 Zephyra was working on her defense, kicking out with her front hooves and then bucking up high with her back, kicking out as she did so. She whirled about from side to side, snapping at the air with audible clicks of her teeth, and sidestepping around invisible blows. Every so often you could hear her making a comeback to imaginary enemies. "Take that! Ha, you think you can trick me with such an amateur move?" She was in her zone, and oblivious to anything going on outside of her fight.

 Tashi stood in a grove of trees. It was her favorite get-away place. She found it extremely relaxing and visited it normally once a week. But lately she hadn't had time to visit her sanctuary and today was the first time in awhile that she had. Suddenly, Tashi heard voices, or rather, a voice out in the distance. Not knowing who or what was so close to her sanctuary, she peeked out of the grove to see a beautiful purple and green mare with wings. Her wings were beautiful and her markings stunning. The butterfly mare seemed to be practicing fighting maneuvers. Tashi thought it might be because she was so beautiful she had to fight off many an azrein, but Tashi wondered if it was something more. Maybe this beautiful mare was in some sort of trouble. "I can't do anything for her, but maybe the herd can..." She whispered as she exited her grove. "Excuse me, ma'am, are you ok?" She said in a soft voice, but one that would carry on the wind to the other mare. Tashi approached slowly, as to not seem a threat to the lovely creature.

At the sound of the voice, Zephyra slowed down, and looked around. At first, she thought it might have been her imagination, but then discarded the idea as a mare approached her. Zephyra watched her come, admiring her spotted coat and silver hair. She blushed at having been seen practicing, and stammered a reply, "I'm o-ok. I'm fine. Just... er... practicing. In case I'm ever not fine. Because it's always a possibility, right? They could sneak up at any time, and you have to be ready! Though I'm not sure who 'they' are..." She pawed the ground. "I'm sorry if I have disturbed you or anything. If you'd like, I can find a different place to practice."

"It's always a possibility." Tashi agreed. "You never know who you may run into. But I assure you. You have nothing to fear from me." She noticed the slight restlessness of the mare, as if she didn't like to be still for very long. "And you haven't disturbed me. I just like that grove of trees, they're very relaxing. You don't have to go anywhere, oh very opposite of that. I would actually like some female company. I'm normally with my mate and his herd, but sometimes I like to escape and have some time to myself." she said happily. "So if you wouldn't mind my being here, you can continue what you were doing." Tashi encouraged. Never before had she seen someone practice with such vigilance, almost as if her life depended on it. Which, some day it might, but Tashi didn't like to dwell on such topics.

If horses could blush, Zephyra would have been as red as a ripe apple. "I, ah... that is... I guess I can stay. If you're sure." She shook out her muscles and wings, and took a deep breath, trying to refocus. After a few minutes, she gave up, and looked over towards the other female. "It seems that I am unable to focus with eyes watching me. Would you like to train with me, perhaps? My name is Zephyra, by the way."

Tashi bowed, "Its a pleasure to meet you. My name is Taoshira, but you may call me Tashi if you would like. I have never trained before, I'm afraid, and I would probably make a fool out of myself. Though, I guess since its just the two of us it won't really matter." She said with a smile. "As long as you don't laugh." She joked. "Soo...what first?" She said awkwardly, shifting from foot to foot.

"Well, first, we have to see how fit you are!" Zephyra replied, excitedly. She had always exercised on her own, and sometimes she felt quite lonely. To have another mare here was a new experience, and she was having so much fun already. "First, let's test speed. How fast can you run?" She eyed a tree down the meadow, and marked it as a destination. "See the tree down there, with the blooming pink flowers? The one that's standing a bit away from everything else? Try running to it. You should be able to make it there in 7 or 8 normal breaths. I'll stay here, and time you."
(Tashi is faster than Phyra, so she should make it in about 6, usually, based on the average speed of a galloping horse going about 75 yards, as clocked by a human breathing in and out normally. Hope that's not too confusing.)

Tashi took a calming breath after nodding. She loosened her muscles so she would not strain any of them. The tree wasn't too far away, she thought she could make it in the normal time allotted. "I'll go ahead and start when I say go, ok? So you know when I'm about to start." Tashi said still relaxing. "Ready," she took a deep breath, "Steady," and another, "Go!" She yelled to herself as she took off. The tree was locked in her sight as she began her race against time. Tashi's stride lengthened as she ran, her breath coming just a tad higher than normal as she reached half way. She kicked it up a notch, not one of her hooves touching the ground for very long as she pushed herself to make it to the tree. She zoomed past the tree, mane and tail flowing behind her as she ran on, gradually slowing her speed to a trot. She trotted back, slightly winded, to where the other mare stood.

Zephyra started counting as soon as Tashi yelled Go. 1... 2... 3... 4... Zephyra was slightly surprised when Tashi crossed the marker at 6. Grinning, she watched the mare slow down and come back to the starting line. "That was amazing! You ran it even faster than I expected!" Zephyra shook herself to release some of the excitement she felt from the race. "Next we'll practice balance! It's good for turning on one hoof, and kicking out using both front or back hooves, and landing efficiently. Though, I don't guess you would need to worry about landing very much..." Zephyra blushed at her mistake. With that, she reared up onto her hind legs, and held it for a few breaths, using her wings to stabilize her. She came back down, and smiled widely over at Tashi expectantly.

Tashi smiled at the praise she received. She looked awkwardly at the mention of balance. That had never been a strong point for her, ever since she was a little foal, she had always been falling over everything. "It would be neat to be able to fly like you..." She said shyly, "What is it like to fly?" She pondered out loud, momentarily getting sidetracked. Tashi shook her head, clearing it to get focused again. "Ok, balance..." she took a deep breath and then reared. She wasn't able to hold it for even half as long as her warrior friend but at least she hadn't fallen! She thought to herself. "Well...that wasn't a complete disaster!" She said out loud with a quirky smile on her face.

"Flying is amazing," Zephyra answered. She watched as Tashi reared onto her hind legs, and held if for a few moments before coming back down. It wasn't as long as Zoe thought she might be able to, but the mare hadn't overbalanced to either side, or come crashing down inelegantly, so she had the basics down. "That's a really good start. If you were to train your hind quarters to keep you up, I bet you'd be able to hold it almost as long as I could!" So they had covered speed, and balance. All that was left was kicking. "How hard can you kick out," Zephyra asked. "The most important thing is being able to defend yourself if danger comes too close! So you have to be able to kick hard, and move quickly to be able to kick at different angles. You can't just rely on them coming up right behind you!" She reared up and kicked in front of her, coming down and turning 45 degrees to kick behind her with both back hooves for emphasis. It's all in your hoofwork!

Tashi day dreamed for a moment on how it would be to fly. She was proud when the other mare complimented her. "Thank you." She said proudly. "I've never really kicked anyone so I really wouldn't know." Tashi said with a little laugh. She studied Zephyra as she showed her what she wanted her to try. Tao braced herself before rearing up and kicking, then when she hit the ground again, she paused a moment before turning for the other kick. "That wasn't perfect but its a start." She said happily.
