Overview of pearl dives:
Pearl diving is a way for Mokai pearl divers (and their owners) to gain money.
Only Mokai who are of the pearl diver subspecies may dive for pearls. Other subspecies are not allowed!
Only adult pearl divers are allowed to officially dive, although adolescents can watch and practice. Although adolescents cannot make any money, they are allowed to practice diving to gain experience points - they get half the experience points of an adult.
Joining the weekly pearl dive:
There will be one thread for pearl dives set up each week. You will complete all your randomized number rolls ('dives') in this thread. This pearl diving thread will be up for a full week before it is locked and the next week's thread set up. The initial thread will remain in the forum (and locked) for a week in order for people to collect their rolls from the previous week and post their results in the Tally board thread.
Your Mokai's stats will determine what number you randomize, as well as how many times you can randomize (see below).
Each post/randomized number must also be accompanied by RP, although the RP can be as short as a sentence or two or as long as a novel, it's up to you. You can also choose to RP by yourself or interact with others in the thread. If you are finished randomizing, but wish to keep RPing in the thread, that's also fine!
Mokai stats:
Pearl divers have three stats: speed, stamina, and luck. Speed will determine how high you may randomize, which corresponds to the type of pearl they may find; stamina corresponds to how many times you can randomize a number ('dive') for pearls; and luck acts as a wildcard.
Mokai start out with 0% for each stat, and may gain experience points through dives.
Stamina stat: The stamina stat determines how many times you can randomize a number ('dive'). For example, if your Mokai's stamina stat was 52%, you can randomize up to 6 times in one week. Keep in mind that you don't have to roll your maximum number of times; if you only have time for one post, just randomize once!
Mokai stat - Number of times to randomize
0-10% - Randomize 3 times.
11-30% - Randomize 4 times.
31-50% - Randomize 5 times.
51-70% - Randomize 6 times.
71-90% - Randomize 7 times.
91-100% - Randomize 8 times.
Speed stat: The speed stat determines how high a number you can randomize; the higher the number, the better payout you get from the pearls you bring back; see the list of pearls below! For example, if your Mokai's speed stat was 22%, that means, according to the table below, that you should randomize a number from 1 to 5 each time you roll.
Mokai stat - Numbers to randomize between
0-10% - Randomize a number from 1 to 3.
11-20% - Randomize a number from 1 to 4.
21-40% - Randomize a number from 1 to 5.
41-50% - Randomize a number from 1 to 6.
51-60% - Randomize a number from 1 to 7.
61-70% - Randomize a number from 1 to 8.
71-90% - Randomize a number from 1 to 9.
91-100% - Randomize a number from 1 to 10.
The numbers you roll coincide with specific pearl types, listed below. For example, if you randomize a 2, your Mokai found a Biwa pearl, which you can trade in for $20.
Number generated - Pearl Type Found (Payout)
1 - Akoya pearl ($10)
2 - Biwa pearl ($20)
3 - Cassis pearl ($30)
4 - Quahog pearl ($40)
5 - Melo pearl ($50)
6 - Mikimoto pearl ($60)
7 - Kasumi pearl ($70)
8 - Mabe pearl ($80)
9 - Abalone pearl ($90)
10 - Conch pearl ($100)
Luck stat: This is a wildcard stat that comes into play only at the end of your randomized numbers. If you are dissatisfied with a particular generated number (say, you randomize a 1), you can choose to change that stat and re-randomize, if you have a high enough luck stat. If you have a stamina stat of 8%, you still only get 3 rolls; but if you have a luck stat of 32%, you can re-randomize twice according to the chart below, if you want. Ultimately, you will pick your best top 3 rolls from the 5 rolls you did (3 'standard' rolls and two 're-rolls').
Mokai stat - Re-rolls
0-10% - 0
11-30% - 1
31-60% - 2
61-90% - 3
91-100% - 4
After the dive:
Once you have completed all the dives you're going to do for the week, fill out the form on the Tally Board to get your Mokai's payout and corresponding experience points. Once the week's pearl diving ends, and that thread is locked, you have one week to post the form or you will lose that payout/points.
Experience points: Once you finish up the dive, your Mokai will gain experience points depending on the numbers you randomized in the dive. You may apply these points to one stat at the end of each week.
As your Mokai's stats increase, the number of experience points you win from a dive will drop.
Diving tournaments:
Occasionally, diving tournaments will be held, in which Mokai may compete in speed races or other contests. Tournaments come with greater payouts and higher experience increases.
