Wrathful Demigod

It had been about a day since Felicia had delivered Gilbert to the tender hands of someone that could heal him up and went off for her own bit of appreciated first aid. She'd meant to go find him sooner really, as in as soon as she'd been cleared to go off on her merry way, but she'd gotten side tracked. First by Felix and catching up with him, and then further by a much needed nap. Clearly she'd needed the sleep, because she barely remembered laying down before sleep had sucked her under and held onto her for the remainder of the night. Waking only when the noise around her became too clamorous to ignore.

She'd hoped upon waking she'd find everything had been nothing but the crazy dream she'd assumed it all to be in the beginning, but alas, it was not. Somehow that realization wasn't half as crushing as she suspected it should have been. Was she actually getting used to being out here? Ugh.

Whatever, she was up now, and she had a mission. Arms crossed beneath the modest swell of her chest, Felicia set off down the halls of the outpost in search for the cop, whom despite having been incredibly grumpy, still managed to endear himself to the high schooler somehow. He didn't appear to be anywhere within the vast building though, least nowhere she could get to. Admittedly she hadn't dared search all the bathrooms, but she had made a few cycles of all the rooms, just in case.

With nowhere else to look she decided to take a peek outside. Slipping past the double doors the girl paused just beyond them. Marveling once again at the heat that seemed to envelope the courtyard, but never quite move beyond it. It was hot. Not just warm, but hot. It actually took her a moment to realize the person she was looking for was indeed within the courtyard. Apparently skulking around. "What are you doing out here?"

While gathering information was certainly his prime objective at the moment, Gilbert still had to take some time now and again to just separate himself from people and think. He'd been able to recharge himself easily enough at home, as he only shared his apartment with his cousin and sometimes they barely saw each other all week, but stranded in space with a bunch of people who were similarly uprooted..? Well, it got difficult to find a quiet corner to tuck yourself into for a thought.

He was getting a little bit restless, not knowing what was going on back home. Sure, he was concerned about where he was, but... he'd only just transferred to Destiny City within the year. He was still a rookie, working his way up from the bottom of the food chain, in the homicide department. He'd finally been tossed one of the interesting cases, and not just as a runner, either; he was really getting to sink his teeth in and be part of every step of the investigation. His partner had finally accepted that he had the chops to be in the department at all, and he was carving a niche for himself among the other detectives slowly but surely. He'd already been gone for so long that he had to wonder... what was he going to walk back home to?

(He was not allowing himself to believe that he wouldn't make it home. Somehow, some way, Gilbert Hennessy was getting home and he was taking his job back. He would not accept any other alternative to this crazy space adventure.)

If he lost his job, he would get it back. If he had to start at the bottom again, well, he would do that. If he had to take months of extensive counseling to see him fit for duty, then he would do it. Gilbert was not going to simply set aside the life he had worked for since he was a scrappy teenager, and he certainly wasn't going to let anyone take it from him.

When he was addressed, he wasn't really expecting it, so it pulled him out of his thoughts rather abruptly. He blinked, brow creasing in mild annoyance, but quickly smoothed his expression back out with an inward sigh. Whoever it was, they either needed him specifically for something, or they were lonely or scared, so... he could either be a complete d**k and ruin his cred with the other civilians, or he could suck it up and be his general affable, friendly self.

He chose the latter. Turning, he recognized the girl from before, and his slightly puzzled look became a friendly smile. "Hey there. Me? I'm just... looking for a place to think, really."

He brought a hand up, rubbing it over the back of his neck with a sheepish smile. "Seems like there's someone around every corner, you know? So I was taking a walk to clear my head. Everything all right, miss?"

Oops, she'd managed to startle him. Well that hadn't been her plan. "Sorry." The puzzled expression he'd immediately turned towards her melted into a friendly smile, and she mirrored it as she stepped away from the doors to move towards him, lingering on the third step down with both small hands coming to rest on the railing, fingers tapping softly. Great, he'd finally found a little corner of their outpost that was empty and she'd gone and interrupted him . Great job Felicia. And now that they weren't all dying and junk she couldn't quite recall if they'd ever gotten around to introductions. Well he had had a broken rib, it complicated things, like speaking.

"I didn't mean to interrupt." She felt it was important she point that out. That didn't mean she'd be leaving him alone though. "And yeah, everythings fine. At least I think so." There hadn't been any sudden emergencies she was aware of, so she had to assume things hadn't gotten any worst since last she'd seen him.

