Much as Marie loved cooking, pizza was never something she could make real well. Sure, slapping sauce and toppings together was easy, but the crust, that's what made a pizza, and Marie just didn't have the equipment to make a good crust. Not to say she hadn't tried, but after her attempt resulted in dough hanging from her ceiling fan, she admitted that perhaps pizza was something she should eat out.
That's how Marie ended up wandering through the streets of Destiny City, looking for a promising pizza place. She could have just looked in a phone book or online, but where was the fun in that? Instead Marie decided to trust her instincts and her nose, looking for a place with a promising crowd of folks and a yummy smell.

The Leaning Tower may not have been the best known pizza place in Destiny City, but Falco considered it one of the best, period. He'd ordered a large with pepperoni, and found a place outside to sit in the cooling early fall weather to eat it... and because it was harder for people to argue with the presence of a fluffy white cat on one of the chairs, who apparently had her own slice.
He raised an eyebrow curiously as he watched people come and go, since conversation was, for obvious reasons, a bit limited at the table, unscrewing the top of a bottle of Perier and pouring it into a paper cup as he added, (to Dahlia).
"I'd offer you soda but I think someone would call in animal cruelty."
Besides, Perier seemed more her style.
The cheerful, larger woman caught his eye certainly, if partially because she rather stood out in a city that was otherwise becoming quietly a bit guarded and traumatized. After everything that had happened, it was hard not to stand out just a little when you walked around radiating an certain air of open optimism.

It was a... strange situation and an incredibly strange scene at that. Man and cat settled in at the table. Sometimes people brought their dogs to outdoor cafes, yes. Cats were a little more rare though, especially when they were settled into a seat with their very own plate and cup.
Dahlia however didn't really mind it, or the attention the whole situation seemed to be bringing. She knew people were looking and she was being puffed and beautiful in response, fighting the urge to respond back to him. This was pampering! And it was a delightful surprise. She had been a little frightened intially that after he'd found out about her.. well.. he'd have run the other direction from her screaming. Not taken her out on a 'date' and bought her expensive water.
Using one foot she lifted herself to the cup, taking a gentle sniff before she lapped at it slowly, her long tail beginning a slow and pleased sway. Absolutely delightful! Falco received a slight twitch of her whiskers and a flick of an ear in response to his comment.
Lowering herself once more she gazed at the pizza for a moment curiously, trying to figure out the best way to tackle the treat. It was very important to her that she didn't get too incredibly dirty, nor look like a total savage as she tried to eat it. It sure smelled delicious though.
In her own world she didn't particularly notice Marie or Falco's attention shift. But then.. Dahlia had always been a very 'me me ME' sort of cat.

Dahlia might not have noticed Marie, but Marie sure noticed Dahlia.
“ Ooh, what a pretty kitty!”
Marie made her way right up to Falco’s table, all eyes for Dahlia.
“ Puss-puss eats pizza? Why, you a kitty wit’ good taste too! Makes sense though, a fine lookin’ cat havin’ fine tastes.”
A dark hand was already partially extended towards the feline when Marie seemed to catch herself, blinking and looking up at Falco.
“ Oh my, I do beg your pardon! I see a fancy little doll like dis ‘n I’m afraid I forget my manners. I’m Marie. You mind me askin' your name, and that of this little pretty?”

Falco, not accustomed to being approached out of the blue, eyed Marie with the wary caution of any stray himself.
"She doesn't have a dairy problem so I figured I'd let her try." He explained, limply, not quite sure how to handle the situation yet.
"It's Falco... " He offered, still cautious, and nodded at Dahlia as he added. "And thats Dahlia. Not mine, just watching her for a while."
He hoped she wouldn't ask about the lack of a cat harness, because he'd have to bluff that she was 'heel-trained' or something, and generally speaking... cat's weren't. They were CATS.

Pretty kitty! The two words were all it took to finally grab the attention of the mauvian, her gaze shifting to the approaching woman with soft interest and curiousity. She was dark skinned and large... not just in stature but in the whole aire she radiated around her, her good mood seemingly all consuming like a black hole. A.. happy black hole?
She talked a little funny, which brought a curious little twitch of her ears at first, but it wasn't so undecipherable for Dahlia not to catch the drift, eating up each compliment with happy delight. Oh it really WAS her day wasn't it?
Pizza forgotten, for the moment, she shifted in her seat to better face Marie, wrapping her lovely tail around her well placed paws like a pretty little statue. For as wary and cautious as her companion was Dahlia provided a strong contrast. Her body language was open, welcoming, confidant. She even offered the woman a cute little 'mew' of hello as greetings were made.
Who wouldn't want company if it proved to be the sort that would shower you with attention? Too bad about that whole.. not talking thing.

“ I seen cats drink coffee, so I don’t see why a cat won’t eat pizza, ‘specially some pizza dat smells so good.”
Learning the names of the tables’ occupants was invitation enough to Marie, who reached out to pet Dahlia. For such a large, enthusiastic woman, Marie’s touch was surprisingly gentle, proof of many years of experience with felines.
“ Dahlia, is it? My my, but everything ‘bout you is pretty! You just a little princess, ain’t ya?” she gushed.
Critters were obviously one of Marie’s soft spots.
“ Well Mista’ Falco, I’m guessin’ watchin’ her ain’t too much a hardship. She mighty easy on the eye, and right polite too, least from what I’ve seen.”
If Marie had noticed Falco’s wariness – unlikely– then she was happily ignoring it, along with anything else odd about the situation. She busied herself instead with lavishing attention on Dahlia, her eyes straying only when a waiter passed with a delicious pizza.
“ So, dis place got good pizza Mista’ Falco? It sure smell good.”

