sometimes your skin goes pale and sloughs off, or the seasons shift and your fur sheds. Similar reasons - the bark gets old, is replaced by new. Take too much and you hurt the tree, can even kill it. Sometimes it's to encourage fire," Glyph grinned then, "Did you know that? Some trees like fire, they need it for their seedlings."
Shrugging at her admission, Glyph winked and tilted his head as well, "You want the truth? Neither have I - in this life, anyway. Maybe we should both start a journa - Hnn? Yes? Something the matter?" Forest's ears perked towards her as his attention settled fully on the young lycanthrope, instantly worried something was troubling the girl.

"I never thought of it like that," Adi said, after considering Glyph's explanation for a moment. She had to wonder what it felt like for a tree, to shed but not be able to really do anything about it. When she was shedding, she itched like crazy! Did trees do things like itch? "Fire? But doesn't fire hurt them?"
"The matter? No, nothing's wrong, I just..well, see, I like Elik." Her smile showed a rare hint of shyness. "Do you think you could, um, not tell him how old I am?"