"So you look a lot better then you did yesterday," she commented idly, one hand raising to gesture at him. "I'm guessing they healed you up good as new?" She'd been pretty hurt herself and it'd taken mere moments to restore her back to perfect health, seemed the same had worked for him, though he'd been a hell of a lot worst off then she had. "I wanted to make sure you're ok." Because while I was carrying you all the way up here you sort of grew on me.

Plush lips pursed thoughtfully and she brought a hand up to give her cheek an absent sort of scratch. "I can't remember if I ever told you my name. I'm Felicia." She was hoping to prompt him into introducing himself as well. It was awkward having sought him out specifically to check on him only to come to the realization she didn't know, or couldn't remember, his name. Very smooth.

Ah, right, this was the girl who'd supported him while he'd been walking around with broken ribs. That endeared her to him a little more than just her pretty face, especially considering her pretty face was several shades too young for his tastes. His stance relaxed even more, shoulders falling back and his hands easing out of his pockets so that he could offer her one to shake, briefly.

Their palms met, his roughened and firm, hers soft and petite against it. Not all that surprising, given he was a man and about all the care he ever gave his skin was soap after he used the toilet, but it always surprised him when he took hold of a lady's hand and felt just how soft their skin was. Made his mind wander a little, reminded him of just how soft they generally were, well... everywhere.

God bless women's beauty products, he supposed. He was a skin man.

Eyes crinkling at the corners, he said, "Thanks for looking out for me before. Sorry I was such a grump... broken ribs," he sighed, easing his hand away from hers and patting his chest. "Bring out the worst in a man."

He tapped his left foot against the ground, a bit comforted by the familiar click of his dress shoes, and added, "Gilbert Hennessy. Don't suppose it matters much right now, but I'm a detective. Anything I can do to help, ma'am," he added, smile widening just a bit.

(Goddamn it, Gilbert. Too young to even think about starting to flirt.)

A handshake seemed a little odd considering all they'd already been through together, but she could appreciate the familiarity of it. So when their palms met she turned a grin up to the man before her, squeezing his hand as they shook. Where her's was soft, his was rough, calloused, but warm. Frankly not something she was used to feeling, her father was an accountant, but not unpleasant. Words like 'hardworking' and 'dependable' immediately jumped to mind.

He really hadn't needed to thank her for having helped him along back on that damn road, but she appreciated it. A shy smile sliding slowly along pink lips as she tucked a pale strand of curling hair behind her ear. "You're welcome, and it's okay." She laughed softly. "If I had a broken rib I'd probably be grumpy too." She'd had a concussion and a dislocated shoulder and she'd been ready to stab the people that wouldn't stop screaming, she couldn't even imagine how he must to have felt.

She chuckled at his introduction, pale features lighting up. "Gilbert, it's nice to meet you," she crinkled her nose, then smiled. "You know, formally." A detective? Well that was rather impressive. Licia couldn't recall having ever actually spoken to a member of law enforcement before. It was a little intimidating. "I'll keep that in mind, should I need anything." Did anything include silly, unimportant things? She kind of hoped so.

Fingers fidgetting along the folds of her dress, the girl finally moved down a step before taking a seat. Arms folding across the tops of her knees. It wasn't the most lady like position, but thank god for stylish leggings.

"So," she offered after a few seconds silence. "How're you adjusting?"

It seemed like he wouldn't be getting that time to think after all. That was marginally annoying, but Gilbert was good at sucking up his irritation and ignoring it until it was useful, so he simply shifted his weight a bit and lowered himself to the step in front of Felicia. The different in their height would have made it a little awkward to talk on the same step, but dropped a couple of inches and in a sitting position, it wasn't so bad. It seemed like the girl needed a friendly ear, anyway, and he wasn't exactly doing anything else. Best not to burn any bridges in space until he had a good reason to, right?

"Nice to meet you too, Felicia. Under the circumstances, anyway." He braced his hands on his knees, thumbs working in half-circles against his slacks, as he considered their situation. Not exactly ideal, and if he'd had his way, he would be back home idly pursuing leads on where all the rest of these folks had gone.

Not exactly his lucky weekend, it seemed.

"Don't you worry about me," he said, lifting a hand and waving it in dismissal. "I'm holding up great. I'm hardy stock," he added, thumping a hand against his chest.

It might not have been entirely true--he was having his difficulties adjusting just like everyone else, albeit in smaller was, as Gilbert was pretty difficult to rattle--but it sounded good.