"Yeah they've the best place I've found, short of making it from scratch." Falco admitted, cautiously. "And yeah she's uh..." He glanced at Dahlia, trying to think of a passable way to sum her up. "Smarter than people tend to expect."
Dahlia he was sure was eating up the attention, and with a large spoon no less. And who could entirely blame her, even cats that didn't secretly talk tended to enjoy being lavished with praise and attention (with some exceptions).

Her nose tapped Marie's hand briefly as it passed by, a familiar feline greeting, before the woman began to actually pet her. Between the soft affection and the continuing stream of compliments it did not take long for a loud purr to rattle to life within the creamy colored cat.
That's right. Just an inch to the..... ahhh. Perfect! Her tail had unwrapped itself so the tip could twitch and swing in unbridled delight, her shoulder arching up and up. Dahlia's eyes were closed in soft contentment, fluttering open only when Falco spoke again.
Someone that wasn't looking for it wouldn't have noticed really anything.. not with the way feline maws tended to have that curved and smile like appearance to begin with. But Falco... with what he knew of the cat, he could probably see the amused and pleased smile that widened across her maw. Smarter indeed. Flattery from every angle.
Dahlia had pretty much died and gone to heaven.

" Oh, dat does sound good! I'm afraid fresh pizza be one of dem things I just can't get da hang of. My ceilin' fan is better at catchin' pizza dough den I am!"
No, admitting such a thing did not embarass Marie in the slightest. It was all good fun to her, and if she was lucky then her pizza story would at least make the other young man smile; Marie liked making people smile. Shame she didn't know that Dahlia was smiling.
Flagging down a passing waiter, Marie requested whatever Falco had ordered, indicating that she'd take her pizza at the open table next to Falco and Dahlia. It was nice outside, and besides, she didn't feel like leaving Falco and Dahlia just yet. Instead she just nodded at Dahlia's pizza slice.
" You think maybe she'd like it cut up? I'm guessin' pizza'd be a bit hard for someone without hands to eat."

"Technically you don't have to toss them..." Falco pointed out, hesitantly, wondering what it was about this woman exactly that encouraged continued responses instead of an cold shoulder that would do a polar-bear proud. Maybe... he debated... maybe it was just because certain... other activities had been making him get less sleep lately.
The thought made him want to yawn, but he stiffled it as best he could and shot the slice of pizza in front of Dahlia a somewhat guilty look. That he could only partially blame on lack of sleep, the rest was assumption. Jo and the other 'normal' cats would eat the toppings they liked off of any pizza left uncovered, but Dahlia was a different animal entirely... so to speak.
"What? Oh... uh... yeah. Probably. Wasn't even thinking about that at the time." He admitted.

In the time it'd taken Marie to settle herself in, asserting her way into their space with a nonchalant skill that Dahlia could definately admire and approve of, the cat had once more leaned to try and take a bite of her pizza. She could eat bites off the top sure.. but she risked getting sauce on her pretty coat. Gnawing her way through the whole thing would work.. but it hardly looked lady like.
Chewing thoughtfully on a small chunk of meat, she debated which route was the lesser of the evils, stopping only when the suggestion to cut her food had been thrown out there. Wonderful woman! A strong meow of agreement demanded that someone follow through with the idea.. though whether either would... only time would tell.
Paws fidgeted impatiently on her seat.

Two approvals of her idea - one by human and one by cat - was enough to set Marie in motion. She picked up a knife and fork without a thought and deftly set to cutting the pizza slice into bite-size cat pieces. Once she had a couple of adequate pieces, she speared one with the fork and offered it to Dahlia with a triumphant grin.
" Here you are princess!"
Falco's comment made Marie look at him funny, as if he was missing something obvious.
" Nooo, you don't have to toss 'em, but dat's part of da fun! Thought I best avoid dat temptation though 'n just eat pizza out." Marie firmly believed that food - and food preparation - should be fun, so trying to make pizza at home without doing the funnest component... not going to happen.
" 'sides, if I hadn't decided to eat out den I wouldn't have gotten to meet you two, so it all worked out."

"It's been a while since I enjoyed wearing what was supposed to be my dinner." Falco noted, with a slightly twisted smile.
He wasn't entirely sure that she'd gained much by meeting them, or at least him.
"But then I've got to worry about the security deposit if I destroy the kitchen." The ups and downs of apartment life. On the one hand, there were things he didn't have to worry about just because of the tennant laws, on the other hand... there were things he did have to worry about because he was one.
"Found a good pizza place anyway." he offered, the closest he'd come to agreeing that it had 'all worked out',

Dahlia puffed and preened as her food was prepared for her, not hesitating very long once a piece was offered to her via fork, leaning forward to tug the piece off of the silverware and quickly into her mouth.
The pieces by themself were good. Meats, cheeses, bread. But the taste of all three combined was a different and equally satisfying experience. The slight tanginess of the sauce even had her licking her maw to make sure it was all gone before she stood up and leaned into her plate for another piece.
Though she certainly would have preferred it, maybe there was one nice thing about not being able to talk in present company. She didn't have to worry about being rude for not making polite conversation while she stuffed her face.