"How about you? Making any friends," he asked, turning and grinning at her.

Had she known her presence wasn't exactly welcome for an extended period of time, Felicia wouldn't have lingered, but Gilbert seemed a nice guy, and there was no outward sign of annoyance to clue her in. She didn't want to be a pest, specially not to one of the few people she felt she shared some sort of bond with on this rock. The number of folks she'd so far met could be counted on one hand, and there'd be a few fingers left over if you went so far as to label someone a friend. She didn't make friends easily, not back home, and apparently not here as well. She wasn't exactly unfriendly, in fact she could be very polite when warranted, she just didn't suffer fools well. In a highly chaotic setting, fools were in abundance.

She smiled again as their introductions came to a close, chin lowering to rest on folded arms as she watched him rubbing circles along the tops of his knees. A glance around the courtyard made it obvious why he'd wandered out here, it was actually very peaceful. She'd have to remember it for the future if ever she needed a place to escape.

"You do seem to made of tougher stock then the rest of use, but don't forget I saw you half dead." The flesh along the bridge of her nose pinched at the memory. "Hard to forget something like that.." She paused, considering what she'd just said and to whom. "Well, for me anyways. I would imagine you've seen worst with your career." Without knowing exactly what unit he was assigned to it was hard to say for certain, but she had to guess most cops had seen grizzly sorts of scenes before. Hazard of the job.

One arm slide from beneath the other so she could bring her hand up to smooth pale waves from her face. "Good to hear you're adjusting well though."

He turned a grin up to her, and she couldn't help but smile back. He had the sort of smile that was contagious, and you just had to smile back, no matter what sort of mood you happened to be in. "A couple," she answered truthfully, scratching absently at her cheek. "So far just you and another guy, I don't know if you've met him though. Felix?" There were a couple others she could call by name, but she didn't really know them, and wouldn't consider them friends.

Ahh, yeah. For most people, the shock of seeing someone in a truly injured state -- or worse, actually dead -- was something that they had to fight to overcome. A girl like Felicia probably hadn't ever watched her share of gory movies, either, not that those were even close to being realistic, but they still did a fair bit to desensitize a person when it came to violence and destruction. Gilbert had been aiming for Homicide all his life, and he'd been a police officer ever since he got out of college, so he was pretty well acclimated to the rush and bustle that came along with crises.

Not that anyone could really ever be prepared for a crisis like being kidnapped into space and attacked by a giant whale, but he had a level head on his shoulders and, well, he could either freak out about what was going on or he could deal with it and move on. Gilbert had always been much more the type of man to just deal with things than otherwise.

"You'll forget all about it soon," he said easily, tilting his head back. "Seeing me half-dead, I mean. I don't really make it a habit."

It was so strange, being... in this place. Knowing that they were free-floating in space. Having the illusion of solid ground beneath their feet, just like back on Earth.

Then again.. Earth was just free-floating in space, wasn't it? So this was just like every other day, just on a smaller scale.

Bizarre, anyway.

"The best thing we can do right now is just get along and try to work together until we can get out of this place." He sighed, shoulders rising and falling. "And no, I haven't really met your friend Felix. I think I know which one he is, though."

Names to faces. An important skill for a detective.

Pale flesh along the brudge of her nose gave a soft pinch as he assured her she'd forget in time, but she gave the smallest shakes of her head. He might not make a habit of it, but she didn't think that sort of thing would simply fade away with time. Perhaps, but she just wasn't convinced. It was different for him though, he was used to seeing that sort of thing in his line of employment, Felicia was still just a teen, and even if she had a liking for horror movies, it really wasn't the same. "Maybe, it's good you don't make a habit of it. Would be kind of unhealthy."

She rolled her eyes up to the star speckled sky over head, gaze jumping between glittering constellations. She wasn't sure she recognized any, but considering she had no clue where they were in space, or at what angle she was looking at them from, that wasn't surprising

"Where is this place?" She asked after a moment or so, glancing sidelong at him. Chin sinking down to rest on folded arms. It was stupid to ask him, and she knew it. He didn't know a damn thing more then she did, but she couldn't seem to help herself.

She nodded when he said he hadn't really met Felix yet, shoulders rolling a little. "Tall, pale hair, blue eyes." A little smile spread along pink lips. "Glasses."

Fingertips drummed along the curve of one knee. "How about you? Have you made any friends yet?"
